After 5 years of loyal duty I have to reinstall my Windows XP. Because MS offers a good RC for Windows 7 I might gonna try it, but does L2 works good with Win7 or better not to try Win7?
Personally I run a
256 mb nvidia card
windows xp pro
2 gb ram
and one dual core processor(not powerful... one of the first ones)
and I run l2 without any lag ever
PS also heard windows xp is taking much less ram than vista(sorry don't know exactly)

Before win98? Windows 7 is the newest windows OS...
And yes, XP takes less ram then Vista. However the other side to that is Vista uses RAM much more efficiently, not to mention with 64 bit vista you have support for 4GB and higher RAM. (And sure, you could use XP64 but then you couldn't run any games).
As far as the OP's question goes, I'm pretty sure it would work but if you run into issues don't expect to be able to get much tech support, since Win7 isn't officially supported yet.
use vista better... i havent ever need to re format after installing vista... i remember with xp i had every 3 months
I guess some people just suck at maintaining their computer's performance level. It's not Windows' fault.

Why are you posting this incorrect crap on the forums?
XP64 has terrible, terrible support for games. Any game that does not have a 64 bit version of its self will not run in XP64 period (same for any program.)
Vista 64 is much better due to having two "program files", one for x86 and one for 64 bit.
So sure, a blanket statement about all games was probably incorrect, but the only game I can think of off the top of my head that had a 64 bit version is crysis.
32-bit applications running in the WOW64 subsystem provide a highly-compatible, high-performance environment for the thousands of existing 32-bit applications. 32-bit applications are installed into the Program Files (x86) directory structure, and have separate hives in the registry to prevent problems.
Applications running in the WOW64 system on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition each have a full 4 GB of virtual memory space. Applications compiled to take advantage of the /3 GB switch will actually get 4 GB, without constraining the operating system at all, since it is running in the 8 terabytes of virtual address space that Windows XP Professional x64 Edition has for the system processes. This can have a substantial impact on memory-constrained applications, such as computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), even before a 64-bit version of the program is available.
Maybe I was partially wrong, it looks like XP64 Pro has a way of emulating a 32 bit OS, or something, so you can run software through that. Not sure how well it works though and really Vista 64 is still much better than XP64, which is all I'm trying to say.
Windows 7 works fine and it's the best OS I've ever worked with. Go for the 64 bit RC. There's zero reason to go for the 32 bit one. L2 has some issues with W7 (technically, GameGuard does, L2 itself works fine) but there's various methods to correct the problem that can be easily implemented.
Windows 7 runs better than Vista from what I have seen, and better that XP in others. OS vs OS aside, the version of Game Guard that Lineage 2 runs has issues with Windows 7.
Its not a matter of Game Guard fixing the issue since they have fixed it months ago. NCSoft uses a older version than the current version that Game Guard has out.
My Xp x64 can eat any XP 32bit you can throw at me. I rarely have problems with games. One thing you have to do is replicate some drivers locations and you're set. Yes, really replicate.. Windows shortcut systems is an epic fail.
Sika,
The new Millenium was another perfect flop by M$.
The difference with Vista is that you don't have to know what you're doing, to keep it running. On the other hand.. when you want more from it.. you also won't get it.
Win7 seems different... I will give it another test run when I have the time and space free on my servers(Currently busy with real OSs, not emulators)
I said.. seems different. Didn't have much time for it.
On the other hand.. Vista had the record of 1h on my PC.
Any my wife's laptop battery.. lasts 1:40h less with Vista.. when compared to XP. Not to mention that it drags itself when real applications like SPSS or Adobes are needed.

I run XP64 and can play every game out there, you think I have a bugged version or something?
i wanna try windows 7 to.. and i need to install my 64 Bit Vista but i have no where to back up my very full hard drive data Q_Q and no money to buy an external *turns wallet upside down, sand falls out* ::sniffle:: .. i may try to replace my cd/dvd drive with an old Pata hard drive 500 gigs >_> and move all my data across . but my computer is stupid doesnt like PATA and only has 1 slot for PATA.

I already corrected myself in the same post, no need to try and reiterate anymore.

See, I didn't know XP64 was capable of this (although I corrected myself in my first post shortly after). Still it seems a lot more annoying to deal with then the way Vista 64 handles things.
