How to lvl an OL

Orc Classes Started Last reply 16 posts
I have a lvl 62 OL that I have not played in 3 years. Many changes have taken place with OLs and I am interested in lvling him.

I currently have NM Robes & Shield, Meteor Shower 1H Blunt and Branch of the Mother Tree.

I will most likely solo or with small groups. I have a bit of adena saved. Reading around, it seems the best way to lvl OL now is with HA and 1 hander, preferably a dagger.

What gear should I use and where should I head to lvl?

Thanks for the advice.
Try just turning on BOTH toggles and meleeing mobs first, pdef in robes and soulguard might be enough at your lvl.

I would ditch the nm robes though, no class benifits from that one.

I found maj light to be a good one on my wc, but most likely you can still do fine in robes on ol.

You regen mp fast as hell now when you melee, so dont worry, in a pinch just drain :D
Tallum Light is also good for the "occasional" cast.

but Maj Light works great, Tallum Hvy is great, DClight is also cool.

lots of options.
They made that class so stupidly easy to lvl now lol.

Ignore polearms.

Equip any armor and any weapon in your grade. Smack mobs with both toggles on.

Gratz on lvl up :D
You have a decent kit mate, but I'd suggest the following.

Try and sell your nightmare robes.

You really do want DC robes if you can from those profits, and a bladed weapon if you can help it, blunt crits are rather bad in groups, even with focus on it. You have your bomt (which owns now, it's more matk due to being a staff). I guess it's up to you to decide what you'd prefer, as burning chop now exists, and you can pretty much spam stun with that meteor shower. Pound for pound it's one of the better damaging blunts in the game.

If you can work out a trade for an orchid with focus i'd go that route, and kit yourself in plated leather in the meantime while you swap kits.

You can grind pretty easily with your meteor shower/focus and plated leather with both toggles on.

Buff yourself. Run into mobs with your staff and seal of winter if you like, then melee. Drain to fill hitpoints as they deplete. Melee to fill your mp. Loot. =) You are going to need to eventually hunt in dark omens catacomb, silent valley, and possibly witches in your 70s to find the books for your new combo buffs coming up, and afterwards (we receive focus/death whisper, bless body/soul, and might/shield combo buffs now) the bladed weapons will really outshine any blunt damage you can muster.

One little tip tho. I get a LOT BETTER results with a forgotten blade/focus in S grade than an angel slayer/haste or angel slayer/crit dmg. Our prophecy lost its accuracy component at 79, and in pagans or hellbound you'll be missing somewhat frequently with a dagger, so I'd avoid that route.

Edit: oh yeah, get a wolf if you can too. With a good kit they are rather beastly DDs to help ya out.

Good luck, if you have any worries feel free to pm me here, or on Phoenix.

And welcome back to L2 =)

OL does not need Light or Heavy Armor.

You can use a common dagger and Robes.

NM robes are fine. You're gonna upgrade all that crap at 76 anyways, and your most used seal when soloing (Winter) casts fast enough in NM Robes anyways.

Just get a Common Soul Separator, or something, turn on both of your Toggles, and kill MOBs.

Buy the combo buff books. It's not worth your time to farm them. They are cheap now, anyways...
Get a Blunt of your choice.
Get an armor of your choice.
go to an herbed place.
Buff
Turn on soul cry

3 hit a mob, chop, stun.
repeat till mana full

2x burning chop 2x stun = mob dead
repeat.

if you get low on hp, do a drain.

Grinding mine atm with maj robes + common nm shield and common elysian. Have no trouble to kill anything at my lvl range.
i have a lvl 63 ol

clean elysian with chance increse heals
+3 dc light
clean bo jewels
devil horns
no tatts
+4 acumen sov
common carnage bow

i buff, hit toggles and kill everything. but blunt for over hit is what i normaly use.
be advised, overhit seems like a good idea to level quicker...
but since it reduces exp-SP ratio, it's not always the best idea.
Focus dagger (I use a +3 BO with focus at 79), Tallum heavy, VR and fighter buffs + haste.

Keep soulcry on and just play like a dagger. I just posted this in another thread that was pretty much the same, I mention things about Bgrade, but it works for any level.

I've been out of the loop for a while but used to be crazy on getting the optimum DPS from my OL to lvl him, tried almost every weapon combination.

Coming back I like what they've done with soulcry and MP regen from hitting, my old optimum gear works insanely well now.

Basically get a Kris with focus and light or heavy armor. Hunt green or low evasion mobs using soulcry. If you are OL at Bgrd you'll need a buffer, SE and haste pots is best. WC might not need a buffer but will struggle till you lvl up VR and focus/DW.

Soulcry gives a fixed boost to your P.atk, daggers have the highest attack speed and crit rate, especially with focus SA (kris <3 ). Thus you get the highest % increase in atk using soulcry and a dagger and will probably have higher P.atk than most dagger classes.

With Death whisper (I forget what the WC ones called) each crit you do does A LOT more damage than standard and now with the MP boost on hitting you actually gain MP over time whilst fighting with soulcry on. Since dagger is the fastest weapon you get most hits in over time which means most MP regen.

I've been using this setup since C3 and it used to take me 2 MP regeners/buffers and a BD to pull it off, now it seems NC have listened and you can do it solo with ease.

Hope this helps.

P.S for party use an acumen weapon and robes to buff, then switch to dagger for DPS, if you are full MP you can pop soulcry to help your party more.

ok ignore everything that was said here except the soulguard and soul cry and the drain comment...ur gonna wanna get a high p attack weapon that is in ur grade and a set of dc or arcana..the nitemare is fine too ...i use dauls..don't worry about ur mp after buffs cuz u regain mana while attacking reather fast (best thing ncsoft has done for this class) beat on mobs it until u get half mp then drain ...i found the best spots are woa fotd vos and silent valley ... as far as tats get ur wit up ..other then that good luck learning ur own path
don he said solo not bot trains and party's and not everyone has 2 sets of armor ..i lvl fine in dc and either duals or elysian axe but ur a dom ...u gotta be ready for pvp orelse why the heack u on a dom right...u ever pvped a dom in any armor other then robe???it's like steping on a bug.. trust me stick with robes you'll do fine,,if u use a blunt remember ur stun works well and ur silence does to for mage mobs..but reguardless what weapon or armor u get to solo it's hit hit hit drain ..but yes vr helps a ton

Well not because your a higherlevel you know much about the game. reaching those level is easy when you have free time or ********..that doesnt mean you know how too play your class(general comment).

But i think your both saying the samething quit emo about it.

In short: Get a set, doesnt matter which one aslong as it is for pve, get a wolf if you have one. Get a dual handed weap or any weap (dual weap is faster kills but costs more shots ). Pick any melee spot to go level(mobs about your level or max 3 levels above you)....and you should be fine
On my second OL (different server, no prophecy oop buffers etc), I used light armor and 2h blunt all the way. So far its lvl 65, and its working really really good. Use alot of hammer crush and burning chop, seal of winter when u get more than 1 mob on you. Keep both toggles on. If you get low on hp just drain.
I've been lvling fine through 60's to now lvl 70 with common Tallum light till i switched out with a common DC heavy. I also use a common dagger and shield , common fists and a common 2 handed blunt. Late 60's and currently while solo I'm outside of Goddard. Just recently i've been soloing at Swamp of Screams and at Wall of Argos from lvl 69 when i went and tried it out. Frozen Labyrnth is good from 60 to 70 if ya want an easy solo spot.

Clan party's though I'm all over the place.
