horrible lag

Horrible lag and constant clicking delays. Starting to get painful when I have to keep hammering themouse and keyboard. Any other servers having these? I'm on Phoenix.
Yes I am on Aria and been having this since they updated to Gracia 3.
Yes I am on Aria and been having this since they updated to Gracia 3.

Yes it's absolutely unbearable. (To me, it started on June, 23, after maintenance.)
I was just uncertain if it's going on only on Phoenix, or other servers are affected as well.

Players from USA and Greece, Russia and New Zealand, Holland and Brazil are experiencing regular lag spikes.

At the same time, PingPlotter (tracerouting program) does not show any packet loss on the way to the servers. Therefore, this problem (either lousy connection to the server or just servers misfunctioning) must be somewhere at NCsoft's end.
I hope NCsoft will react and start investigating the issue no later than in 9 months.
Seriously...

Never has L2 been so unplayable than it has been for the past week or so with these random few hours a day of Lag.
+1

Horrible Lag :(
Not playing my wl sub for 1 week already cause its impossible to make trains with all this lag.
wow, i thought it was just me at first, then i asked around and lots of others were getting it to, and now that i see it on the boards, i must ask...wth is goin on? o0

im gonna do a petition in game. and it isnt my internet, both of my accounts (main on 1 comp, box on 2nd comp) dc at exact same time, and i know its not my internet cuz vent and america instant messenger dont dc.

ive been trying to set up shop past 3 days but my shops disconnect every 2-3 hours, thus i cant even sell items anymore.

EDIT: this did start right after the maintenance, ive been lagging before too, but not like this, this is definatly not the lag on my end.
It's definatly Local to the servers, or their close network, border routers, or whatever connection they have into their Data Center that houses the servers, because it dosen't effect everyone, just typically those who come in on the same connection. You try saying something to them, and they tell you it's not them, it's us...
Anyone know if they moved the servers from Texas to Oregon?
There is a room after the past Tuesday mainten,at Martyrdom, big room, where only 4 mobs spawns instead of 8,and they also are stuck in one wall of the room.

Btw Franz down.

FAIL - 0 packet loss does not mean that it is an NC issue - please post your complete tracert log so that it can reviewed to see where the data hang up is.

Not fanboi'ing NC, but until people starting posting up the complete tracert logs - it could be a problem with the ISP instead.
yeah I get that too.

First I thought it's because of my location - I play on Phoenix from Europe. I've got used to the slight lag though playing about a year.

However right now the lag is much worse as some actions are getting delayed more than the others.

Basically it looks like the pockets are getting lost on the way to the server or back from it.

My provider responded that it's not their territory. So it must be something with certain global providers. Perhaps people who lag all depend on these same providers...

And btw when I play at GMT0:00 to like GMT3:00 the problem seems to be non-existent.

Again... not being fanboi - just trying to help out anyone that is having this issue.
I had this too after the June, 23 maintenance. Completely unplayable, 8-10 second freezes, my pickups took so much spamming of the F key it's on my finger started to hurt ><

First tried full file check, no help.

Then deleted the L2.bin file in the system folder (don't ask me why, I just noticed it was mentioned in several crit error messages). Rebooted, including rebooting my modem and it's been fine since :)

When you start the launcher it will automatically update that bin file.

Not saying this will help you, just that it helped me, can't hurt to try ^^

edit: ps: I am on Phoenix and play from southern california if it helps
on Teon and laging since the event, its same way as few weeks ago

look into it and fix it please if you can, some oficial info from GM would help too, starting to feel like on a private server...
it has something to do with the event... and the few gazillions new (trial) accounts being created to buy the 24 scrolls.. and the constant fireworks fire off when some1 makes a +4 and up enchant on the event staff... and where the heck are the dorf craft shops in giran?

P.S. ofc the only way to actually confirm this is to wait till the event is over... and then some. broken as intended, kudos to those involved.
Playing cardinal on raids with 3 sec or more lag before I see the heal going off is kinda exciting lol.

Someone pls look into the lag.
Buffing a full party and keeping prophecy up is kinda fun with these lags, click a buff, nothing happens, click again, double buffed, and at the end of the buffing you notice that 4-5 party members did not receive some buffs because they got lost in the lag >.<

But yes, being a main healer with these lags must be lots of fun, especially if you are one of those who still feel sorry when somebody in the party dies :D
Nah, I laugh when they die lol. And most of the time so do they :D

Yes, you're fanboi'ing NC.

Lol tracert log. Stop trying to look smart.

There are people from multiple countries all getting lag at the same time. Are you even in a clan? Use Ventrillo/TeamSpeak?

Why doesn't WoW, EverQuest, EverQuest 2, or Guild Wars lag for me? No Vent lag. No lag for any other internet services (Streaming Video, Internet Radio, Download freezes/slowdowns/resets/failures, etc.).

No one needs to post anything for you to see, cause your hypothesis is totally incorrect. The problem is widespread, across all servers, and across many countries with hundreds of different Internet Server Providers. Yes, it's the players' or ISP's faults! Whatever.

It's not a problem with the ISP, since almost everyone has a different ISP, or is coming form a different place.

People Lag all at the same time, D/C at the same time, freeze up at the same time.

This is not the first thread about this:

http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=202993 (June 18th, 2009)

It's been happening ever since Gracia Final went live, and really got bad after the event after the launch came out (you know, the botched event). Seems like it's getting worse since this event went live. It almost seems like a pattern. Something is up, and it's not our fault.

Stop trying to look like some technological genius, tracerts won't do anything if the server is lagging, but responding to pings and requests on time. Do you know how lag actually works in these type of applications?
I'm usually a big defender of NcSoft, but this is definatly an issue. It also dosen't happen all day, it's like in waves... Bad during the afternoon, but no issues in the evening, then it starts late at night again, etc.
yeah I get that too.

+1 same problems but then on Aria, makes it impossible for me to xp during my prime play times :(
They devoted all there ressources including good hardware to Aion. We are left with the crap. Didn't you hear?
Did they take ur tinfoil hat too?
I saw someone mentioned tracert logs. If you post your tracert logs make sure to clear up your origination IP or even the first three IPs especially if you have a static address. You don't want people trying to **** your pc.

The lag has become an event. When there are clusters of agro mobs I would try to lure one of them out. Run in close enough then run back and kill that one. Well, this time it lagged and by the time I unlagged I had ran through the entire pack of agro. After that it was a 4th of July foot race. When I do unlag I can see how far my hp bar has gone down and I quickly try to click on a potion.
Tracert is useless. Has nothing to do with your connection.

Anyone know if they moved the servers from Texas to Oregon?

Depends if you are talking about an eastern or western server. For instance, Phoenix is (and always has been) an east coast server, so it's not in Texas (or Oregon for that matter). Tracert shows it in the same area it has always been:

Tracing route to 206-127-155-130.plaync.com [206.127.155.130]

This is a tracert from Australia, hence the ~300ms (that's normal ... speed of light and all that). Routers tend to use airport codes for their locations, so you can see the route going:

CBR (Canberra, Australia),
SYD (Sydney, Australia),
Crossing the Pacific Ocean (huge jump in pings from ~24 to ~210),
SJC (San Jose, CA),
ORD (Chicago, IL),
LGA (La Guardia/NYC, NY)

Once it goes inside NC's network tracert is blocked, but you can see the last hop before it does is "iad.llnw.net". IAD is Washington DC/Dulles area. Phoenix and the other east coast servers are I believe hosted in northern Virginia somewhere, so that would be correct.

So no. Not in Oregon or Texas (for the eastern servers at least ... not sure where the west coast ones are hosted).
A friend just told me the lag on all server it's cause of that event with enchanting and i believe him , so maybe remove that ty event?
Sieges today were unplayble, 10s server lag every minute even more often. If you wont fix this, ppl will call retail worse then private servers cuz not even there are such lags.
its just impossible to play at all. It took me 1min to buff whole grp when w/o lags it takes 10seconds :D not talking about that it just impossible to target anyone or you are just standing for few mins and cant even move!
They devoted all there ressources including good hardware to Aion. We are left with the crap. Didn't you hear?

Actually, Aion lags too.
So this weird lag spikes where things acting all funny isn't my comp glitching like i was starting to think cool. Obviousely just the usual event lag junk pretty much so after event we should be back to our normal game lagg and DC's and all the rest we get.

Your friend is wrong:

http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=202993 (6-18-2009)

It had already been spiking for days by then, so let's assume it started on 6-15-2009.

When was this event released? 2 weeks later? Seriously. It has nothing to do with the event.

The only reason why there aren't as many people in that thread, is cause Moxie did something really stupid: moving it to a forum hardly anyone reads.

Again, use search. The servers have been lagging like hell ever since the release of Gracia Final.

I do like how some of the people who initially said "nothing wrong on my end" are actually complaining about the lag now, though :P
yes, i experience major laggs on franz too (was a bit less b4 the event started, after is unbearable), but the most funny thing is that NO ONE FROM NC SOFT didn't replyed so far (i mean, see when the event started and all euro servers were down, they did say something)
so pls ppl, find a way to optimize your game engine/servers for next updates, or don't make them at all because i don't pay 45$ to look at pics or become insane because of the lags
and yes, Trensharo is right, everything works fine except l2 :/
u should give a about your costumers i think

The thing is, though, that the lag CHANGED for many people. Initially, I had those weird "hold on my screen is frozen for five seconds" lags 3-4 times per evening, which was annoying but I could still play fine most of the time. Now, I get those frozen screens and IN ADDITION severe lag ALL THE TIME. And that started, for me at least, last weekend. Also many of my clannies started complaining about the same lag this week. So something must have changed recently.

And yet at the same time, it doesn't seem as if it's server-side. I have no lag whatsoever and neither do any of my clannies that I have spoken to. I do have sympathy for those affected by this problem though ... it's most likely a malfunctioning router somewhere that some players' connections pass through to reach the servers, but others don't, depending on their location/ISP/etc. Those kind of things are notoriously difficult to diagnose and get fixed, because it depends on whoever owns the router noticing the problem and actually caring enough to do something about it. And it's rarely your ISP or NCSoft ... it's someone in between.

Yes, that is what I think, too (since I know that some people can play just fine).

And I fear we will end up in a

my ISP: "all fine here, must be somebody else, ask the game company"
NCSoft: "all fine here, must be somebody else, ask your ISP (and send us your directx report)"

situation.
but why it should be isp problem if ppl from USA, Russia, France, Sweeden, Greece, Ukraine, Poland etc etc are lagging as well? we have same isp's? or mb same channels? ofc not

it can still be the ISP...NCSoft's ISP
but, "we have no problems" (c) Ncsoft

Coz some of those countries cross the ocean same way on the internet road?

Its all about routers and stuff. Its not your ISP specifically, but ISPs along the road.
wat? what ocean europe countrys cross to euro servers? :D
wat? what ocean europe countrys cross to euro servers? :D

Iceland? England? Scotland? Ireland? Wales?
I have no lag whatsoever

Some time ago (at 2PM GMT) I logged in and faced no lag either; so what? It could have been just a short lag-free interval between lag fests...

And it's rarely your ISP or NCSoft ... it's someone in between.

Ok you beat me to it...

For the beginning, here is a picture illustrating the most typical connectivity problem in which you can blame neither NCsoft nor the end user's ISP because it occurs somewhere half-way:

http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/5315/ohuevshiyrtcommtge24fr3.png
(Occured on November, 13, 2008)

as you can see, data packets can't go through due to insufficient bandwidth or malfunctioning router (located in London)

Since my local ISP is not responsible for the state of trans-European internet backbones, they can't help me, formally... they can, however, change the routing so that my packets would go through different pipes, like this:

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/636/telia206127155130plaync.png

Note that you can't see the final half of the route there, wonder why?
As you may know, Phoenix and other East coast servers are hosted at llnw.net (LimeLight Networks), the notoriously congested, lag-pested ISP (probably the cheapest and crappiest ISP that NCsoft could pick out there in US). It seems to me that they have some kind of firewall preventing my tracerouting program from testing the rest of the route. Yet sometimes it slips through, and thus I can see what's hiding behind filters and firewalls at llnw.net, on the way to Lineage2 servers:
insane PACKET LOSS!

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7247/fullnw206127155130playn.png
(Occured on April 9, 2009)

At the same time, when I insert random IP's from llnw.net and ping them, it displays the whole trace (I don't know why the complete trace to Phoenix won't show up at most times). So, when I need to test my connection to the server, I just insert one of the last known IP from llnw.net (instead of Phoenix's IP) and watch what's going on at NCsoft's ISP networks.
Usually, it's the same: packet loss all over the road, which means lag and disconnections for every player connected via that route:

http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/8560/faultylimelightnetworks.png
(Occured on November, 26, 2008)

Once again: the samples above are OLD! They have nothing to do with the current lag problem which I think is SERVER-SIDE.

So, enough with old samples, let's get back to our present times - see below.
Here are freshest test results related to our urgent problem (taken when I suffered from severe lag spikes the most):

The part before llnw.net -

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/1156/looksgood206127155130pl.png

- and now the trace via llnw.net -

http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/7922/looksgoodtge24fr3iadlln.png

(both tracerouted on July 3, 2009).

As you can see, there are neither ping spikes nor packet loss anywhere.
Even the infamous sLimeLight Networks seem good.
Nothing looks suspicious near my end, in the middle of the route, and close to NCsoft's end.
Everything looks as good as never before.
Only the last hop (or hops) remains covered and un-tested: it's that very node where Phoenix is physically located, at NCsoft's private network.

Feel free to speculate where exactly the root of the problem is, and who to blame.
Anyway I blame LLWN.NET.

Does anyone know why are they so bad? Are they aware of the problem, do they fix it? Or are our internetz broken forever?

Btw for me it's not only Lineage2 - lots of Northern American sites are very slow, some downloads show only like 20kbytes per second. And indeed they show the same symptoms - losses at llwn.net visible in tracert logs.

Oh and sometimes that host right after LLWN in my logs (68.142.83.98) also showing asterisks so perhaps it also causes some problems.
Iceland? England? Scotland? Ireland? Wales?

oh ye, La manche is ocean :D

p.s: about tracerts, all ppl with problems have same tracert as 1 month or 1y ago...
How does one tracert? Someone link me to a guide plx.
Start -> run -> write: cmd -> ok -> /tracert server ip

servers ip you can find in google

That one time (a couple years ago), when I submitted a ticket to NC tech support regarding severe lag problems, I got an official answer that the lag was ISP-related (occured at llnw.net) and it was out of NCsoft's competence to do anything about it, thus the case was closed.
Mind me, NCsoft deliberately picked llnw.net as a host for a few servers, yet refused to fix the issue... how typical of them.

This time though, it seems different. You see, other servers (Aria, Sayha) are located elsewhere but they are also laggy. Same can be said about Euro servers.

And it should be emphasized again that latest lag spikes are server-wide, as big numbers of players experience them simultaneously (just look at hero shout).
Yet PingPlotter diagrams still show nothing suspicious...
since the lags are on euro servers too, i doubt it has anything to do with that US ISP ncsoft is using, but everything looks like some weird server lag mb connected to the event

why?

idk about you guys but i like to see weps floating behind ppl as they run and i also really love the fact that when i run and try to turn my toon does a HUGE circle and sometimes can't stop turning =D, i don't get this lag in any other game but L2 haha....
Why I don't have any lag?
I'm jealous everyone has something I haven't D';
ohh i hate u :p

i wanna play but i just can't and i need noble so **** much :/
NCSoft's Aion EU beta servers also lagging, or maybe its because of them - either way both games unplayable right now.
Hi folks,

If you guys are experiencing persistent lag issues, we ask that you please submit a support ticket to our technical support department. You can do this by going to http://help.ncsoft.com and clicking on "Ask A Question" at the top.

Support will want to gather information from you and may ask you to run a network diagnostic tool (they will give you instructions on how to do this) so that we can find out exactly where the problem is. There may be some connectivity issues between our servers and certain ISPs and we will need to pinpoint where the trouble might be.

When we don't receive any support tickets, it may take longer for us to diagnose and fix the problem. A lot of times when we see posts on lag appear on the forums, we don't get a single support ticket on the subject and as much as we'd like to be able to monitor each and every single unique connection to our game, that simply isn't possible.

Thanks!
anyone got help from support?
Live or Automated?

Because last 2 tickets I opened.. I only got automated replies.. sometimes I really wished there was a bot report button, to use on the support section.
Lyzira, why should we send petitions if we get automated responds? Or just messages that the problem is ours? I mean it isnt ours because everybody have lag problems since some time ago. So its a global problem and not our internet problem or whatever. We always get automated answers! This is not very personal and respectful in my eyes! Looks like gms dont care at all and its a bad costumer service!
To me, it looks like everything is back to normal (so far), with just negligibly random delays. So, the problem was not "event related" (since the event is still going on).

I still believe it was something at NCsoft's internal network, and as soon as some technician or the system administrator realized something's wrong, he just fixed it somehow ("OMG if my boss finds out what happened, I'm sooo fired!!!"), and I bet we will never hear any details on this matter.

That's why I insist that we need a team of live GMs actively monitoring the servers in-game, so that they experience everything first-hand and reacted promptly.
keeps lagging, only morning the lags are ok, more ppl = more lags, sieges = insane lags => server problem...but i am wating "fix your router", "restart pc", "full check" response to my support ticked anyway
they fullfilled my expectations....hey i am lagging, whole **** server is lagging...whats their response

fix your videocard driver!

you see moxie why we dont bother sending any potitions, your support is totaly useless without any decent knowledege of whats going on, its like asking the busdriver i saw few days ago how to fix my lags
I realize that some of you might not have always had the ideal experience when it comes to submitting a support ticket but understand that we do have to filter our tickets in order to help as many players as possible.

We are on the lookout for tickets relating to this recent lag issue so please bear with us if you get a less than satisfactory response at first.

If you are having a problem with support or the support system on this, please send me a PM with the issue so that I can make sure your ticket ends up at the right desk.

Thanks!

While your video card driver may not be the root cause of the problem that you have written in for, it can still affect your game play negatively and exacerbate an existing problem. Our support team will work with you to make sure your setup is optimal for playing Lineage II.

Once this has been corrected, if you are still seeing the original issue (which in this case, you very likely will be) please follow up on the matter.
As a point of interest

In town its really bad.

Out of town its good except for the occasional spike where i lose a bunch of packets or whatever i seem to skip around...but not too often.

Also when i go into windows mode i get the message the GameGuard has detected an illegal program running.... WHICH I AM NOT... and crashes that window...which makes me pissy...really pissy.
I play on Aria from Texas; I don't usually have lag but am getting a lot of 1 second lags these days. Also getting 30 second or more frozen screen lags - had one client on one computer freeze a very long time, and the other computer still fine, wtf... anyway lag is very bad to have, makes olympiad a bad idea and any xp involving more than one mob a potential easy death.
any xp involving more than one mob a potential easy death.

Thats very true i am letting that dictate where i level...exp not very good but real safe. I actually don't mind it that much cause its a relaxed way of levelling and i still get 11% per night on lvl73

If you're noticing an issue mostly in town, that probably is separate from the general lag spikes that people have been seeing.

Have you written in about the latter issue? That sounds like a resolvable problem.

No i haven't sent a ticket. The town issue is annoying but i can live with it. It never used to be so bad. My thinking... if it doesn't prevent me from playing leave it alone cause things usually resolve themselves. Sometimes we can make things alot worse by messing with them.

So far although annoying i can live with everything cause it really hasn't stoped me from playing. Even the GG issue is resolved by me logging in again and again. It may take sometimes as much as 5 tries but eventually i do manage to log 2/3 accounts on the same comp.

Thanks though Lyzira
Interesting.. seem like most people are getting stuck at the same location....
still lagging but not like before. now it's around the clock, never improving. not so harsh as it used to be though, you can do stuff but occasionally it lags for a few seconds. very annoying.

Yes, it has improved a little bit - it is somewhat playable now, but I still get short "frozen screen" lags every now and then, and constant little 1-2 second lags every 1-2 minutes (and after each of these I cannot right click assist anymore, I first have to target something else and then I can assist again). It works for casual xp parties, but I would not want to do any pvp like this. And the really interesting thing to see will be how the next sieges work out - the last sieges had just the most horrible lag I have EVER experienced in this game. I was on my SE, and I ended up staying in town because it made no sense at all to even go to siege ground, and in town it took me literally 2 minutes just to give 2-3 buffs to everybody in party.
Some time ago (at 2PM GMT) I logged in and faced no lag either; so what? It could have been just a short lag-free interval between lag fests...

True, but I play at all times of day (literally, I have very weird work/sleep hours and in any given period of a few days I'm on at virtually every part of the 24 hour cycle), and I haven't experienced even a hint of lag. Neither have any other people in my clan that I have talked to, and they reside in various places around the world. So my point is that it doesn't appear to be a strictly server-side problem, otherwise everyone would get it.

Having said that, you also go on to demonstrate that you aren't getting any significant delays or packetloss in your particular route to the L2 servers (yet I assume you are experiencing lag in-game). So the two sets of symptoms seem to be arguing against each other. If it was truly a server-wide lag problem, this thread would be 100 pages long by now and everyone would be reporting issues. I would be curious to see if other people affected by the lag had or didn't have packet loss.

It might be the fault of a router beyond where we are permitted to tracert to. After it gets to a certain point, our tracerts stop (i.e. a router somewhere is configured not to respond to ICMP packets). Not everyone may run through the same router to get to the servers. In particular I note that most people affected seem to be coming 'from the east' (i.e. Europe, heading westward into the US). Myself and most of my clan, who are unaffected, are coming 'from the west' (Western US/Canada, Australia, Asia, heading eastward into the US). Might just be coincidental but it's worth noting.

Anyway, NC certainly has a responsibility to investigate this with their upstream provider. The evidence shows (many people from a wide area with symptoms) that the problem is more likely to be 'closer' to NC's end than the users' ends in this case.
Hi,

Thank you for providing the requested information.

Sometimes connection issues are caused by the way your network is configured. As a temporary troubleshooting step in an effort to rule out potential switch problems, we would like you to try bypassing your switch and connect directly to your modem instead.

To do this, please perform the following:

1. Locate and remove the Ethernet cable that is plugged into the back of your switch from the modem. This cable may be connected to a port marked as a "WAN" port.

2. Replace the Ethernet cable currently plugged into your system with the cable you removed from the switch.

3. Confirm that your Internet connection is working properly by visiting a few websites. If you cannot browse to a website, please reboot your modem by unplugging the power cable to it and plugging it back in.

4. Reboot your computer, and try the game again.

This is not intended as a permanent solution, but will help us pinpoint the cause of the problem that you are experiencing.

If this resolves the connectivity issue then the switch may need to be configured properly. The best place to find assistance with configuring the switch can be found at the switch manufacturer’s support website.

If the issue persists while directly connected to the modem please let us know.

Regards,
James
NCsoft Technical Support

Ok guys, sorry for all the trouble! All your lag problems was because of my switch. Sorry again!

Lyzira, may you please high kick James with safety shoes?

I'm joking, I know those who replied me, Carlos, David and James, are fictional names. They are named after the elves living in my switch.
If they replied to me that way.. I would slap them with my Cisco certifications.. until they started bleeding from paper cuts..
Its like this in all online games support... they don't want to waste a little time listening to the people that have knowledgement at the area and can help detecting the problem. They prefer to point up the problem to the videocards and the user routers instead of think that the user at the otherside can be really usefull.

+100 :x
Within the matter of 10 minutes I dc'ed 5 times and died 3/5 times I dc'ed. randomly my WC willl stop auto following me and just stand there to get her kicked by mobs because of the lag. Yes I love this lag!!
Support ticket created, much good may it do me. If there's a fire underneath somebody that can be lit, now would be a good time.

Lyzira,

No offense but your Technical Support team is a couple beans short of a bean burrito of intelligence. Bypass the Router/Switch when Downloading/Surfing the internet is fine all but Lineage 2? Do a network Diagnostics and reformat your PC is about all the information I've ever dragged out of them when its not my Computer Problem instead it's your connection. You guys blame everything but your end or your code/GM's. I've learned to just deal with dying on a daily basis because of the lag in this game and random disconnects or critical error's that insue while playing your game. But please do not insult our intelligence with your "Tech Support" teams inexperienced people.

When I had to wait 48 hours to do the Quick Class Change because a Lazy GM would do nothing about a bugged NPC that just shows what type of "Tech Support" NC Soft offers its customers because they don't want to do anything at all for there customers. "I'm sorry we don't interfer with ingame mechanics please re-petition if you have any more questions" was the responce I got, a bugged NPC that isn't working properly is a ingame mechanic for me to fix? LOL Please, I'd have more luck on a 286 staying connected 24/7 then actually staying connected on your game.
Guess what, yogi is back... and the lag with him...
I have one account which is played actively, one account which is played as buffer/shop and one account which was exclusively for shop. Now I will not renew the shop accoutn because it is next to useless. It is DC from couple minutes to 1-2 hours after I launch it and for the last month it succeeded to stay online overnight only 2-3 times at best.
As for the account which is actively played my Necromantress got killed already 3 times the last week only because of the DC (she goes alone so no one can save her when the connection disappears).
So 1/3 less income from me for NCSoft... not that they care...

Bots will have better market. Even tho i saw some dead bots too so probably they also lag.
I confirm i had the worst lages ever since the event started, now is somewhat better.
It is not so bad as others describe it, i Only died once and DC 3-4 times, but my overnight shop gets dc very fast. Not even 1 hour in average.
However, dont blame Lyzira. She will just leave like the rest and we will have the same problems.
I hope she manages to overcome the frustrations and help us as she can.
Serving us prefabricated answers is not her fault, rather it is job related, I am sure she woudnt if she could.
Lets state our problems, insist on them decently, then go back to the game or leave. Tertium non datur.
M
I been finding the lag/lag spikes and disconnects have been getting worse regardless of time of day. I have had no problem with any other game or program in regards to the internet.
It's back with a vengeance and there's no yogi to blame this time.
Yup, the lag has been pretty bad again the last two days - and that is AFTER the event, so it's not Yogi's fault. Constant lag spikes all evening - game runs fine for one minute or so, then a 2-3 second lag spike, and that over and over again, with sometimes a ten second lag spike thrown in for fun and excitement. To be fair, I had a nice conversation via the support ticket with a GM (he even requested some pingplotter data), but in the end it was pretty much as I expected it to be, apparently no problem with the servers on NCSoft side (and to be honest, it cannot really be a server problem since many people CAN play without lag), but the pingplotter traces showed some constant route changes on the way from my computer to the servers, so right now I am stuck with trying to explain things to my ISP, and all I got from them so far is a bunch of "we forwarded your question to the responsible people" emails and nothing else. So I guess I am kinda out of luck. The game is not completely unplayable for me, it is just not fun, and I can forget about sieges (the lag is HORRIBLE there, and playing a nuker who is standing around for 15-30 seconds in lag hell is not really the best thing to do at a siege).

Same here!!!! Terrible lagging!!!!!!
It has nothing to do with Aion Closed Beta 4 this week-end.

Another Territory Wars week-end messed up because NC West can't handle two games. GZ!

Same here, everything's exactly as described above.

Even Olympiad matches are laggy to watch, and I don't even think about participating under these conditions. The participants complain about lag too.
Hero chat is full of "LAAAAAGGG!!!" shouts, coming from different people all the time.

Once again: it can't be end users' problem, since many players experience lag spikes at the same time.
The fact that some players claim they don't lag can be explained by the insufficient bandwidth/high packet loss hypothesis: that is, while some connections are processed by the servers in time, some others are not. That's simple.
Once again: it can't be end users' problem, since many players experience lag spikes at the same time.

on different servers from different countries! So, +1 !
Lol the replies are entertaining yet sad. Funny to see the Lyz send you guys in game to receive automatic rejections. Ultimately, that is what they are. On top of that shes willing to go out of her way to help cover for the inability of in-game support. Frustrating job. I wonder if she knew that upon signing up? Either way, Ive stayed out all week due to lag for XPing oly.. Just doing raids, and that alone is enough reminder of how unenjoyable it is to run into walls constantly and watch your character defy your interests. Why bother telling us to send petitions for a problem that is completely widespread? Your company should have already been on the case for sometime, and contacting those affected to remedy a solution. Instead youre wasting peoples time and frustrating them furthermore with a handsome **********. My opinion will probally be subject to editing by the morning though like usual.. :(
Do you understand that this game has become totally unplayable ?
If you play more than 1 hour, you get sick.
Almost 5 weeks now.
I'm guessing this is something that has to do with the internet route game packets travel. I have not had more lag than usual except at the beginning of the Yogi event, which gave me those good old 10 second freeze ups :/ I futzed around a bit, deleted L2.bin and some other things, defragged, did full file check and it cleared up, although those things may have had nothing to do with it ><

Seriously, I suggest that everyone with this problem send a support ticket. http://help.ncsoft.com/

They will ask you do do some things like tracer route maybe and send back the results, which might help them figure it out. Add a link to this thread in your petition lol

Don't want to start losing players over this :( Getterdone ncsoft!
just a thought... did anyone try Start/Run configsys flushdns ?
just a thought... did anyone try Start/Run configsys flushdns ?

The DNS resolver cache is built new every time you reboot your computer. So - yes, everybody here has done it.
i just bought this game yesterday and i been waiting on automatic update for over 12hrs plus and after reading this stuff im scared lol.Nsoft has some of the nicest looking games out of all the MMO companies.
The lag when in a large wide spreed effect like this is more than likely on Nsoft side and im sure they are working very hard to fix it but probably spreed thin atm with Aion being atm their prize game and their priority.NO company wants to lose players and im sure Nsoft who still runs old games "Lineage 1" care to keep their players happy!it will probably be sometime before the fix happens.Maybe someone spilled coffee on a server router @.@?If it wasnt on Nsoft end it would be more than likely seen on other MMO/Large Multi player games and im sure alot of ppl play more than just L2.To me it sounds like a Server memory issue that might be struggling after the event was being put in.Maybe most reasonable cause to this is taking most of their techs and putting them on Aion to fix he bugs on that game.Probably when they did this L2 was running fine and someone slipped up<humanly>and thought all was well and forseen the event to run fine.Reason most ppl get the automated responses is b/c the techs are hopefully hard at work to find the bug/flaw causing this issue without taking away anything Done/earned durring the the event.
Woke up and the lag was gone this morning. Nice timing as I was already set to cancel my account but didn't. This is one of the reasons I keep my account on a monthly billing cycle. I can quit at any time. Love the game but I simply refuse to keep pounding the keyboard and mouse and get aggravated. This is supposed to be for fun and relaxation and take my mind off other things.
It's not gone for everyone :( I'm chatting with a clannie atm who has lag so bad he can't play.

This needs to get fixed and soon ><
must

fixxxx

laaaaagggg :(
i found a fix for my lag.

i closed my game and opened spider solitaire. :(
Lagging too (Australia)

Monday, lagging very VERY hard!! I really hate doing that!!!
I am really getting this now too... very bad Friday, very bad Sunday. yet mostly ok Saturday ><

everyone on my server getting it no matter where they play so, NC needs to look into this on their end :/
Tuesday morning (7 a.m.) for me, and still experiencing heavy laggs :/

plz..help ;/
Hi,

Maybe it comes from your mouse. Have you checked it?
Please do the following :

Locate your mouse and follow its cable to the back of your tower/desktop.
Unplug the cable from there.
Play Lineage 2 with only the keyboard.

If your problem is gone, even if it isn't a very nice solution to hear, you'll have to play without mouse for a time. Contact your mouse reseller for better drivers or to repair the device.

If the problem persists, send us a photograph of your intimity so we can check every possible source of the problem.

Bozo,
Your dedicated NC West Support Team.

Those of you that are reporting regular lag, please submit support tickets to our tech support group if you have not already. Follow through with support when they ask for more information so we can find out where the problem lies.

Thanks
I did, and after handing over all the information, I was told there is 100% nothing wrong on NCSoft side, but that there is a problem somewhere on the way to the servers, so I should talk to my ISP. And my ISP gave me the "we have forwarded your question to a different department" treatment until now, so I guess I am out of luck there. I agree that more people with lag problems should write a support ticket (there are so MANY people with lag, it must be hundreds per server) but then when a problem at some major bottleneck on the net is identified, it would be good if NCSoft would talk to that ISP - consumer complaints are usually dismissed, especially since it's maybe one or two L2 players (if that) per local ISP, so they do not see that it is a big problem many people from many countries have.

As I mentioned before, I did have the lag problems in the past, but every time I was able to detect where it occured (sometimes it was an intermediary/global ISP, sometimes it was NCsoft's ISP i.e. llnw.net). This time, the visible part of the route looks quite fine.

Therefore, it must be something somewhere at NCsoft's internal network (or whatever is hidden behind that firewall that blocks the final hops from tracerouting), or it's the server itself that is going out of sync (not processing some players' data packets in time).
If the latter is true, then it's understandable why tech support can't address the problem: instead of monitoring it in-game (while participating in a siege or an epic raid) they try to "pinpoint" it by reading random players' reports (while maybe one player out of a hundred bothers to submit a ticket because everyone knows it won't do any good).

Done that, and when the automatic awnsers ended i got two conclusions...
Terrible Payd assistance and it's not my problem.

instead of losing time telling us 1kkkk try/fail solutions in our end, just loose 5 minutes looking at your servers.....is to mutch to ask?

yes it could be.. since what you all don't get is that it would NOT be NC's fault, not saying either way, but you people always jump to the conclusion that all the worlds problems are NC (yes most of them are, but not all).

If you have had an issue with a particular ticket you've submitted, please send me a PM with a ticket number and we'll take a look. Help me to help you :)

Many, many people play Lineage II lag free every day, and lag problems are generally not in the same place every time. Sometimes the problem is with a person's ISP, sometimes it is in the middle between you and our servers, and sometimes it might be on our end. There are many places along the way from your PC to our servers where a connection could have a problem and we need tickets from you folks in order to determine where the problem is.

New network issues anywhere in the world can appear at any time, we just need to keep tracking them down as they appear.
well, IDN... I'm still experiencing lags.. :/ I'm sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now we don't have NPC's.... is it still a problem in our end? should i contact my ISP?
....
i'm confused

The NPC issue is unrelated to standard lag reports and we are not in need of further tickets on this matter. We are addressing this issue and hope to have it resolved as quickly as possible.

We do very much appreciate those of you who sent in tickets to let us know the first time you started observing the NPC issues so we were able to start working on it as early as possible.
I will report it to this thread too. I have lag spikes like all of you since the enchant event started. I been having ever since. I am playing from Greece to phoenix server and my internet connection is fine since I tryed downloading big files etc, all working as they should & other mmorpg is working as they should (Age of Conan full detail etc in graphics in 24 inches monitor 1920x1200 no lags ,no nothing). I don't know what it is but please guys do hurry up is so terrible... I can't stand it anymore.

The first thing they will usually send is a program that will tell them if there are any reasons why your computer/connection might be having trouble playing Lineage II.

After that, we'll look at your connection (assuming that everything looked good) and see where the problem is occurring between your computer and the server you're trying to connect to. When we know where the problem is, then it can be addressed :)
Also been spiking all day from noon forward on PHX server. Not on my end, not supporting tickets to automatic responses either. GL Fixing it on your end.
I played in this morning and everything is ok.
But when I returned at night everthing is just as bad as before. I play on both NA and EU server, but phoenix has extremly bad connection these days.
Yea, watching the olympiad on pheonix atm and its a complete joke. Everyone is lagging horribly, people having trouble buffing in 60 seconds.. Its real bad, and its happening for a fair share of people. Its whatever, voice your concerns here and you'll be told to petition. Just have to wait for somebody who knows what theyre doing to figure it out.. ~.~

If your customers are experiencing problems like this though and need network information, why doesnt the support contact various customers if need be to solve the problem? I have clannies in russia/E europe/W europe/greeze/brazil/East US/West US/Central US experiencing the problem. Something tells me it isnt a problem with my ISP. Its the same as anything else though I suppose. Have a problem with bots? Its up to 'you' to report them! It begs the question why we are all so stupid to keep paying.. :(

Sometimes the problem is with a person's ISP, sometimes it is in the middle between you and our servers, and sometimes it might be on our end.

The problem is you, or your isp, or it "might" be us :))))))))). That statement would be a little less offensive if you kept it parallel. Since Aion beta has started up, the problem has usually been on your end. Please provide quality servers that are at least consistant. Most people playing tonight are having a very poor L2 experience because if they arent experiencing lag, a fair share of their friends are. On top of that, NC wont admit to the problem either... Rather.. its your problem..
Please, everybody who is on Phoenix and has lag problems, write a support ticket. I did so and sent them some pingplotter data so that they could compare it to the data sent in by other players - to find any similarites, e.g. "everybody who has lag is using this-and-that route". But the GM then replied that so far only 3 other players had opened a support ticket about lag problems today, and that when they tested their servers, there definitely were no lag problems at their data centre. When I see the posts here and then consider that only a minority of players ever posts here, there must be hundreds more with lag problems. Write a support ticket! Tell your clannies to write a support ticket! Show them that there are LOTS of players with these problems, or they will never realize that there IS a huge lag problem many players are suffering from. And do what they are asking (the gameadvisor log file), because that contains the path from your client to their servers, and that will help figure out if there are any similarities between the players who have lag.

Yes folks, please do this. The more information we get, the quicker we can find out where the problem is.
I live in upstate New York, and the lagg has been horrifying. I play on phoenix aswell.

So.. thats my two cents..
My ping to Phoenix was only 48 last week
it became 70 last two days and 98 tonight. Horrible
Lag on Phoenix and Devianne here, ticket opened since 1 week. :S
Yeah just noticed the doubleing of the ping to the PHX and Deviane servers for what they used to be for the last several years. was 40 now orver 70

Guys, let us not mix together the two different issues: ping and lag.
Unless you are a pro Quake player, you won't notice the difference between 40 ms and 70 ms, especially in a game like L2. An average human's reaction threshold is around 150-170 ms.
That is, my ping to Phoenix is 170 ms and, when the connection is fine, I barely notice any delays. If you are playing on a Euro server from Australia, you are supposed to have 400+ ms ping there, and everything will happen to you with constant half-second delays.

The current lag problem is not about milliseconds: when it takes ten SECONDS to target a mob (while previous mobs were targeted instantly) it's called a lag spike. It means there were no communication between you and the server during the last 10 seconds at all.

Today I got a few ridiculously long lag spikes when I could not even pick up herbs before they disappeared. Sometimes there was no lag, and a minute later the game was unplayable again.
And, for some reason, I tend to think it was the server-side lag. Server-side.
Aco, I was just commenting that it seemed kind of strange that the ping has doubled. But week before last I was having lag spikes just thought another user on my network was going crazy with downloading junk. Well it appears others where having the same issue.

No, server-side lag freezes the mobs too. After the lag stops, everybody (including heroes) spams "what was that?", "server's going down", "spudnik sat on the server", etc. Generally, soulshots have lag pikes before that.
When you can give commands to your character while the screen is frozen, that comes from your connection. The server is still happily working, you just don't get the information on what's happening. That connection problem can come from anywhere on the tubes of the intarwebz, but when a lot of players from different providers, from different countries - meaning different starting routes - are experiencing the same lag, chances are it doesn't come from your switch indeed.
Some players are experiencing a little lag since Aion beta servers were opened again. There might be little bandwidth problems near European servers end. Maybe the last nodes of the route are common for too many players. Anyway, it's problematic for our Territory Wars, which are just on Aion beta week-ends. I mean it doesn't lag enough for me to dodge the autotargeting loldaggers :(
