Enchanting Event - Why I Don't Like It

General Discussion Started Last reply 62 posts
Only meant as constructive criticism and not to be a wet blanket.

The "buy" every 6-hours is a total turn off. It's not about the Adena, but being forced to log in and track the time to take full advantage of the event. It's just a horrible idea on every level.

The events that are fun, are ones you participate in when actually playing. The drop rate is so horrible, that unless one is taking advantage of a mechanic that has nothing to do with playing the game, but more of tracking the time, it's not even an event one can have a hope of obtaining a good reward from.

I just returned after a few years, and have been having a blast. Frankly, I'm ignoring the event for reasons stated, and that is a shame, but I'm not going to become a rat in a cage looking for my feeding every 6-hours.

-FH
They made it so you can buy them at a higher price whenever you want to, and noone is stopping you from putting up a buy shop for even less. If you feel you need to log on every 6 hours to get "full benifit" of the event, you might have some addiciton problems.

Go see a shrink or something, you dont really seem healthy.
Smittie - Get defensive much?

I enjoy "playing the game", and rarely use buy shops. I have dwarves that do my spoiling and crafting, and other characters for other PvE/PvP. I'm sure you must understand all I'm saying is I prefer events where participation is based upon playing the game, and where buy-shops is an adjunct, not a requirement.

-FH
How was my response in any way defensive?

I see how you play the game, I play it pretty much the same, and so far I have yet to enchant any staff, I just sell the 24 scrolls to the closest buy shop, IF/WHEN I remember to go buy them.

Your post came across as addictive though, you might wanna look into that.
My only problems with the event are the D to C and maybe even B weapon enchants. I don't see the point in having them anymore in any event and I'm sure no one will turn in a staff for any of them unless it was by mistake.

Also the drop rate seems horrible, seems the same for all my toons ranging from 13 to 65.

Other than that I think it's a great event.
At least you got that high and don't blow your weapon half the time going to 4!

I think 11 or 12 was my highest out of probably 1k enchants.

You can't please everybody, if they did a classic collect drops as you exp event half the board would be full of "NOOOO another bot friendly event NO FAIR"

True, but the irony is this event is more bot favorable than any other. In other events, I simply log in my bot killer and wipe out their network in a given area so my real character can play the game. In this event, the bots master is using the adena and drops to simply sell in shops.

Yeah thats the main problem, everything else looks good. Everything below <14 is useless and is no worth the time and effort to enchant it.

It just those rewards doesnt suit the player base anymore. Really the cubic quest system is enough, we dont need D,C,B scrolls as event rewards. Not even single soul buy them anymore, I have hundreds of scrolls ready to be sell, I guess I have to OE something to make a good use of them.

However not everything is bad... I will say this was a good try with some fail in it... =D, so we can all learn from it and move on.

I love the no-tradable items feature, thats good!
I love the NPC "buy scrolls every 6 hours" good job.

Why!? We all hate it !
Why I should like it when I got 3x same @#$)(@#$)(_ goggles and friend got Hats and I want that what she got and she that what i have ;(

I thought about putting a buyshop. But when I calculated how much of my personal time I would need to spend on clicks and drag-and-drops to reliably get anything useful from the event...

Which brings up one of my pet peeves ... make the silly enchant process simpler for the love of god. Nothing was wrong with old style click scroll click item to enchant end of story.

Same applies to augmenting btw, why on earth do I have to drag the silly stone there then drag the gemstones then pick the correct number.

Yeah after doing some math/time calculations I reach the same conclusion...

In order to get some reward from this event, the best option would be to buy scrolls from a NPC and sell them at any closest player buy shop....
I haven't gotten anything past +15 but I still like the event. The low drop rate means that botters wont be able to clean up on auto. Last event someone linked 13k+ nectars in ally chat :/ At least this way they can only get as many enchants as they have accounts.
Yah, I participated a couple days now, and I can rarely get the staff +5, cuz it blows going there. It's only worth going to +14, because isn't that where you get the items to wear? While I like looking at the hat on people, and the goggles are cool too, the fail rate is way too high for me to enjoy the event.

However, I am really happy that we have the option to buy the scrolls. As a healer, I've missed out on several of the events because I couldn't participate (Gatekeeper event and the Valentine's event) so it is nice to have the option to buy the things, even though it is an adena sink and I'm too frustrated to continue with it ...
I like how they made this event. You can get a nice 24 pack every 6 hours for 6K. There's the option of buying it for more if you prefer and thus putting a CAP on scroll prices. I have buy/sell stores running and all I have to do is get up and go to buy at Yogi. This event was made for the lazy like me and I'm loving it. If I'm late by 2 hours so be it. I keep a log of when I last got my scrolls that way I know exactly when I can go again. Sometimes I use the scrolls but right now I have accumulated close to 300 of them. Pre-level 14 prizes could have been better. At +7 isn't bad and thank goodness someone actually gave those shadow items a lot of mana instead something small like 200. Just my random 2 cents.

That's exactly why I hate it. Glad it works for you, honestly, but here's my life. I have a very busy schedule, even when off from work, because of kids and well, life in general. When I can play the game, is when I expect to be able to participate in the event. This event makes it exactly as you stated, one that requires having a "Timer", and logging in to buy scrolls every six hours; to the extent possible.

I'm not trying to convince those who like the event, not to. I am just trying to articulate what I find so incredibly frustrating about it. I'd just rather have an event that rewards you based upon how much effort you put in. This type of effort (ie: Timer every six hours) is not "FUN". That's the point. The last event I remember before I stopped playing last, was the Devotion Bow thing, I think during valentines day, and I loved that, because it rewarded you for actually playing the game.

I had a Bot Sheriff for that event, and when the bots took over an area, I just brought in my Sheriff and wiped them out. You can't do squat about bot bosses buying and selling scrolls every 6 hours. This event is awesome for bot bosses, because they can buy the 24-pack on each of their bot accounts without interference, and sell them without interference. The irony is this event is better for Bots than other events.

I don't understand your logic. You say you are busy but you want to play the game to get the items. No one is forcing you to login and buy the scrolls every 6 hours. This is an option. You can grind for them if you prefer. The way I see it is that it is much easier to just login every 6-12 hours and grab my 24 pack rather than grind for them. Next week I plan on taking another vacation and I'm not going to cry that I'll miss being able to get scrolls every 6 hours.

If I'm not at my computer, I can't log in. Now, even assuming I carried my laptop with me wherever I go, and log in every 6 hours to purchase scrolls. This is not my idea of fun. Because of the ability to purchase scrolls every 6-hours, the drop rates suck. So my logic is that if the "buy every 6-hours" wasn't in, it would be like other evernts, where while you are able to play one can obtain X amount of Y to possibly get prize Z.

I understand it seems contradictory, but it's not.

-FH
I just log in, grab my scrolls, sell to the nearest, highest buyshop and log back out again. Made almost 100 Mil so far for literally 15 minutes total work.

Yeah....what a crappy event.

Buyshops vary in price throughout the day, as low as 18k and as high as 40k usually right around 30 is a sure bet though.
Manic - If your life took you away from your computer, with the exception of the 2-4 hours you could play each day, you'd see my point. It appears most are close to their computers most of the time, so my point is falling on deaf ears. It's fine. Not a big deal.

-FH
At least..... it's better than events that you can only obtain fireworks lol

If you've gotten scrolls just from Yogi for every 6 hours that the event has started then the max you would have made by now is around 25 mil if you sold them at what Yogi sells it for.

Your kidding right? My wife and I just started playing this game and have level 33 toons and level 38 toons. We loved getting a bunch of D enchanting scrolls for our weapons to get them to +4 and glow. I have a pair of riding goggles, which I personally like, and my wife a top hat. (both non-shadow) Now we are saving up C grade enchant scrolls from the +11 enchant reward for when our two mains hit 40 in the next couple days. This all from the 6 hour cooldown purchases. We already have collected on two +11 staffs too!

Not a single soul buys them any more? Quit complaining. You know this isn't true.

We've met several players leveling characters in our adventures so far that are also new to the game. I am sure they too are enjoying receiving enchant scrolls. Afterall, you can't find people selling them usually and when you do a new player like myself can't afford their inflated price.

I'm glad to see an event that allows all levels to participate regardless of what the majority might want. I'm glad they were equally fair to everyone and there are rewards for all to enjoy.

Thanks for a fun event.

Edit: You might notice the join date on this account is 2006, but I only played long enough to hit 18 and quit because everywhere was too full of bots then. I'm glad to see that is different now too.

What a waste :(

Sell them and buy your EWC scrolls, if you really think you need enchanted C-grade weapons on your first toons.

Whoa, thank you for telling me how much I made during this event. That's pretty awesome.
The event would be great, except the rewards spaced out like they are, are horrible. Keeping the S80 and even S grade stuff high is reasonable, because of the rarity of the items. But keeping fireworks and enchants in the area up till +13 is ******ed. So basically you have to get to +14 or higher to get anything reasonably worth anything to anyone. The enchants are a dime a dozen especially with the cubics. And keeping the standard enchant rate for the event, with the current reward rate is horrible. If the event rewards were stacked this way, the enchant rate should have adjusted to fit the reward stack. This and most of the rewards for all events as of late aren't properly weighted and ratio'd. Most of the low end rewards are not even worth it. The event could be a lot more rewarding, but for those trying to get some of the more rare items, and even something of value, it is pretty frustrating. But at least events are still coming down the chain, but they could be better prepared and more rewarding.

hm ok lets count.
EWC currently sells for 400-500 thousand

if you sold your scrolls for 20k each you would get that sum for 25 scrolls.

do you really get +10 for each 25 scrolls?

because for me it mostly breaks long before that...

as of EAC they are way below 100k last time I checked (it was long ago though)

perhaps people don't sell ewc/eac on your server anymore but this is only because no one buys them.

just shout that you want e*c and I bet people will be willing to sell you in bulk way below the price you get them for using the current event, counting opportunity losses..

oh and there are also those fine yellow and rough yellow cubic pieces, first can be exchanged for EWC for 330k and the second for EAC for 45k... most people have loads of those pieces and they will love to get rid of them for small price.
I used 1 1/2 hours to use all 240 scrolls I save for few days, that is a pain...
so far I've gotten two +15 and turned in for two tat earrings. also gotten at least 2-3 times +15 again but blew trying for higher. (and top grade life stone not worthwhile, better to shoot for ews). Price of tat earring on most server is 10-20m or more right? That will buy complete C grade gear or a B weapon; turning the staff in at less than +15 is waste imo, unless you have to have the hat or mask. selling to buy shops sounds like a good idea also.

My usual event luck has continued. Just tried enchanting with over 300 scrolls. Not one staff got over +8. If I would have just sold them for 25K each, I coulda raked in over 7 mil, I know what a dummy :-P

You 're obviously referencing that Aipu person buying EVENTS. Which is ridiculous, everybody knows you can't buy the whole event much less many of them

I recently returned, and have a love for Lineage ][, so don't get me wrong, but that picture above, speaks volumes for one of the biggest reasons the NA population is so small. I'm shocked the few playing provide enough support for the bots and farmers to even be here.

I didn't bother with the it, cuz this screeny pretty much sums up the Bot Event!
I opted for camping, whitewater kayaking, bonfires so Hugh you could roast a whole bag of marshmallows at once and partying with friends. No goggles or top hat but I had smore's & BEER! mmmmmmm :p

Yeah... sure... if you are on Phoenix, send ingame mail to Muyhan, Ihave a lot of EAD/EWC/EAC/EWC cubic parts. You could even get them for free, I will have tons of them anyway in a month of so. You don't need to waste an event on such a crappy rewards.

If you were really wise you would try to either sell scrolls or make higher level (like 14/15) staff.

But maybe you play on the wrong server if nobody sells them...

You don't need +4 weapon in D grade. And you will have enough C enchants when you hit 40 and do the quest. What inflated price if people are cuttiong down their price just to sell it cause everybody should have tons of them already?

I raked in about 230m from this event, so I can't complain too much.

But I did rage quite a bit every time I broke at +16.
Some people seem greedy. It needs to rain down S80 gear for them to be happy.

Same with contest, people wouldn't be happy unless they only had to click one button and then automatically win 20 x-box360's
i'll be happy when gear is appropriately priced.. and if it takes an event to do it... so be it..

when things are multi billion adena ... it's simply facto wrong.

specially when people keep insisting on purchasing "bailouts"...

I have a couple screen shots at home from the first day of Franz being open that can beat these--but not by much!

As for your shock, in all seriousness--if you are shocked by what you say above, then you don't see the game that I see.

Bots and farmers are not supporting ebayers (although that clearly continues). These bots (and by far the largest % of bots in the game) are, imho, run by PLAYERS who simply want to cut corners.
So to help you get over your 'shock'--as long as there are 10 players left in the game, 9 of them will be running multiple accounts on time cards and running bot groups FOR THEMSELVES. They won't be selling to gold sellers or leveling toons for sale, they will be gathering gold/mats to use for their "legit" main.
Go find any handful of heroes on your server--essentially all of them do this botting every day and always have.

There. You no longer need to be shocked :)
~D~
Did they lower the success rate on the staffs? I have used over 200 scrolls and only 3 got past +5. About 70% of them blew up trying for +4.

I have a similar shot from Hunter's Village during the first Piggie event. There were hundreds of light elf males in their cute gray outfits in HV, all named in numerical order. They would even KS my pigs. And when the bow expired they would still be targeting and hitting the pigs with their fists... until their owner noticed and sent them back for a new bow.

It is at this time that I realized profoundly that no one was watching this game, and I just decided to get on with my own business and played a game I enjoyed. There are those of you on these boards that have made many comments about my attitude, but I'm a realist. I could either get mad and go to the forums and rant and rave over and over (which is not my style) or accept them as a part of the game and not let them get in my way. As a result, I have enjoyed this game, and am still enjoying this game.
i think the staves should have blown up and given you fireworks instead of crystals.

yeah my name was like that too, was checking out another server, not my own :)
the characters i make on other servers to scope things out are always named "MeowMeowMeowMeow."
You still can enchant why not hop 2 it instead of QQ'ing on the forums
My main complaint is that the event is not ergonomical at all! my finger and wrist literally get sore.

I don't see how in 2 weeks you couldn't at least get some free s jewls I mean better then nothing
This event overall was awesome. I wonder if they where taking data on enchant cheaters
Nice event. :)
Sad, but i got nothing from it. Used over 3 k enchants, and max what i had, was +17 (was going for S weapon).
Lots of time wasted, and no profit :)

Just my opinion, but I don't think anything about this event was intended for players to profit. I think it was nothing more than a massive adena sink--make of that what you will.
i used something around 8000 scrolls and exchanged 4 x +16 and 2 x +15.
it's not +20 but it still is some profit.
but i agree that rewards up to +13 are not very rewading and it forces people to gamble, and probably alot of people are stressing their luck trying try to reach +2x at all cost.
also, clicking over 8000 scrolls is a real pain, it took me whole saturday and half of sunday >.<
Ya, if another event like this came up with the same rewards...i dunno I would probably participate somewhat but only to get some of the lowbie shadow items. This was the only event I have seen where people literally gave away scrolls just due to absolute lack of interest. I dont think I have ever seen that before even in the last pumpkin event.

Last night I just went off and decided to get a ton of shadow items. So for several characters I have about 3000 hours of shadow top hats and goggles each lol, works for me I guess.
still think the event would have been much more fun if the staves crystallized into fireworks.
