You are right and people do use their lower-grade gear (e.g. PL, demon, homu, kris) for careful pve, depending on what other gear/support is available. It does not matter what are the individual item bonuses, like +4 STR, as long as they earn the highest exp per hour.
In any case, since only S gear matters in the end there is no real need to make extensive changes in C/B/A. It's almost like arguing about which NG armor has the best price/performance ratio.

Sure a A grade tank with ++ con and C grade weapon will play the same roll. what is the difference the weapon will give him/her the same bonus of health. tank don't that are tanking don't need the p atck
I am not saying I was a fly on the wall that day or anything...
But my guess is that 5 years ago, a peep couldn't be in B / A grade as soon as they hit level and that the armor was suppose to be a grade or two lower than your actual level.
Actually, back then, it was rare to even be in top grade when you got out of your grade and into the next.
Maybe the developers were thinking on those lines and decided to make your early investment last longer and be worth more as we strived to get to A grade.
Both have a lot of HP, I even went +4 STR, -4 Con on my WS and it helped kill quicker.
For PVE the extra HP does not really matter, mobs should never get you lower than 50% and if they do, you're doing something wrong :).
I noticed a big difference going from a full FP ( top C grade) to full BW ( B grade).
I bought a common AOBA ( to replace my Yaksa) and I figure this equipment should serve me very well till S Grade. My damage went up a bit, Yaksa has 156 P atk , while AOBA has 194.
The difference is not that great though and it matters in solo PVE, in group I doubt anyone would care about me doing an extra 30 damage with normal attacks.
As a conclusion I think that the differences are not that great indeed, but they will start to matter more and more when one reaches the high levels. You know what they say ... every bit helps :).
Also you cannot really compare a C weapon with an A one, me thinks. I am talking about top ones here, anything else is useless. Why do I say that ? Because it affects your SS efficiency. I preffer to use the top weapon in any grade (if i can afford it ) because it gives the most damage while using pretty much the same number of SS. This makes killing mobs a bit cheaper, sice you do the maximum damage possible. If you OE your weapon that efficiency goes higher and higher of course.
Here's another comparison between Top C and Top B blunt , yaksa vs aoba
yaksa uses 3 SSC - at a cost of 24,25 per so one hit costs you around 75 .
Aoba uses 1 B which is around 78-80 so pretty much the same cost, except you add the P atk in equation as well , so you do more damage for pretty much the same price in SS.
For me as a WS that is important as I can craft my own shots and for me the cost is much lower, depending on what I pay on crystals and soul ore.
For armour, I think I can skip A altogether, but I wouldn't expect to easily kill lvl 74 mobs while I am still in BW.
As a first time player is very difficult to afford equipment when I need it. I might be able to buy an A grade armour when I am around 74, realistically I expect this, since S grade is absolutely crazy in prices.
So it's what you can get as well and when.

Except for PL and Demon set all others are worse then a B/A grade. Only Archers and Mages can keep those sets cause they dont engage close combat. Still the bonus on DC light and Robes are away better.

Go check Berserker Blade focus. It has more crit than any B or A 2-handed sword

S80 Crit SAs are huge.
Most daggers will go Crit Dmg or Haste anyways in higher levels. Only matters in C-A grade...

um.. no. major arcana gives more matk than demon plus it adds wit instead of taking it. also A grade DC robes are better because of casting speed. +4 int makes really little difference in damage, much less than PL for physics.. cast speed increase gives more dps... unless you can 1 nuke mobs in demon .. but its rare now with the nuke damage spread.

well tallum heavy set gives 8% atk spd and maj heavy gives str + acc (very useful if you use attribute S grade at A grade).. in light sets maybe, oh wait no there is A grade archer set ..

See I'm one of the tards that got all the way upto 76 using C grade gear. Well on my nuker. On my main I used bgrade armor but always used the best ingrade weapon. Heck I even used D grade jewels to A grade. The only reason for that switch was tha I was fighting mobs that had decent magic.
Demon with my OE homu still 2 maybe 3 shot all the mobs I fought. I switched to Karmian for a bit but the 2 shot became 3 sometimes and being a melee main my kiting skills are lacking. As far as A-grade went I couldnt afford it and did't want to bother to get it because I was cruising using c-grade. But in pvp using my c-grade gear was insane because cast seed rules in pvp and not landing power.
People go on that there is a huge pdef difference in the armors. Well for a nuker it shouldn't matter. The way I xped I could say almost every mob hit me once and unless I wasn't paying attention to my mp I never died. Also I didn't bother buying my robe mastery skills from 40 - 74 for saving my sp for skills for other levels. When I finnally decided to buy all thos skill levels I got a massive 65 point increase to my pdef, its huge.
Oh and for those that don't know fully buffed demon set/nightmare robe matk @76 and +11 homu is ~3400 switch to a DC set is ~2400. The 1K matk is a huge difference in damage and landing of debuffs.

In an area that drops herbs? -castspeed, -runspeed and -maxMP (compared to DC robes) does. Not that good for CDLing either.
You surely can level to S-grade in Demon. But frankly, you can do it in Devotion too.
C grade weapons and armor are garbage once you hit A grade. Who would rock a weapon that requires 3 ss/sps when B and A require one? Who cares if the dagger gives an extra 20 crit or so. Restocking every 20mins isnt logical. Enjoy your C armor around 64 while yo uget 2 shotted by any melee / archer class in the game.

How about you all STF U ..? In pve matters, yes, it is possible to level from 40-76 in C grade, I did that a couple of times so I can say from self experience. But I agree if you have a couple of wars its nonsense.. Upgrade your gear as you level accordingly, or you will be pwned everytime.

Apparently the only thing you've learned about the game comes from an off-server that probably doesn't even work the same way, have the same community dynamics, and has increased rates for XP and adena drops. The economies aren't the same, blablabla. I can go on and on.

-15% what? More Casting Speed? You don't need that casting speed. I leveled up to 6x in VoS using Demon Set and kept the big cave (across from the entrance) just as clean as any nuker in DC Robes. There are A Grade sets with lower Casting Speed than Demon Set. The lowest casting speed sets in the game are in B and A Grade (Doom and NM Robe). I fail to see the point.
As for Krissa, the difference between MP Pool in Demon and DC isn't enough to be a huge factor IRT MP Herbs. You'll have to put on a Mana Up or Conversion Staff and Divine/BW Robes to see a significant jump. Demon Robe MP isn't that far behind Avadon, which is not that far behind DC, respectively.

What does PvP have to do with levleing up to S Grade. Cause PvP below S Grade even matters? An A grade toon will get rocked in Majestic Light too, cause they have no Attribute Resist and it seems like you have not felt what kind of damage you recieve without it... Did your PServer have a working attribute system?
You can PvE to 76 in PL set. The P.Def isn't all that much of a factor on an Archer. You're XPing in herb-dropping areas 90% of the time, anyways, just like the nukers. They have more HP and P.Def than a nuker. Seriously, though, the P.Def isn't that big a deal. You XP without buffs?

Please use search on the forums, before you tell me what I have told anyone. I merely stated that an Archer or Nuker can level to 76 with those C Grade sets. I dunno why you are equating that to "you should level up to 76 in PL or Demon Robes."

My toon was 7x in < 2 month on Bartz, using gear borrowed from clannies and not having created a buffer until level 53. You're 2 month in and still 6x, with Vitality, Newbie Buffs, revamped areas, etc... Gratz! I have multiple 7x toons, and alts high level than most of you toons.

The only toons of mine that do not have gear for their grade are those that aren't played regularly (and weapons for buffers). But, nice try.

Who cares about PvP when all they can equip is non-attributed gear and weapons. You are not, and will never be, a PvP factor at those levels.

those days are long gone. When I started to play my account in 2006, the D and C grades used to be quite active. I could get a group any day, doing a RB,catas, you name it. Now it's all empty ( apart from the bots of course ). Looks like most people are in S grade.
On the other hand the grinding has been made much easier so it takes a lot less time to lvl up.
