Im new to this game starting today. Downloading client as I type this messege.
I was after some heads upto which server I should start on and where it will be suitable for a beginer (ofcourse that mean I will need tolerant people arround me as I have no idea what Im going to do in it lol).
Im from UK and going to play at random times because of summer holidays. you could say I can be on anytime starting next week lol.
I looked into some classes and I think im going to make a Silver ranger (pardon me if I get the name wrong). Apparently they are the fastest class to move arround with and Im addicted the fast movements lol.
I haven't decided on a char name yet but it will be something like KhanSR (all my chars end up having my real name in them somewhere lol).

You're from UK. Don't forbid yourself to access to the Territory Wars and Castle Sieges by going to a server in USA timezone. And there's less people to play with at your hours.
There are 3 European servers, minus one with a very bad attitude. That leaves you Teon and Franz. And Teon is better, of course, no question there. (Hint: because I'm playing there!) ;)

If you want to have a chance to participate in stuff like sieges and olympiad during reasonable hours, you should choose a European server: Teon, Luna or Franz.
That's because such events happen at fixed times, which best suit players in the European time zones.
If, on the other hand, you plan to be free to play at any hour in the next year(s), just choose the server with the lowest ping.

Heck yeah, I love sieges and raids. Everyone running crazy like headless chickens - can't beat that lol.
Welcome to L2, its a great game for those with patience. Remember, its just a game and always have fun. Dont get discouraged if you feel everyone is so much higher level than you. Just find a clan that is nice and easy going and hang with people your level.
Im on Bartz as N00dl3s and the situation is not that bad. Problem is all the bots giving no place for real players to hunt. And if you kill them to get the hunting spot they auto ressurect and continue hunting like nothing happend and you are the looser left with PK penalty for killing another player.
The game could be the most awesome game cuz it has all the potential already there. Give it a try.

Although, at the moment in the game, the dagger has more skills and advantage (Plains Walker) by the time you reach any higher level, god only knows what the developers have in store for the PW. Not long ago no dagger could even get a group; the game was geared around ranged damage dealers.
If you are Euro, best to start on a Euro server, imo. Although there are Europeans on all servers. This is because of the times that the server wide sieges, territorial wars, Olympiads, and primetimes are set.
And Bartz right now is very quiet, so depending on what you are looking for in the game, it could suit your purposes. Contrary to N00dles opinion, I think his clan and the others like it is what has ruined Bartz :D

Thank you for the heads up, I really appreciate it. I was looking at the 3 rangers from start and SR had the fastest move speed (im kinda addicted to fast movements lol). Yesterday it took me pretty must all my playing time to update the game and get it ready. It was late and i didn't want to go into the game coz I would have stayed up too late and might have ran into trouble with work this morning xD
I really need to find out more info today and decide on which ranger to go fo lol. Currently trying to compare and see which ranger would be more suitable for me xD

Khan, another piece of advice: Get yourself a dagger to use to level up, it is much more efficient. The bow is expensive and slow to use until B grade, actually, when u start only using one shot per arrow ... although the emi bow at C grade is good, but you use sooooo many soulshots. I actually used a falchion, which is a sword, for the first 20 levels.
for rangers, currently i believe Hawkeye is the best due to some balancing they were attempting to correct, and thus nerfing(otherwise reducing) the abilities of silver ranger, and phantom ranger. i've heard a lot of people don't like their kamael arbalasters, mostly i think because of a lack for stunning.
and... hey, what did you mean by Phoenix has attitude? i hope you meant it in a good way... i mean even now that nova has arrived... we're all friendly.
and i'm sure all servers have random pvp headed people who run and hunt newbie zones for cheap easy pvp...

I've had my first taste of L2 yesterday and it was ok, only thing I found is that nobody talks lol. But no biggy, sombody did help me buy arrows through trade channel shout (didn't know where to buy arrows lol).
I managed to (don't remember how) get hold a dark weapon with a coupon for noobs from an NPC, it gives me 49 atk. I have 1 bow skill at lvl 3 (dear god, i forgot the name of it lol). When I use that skill (cost 19 mana) mob is half dead, then 2-3 more hits and mobs die (most of time landing 1 hit if I don't kyte or no hits if I kyte).
The thing I found is that they hit hard lol and I hate getting hit :p . Though im tempted to try out a sword/dagger I don't think I have the money to buy 1. Im only wearing 2 pieces of armour since things are so expensive. I get like 75 Adena from a monster and low grade armour cost like 5k. Some decent weapons costs like 400k+. How on earth am I supposed to get so much Adena lol.
Anyways, my downfall is that I wont survive long if I go head-to-head with those Kaboo Orc Leaders at lvl 12. Im farming those for some exp atm.

I read a bit and heard that PR have low HP with higher dmg which can be a bad thing in sieges lol. HE was interesting untill I read the buff where they gain 50% range/more dmg/ faster shoooting/etc but they cannot move. If i roll a HE I know that I wont be able to stop myself from using that double edge sword and it is suicidal unlesss you have tank/caster class guarding you. SR on the hand was surprisingly ... a survivor (IMO). They get faster movements and healing which was a ++ for me. So i ended up rolling a SR xD
Im on Teon and I have no idea about guild/clans. Not even sure what im doing with the quests lol having a hard time finding Rift Mountain (or something like that) for a lvl10 quest. Keep looking at map and can't find it lol.
I'll prolly bugg somebody to take me in their clan when I reach lvl 35 or so. Till then I need to learn to play the game lol.

For levels up to 4x it is more efficient to do melee and not ranged attacks. The reasons are a) arrows cost, b) bows use a lot of shots, c) you get for free the Vampiric Rage newbie buff which heals you as you fight.

woot ^^ nice one lol. I will port to Kaemel village and collect those tonight xD. Now that you mention the vampiric Aura, I will try a sword/dagger and see how it goes ^^
yeah, quests in each newbie town usually come with equipment.
but... in the kamael village, on the steps to the south east, i believe there is a quest for a full wooden light armor set. it's fast and easy too.
the reason i say find a clan early, is because you gain reputation points for being in the clan academy for set amounts depending on your level when you enter the academy. so if you enter at level 1, you get a lot of reputation points for the clan:)(like 700, not that much really) also, you'll have people you can ask questions, and assuming they are not a bad or stuck up clan, they should be pretty patient with your questions, and some times willing to help with equipment.
also, when you reach level 20, there is a set of armor which only clan members can wear. clan oath armor, which you get through a quest in gludio, or schutgaart.
allo khan, i am a complete noob too. I started just a few days ago. I spent the first day trying out all the classes i was interested in.
i decided to go dark elf pal knight -> bladedancer. i like the idea of the class. Play what you want if it's unfun switch to something else that's my motto.
I cannot stress how important it is to find a guild. I met a really cool guild posting on the questions forum and they have helped me out with shots, gear , adena, ancient adena and more importantly have been showing me the many and i mean many things to do in a day in lineage 2.
When starting out, run all the noobie quests. All of them , some of them dont give xp only adena but the main ones from the newbie guid to your class change get you to level 20 in about an hour. Grinding pre-20 is pointless it seems.
There is an armor quest you should do pretty quick i think it's the southgate at Kamel called "supply check" that'll give you a set till 20.
when i hit 20 i had around 200k adena.
so once you are done with the newby guide , go to dion i think and get your common set , you will notice a huge damage reduction with our newby buffs, get a common weapon too. I don't know about your class but the common equip is very cheap.
check gludin, gludio, dion i think they have alot of repeatable adena running quests. If you find a guild they will more than likely point you in the right direction and maybe throw you some junk.
one of my guildies gave me a +6 sword to use.
im up to level 28 i am very casual i log in for an hour or two grind some mobs log out hand out with clannies and am really enjoying it.
i have fun just getting lost in the game though.
anyways, good luck if you were on a US server i'd help you with anything i could even though im still noob. Warning when you get into the game check the time on your clock it can get really addictive.

I log on, shout hello/evening/greeting - no response. Sometimes i get stucka nd ask a question - no response. I used to play another MMORPG before this and no matter what time some1 logs ona nd says "Hi", there is always someone there to say hello back - made you feel like you are amongst other people, not a bunch of zombies lol. It's ironically funny ^^
Right now im gona stick to my new found friend and follow him/her (ehh, don't even know if it's a guy/girl, didn't ask personal stuff lol, just joined party, asked a million questions about the game, then we went off killing stuff) and try to learn as much as I can.
I haven't seen any clans recruiting and I didn't get a respond to my shout (typical) looking for one. yeah, i understand clans are important, benificial and helpul - but that will have to wait untill i meet some "people who talk" and decide, untill then im happy learning the game and different classes.
Im gona stick to those quest and try to make some bucks like you suggest ^^
The biggest problem I got is the game control, in all the previous MMORPGs I played Tab key was the "next target" shortcut. I will give you my fighting experience in L2 (it's funny as hell, bare with me):
Sometimes 2-3 mobs aggro me, I kill one, try to Target next one (pressing tab out of habbit and mumbling some swearing words), close inventory so I can see the mobs (2 mobs still chewing on me), Click on 1 mob (oops click didn't happen so char moves a few steps steps), panic click again (char hits the mobs and i kill 2nd mob), click again to choose 3rd mob (clicked the loots on floor, wtf !), my face is almost red from the frustration and lack of game control.
Usually im lighting up a cigarette after this sort of fighting. Is there anyways to use a key for selecting next target? My fun factor of the game is ruined by this frustration lol.
Right now the game doesn't matter much and I can take a few deaths no problem. When the time comes for siege and raids I don't want to be in-effecient and screw up badly in fights because the game does not have a key for selecting next target. That's when it will really p*ss me off lol.
Anyways, I will put some more patience into it and try to enjoy the game with people rather than with game controls.

ALT-C gives you a list of command icons, the "next target" is the arrow-towards-a-target thing. Put that on your shortcut bar and... use it :)
Unless you fight mobs above your level (pink or red), you shouldn't have problems with the armor from the Supply Check quest. Stick to white or green ones!
Go to dion or giran i think it's how you spell it. I thought the game was dead too till i saw the wall of purple text. Tons of people there. I cannot stress how important finding a clan is. I joined one and there are only about 10 active people but we have some good times just talking smack in guild chat and they have all helped me out a ton.
in terms of combat i know what you mean. I keep double clicking mobs and when im in NOS (learning acronyms :) ) i pull mobs to aoe them with my polearm. 50% of the time i click them i click somewhere on the map and end up running aorund it drives me crazy.
im getting used to it, just remember this game isnt the same as other ones. It's always hard to get used to new UI new config etc. I hope you stick with it and find some friends, if you were on phoenix i'd gladly take you around and you could get lost in cities with me.
come to think of it if you have problems finding the major cities you can jump on there message kittiarra and at least i can showyou some of the important quests etc. then you can go back to ur euro server and at least know where they are.
Go to Pheonix, its got the biggest english speaking population, you wont experence endgame content until way later anyways. People there are kind and will help you out.
