Download game = 4 hours
Download patchs = 12 hours
create new character and play for 1 hour, server shuts down... = Doesn't this seem a little... ******ed?
So I just created my new character on Bartz, was that a good decision? IE: is it a good server?
All games are like this.
You just happened to do it during the maintenance , that's all.
Coming here to post about your experience after playing the game for 1 hour is a bit well ... strange. I had a much tougher word prepared but hey, I thought I wouldn't use it.
There's absolutely no point in posting this useless crap. Wait till the game is up and play it.
Absolutely all online games have downtime, bugs, issues, download times etc. We all know about them, we've all seen them, we've all experienced them several times.
My suggestion is to read up about classes, make up your mind what you want to play. Use this downtime to your advantage. Oh and whine less ... you'll be amazed what kind of respect non-whiners get.
Well, it's just unlucky but today is the weekly maintenance, servers should be up shortly.
As for your server, if you're US/NA I'd probably suggest Phoenix, or Teon/Franz if you're UK. I'm on Aria, and while it's somewhat active the population isn't what it used to be, from what I've heard Bartz is similar, but if someone from Bartz can give there opinion all the better.
Lineage 2 IS a slow game though. If you don't bot it could quite possibly take you a year to hit 80, and max level is 85. That being said though, I still haven't found a game I like more.
Try to focus on the time you spend getting to the high levels than just getting there. Fiund a clan that will accept you into their academy around level 20. If they're good they'll help you with information and even do a quest with you to get you armor, and if you click you can rejoin them once you graduate.
While I suggested that you start on Phoenix, if you for whatever reason end up on Aria I can offer some more support.

People have a tendency to forget the prior 30 smooth patchings when one goes wrong.
Stick around 5 years, you wont be as upset then :D

Im in the same boat as the OP. But I've been patient and taking my time.
I have 1 request for this sort of situation. Please please allow people to download patches from main site. Downloading patches through launcher is not effecient at all. With my download speed I can download multiple patches at the same time and reduce frustration with a game which I'm about to start playing.
Im new to the game, just installed and updated it last night. I haven't even clicked the "Start game" button. I did ran into the same problem as OP and immidiately thought of how this can be helped in the future.
The suggestion/request/info is there. It is your choice as to how much you push it :)
PS: It's nice to see some official responses to threads like this. Makes us feel as if .. somebody is listening to us.
luckily i was downloading it while palying the AION beta.
I am brand new as well and tbh the download is the reason i kept deterring away from lineage 2. I love the game and am having a blast but getting started is awful.
the ncsoft downloader is really nice to have considering i play aion, guidlwars, lineage 2 now but the download speed is lolful.
I'm glad u just ignored Warfare's Post. But, at least you got to experience how people can and will treat you when you ask simple questions that they don't "approve" of!! :D
I can't imagine why downloading all the updates took you 12 hours!! OMG> I just recently had to delete L2 from my hard drive and redownload and update it.. It didn't take me anywhere near that time to do all of that. ... so you've got patience, if anything!!
As for which server to be on, it does depend if you are NA or Euro. For Euro, look to Teon, Franz, or Luna, though there is a healthy population of Euros on the NA servers... they are just at a disadvantage for siege times and Olympiad, etc.
As for NA servers, it depends on what you want to do and what you want to get into. If it is pvp, well, I am from Bartz and there is activity here... just not much high-end pvp going on.
At the moment, for the NA servers, it seems Phoenix has the most active pvp... and several factions at war with each other. I hear Devianne is picking up too.
