Am I doing something wrong?

Hi im fairly new been playing about a week. Very casual.

Anyways, i started off with a fighter. then to pallis knight. THe first 20 levels were like a hour of playtime.

Now i don't expect to be 70 in 3 more hours but after 20 seems like you just hit a huge wall at least it feels that way so far.

im currently level 28.

a guildy gave me some nice items +6 sword and shield +3 brigandine set etc. and alot of shots.

basically i go to NOS. with my newby buffs etc.

it takes me around an hour to level is this normal?

im going through almost 10k shots , but if i dont use them it seems like killing the mobs just takes to long. Am i doing it right?

Skills seem useless atm. Basically i click, attack, click attack, sometimes i pull multiple mobs when i can and switch to my polearm but it almost seems to take longer that way.

there's alot i like about the game and don't mind grinding but sting misses and power strike etc just don't seem worth it.

if i should re-roll something that's more fun to get into the game let me know. or if im just doing something wrong let me know please. any real newby advice would be nice. most of the guides i find are not informative and are outdated etc.

thanks in advance for your replies.
You're not doing something wrong exactly, just need to change your thinking a bit.

Levels 1-20 did not always occur so quickly. This was a recent change. Level 20-40 slows down some, but still goes reasonably along imho. 70+ will probably make you want to... well you'll see when you get to 70...

Killing mobs - you should stick with greens and whites. If you find it's taking a long time to kill a mob, go kill something else. The more hits it takes you to kill it, the more money it's going to cost you in shots. Not all greens and whites are created equal and you want to kill whatever goes down fastest for you.

When you hit level 40/2nd class, I think the game picks up quite a bit in the fun category. Joining hunting groups, raids, etc takes some of the monotony out of leveling.

.. i don't know how helpful any of what i said is to you ..

Welcome !
Lineage is not like other games, say World of Warcraft, where you can level fast. It will be slow and painful. Just find a clan with nice people so it will be not so slow and not so painfull.
If you think that slow mob killing is boring, then you definetly picked a wrong class. Tanks are not about fast killing:) If you want to kill fast, then try some mage (like dark mystic->dark wizard->spellhowler) or if you like fighters then try Tyrant (orc fighter->monk->tyrant). Or just check all classes and skills http://www.lineage2.com/Knowledge/race_darkelf_skill.html and pick one that looks most attractive to you.

so the mobs im fighting in NOS may not be the best then? they do hardly any damage but neither do i.

any recommendation for a melee class at level 28?

okay sorry i still have some wow thinking in my head like feral dps on my druid and arms/fury on my warrior making me damage sufficient.

i enjoy melee classes in this game so far, i'll try a orc if that's a good suggestion i just like my **** de :)

i tried a mystic but the cast time was incredibly slow. im still learning alot about the game etc. these suggestions really help out alot thanks.
DE mages have the lowest cast speed.

DE assasins are melee that will kill much faster than the knights. Then go Abyss walker.

wudnt say tyrant is the best solo fast killing class really =p lol.... they eat shots for breakfast its a bloody expensive class ^^
Stick with the tank if you enjoy melee, at level 43 I think you get vanguard which makes you into a sort of damage dealer.

Tough it out until then.

PS: If I were you I would make an alt (nuker) to level up at the same time and wait switch back and forth between characters when vitality is at 4. The only reason you leveled so fast is because you had 4 vitality bars. At 28 you should have like 2 bars left, or 1 and 1/2.

You are learning a valuable lesson. Hunting ground/mob choice is very important.

Last night on 44 BH in Ivory Tower Pit--I was trying to spoil recipes from Enchanted golems. I kill them fairly quickly--and each one (which con's "white" to me---the mob's name is in white letters) gave me almost exactly 1 exp. That's 1.00% per mob. Kill about 100 and level.

I can take that same toon to other areas and kill 'green' mobs faster and perhaps do better or worse. I could go to areas and kill 'yellow' or 'red' mobs (higher level than me) and perhaps do better or worse.
(as an aside, I am actually trying NOT to level this Bounty Hunter so while this exp was fast and pretty fair for me solo--I wasn't thrilled with how fast the toon was leveling!).

It is WIDELY variable what combination of your stuff and mobs and their strengths and weaknesses will yield the best damage/kills per hour for you.
Even with good gear, sometimes the 3x and 4x mobs, although they give great exp, are in areas where melee's just can't kill them quickly or efficiently.
For my 7x DA, the "green" stakato's in Swamp of Screams are actually MUCH faster kills per hour/exp in total than the white mobs in Wall of Argos. The Stakatos are easy for melee's to kill--the mobs in WoA are all sorts of weird in what they do as attacks and how they resist.
Same me--same gear--same panther. No comparison. Green Stakatos are much faster than white mobs in WoA.

This will ALWAYS be true for you as you level. There are areas of relative speed and some that are harder.
It is very, very good for you to try these areas out--learn a bit about them--measure your exp/hour and learn for yourself what works best for your toon.
That's actually a fun part of the game!

Best of luck to you!

PS. Lvl 28 PK? You can get 2 levels VERY fast in Abandoned camp and get some adena from the Leopuld guy in Giran (quest).
well i was attracted to the idea of bladedancer. so that was the route i took. Where would be an ideal spot for level 28+ atm or any linkes to a good site or w/e that would show me some mobs/levels would be great.

the idea of making an alt sounds good.

what would be a recommended NUKE class? is that confined to caster only? or are there some good melee damage dealers?

assassin _> abyss walker?

im poor so a poor woman's nuker would be ideal.

thanks again you all rock

ty, i tried nos, was taking a long time to kill and i got .5 for each kill so 200 and i was using so many shots i had to keep going back because of bag weight. being new and having a limited supply of adena (i have around 800k atm) i don't want to keep spending all my adena on shots to get 5 levels with not much return.

the next spot i can't remember the name a guildy dropped me off there and there were these i think they were goblins but they stunned me nonstop. i havent played much since then.

alt +m -> world info -> hunting grounds :) that usually does the trick
You have okay set up,the idea of green mobs really works. The grind from lvl 20 to 40
is much easier now, which is why very few groups exist in that lvl range. You are in a
clan, which will help with having someone to chat with, maybe ask every time you on
if anyone wants to do a kamoka with you, only need two or three to do one daily.
Raids were a popular thing at one time, very rare now.Grinding in catas does work,
you can sell you gss to buy stores, however,if ya want change of pace once in
awhile-try exucution grounds,orc barracks,that kinda thing.
Best spot for a nuker at level 28 is red rock ridge. You can stay there until 39 easily because every mob drops herbs and dies in 1 or 2 nukes.

Don't go down into the wasteland though, stay up where the trees are. It is a great spot to also use the manor system and seed mobs and then go to giran and sell the mats you make for some quick adena.

You can teleport there from Gludin.

No one should really be in Cata's or Necro's until A grade. There are so many good alternative spots to go.
tanks level slow as hell, I dont think you want to play one. I would make a treasure hunter dagger. I think you would enjoy that a lot more. I play bladedancer which I enjoy...or gladiator might be your style.
BD is decent class to go for, their own dances add a lot to their own damage output as well as making any party they are in way better.

If catacombs are too slow for you, get a shadow pole with your D grade weapon coupon and kill 2-3 (or more as you can handle it) of the mobs at Fortress of Resistance (port out of dion). lol, lots of ideas here so, port around and check things out for yourself.
well i was attracted to the idea of bladedancer.

It's a known fact that nukers (e.g., dark elf nuker - Spellhowler) can level 10 times faster than tanks.
Dagger classes (DE and human daggers) also level very fast, especially with supports (while unbuffed daggers tend to miss their special attacks often).
A Berserker (male Kamael fighter) is probably the fastest (and cheapest, soulshots-wise) melee class: at higher levels, you can kill mobs in just 1-2 hits!

If you pick a BD (bladedancer), remember that it's a party-oriented support class (valued for its dances) and that BD's, same as tanks, don't have damage dealing skills either. So, if you try to level one solo, it will also be pretty slow and boring. However, after lvl 40 BDs should not have problems finding an xp party, and high level BDs are one of the few classes that are most welcome in any clan.

In any case, make sure you get the best weapon you can afford (armor and jewelry is not that important at low levels). For example, you can buy a top D grade sword (or blunt) with high P.Atk from a npc shop (say, in Giran); if you don't have much adena, buy a Common version of the same weapon: it's extremely cheap, and the only difference is that you can't use enchant scrolls on it. Using a top weapon provides most efficient use of soulshots (that is, if you get a cheaper low- or mid-grade weapon instead of a top one, you will actually waste money by consuming too many soulshots).
well im using a +6 elven sword now. i was at abandoned camp and just got to level 30. everything pretty much died in two hits. i also have quite a bit of vitality.

im going to try doing a kamel melee dmg dealer next just to see how i like it.

in a way im glad i started off with the slowest of levelers now solo play and when i make a nuker alt or w/e it'll be a faster change of pace.
You have +6 Elvin Sword?

I work like dog and am level 32 with common Elvin Sword, Common Brigadine armour, no jewels and have 80,000 Adenas. I have trouble selling crops cause always sold. I spend most adena on SoulShots and heal pots. I am Elvin knight.

You must be star player.

Am I not getting things right? I do Kama and level in Nec of Sacrifice. zGo to Hardins now.
my clannies gave it to me, b4 that i had 100k, common gera npc bought. i didnt earn it lol. if you are on phoenix hit me up i'll help with whatever i can.

I find myself suprised at the people having damage issues as melees with the other guy begging for 5k c soulshots before. I have a question and a solution. You're in a guild do they perhaps have a buffer/healer that you can run with? If the answer is yes then I would advise you to go and get a wolf. My 30 dwarf is running with a 27 wolf and my 28 dwarf is running with a 22 no name wolf that I eventually intend to sell. I've upgraded my wolf's weapon to the max and his damage is delicious. The negative is it will take you a few million to upgrade your wolfs weapon. The best wolf weapon that the pet managers sell is 40 p. atk and the one I've upgraded to is 93 p.atk. I would advise against upgrading the armor as it was only a 17 p. def increase from 30-47. To put it simply more or less I've doubled my damage output and I don't even have to bother with ss. If you want kill faster simply use beast ss and your wolf will start hitting for over 150 dmg and you can just watch the mobs fall.

Here is a warning you can use ss or you can both use ss but it is dangerous for you to have your wolf use them alone. If he pulls aggro HE WILL DIE. It does not take more than 2 or 3 hits for your wolf to get killed. I'm running my shop on my artisan so I can't check my 27 wolf but the 22 has less than 300 hp and even with the 47 p. def armor his p. def is less than 90. My 22 wolf's p. atk is 145 my 28 artisans is 150. If I was interested in fast kills I could use ss but I'm cheap and prefer just to do our base damage. What do I kill? Yellow or white anything below white is a waste of my time unless I'm scavenging mats off of it. For fun when I was level 26 and my wolf was 20 I tried a breca orc archer that was light red and killed him. His attack speed was slow enough that he only got off 1 shot before he was dead but that shot hit me for over 400 dmg.

Leveling a wolf can be hard because of how easily they die. You need to find a area where the vast majority of monsters are passive and the situation is easily controlled. If you take the North road out of Dion that is the farthest east you will run smack into a very nice area. Almost all of the mobs are passive and you can usually split those that have wandered together. I simply run into the pair or the 3 and make my wolf stay around 5 feet behind me. Once they're all aggroed on me I bring in the wolf and we start killing. You'll be looking for the Amber Basilisk, Breca Orcs, and Breca Orc Archers. The Breca warriors, and overlords are aggressive the shaman is not. You can take the warriors at 28 I'm not sure about the overlords. I have two macros that I use one that causes myself and my wolf to attack whatever is targeted and another to cause us to both switch to the next target and start attacking.

If you don't have a buffer/healer you can still use the wolf till at least level 35. Check to see if the lack of a healing cubic or whatever slows you down and decide if you want to keep the wolf or switch to a baby pet. I'm currently under the impression that until the buffs run out all together at level 62 that I should be alright. My wife and I have a pair of Kamaels and they're going to use buffalo's so if it isn't ok I'll just use that instead.

I hope this helps with both your damage and your level speed.

Simple advice make a dwarf and sell soulshots and wolf collars and your finances will improve. At level 30 I'm sitting on 11.3 million adena and I've spent probably close to 12 million on weapons because I didn't know that I should have been buying common at d grade.

What server you are on;

also it's worth asking high level players for money even if it seems like begging; if you really are too broke for D or C shots, just ask for money, 100-200k makes a huge difference to a new player and is nothing to an old player.

Get a pet wolf for yourself to help with damage from Gludin pet manager guy quest, even if you don't use shots on it, it will help a lot.

when I started the game 4 years ago I was as dead broke as you. I leveled through no grade with no shots and it took a very long time. Had an ssd crafter dorf, and used to run all the way from dion to giran and back (no wind walk!) to buy soul ore cheaper there to sell in Dion and to avoid paying the teleport fee to save money... very little by little every 1000 adena added up eventually. made more money when I joined a clan with a clan hall and started selling the recipes you could buy in there. Making an Artisan alt is very useful just to get high enough to craft SSD, you can farm your own SSD recipe fairly easy, and then crystalize common drops you get to craft shots; use the profit to buy more things you need.

I used to find parties in catacombs every night and we all leveled with no alacrity pots even usually... a rich dorf friend gave me a whole bunch and that was the most amazing thing! I was over level 40 before I ever experienced the buff "Haste 2" !

I play Phoenix.

I know nice dwarf hopefull202 who help me with good price on shots. I have wolf but eats a lot :( You make sense. Maybe i make dwarf.

I could ask but no for me. If I can't do it I rather quit and go back to WOW.

No one in Nec of Sacrifice. I have some tokens to trade in tomorrow for Ancient Adena. Then i get some money.

Thank you for help.
the clan im in is polaris and they are active, and really really friendly.

I feel bad begging so i don't ask for someoen to run around being a pocket buffr for me.

in terms of the tokens from NOS i already turned them in around 10k or so si that bad?

about the pet, he dies so i usually just park him places away from mobs. im level 30 he is level 22. Is it good to buy any of hte cheaper equipment for him so that he can survive or is it safer to just park him?

K thanks you I pm Polaris in few days.

10k could be good don't know.

I have armor for my wolf but no good. Better to have the heal pots in the place you put food.
In Nectropolis he sits in hall. In Hardin he helps fight. He eats lots so not sure if good.

I put pots where food goes. Then I drag to quick bar. If he get hit I click bar for his heal pot and he heals. I have hate.

Hope I help you :)

thanks in advance for your replies.

The first response is the best response you've gotten this far. Pay a fair amount of attention to what they said.

As for my opinion...

If you're under 40 and you are a Palus Knight, you'll be soloing a lot. I know from experience, I used to have a Shillien Knight on Kain during Prelude.

Use 106 D grade Duals (top D)...
Your heavy armor blocks more than enough damage, especially if you have newbie vampiric rage and are hitting twice as fast.

With that, you'll level much faster, use shots more efficiently, and won't be wasting your time using a shield that you won't need unless tanking raid bosses.
70+ will probably make you want to... well you'll see when you get to 70....

I smile every time I read it!

Never use 107 duals for any reason. You will not level faster--you will spend more adena on shots, you will miss a lot, you will never crit.
Duals pre-40 on a tank are just about the worst idea in the game.
weapon is not a huge deal in D grade but honestly if you can afford the shots I'd say go with a dagger -> highest base crit rate...

and then you can still use the shield as well
