Three man party with wolves

General Discussion Started Last reply 64 posts
I have just started a three man party all only L22 atm. At this stage planning on BD,WC and BIS, each with a wolf. Since I play on a laptop, is it possible to actually keep the 3 wolves assisting in combat? Also not sure whether I should continue with the BD idea or SK. Any tips on running the three clients on one laptop appreciated too please (laptop performance doesn't seem to be an issue)

Thanks for your help
I would not try 3 boxing 3 active toons (aka they all have to attack each mob) on the same comp.

This is exactly why I have 3 computers :D
I think you should get either a 4th account for a warrior type class, or drop 1 of your 3 support toons and get one.
it's true...
blade dancer is your strongest melee toon right there.
even though warcryers are tougher than other mystics...

but then again, with those great wolves...
it's like having a few extra dorfs on your side.

now... why in a multplayer game would you feel a need to make a three person team? why not just befriend someone who has what you need?
If your computer/brain can handle this set-up, it sounds fine, except for the fact that the bish isn't needed. The wolves will give you all the DD you'll ever want (provided you equip them with top gear), and as long as you have something with VR you don't need heals. The BD dances and the other WC stuff will turn your wolves into monsters.

I two, sometimes three-box on a laptop, and it's not nearly as easy as it would be on different computers, and it also depends on the mobs. If you have high-hp/pdef mobs it might work, but otherwise it'll just take too long to switch clients and re-assist. Especially with 3 wolves. If I were you, I'd start out with WC/BD/1wolf, and see if a second wolf works. I doubt you'll be able to do 3 wolves, I know I wouldn't, but maybe you'll prove more talented :D

Why are you considering this group-set up though? Do you want to farm katas? Do you want to power level support classes? If those are your 'mains', then please take into consideration that wolves really only work in pve. If you ever join a pvp-clan your only role in pvp will be that of a support. If you're fine with that, then nvm what I just said :D
Actually wolves are better pets in pvp than any other pet, since its the only pet that can get noble buffed. (Not counting striders, since I dont see anyone using them for anything other than a speed boost).
If you can affrod a 4th box i would change the the bish to a sws and make a destro/warlord alongside to just pole the hell out of the catas.

If not I would still replace the bishop with a destro/warlord.

Both do well when poling, I would prefer a warlord tho due to all of its aoe debuffs and hate, it's much easier to aggro a room rather than running around hitting each mob. Just use +con/+str/-dex tats and it shold be just like playing a destro:)

Also if you decide to pole, your toon can pretty much solo catas with good gear and a weapon, so the pets/toons can just leach up to 40. After that you can put your songs/dances on a macro so all you have to do is hit a button and switch clients. make sure to add /sit as the last step in the macro so u can dance/sing an extra song and still regen to full mp.
throw out your entire concept.

Then start over with just two. Run a Prophet and SE with wolves. Put both PP and SE in light armor with duals, outfit the wolves with top gear. Don't use beast shots until your in C grade. Tank with the PP. Set up macros on SE to 1. /target {PP's Name} 2. /assist 3. /petattack

then set up another macro on SE to 1. /target {PP's Name} 2. /attack. This will allow your SE to follow your PP everywhere you go.

Then, stick to field mobs with less aggro. It's hard to keep low level wolves alive in the Cata's.

Back before there were Great wolves, I leveled wolf pets up past 60 with this method... and that was when they got xp depending on how much damage they did.
Running three accs on laptop, just means pressing alt/enter on each one, then alt tab to
switch screens. However, the three wolf idea is totally over kill. The wolf at 55,is like a
dd on its own,you end up using less soulshots cause it uses beast shots and helps
you kill mobs at a nice pace.Make sure you have next target, attack, then wolf attack button all lined up in your quick keys.

Pet UD, xfer pain, queen/pony buffs vs 1-shot-wolf? oO You've never played a summoner, have you? Unless you're excluding servitors and talking about baby pets, which really wouldn't make any sense
Thanks for all your replys. I had originally started with TH, SE and PP. Then I was told by a friend that I should have a wolf for each. Since those toons had just got to 42, I thought I should start new toons just for lvling the wolves and then swap the wolves onto the TH. SE and PP.

Pavlo I think I might take your advice and drop one account and stick with the SE and PP, and use 2 wolves. I have been finding that by the time I alt tab to the third toon the mob is dead.

I am in a good clan and happy just to play an assist role so SE and PP will be fine. Do I need to have the wolves approximately the same lvl as the toons using them?

You're going to have a hard time finding groups with your PP, better swop that out for a WC. I also doubt that you'd be able to 'tank' with a PP since he wouldn't be able to hold aggro, but you won't need to, since you have VR. That, or just raise TH/WC and be owwwwwwwwnage in pvp. Wolves really are only a pve thing, if you ever plan to pvp you're going to love having a TH (one of the best pvp classes atm).

Even better idea, I'll go with TH, WC and 2 wolves. Thanks heaps

I guess you didnt read my sig. 78 Arcana lord. All the servitor buffs and heals work on wolf, Ive been told Transfer pain might not work but I havent tried that one yet.

Also, wolf is not a one shot. It has more pdef AND more mdef than regular summons.

And summoners servitors cannot be nobled...

Also, ANY class can use a wolf, not just summoners...
ye xfer pain doesnt work
Well that sux.

At least its good for other classes then, and summoners that dare use them lol.

You're an Arcana lord? You sure you've ever pvp'd with that toon? In 1vs1 you're roast without xfer pain, and in mass pvp you'll be using your feline queen for the crit buff. Wolves can't be OE'd, wolves can't get attribute, wolves don't have hax party buffs, wolves have a joke for pdef, ect ect... Wolf = great tool to turn an SE or a WC into a one-man army for pve, but in any pvp situation you'll be 10 times better off with an actual summon.

Plus pet-brez's for when your wolf gets 1-shot'd in pvp all the time.

pet brez are incredibly cheap. (even if I didn't have 400+ of them in my WH from academy raiding :) )
You're going to have a hard time finding groups with your PP, better swop that out for a WC.

If a group needs a buffer, he can get group with either pp or wc. But if a group doesn't need a buffer, he'll never find a group with neither pp or wc.

To OP: You don't really need to level 3 wolves, 2 is more than enough. If you are still planning to lvl the TH, PP and SE (so these new toons are just to help you level the wolves), you will only need the BD (unless you wanna change that to an aoe class) and Bis + the other higher lvl buffer out of party.
The wolves do not need to be same level as PP/SE duo, but need to be close. If there is a (i think) 20 lvl difference you will not be able to control the wolf, but it will still get the xp and level up into the 20 lvl range pretty quickly.

Don't worry about keeping aggro with a PP. Those who have never tried will doubt you all day long, but PP's get a general weapons skill, basically, they can use any weapon they can get their hands on, so any +5 duals or better on your PP will mean better than sufficient aggro control. Just don't use beast shots until the PP is in C grade or better, otherwise the wolf will take aggro if it has top gear.

Also, the PP/SE is better than the WC/TH (imo) because the WC heals just plain suck, so better to have the SE. Yes, the WC gets the same buffs as PP and SE combined, but at higher lvls. Oh, and when you go into a room with aggressive nuker mobs, its nice to be able to start things off with a silence spell on them to protect the pups.

Lawl. If a group needs a buffer and there's a PP and a WC, they'll take the WC over the PP anytime. A group has to be really desperate to take a PP these days. Unless they're 83+ of course.

That's merely the general idea being fed into people's head here. WC is definiately so much easier to play than a PP for sure. But playing a PP well worth a lot more than a well played WC, unfortunately not that many people is up for that challenge since it's not the easiest/most powerful/most appealing class to be played in general ^^

Nope, it's the observation of someone who has a pp, and doesn't refuse to play it live. In a full group you buff everyone, get recharged, throw in the last 3 missing buffs, and then sit for 20 mins. Now, before you say "well, PPs are still useful in small groups"... small groups tend to not need a recharger, and no recharger = no se, no se = no vr. I guess a nuker or archer group won't care much, but the nuker groups are few, and I haven't seen a pure archer group (outside of sieges/raids) in a loong time.
PPs are the most painful class to solo I've ever played, and a WC has all the buffs that a PP has and more (aside from the elemental buffs which I personally quite cherish, but I really seem to be the only one there :( )

Please educate me. How is a well played PP more valuable to a group then a well played WC?

Definitely doable. All you need is macros.

Make an attack macro for each character and in the macro have /attack and on the secondline /petattack or whatever the command is.

When you hit the button both the character and the wolf attack.

On the WC make a second to assist and a third to buff.

On the Bishop same thing, only change buff to heal.

Done.

Alt tab back and forth :).

Not this crap again, how many pages did that delete pp's thread go to after I stopped reading it?

That's only the observation of people that don't play/enjoying playing a pp live and gets fed with ideas in their head even it's not true ^^ Just look at the forums for posts about what buffer should they play/box, people just say it's WC without even taking into consideration about the situation posted by the OP... seriously like ppl even suggest a WC for a nuker lol.

Now, before you say "well, PPs are still useful in small groups" I don't even remember saying that XD where did I say that seriously? o: Plus, you're only "assuming" that small groups tend not to need a recharger; which makes it false also.

I've done small groups before just me as the buffer and healer (that's right, no vr and it was before the mana steal passive and elixirs), and the DDs are not archers nor nukers. I was able to hold up buffs and heals until people needed to go (that party lasted for like 2+ hours without breaks)

Just because people think it's not possible or just simply don't know how to do so, doesn't make it impossible. Come on, even people can do the seed with only OL+SE buffs with DDs using gsap and completed it in under 10mins. Anyhow, the OP got a SE which makes it a lot easier for him/herself.

WC used to be better coz of the extra mdef in CoV, but since they basically make all prophecies the same; it's no longer true that WC is better than PP. PP is not perfect and can use some fixing, but most people already plvl'd all those WC from before due to CoV so they are just simply sticking with it. Plus most of the WC are boxed, boxing a WC is definiately a lot more convenient than boxing a PP no doubt.

To the last question, it's too easy to answer :D A well played PP can make the life/death difference in a group in extreme conditions. For a well played WC, you can only watch and pray (and probably do something minimum) for the best to happen ;)
3 Man party you call it but just you with 3 accts? How is this a 3 man party i'm lost becuase i can understand you guys having 2 accts and then the 1 acct as a afk shop adding to giran lagg. But 3 accts active at 1 time and just 1 person playing sounds like botting to me. So please be kind enough to explain cuz I'm confused on how this isn't botting.
it is botting, as also botting is when people play 2 accounts as well, buff themselves etc.
It's the product of almost dead servers.

Ahh thanks and naw it's the product of people who would rather play a MMORPG by themselves instead of how the game is designed.
Botting is not the same as multi-boxing.

Multi-Boxing is running more than 1 client at a time. Boxing is perfectly fine

Botting is using a third party program (a bot) to play the game or part of the game for you. Botting is against EULA

Many people think boxing should be against EULA, but it is not, saying anything else is simply a lie.

Sry mcBuff, no matter how good your arguments are, there is no way I'm gonna start boxing my PP again, unless its an archer. I ain't spending minutes buffing when it can be done in almost no time at all.

I love my PP but I have been itching to make a WC since all end game groups want them for pvp and raids. Orcs give essential buffs very quickly, plus a few specialities, but they are missing some good ones like holy wep, selective greater might/shield, and resists. They seem to be only good for small parties. I just wish they gave PPs some more to make them more useful/important for groups.

I haven't seen a single group that takes WC buffs only. A PP is always needed (blah blah but I want to be in party, well DC get kicked after buffing COV so you're both in same boat).
ALL the pvp and raid parties I've been in have been looking for DC. Not once have I seen shoults looking for PP. The exception is when they need mystic immunity to solo a boss below their lvl. Maybe since pvp lasts only a few short minutes they dont worry too much about resists. Tho I think OE mental shield and elemental proctection from PP could go a long way.

But on topic, I think PP/SE duo may be better than WC/SE duo because of the resists and because u can throw a few emergency heals if the situation gets crazy. PP dont seem to vr mana like orcs but if the party is small, PP should do nicely.
Why not WC+EE, or WC+Bishop. You get essential buffs and good heals.

I myself box wc+ee and so far its working really good.
Sry mcBuff, no matter how good your arguments are, there is no way I'm gonna start boxing my PP again, unless its an archer. I ain't spending minutes buffing when it can be done in almost no time at all.

That's why I said a boxed wc is more convenient than boxed pp no doubt, but it doesn't make wc buffs better. They are still the same haste 2, greater shield/might, focus, dw etc... You just get more downtime for buffing with a boxed pp, but there is no downtime if it's a live pp who knows what he/she is doing.

I finished lvling my wc and boxing my pp to get exp now, I don't have any downtime when I buff anyway. As long as you know how to setup the best possible macro.

I've seen that the Asian servers likes the combo of pp+se as buffers (especially after stigma was introduced), and also they prefer to help each other rather than pvp each other.

If the OP already got a PP and SE, I wouldn't suggest him use his time trying to lvl a WC. Those time used to level the wc can already cover up the total downtime of buffing with the pp in his game time. Seriously, if you're playing let's say 2 hours a day; ~10 mins downtime is really going to kill you? If you think it does, maybe you need professional help rather than a WC :p

Why not WC+EE, or WC+Bishop. You get essential buffs and good heals.

I myself box wc+ee and so far its working really good.

Yea, in the Asian servers the buffer setup are mostly either PP+SE or WC+EE; but since most ppl in NA servers already ditched their SE quite a while ago, people are simply sticking with what they lvl'd from before.

I can't wait till SE gets 4 skills from bishop/ee in Gracia+ though :3
If the OP has more than 1 computer though, and he can actively assist with the buffer, he should go WC instead of PP, more firepower out of the orc.

Yea Gracia+ is gonna be odd for me, seeing as how I subbed my at the time worthless SE into a 78 Doomcryer. And now they go and make the SE the best one....
Seriously... 2 wolves and a TH, u really need more firepower than that? lol. Also it seems that the OP is quite new to the game, trying to gear all of them up adequately to melee will not be the easiest thing for him to do.

Even without the TH damage; when the 2 wolves hit 55, they already can chew down most of the things in that lvl range. Having more firepower to assist with a wc is misleading since he doesn't really need that extra firepower anyway.
I tried to follow the logic of you reasoning and got lost ><.

here's an explanation for you.
To play a MMO and box 2 accounts is just sad. MMO is by definition a Massive Multiplayer, not Boxing Multiplayer.
It's much better when ppl plau one account live and stick with that. Of course, in order to do that, you need other people in your lvl range, which ain't gonna happen since most people are in S grade and there aren't many left anyway.

So people do have to box if they want to lvl up quicker, which they shouldn't really have to do.

Is that clear enough for you or do I need to go even further trying to explain a basic concept which seems to be very hard to figure out on your own ?

In the first post you equated boxing a second account to botting. Do I have to explain to you the basic concept of multiboxing? Seems you have trouble figuring out the difference between boxing and botting.

Your second post doesnt seem to have much to do with your first one, which is the one I replied to.

Nice try at belittling me though, could have worked if I had half a brain I guess.

(Why do I get this feeling someone is gonna quote that in their sig?)

I have only ever had one account and while that used to be true things are a bit more even keel now with the new Pets.

With my Birdie my Sorceror does just fine. Particularly if I grind in an area that drops pots. I can pretty much go on idefinately.

I even killed a Bot last nigh in WOA that was just a single Nuker with a Bird.
Oh and if the OP wants a really nice 2 man party with wolves, go WC+OL. Pop on the "toggles" and go to town on the mobs. OL tanks ofc :D

i'll tell you now if you continue to play a Bh and a WS you will either end up quitting or boxing
it's all well and good to say this is an "mmorg and we should all grab a party and go kill some mobs together" but those 2 classes won't be seeing jack in the way of parties at high lvls

Smittie, you already had all the buffer you needed when you level the WC and OL, so it is easier for you. The OP will need to level the wc+ol till 68+ to finally get the max buffs where a 56 pp+se will do for the OP.

3 entirely subjective points. I happen disagree on all 3.
You're trying to push them across as facts though, which they aren't.

The party will still be strong at lower lvls, and if you choose the right spots having low lvl vr wont hurt you much (not to mention you have vr4 until u turn 63).

Why cripple endgame (and not to mention the way lower dps of SE/PP compared to 2 orc mystics with soulcry), just so you can have buffs earlier, and you dont really need those buffs that early.

I understand you love your prophet and want to have more ppl play it, but lets not blow smoke up ppls behinds here.

lol I'm not blowing smoke up ppls behind here and the OP's endgame won't be crippled even with PP and SE (plus I already explained in previous post why people was prefering WC before, but it's no longer the case now); since most Asians are still using PP and SE as the buffers, are their endgame crippled? Seems not.

It's more 'affordable' for the OP to simply utilize the wolves as DD rather than including the orcs to melee, coz the PP and SE can wear karmian or divine or even devotion set until the OP can afford better gears.

The wolves don't get vr4 until someone can buff it vr4 btw ;p Also, the OP can hunt in areas that requires Purify; as well as when the SE hits 76 in Gracia+ (4 skills from bishop/ee); he can also hunt in areas with stun mobs. PP+SE gives the OP a broader range of option where he can hunt now and in the future compared to just WC+OL.

Add: Also why do you need the OL to tank and WC to melee with the wolves assisting; when Stigma (100% land rate without needing a weapon) allows the wolves to do more damage, and extremely cheap to operate with a pp+se?
2 buffers +1 melee and 1 wolf on the melee, the wolf will power lvl u all once it hits 55, u can avoid areas that need purify if u chose buffers that dont have it.
My suggestion was for a duo with 2 wolves. They wouldnt need a DD actually. And they would have two very nice buffers in the end.

Thanks for your help

i'll tell you now if you continue to play a Bh and a WS you will either end up quitting or boxing
it's all well and good to say this is an "mmorg and we should all grab a party and go kill some mobs together" but those 2 classes won't be seeing jack in the way of parties at high lvls

Guesse those that don't pick a WS or a BH for a party at high lvls don't drink BEER. Cuz they will always get a party with me when i hit high lvls . Now it's safe to say no Dwarfs will waste thier time with any of your toons becuase with that attitude why would they want to party with you?

The mob will already be dead at this point.

Great, so if I roll a new dwarf right now, we could be sipping beer on the port spot for hellbound in about 6 years?
roleplay has always been the solution to lack of parties TBH

Probably less than 6 yrs if i play more than i have been now , but i'm supposed to go to Afghanistan in 2011 so we better hurry.

Have to agree, based on similar personal experience.

I played a warlock (with kai) and SE with Great wolf together from level 63 - 72 on one laptop just switching between screens.

If you make sufficient macros on the second account, it is very easy just to flick screens and go back and forth.

For those levels I did ToI only, starting on the 4th to the 9th. At around the late 60s to early 70s, I could keep 2/3 of ToI 5 center clear as just a duo, to give an idea of the power of the combo. And I did toi because it was alway vacant, I could log on, be setup and xp within 30sec for as long as i liked without interruption any day. No down time, no looking for xp spots on a shot log in span equals more xp over time, than seeking a higher xp area and having to compete or search for a spot.

Two wolves would be great.
Oh and the other point I was going to get to was that whilst ppl avoid places that can para or stun frequently, I found that with 2 solid dds, it was rare to cause any real problems, except when I pulled more than about 6-8 4x mobs

I did toi 5 on 2 or 3 birthday buffs this year. I used WC+EE to buff though, and lvled a wolf with the bday. It's more exciting when there is a chance to get paralyzed and no way to cure it :D

I remember you do sound absolutely excited in vent when you get pz'd there :D
If its not both you cant die though lol. I've moved on to AL now that my wolf is 79. Thankfully there are Limal Kariness down there that also anchor me :D
