New to Lineage 2 (kinda)

Hello everyone! I recently re-purchased Lineage 2 (since I lost my old CD's and have forgotten my old AC info...coughFAILcough...). I was wondering if there was a certain realm I should be choosing in order to avoid a ghost town server. I am basically into everything RP PvP PvE w/e it's all fun to me. I'm currently downloading the game and can't wait to make my new character since I havn't played since at least 2006. Hope to see you all in game! Hopefully not as a red though, and if I do please spare me! :D
Low level reds are pretty rare...

If you are US >>> Phoenix
If you are Euro >>> Teon
Welcome back!

I play on Sayha and I enjoy it a great deal. However, you will hear different opinions from different people. Those who tend to be negative in outlook will condemn one server or another, those who are happy will tend to push their own server.

But the bottom line is that almost no one spends enough time on multiple servers to be able to make any type of valid interserver comparison. That doesn't stop them from making comparisons, of course....they just cannot make VALID ones.
I am also from Sayha and like the current situation. I am very much PvE oriented, so if you are looking for something else you don't want to listen to me.

If you choose Sayha, Peacecore is recruiting...
Awesome sounds like the game is still decently active. I played Aion for a bit but the start up bugs were too much for me to bear. I have completely forgotten pretty much everything there is to know about this game so any start up tips on classes and/or races etc are all welcome. I was thinking about starting off with a Dwarf and going Scav but again I have forgotten how the economy works. XD
I am guessing your experience on any of the servers will be about the same.

Until you hit Dion (Level 20ish) you won't really see anyone aside from the odd bot or the odd person leveling an Academy toon. Most clans will invite you from 1-40, as they will get Clan points for every person that goes through the academy and graduates (IE finishes their 2nd class change).

As for being a Scavenger. All the power to you. Just to let you know, the basic mat drops will still be worth something on any of the servers I know of. Actually the basic mats may have gone up in value on at least a few of the servers, as the bot populations have gone down, and not many people actively play a spoiler toon. As for anything you spoil from NG to A/B ish, you pretty much sell them to an NPC, becuase the market isn't really there anymore. The majority of players are A-S graders. You will find it is alot easier to level then it was in the past. So it shouldnt take you to long to get in a decent level range.

Also most people that complain about the server populations are people wanting PVP. Most servers aside from a handful have a ruling Monarchy. The PVP action and people going red has definatley dropped form a few years ago. Since you are going the way of a dwarf, I don't think that concerns you much, and probably works in your favor, as your chance of being PK'ed for no reason probably has dropped alot.

Welcome back to your old home :)
I will not suggest you to go scavenger, but it is sure up to you. Some like them very much.
But for me they level very slow and do not bring so much extra adena to compensate for a class with almost no skills and pvp/pve power.
Wb there. Game isn't dead but most of the fun is at 76+, unless grinding is fun for u :P Scavy...meh, awfully boring imo :/ totally sux in pve, not to speak about pvp but can bring some money yep, if I was starting L2 now I would never ever go for that as first char :) May be make a dagger or nuker or some support, depends what u like to play. Anyway if u go for a dorf make sure u get a wolf and level it...is good for the pathetic dmg of the dorf ><...sry but it's true :P hf
I'd go Warcryer... needed by many clans, easy to get a party, and not highly gear dependent, and can solo with decent gear.

very true, and with wolf solo ability is easy :)
I'm in Phoenix. I like it :) I think its plenty populated, and a lot to do. That mostly depends on what class you are, and what kind of clan you're in. I'd say go with whatever class you like, in the end you're the one playing it. I personally don't like dwarfs, but then again I'm a class that most people would rather box lol...
Excellent advice from everyone! Its great to hear about the red population going down (though I really never had issues w/ them when I did play). Its also good to hear that you disagree w/ my decision with a Scav since I was only going to roll it for money purposes anyway and a couple of you stated the trade off of the PvE power and the Adena making wasn't that great. I suppose I will go with my original intentions of rolling some kind of support class as those are my favorite rolls to fill. Any suggestions on one that is actually able to solo quiet well? I thought i saw someone mention Warcryer. All imput is welcome. ^_^

EDIT: Curse the client for taking so long to download! Only half way there. I had forgotten as well how HUGE the patches were for this game. I'm itching to start!

Warcryer - Buffer -Easiest to solo, able to buff full parties. Wanted in almost all end game parties, for pvp & pve over SE, and PP. None boxed WC are highly sought after by end game clans.

Prophet - Buffer - Great small party buffer in herb areas, good for archers. Single target buffer. Difficult to solo without a wolf. At 83 get Counter Crit which is one of the best buffs in the game. One of the best olympiad enforcers.

Shillien Elder - Buffer/Healer - All around buffer, only missing haste (which can be bought in a pot). Difficult to solo without a wolf. Can inquisicate mobs... but not best way to level. Has Stigma.. which makes it wanted in a lot of melee parties. Decent heals.

Elven Elder - Healer/Buffer - 2nd best heals in game, more defensive buffer. Wanted in almost all end game parties, for pvp & pve. Can inquisicate mobs... but not best way to level. One of the best olympiad enforcers.

Bishop - Pure Healer - Best healer in the game. Wanted in almost all end game parties, for pvp & pve. Can solo in the rift and make good XP. Can inquisicate mobs... but not best way to level.
Hi! I would go bishop if I were you, because you will get the most parties, and we are the awesomest. See- no one will flame me for the word "awesomest" (except for bs'ers) because they want me in the party.
Thank you Pheonix for the great summaries! I was just curious about one term. When you say "boxed" what exactly does that stand for? Also I will probably be rolling the Warcryer for sure.
U might wanna consider bladedancers/swordsingers too :P A must in end game parties, bd imo easier to lv up and almost always party for them, solo is possible too. Get in an active clan to have more options for exp and even for some newbie help.
Boxed means that someone is playing multiple characters meaning something like Someone plays a gladiator, but also has a boxed WC to buff.

Like they said don't forget about BD/SwS, also OL's are nice. I personally play an SE and love it. OL's are decent buffers and also can solo quite well too. In my opinion don't rely on a class thinking "Oh I'll just get a wolf." because getting a wolf, with the right gear is a lot harder then you'd think.

I personally love BD's though. I think they're fantastic. They're great secondary damage dealers, they have very useful dances, (Mostly melee oriented but they do have a few mystic dances). Although you must be 100% active, and they aren't the best at pvp. SwS are meh imho, but some people think the same of BD's.

WC's are great, but I think they're tons better in end game. CoV for the win. It does take a while to get there of course, and in lower levels there aren't as many parties around as one would like. With a semi support class like a bd/sws you can solo alright with decent gear and still be **** useful in parties.
no no make that scav on phoenix and sell me some bone XD

Although technically a bd/sws is support... they can solo quite well with buffs on their own (i.e. I solo my bd anywhere but HB), but I did completely forget about the OL.

Bladedancer (bd) - Offensive dances that improve the parties kill rate.
Swordsinger (sws) - Defensive songs (except hunter which increase crit rate) that improve the groups survivability.

Both are wanted in end-game parties for both pvp and pve. They don't have quite the power of a true DD

Here... I will break down what an end-game 9 party typically looks like....

DD (dagger class, tyrant, gladiator, destroyer)
DD
DD
DD, Shillien Elder (Stigma), or Warlock (Queen's Blessing).
Warcryer
Elven Elder
Bishop
Bladedancer
Swordsinger

With the mentality of "I want to kill quickly" in the game, you will constantly see DDs spamming clan/ally chat for hours lf a party, but most support gets swooped up instantly.

I would recommend Warcryer, i just sub-ed one and i love it, you can solo or take a wolf with you and thats all the damage you need, everyone wants an active warcryer in partys, clan. Bishop is pretty slow to level as you will have to sit a lot for mana if you solo. My main is Cardinal 78 and i leveled mostly with the help of friends after 70.
In my opinion bladedancers, sworsingers aren't that easy to level if you don't have a buffer with you and you might want to rush for 76 as everyone is somewhere there.
Hope to see you on Phoenix and welcome :)
My 2 adenas.

First of all think what role you would like to do at end game pvp.
I have seen that you will try to go as support player.
Pros that you will be welcome in most parties. But nobody mentioned cons:
- probably you will not kill single enemy during pvp
- probably you will be first target for enemy daggers and you will die several times during pvp
- for some classes and some places expect to buff/sing/dance and sit down for mana regeneration
- solo pve performance is quite low (ok, there are wolfs and inquisitor transforms)

So think about this.
It is kinda ridiculous that dagger style player plays a bishop.

more than wise ads ....

if you like support and fight SWS or BD could be a good way to play both ...

on my part i just love to support ... then i deleted my SR sub and i'm about deleting the SPS too probably ...

the way you love play will make you good or bad on some classes

choose wisely your class

srsly! Kamaels rock. But the only support Kamael is the 3rd sub so, takes a very long time to get there...

Also Overlord is very good and they can buff any party they are in now (not just clan/ally buffs anymore) so they are decent. One thing about OL: it cannot be subbed (like warsmith, or kamael); you can always sub a WC but no one can sub OL. They also have almost all buffs now, they only miss haste and VR really (both drop as herbs from mobs tho) and like WC if you melee you have 100% mp all the time now so leveling should be fast even solo. But OL may still have prob getting parties tho.
Just a little warning, WC's are the best but you will have a hard time finding parties until lvl 78, after that you will be begged to party. I spent ALOT of time solo with my wolf to get to 78, at 78 all you have to say is 'who wants COV in party?' and within seconds you will be picked up. But they are alot of fun to play and you can solo with one without any problems....well until about S grade then you have to have a wolf.
Support classes are for special people. If you like some mindless grinding, fast, but mindless, don't pick one of us. If you want to be some PvP master, think long and hard about picking one of us, because frankly we're not the best at PvP. I know, I know, we have Inquisitor, and I know, every healer/buffer has a story about a triumphant PvP match, but to be honest, if you like PvP-ing, don't be one of us. Support classes need to work hard, be active, and be okay with playing second fiddle when it comes to PvP.

Yes support classes are absolutely necessary to pvp, even if they do not do the killing with their own hands. You just have to be ok not to be the one getting the pvp points.
