How to improve L2 performence - vs comp config

General Discussion Started Last reply 31 posts
What part of the computer should I change to have a better L2 performence?
Current config:
Win XP
Processor: Intel Core Duo - 2,4
nVidia GeForce 8600
3 Giga RAM

Is the engine of Lineage 2 going to be changes? If yes, on what engine, and when? Should I wait till this day and then amend the Graf/Processor??
l2 main factor is the processor or video card you run your good on ram since you dont say if you have 32 bit or 64 bit windows im assume your running 32 bit and cant get higher then 3gb of ram anyways 3.25 if im correct.
erm...

Personally,

a little bit of everything including the OS would see a significant improvement.

While the core 2 duo "will do"... the Quad gives a nice boost.

An ATI Radeon 5770 or 5850 would really do the trick (this would be my number 1 suggestion)

3gb "will do" but 4gb+ is gravy.

WINDOWS 7 64BIT would be my 2nd top suggestion.

it's 32 bit
your system is fine

windows 7 have tons of problems running l2

processor and video card are best bet if he does not want to change his os

update your drivers...

------
new video card is really the only thing you should get...hopefully your mobo handles PCI-E 2.0; this way you can eventually upgrade the entire system and just carry over the video card.

Update your game client from keyboard to auto?
windows 7 have tons of problems running l2Yeah... no.

Except for that stupid GG error when W7 first launched (which was NCsoft's fault because their version of GG was not up to date at all), Windows 7 has no issues with Lineage 2.

Again, wrong.

your dumb
your dumbFirst of all, it's "you're".

Second, I'm running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium right now. And yes, Lineage 2 is in windowed mode. Makes it easier to fiddle around with Hulu on my second monitor.

Little bit ashamed your location says 'Minnesota'.

ummm yeah 64 bit is key then wouldn't it be, yourrrrrreeee trying to compare 32 to 64
ummm yeah 64 bit is key then wouldn't it be, yourrrrrreeee trying to compare 32 to 64First, you never specified -- you just said Windows 7. Second, L2 isn't a 64-bit program so it runs as 32-bit either way. Plus, I ran L2 under W7 x86 during the W7 beta just fine, and I think it's safe to assume they didn't break L2 after the release of W7.

I could be wrong. But then again getting 32-bit Windows 7 is a stupid mistake anyway.
windows 7 can not run l2 in windows mode

so far everything you've stated is 100% infactual and without value.

Of course there are "machines" with win7 that have issues, 99% of which are related to hardware issues, programing issues and so forth that have ZERO relation to that of win7 itself OR lineageII...
I'm pretty sure Lineage 2 isn't multithreaded. So that would make little to no difference.

Actually LineageII is multi-threaded... initially when the game came out with Intel Hyper threading support, considering it DOES use this feature almost emediately, though the CPU's were at that time a single core cpu.

When AMD's x2 arrived, the HT fuction had to be disabled or program "differently" due to the x2's being true dual cpu setups, (this caused pretty horrific timing issues in l2).

Later with major patches and siginificant upgrades to the engine itself, Dual core support was added, and provided that you had a OS better capable of handling multithreading, it is expanded to cross a significant number of cores/threads.

Typically it'll load 2x cores evenly.

What MOST people seems to completely ignore or omit, is that even with 2 other cores "expected to be doing nothing" the services, programs and other highly critical tasks are off loaded from the cores that L2 is currently using and places eveningly on the other 2 cores. This is why a QUAD core will show sometimes minute and sometimes significant gains over a dual core. Even a very slow 2.4ghz quad core will run circles around a 3.6ghz dual core.

Throw in Intel i7 WITH windows 7 and your 4x cores + 4 HT makes things a breeze. But don't get to comfortable as L2 can still peg the i7, even though it's not pegging all the cores.

So i'll state again.

Todays standards, Quad core CPU is something to have, and any chance to get any more cores will always prove to be suprerior to that of a cpu with less. While perhaps not EMEDIATELY, but long term, the cpu with more cores always wins and continues to perform adequately for more years.

Any gamer i've setup with a quady has yet to have an issue playing or doing tasks, meanwhile the el-cheapo players who stuck with what was orginal claimed the faster "dual" cores are suffering so much, they can't cut it anymore.

white screens dude you know nothing
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on my laptop and it plays L2 better then my main system that runs it on XP. I only have 2 gigs ram and ATI 1400 Laptop version and I have all the graphics turn up and I can run 2 accounts in or out of window mode with no problems or lag. O and it's a core 2 duo at 2.0 ghz. 7200 Hard drive thou and not 5400.

And it's a Dell :p
white screens dude you know nothing

claim your white screens all you want..

whom knows nothing, considering the swath of machines i've worked with from all eras that were at one point capatible with l2 and then later fell out of favor as the expansion increased. all the way to the highend new machines to today.

I've been playing Lineage II on windows 7 since May 2009. I've been using windows 7 on several computers since September of 2008.

I've seen how windows 7 crashes, i know how things generally disagree and agree with it.

ANY problem i've witnessed related to L2 and Win7 has only ever been hardware related in most cases, or in the rare cases, software conflicts.

Number one issues are usually firewalls/anti-virus that can play havoc. Gameguard is your worst enemy between the 2.

So while you continue to make the blanket claims of windows 7 "l2 doesn't work in window, doesn't work at all, etc. and so forth" are 100% inaccurate. Any issue your likely running into are 90% of the time, the opperators fault.
oh am i? im pretty sure you made the ******ed post.

oh sorry.. i see how it is...

I guess everyone on these boards can easily make the determination that anything you post from this point foward based on your posts previous of this one has never had anything positive to state, therefore is just a waste text and thread room.

Excellent.

Thank you!
Buy new comp lol

yeah i pretty much suggested that
Actually LineageII is multi-threaded...Huh, so it is. When did that happen?
First, Memory
Second, video Card
Third, Hard Drive Speeds/thruput.
The biggest single upgrade for me was putting my Hard disks on Raid 10. This is after my Video Card was upgraded to a nice NVidia display and I made sure the computer had plenty of memory.

ymmv
Yeah, I'm running L2 on my laptop in window mode with Windows 7 32-bit 3 GB DDR2, Intel Core Duo T2600, and Intel GMA950. Runs pretty horrible, but hell it works.
The biggest single upgrade for me was putting my Hard disks on Raid 10.I used to run RAID 0, but then one of my drives went all corrupted and... yeah. Not doing that again.

might as well just upgrade to a new computer. why downgrade so you have capatibility with the old mobo?
