Elf Classes Started Last reply 29 posts
I just started last night and am wondering what kind of armor i should be looking to get at level 20 for an elven knight? Right now he isn't wearing any armor at all. I have 172k Adena saved up , and I will be going Swordsinger if that makes any difference.

Weapon he is using is the Shadowed 2h sword. Is it best to just stick with that?

How exactly do Soulshots work? I know you click on them and they add damage to your weapon but i dont see any kind of buff icon. How long do they last? Does their effect stack if you use more than one? I've seen players selling soulshots but they only seem to sell A and C grade , where do i find D grade ones?

For skills i bought the heal and the weapon and armor masteries. Are any of the others worth getting like power shot or the auras? Do you only get so many skill points to spend or at some point can you just have everything trained?
Soulshots increase damage per-hit. For example, hot key them, right-cilck to toggle them, and then every single time you hit something a soulshot will be consumed.

You have 172k adena saved up, so I suggest keep saving and avoid soulshots for now ~

Either that or pimp yourself out (works best if female char).
1. welcome to Lineage2. focus on your weapon first, armor will come later.

2. if you want to take advantage of your shield passive skills later on, grab a shield. however the faster levelling for you will be single sword. it has quick attack speed, and good crit ability. try and stay away from blunt weapons, and daggers CAN be your friend at later levels, depending how you play.

3. once used, your next attack does increased damage. for 1 attack (that lands). D grade ones are also sold by players, as are all grades of shot. just do a shout, a player will be able to accomodate you in a reasonable timeframe.

4. at high levels you'll have everything trained no problem. just keep spending your SP on the skills you consistently use, MAKE SURE you buy your songs first when you get to those levels. none of the skills you use for levels 1-40 will be used once you get to Swordsinger, with probably 1 exception; Ultimate Defence. and that, only very seldom.

Buy a weapon from vendor or from players?

By single sword do you mean a 2h sword or just a long sword without a shield in offhand?
Also to provide you with the best possible help we need to know your character name and which server you play on so we can pay you a courtesy visit with a free greeting package.
My character's name is Daiko and he is on Pheonix server. :)
I bought a common Elven long sword and common plate shield. It was all i could afford. Any suggestions on the best place for me to level at 20?
Welcome to l2. Ive setn you a private message take a look at your user CP.

At lvl 20 you must do your first quest to change class, you can start it a gludin or gludio depending on the class. Find the Elf npc at the warrior guilds on those towns.

After that go to priest of dawn and subscribe for seven signs. You will need it to enter Necropolis of Sacrifice where you can get easy xp till lvl 30.

If you still dont have a commom plate armor better avoid NoS and keep on any place where herbs drops. Outside dion is a good area with very easy mobs.
Whats the best pet for a Swordsinger?

I have the wolf pet but he dies constantly and doesn't keep up in levels. Costs me a lot to keep resurecting him.
wolf is, problem is gear after 55.

The hint to lvl it is, go inside catacombs and let him at corridors, so he will not take aggro so easy. Else avoid areas with aggro mobs, and use your agression skill constantly before engaging mob. Oh kamalokas helps a lot too. Just let him far from the mobs, if he dies uses blessed scrolls that you can buy at priest of dawn else each death will mean more time till he get usefull or at least some 20% ress from someone in town.

I would suggest avoiding pets for now (edit: for good - better to invest money in your char's equipment and get into groups - pets also take a lot of XP when they're higher lvl and a sws doesn't really need one).

Focus on all common items (good choice with the elven long sword - for C grade get common Samurai longsword, only 330k or so from Giran stores) and level in areas with herbs or in catacombs/necropolises(more for groups) to make money (you make a profit just from the seal stones which can be turned to ancient adena -AA- and sold at a good price).

Once you get to a useful level for parties (49 you get Song of Hunter, 55 Song of Earth), you should be looking for an active clan. Swordsingers are unfortunately not very common but they are very useful in parties both PvE and PvP. Try to find a clan at least lvl 5-6, as active as possible (assuming you are as well). Partying will improve your gaming experience 100 times over (not to mention your class is not very strong at solo-ing, though you can do OK in herb areas).

A wolf is a great pet for Swordsinger. You'll have to think of ways to keep it alive. Use aggression on monsters or leave your pet in a safe area near you. If all else fails, don't summon it until you have enough adena to feed and resurrect it. You'll thank yourself for having a wolf at higher levels. It's a great damage dealer at level 55 and higher. Do as many quests as possible to help with the adena problem.

Try to find a clan that's willing to help you get clan armor. There's a quest involved that starts in Gludio. A clan member can help you with that.

By the way, did you do your class change quest?
hihi

as others have said find urself a clan they can give u all the info u need - personally id pick based on the toons u see in a town like dion - not the ones selling the ppl moving about doing stuff :-)

sign to catas - go to the priest of dawn and click through all the that ends up with u participating ^^ at 20 (if u do that) try necropolis of sacrifice - (if u dont) try orc barracks u get there from gludin town.

If u want a pet ignore opinions lvling it is easy if u do it at the same rate u lvl.

Kamalokas are instance zones like mini raid bosses and a blessing for a melee toon especially and 0-40 a must do - u have to be within 5 lvls the 23 and 26 u can do once a day in gludio just shout a bit for a person to go in with :-)

hope that helps some
i said sh1z how does that get deleted ><
The reason I advise against a wolf is because great wolves eat about 40% of your exp and you end up spending a lot of money investing in its equipment instead of your own weapon. They are great for soloing but sws isn't meant for soloing and the sooner you get to higher levels and into lots of parties, the better. Also, if you party a lot, it will end up lagging behind in levels (assuming you don't keep it out in parties since you will be at a significant disadvantage exp-wise and adena-loss wise).
Ignore anyone who tells you that pets are a bad idea. From personal experience, a wolf was a great investment. I had no problems solo'ing or finding a party with one. I've also gained alot of levels extremely fast while using a wolf. And if you find yourself at a position in which you think that you won't use it anymore, it will sell fast and for alot of adena. Especially at Levels 55+. So if you're going to name it, give it a name that everybody would want or not name it at all.

Yes i changed to elven knight at 20.

I am 29 now and my wolf is only 21. Although i'm sure it would be nice to have him at higher levels i think i am just gonna let him go. He is not going to catch up now and costs alot to have. I wanted to throw him on another character but it seems you cannot mail a pet. :(

I haven't tried to join a clan yet. Usually i join one based on people i group with. I have yet to get a group though, for that matter i haven't even had anyone talk to me on the server. The only interaction i've had at all is getting killed by someone yesterday. :p

I haven't tried the priest of dawn thing. From what i read it sounded like a PvP event type thing. With my poor equipment i figure i wouldn't stand a chance. I have just been trying to find white mobs to grind, that drop herbs.

If the pet has gear/items on it, and you unsummon it, those items stay on it. If the pet has things still on it, you cannot trade/mail/sell etc. You have to summon it, pick off the items and then unsummon it to be able to mail it to your other toon.

Best toon for lvling a wolf is a buffer class, preferably WC or SE.

This being your first char, I'm not so sure its a good idea to lvl the wolf with it, especially since you have absolutely no way of buffing it.

Skip the wolf for the sws is my tip, and maybe make an orc mystic if you wanna lvl up the wolf.

The reason you havent run into alot of ppl is the game's age. Its been around for a long time, and most ppl are high lvl now. But dont worry, when you hit 40+ you get into same range as their subs :D

i leved my sws with a wolf, with the cheapest gear from the shop... it helped me gain levels, as whenever i didnt have a party, i could go out there and 'solo' with it, when with the gimp patck of a sws it'd been impossible to stay in a big cata room.. and then, when the wolf was 75 (i was 77) i traded it for a full IC set (which i didnt have the money for)... so overall, i'd say it was a good investment :P
Just remember that if you play male elf character you're risking the possibility to be still the most femine char in your party.
With the exception of dwarf females all other chars (male/female) are more manly than your elven "macho".

Yes i wasn't too happy that the male elves all look like women. They have the class i like the best though.

Does this game have any helmet graphics at all?
No, but you can get useless hats that do nothing but look funky.
at 76 / 3rd class change a tank class can get a circlet that looks pretty cool imo. for sws there is a bard circlet, but depending on personal taste you may not like how that one looks.
For leveling your wolf (if you still have it) I would suggest using a War Lord. War Lords are great for lvling pets and they do not need healers to come along so long as you kill the 1/2x hp mob groups. I have been lvling a hatchling for a strider for the last few weeks (only about an hour or 2 a day) and I should have my strider tomoro and with the wolf that I am also lvling, it gets about 5-10% per pull but it is only lvl 25 and my WL is 53.

Welcome to Lineage 2 :)
I really like having a wolf as an SwS, they have the highest base crit. rate of the pets so get a lot of extra damage when you get song of hunter at 49 (our best song). Also beast soul shot is much cheaper then the higher level shots (and the wolf never uses more than two) so their cost per damage is low.

Make sure to use aggression on every mob before you and your wolf attack, it is a fast cast and 0mp. It will also help you get very used to looking for agro mobs near you as they sneak up and kill the baby wolf. ;)

The wolf gets much stronger at 55+ but they start stealing more xp then too (from 10% to 35%).

Edit: The wolf doesn't help you very much as a Warlord, it is just a xp leech, but you do level it (and yourself lol) fast.
I got a question about these Kama instances. It sez the level range is 5 levels. Is that 5 higher and lower? Also it sez you can do 1 per day. Does this mean 1 period or 1 of that level type? In other words could you do the level 33 Kama then do the level 36 Kama so long as you are in both level ranges?
5 level range means +/- 5 levels, so the level 46 (example) can be done by characters level 41 to 51.

you can do a kamaloka raid only once per day per character. so if you want to do all of them, you will need a bunch of characters of all different levels. you cant do more than 1 kamaloka raid on one character per day. so no, you cannot do the 33, then 36. you may do ONE of them, and you have to change characters to do another one.
/instancezone

I think the reuse is actually less than 24h
wolves are reallly nice I had one (22lvl wolf) with my lvl 27 alt dwarf with top D comon stuff and he does about 50% of my dwarfs damage at the moment so I can also say that he boost the leveling by a great deal as well^^..so not just a exp leech under these circumstances....

Oh, and they're just so cute you can't help wanting to hug them^^
