Stripped

anyone else's account stripped recently, trying to see if its a trend of some kind, mine got owned last week. very dissappointing, taken almost 7 days and ncsoft has given me no resolve.
yeah, lots of peopler were caught with haxed skills so they all got skills removed, and then there was a big crack in the ebay market, and tons of people got their gear taken away.
Nope, I keep my account information to myself.

That's what happens when your careless with your account info. Just an FYI, most your going to get as a replacement is Common Gear.
Stripped?

You mean you lost your gear or you lost enchant skills or whatever?
i guess it's better than being banned.
you should be happy, and grind back..

easy to make money nowadays with the cost of AA so high...
you can grind up in catas and sell yer loot.
Nope, I keep my account information to myself.

What Jay said ...
I was hacked as well (no I dont share my info) at the end of the day NC soft replaced my s80 gear weapons and epics with a grade common. Even though it was shown the the hacking was no fault of mine, they dont care... AT ALL. I emailed supervisors, VP's etc I stopped just short of the president of the company and was ignored completly. I finally was told to shut up, I was not getting anything more than A grade common, and if I didnt like it to quit. So now Im leaving and Im going to give my money to someone else who at least pretends that they care. Darn NC soft ... they have NO IDEA what customer service, quality or how to run a business. They stop at game development and think thats enough which is why they will always be behind superpowers like blizzard that actually know how to treat a customer.
3rd party program users usualy got hacked too.
lol, no use of third party programs and no one has my account info, and i dont ebay.

im legit, i make my own money with a dwarf playing the market, its not the end of the world. just wondering if it had been happening to anyone else.

i had previously had my aion account hacked and banned because of gold spamming or something of that sort. im assuming this issue is relating back to that.
sure..:)
just curious, did you recently change your password?
because i'm convinced the Spams about changing your password is just a scam to lure people into giving out their account info to the staff at L2 so they can sell the gear and adena to make up for the lack of paid accounts in game...
I have yet to meet anyone in game who was actually hacked/stripped in the 5+ years I have been playing. Doesn't mean you were ever using 3rd party software, but you were careless or wreckless, or shared your info at one point or another with your information.
yea i really think it relates back to my aion account. its under the same master account and a month ago it was hacked and the account was banned. my master account was hacked aswell. i was returned my master account and changed my pw, but maybe the same person figured out lineage 2. heh

anyway just wanted to see if there was any kind of mass **** or if im just unfortunate. random things happens like that sometimes.

gona reformat

thanks for the info, peace

You understand that high-ranking staff have no need to bother with any scam whatsoever to take your stuff or to make whatever they want.

Whatever you are on man, you need to stop.
I'm pretty sure Fidgit was being sarcastic/silly :P

Yes, it is a trend as we have seen a number of these sort of posts here lately. A friend is in the middle of the same issue and working with NCSoft now on getting something back.

First pass from them was A Grade common stuff for the S80 that was lost.
This bothers me a great deal.
They have the proof of what happened and their solution is to say the least, awful.
If they have a true ****, if they have proof of what was owned before, and if there is no pin point about there being a scam, the user should be returned exactly what he or she lost.

I am not sure about the thought of what is going on here by NcSoft, but to go to common A grade is quite a slap in the face by them. They could at least go to top S grade and some Adena if the systems in place prohibit the creation and movement by NcSoft support staff of items for some reason.

Good luck on your toon, practice safe computing and hope you stay in the game ...
NCSoft probably does have the proof of what happened, but they cannot discuss it on the boards. It almost certainly is NOT a true ****, but rather player caused. For example, if someone bought an account (against the EULA) and then didn't change the passwords (lots of idiots out there) then the prior owner could log in and strip the account. The buyer (who is a cheater) would cry "HACKED, gimmie new gear!"

I think NCSoft is quite generous giving that person common A and letting them keep playing.

They are generous IF your possible senario is true..

but assuming that isn't exactly brilliant either.
Gee I hope this doesn't happen to me. Then again I have nothing anyone would want on any of my toons. Most of them are still in CI C grade. XD
Good luck on getting your stuff back.
its proved again .. a toon was hacked before and stripped ... couple days later some1 was shouting the stuff ( true or not, nobody knows ) that other guy lost, they temp ban the hacked toon for investigate.

couple days later, hacked toon back ingame fully geared with his own armor/weapon.

a month ago a friend got hacked .. and NCSoft just gave him common S duals, couple S grade armor and the rest u dont want to know.
theyr explenation .. they couldnt track everything where it went ... imho ... bs :(

its getting more and more clear that they work with 2 weights in the game ....
the sad truth about buying an account is that the original owner can get the account back at any given time...
all you need to do is go to the site, and do the forgot password...
you have all the info available such as original charge account, the CD key... email address you originally registered with and more.

so...
moral of the story is...
don't buy an account...
The concern I have about getting hacked is that this very forum requires us to log in with out game account info. It send the username and password, unencrypted, to the server when you log in.

The scammers don't even need a keylogger/trojan on your system, they just need to camp the forum traffic...
Actually, when the ID and Password are sent, they are encryped.

Just look at the URL when you click on the Log In buttong when you sign into the Forum. It switched. Once the information is verified and bounce you to forum, the page would then switch back to http. Your ID and password will not be stolen unless you have a keylogger.
Just look at the URL when you click on the Log In buttong when you sign into the Forum. It switched.
The link with the URL is not on a protected page. So, a malicious proxy can replace the URL with its own, then capture the username and password and then maybe redirect the login request to the correct URL.
But then one still has to access the fake url to enter the info in order for the ID and password to be captured, then redirected back to the correct url like the forum.
It's still doable if the attacker can gain the control over your uplink.

You may call me paranoid, but I click through the empty password form, get the "wrong pasword" form (which is provided via https) and only then fill in my password.

That is pretty paranoid. Then again.. I have my home network setup for MAC filtering.

That's not a bad idea!

Are you really paranoid when everyone really is out to get you, because in this case.... they are.

This was well said.

Are these "stripped" accounts truly hacked or simply the earlier account owners coming back to cause trouble or get stuff for their other toons?

There has been hacking of course. But often (not always--'often'), the simple answer is the correct one.
It's just as likely that some of these unfortunate folks bought their toons and are having issues now because of that.
Seems that way to me at least.
~D~

Yes.

But in this case, it is justified paranoia.

Not to increase your paranoia.. but if someone really wanted.. they could also fake that.

If people can clone e-banking authentication forms/security.. why the hell would they have problems with a simple game?
When I got hacked 2 years ago it took them lil over 3 weeks to resolve it, and when they did I got a PARTIAL restore, mostly really only the armor and weps my chars were wearing, no jewels, no enchantments no stored gear from WHs etc.

I've known other people who since have recieved full restores of stolen gear... Be sure to change your info often... and dont make it EASY passwords.... and be persistant w/ your support ticket.

And dont share your info with anyone...
Or buy adena or power leveling service. People on Aion got their cc stolen after buying currency or account stripped a month after they got power leveling.
Just to ask, why do you assume that in 80%(or more) of the cases with stripping, the victim was botter/e-buyer/pwrlvl-er...etc?
There are MILIONS of programs that can figure out your password, and as it is easier if one did the afore-mentioned things, you can't simply say "Oh, ur acc was strippd?Though luck m8,next time dont cheat!".
There really are people who are stupid enough to share info/cheat etc. but a handful of people did not, yet they still got hacked.
No, but if I did get hacked, I guess I can pull an Obama & say:

Its all Bush's fault. lol

In 2007 Gicobbe's (strongest Glad in NA) account was HACKED. After about a week of investigation it was determined that he had never used 3rd party, and never account shared. ALL of his gear was replaced including +7 S Dualz, 4/5 epics, +4/+5 IC Set (remember this was 08 and that was uber gear). The only "item" NC did not replace was his weap aug.

So there is one example for you, ask your oldschool NOVA members (the ones originally from Bartz), they will verify it.
I didn't interpret responses to say "it's NEVER happened".

I think it's more accurate to say that most are responding that it is 'more likely' that accounts who lose gear were sharing information or had contact with nefarious sites or had purchased the toon in the first place.

I'm sure there have been some that have been hacked from out of the blue. I don't have any sense it happens very often though.

...

Ok so almost 5 years from buying and installing the game, "where is my CD key".. I keep reasonably good records, but that one even evades me...

I hope I never have to prove ownership of my accounts - I would have *hoped* that paying consistently from the same person for 5 years would be enough proof (name on account is same as name on credit card).

As for being hacked - i think i'm sensible enough not to get a keylogger (most likely way to get caught out).
i had to get my account back once, not because it was hacked or anything...
just because i had quit after beta for a year, then rejoined in the following summer. in hindsight... maybe i should have taken the ridiculous requirements to reacquire my account info as a sign that i should just not play L2...
Ok Heres my story from last few weeks.
My account was hacked.
I posted ticket and GMs after investigation said that everything is ok.
IPs are same on all accounts.
And it didnt look like ****/strip etc.

I lost draco bow due to someone log on my acc and-LOL-oe it and failed -NICE GIG.

Somehow this was made by IT ppl from company that i work.
Although i didnt play from work they got my info - i belive from this forum-login same as game acc.
I dont have to say that i didnt get the items back.
go to work
enchant stuff
complain that you were hacked when it blows

see why NC wouldn't help you?

Did i say i complain ?
Besides theres no way i could play on locked comp L2 lol
Can only browse web and not all youtube/facebook blocked but twitter not pheew :P

End of ends there are many excuses and i wont try to even write it down here.

Happened they couldt help me bought new bow not +8 well but +6 is good too :P
The only people who have ever gotten any account information of mine (Don't mean l2, but anything) are people who I can physically drive down and have a "friendly" "conversation" with.

It's nice that you could afford to replace a +8 drac bow with "Only" a +6...
OE'd Drac Bows are so cheap now, it's kind of sad. Can buy yourself a +7 Drac Bow with 150 Element for 4-~500mil on Phoenix.

/agree on that Hai, if i can't see you to "have a word" , then I don't trust you with my goodies - this follows the rule for loaning real life items to friends, "If you bend it, you mend it"

99.999% of people who claim to have been "hacked" fall into one of the below categories.....

1. They bought their account (or are otherwise not the original acct holder) and someone else logged into the account.

2. They share the account and someone they trusted with the info took items.

3. They were careless with their password. They either chose an easy password such as "lineage2", their clan name, etc. or they use the same password for other games/websites, etc.

4. They fell victim to a virus, keylogger, fishing mail, etc. all of which is the fault of the player, not NC Soft

5. The player is trying to pull a scam on nc soft. They blew up multiple items, skills or whatever and regret their actions. Now they want a free pass.

6. The player is trying to scam their friends/clan. They want more items so they "say" they were hacked. The reality is epics and end-game gear can sell for real life money, and there are players who desire to either cash out of L2, or they have real life financial problems and want to keep playing L2 but can't afford their monthly "fix".

If a player really was "hacked" the first step would be to file a police report. I am not suggesting the police will investigate the crime or take it seriously. At least NC Soft could take the player a little more seriously then knowing the player would risk criminal charges in most countries for filing a false police report.

My God, what is this obsession with thinking real world police give a flying about a game where you DONT own anything. Everything in the game is owned by NCSoft so the police wont care, much less since they have real world crimes to solve, an dnot igve a flying about your pretend world...

WIN - except for the last part, FAIL - Law enforcement does not give a do do about a game account being hacked - now if it was your bank account, credit cards, etc.. then yea they will do a report on it.
To Cabbie and EbonyDragon

At least NC Soft could take the player a little more seriously then knowing the player would risk criminal charges in most countries for filing a false police report. I was exceptionally clear. Re-read the above and then look at your response.

Hacking is a crime, period, whether it is your bank account, your email, or your online game. If your L2 account is hacked a real crime has been committed, one which is punishable in court. The reality is...it is highly unlikely any police agency will do anything with the report, but by making the report it shows you are serious about the "hacking" incident, and are willing to swear under oath that it happened, and risk criminal action against you if you are lying. Police are required to take a report (ofc laws vary but I don't know anywhere this does not apply). The report itself serves no purpose EXCEPT that if NC Soft investigates your report and determines you are lying, they can then contact the police agency and inform them you filed a false police report. IT MAKES SENSE! This process helps separate the scammers from the real victims.

Let's imagine for a moment that we started our own MMORPG. Let's imagine in our fantasy game that we provide 100% perfect account security, the best possible in the world. If we have 10k+ customers it is reasonable that ?1% of our customers would report problems each month. Why? All the reasons described before...account sharing, account purchasing, regrets over blowing up items, the thought of selling items for cash, etc. Some people will report they were hacked out of greed, others out of ignorance from acct sharing, etc and still more because of their own carelessness with usernames/passwords. But it is not nc soft nor anyone else's fault.
a friend of mine got hacked last week, he was fooled by an aion-account pishing mail, all items lost. Wasnt easy for him to get even his stripped account back (took him several days). Ofc NC didnt gave him any items back or ban the one who stole it (that one is still selling his stuff in giran).
So, after nearly two and a half years. I decide to come back to l2.
I unfortunately couldn't log into my master account which is weird because I was still playing City of Heroes so had regular access to it.
Turns out someone hacked my account a few weeks ago and changed my passwords and stripped my L2 characters of everything. I got tired of waiting after a week for NC to respond so I called this afternoon.
I feel sick at what I am missing. It took me nearly four years to build up all the gear and adena I have.
I don't know how they got my information as I don't give it to anyone.
I wonder how long it will take for them to get back to me about getting any of my gear.
One of the things they took was my NAMED Strider. I've had that dragon for four years. From Hatchling up, so if I see it that person is going DOWN!

Dont changing your password has to go passed your Email ?
Why is this thread still going, lol.

yes it does... I am 99.99% sure there is another reason besides "hacked"

There allways is :)

The upswing of phising Emails for Aion and Wow accounts has skyrocketed in the last 2 months.

So with 90% chance the people that got "stripped" entered a invalid Website and logged in there.

The other 10% involves downloading a keylogger, friends and family etc.
