It's not a surprise that NC soft's customer service is at the bottom of the list. Recently I was hacked (and no I dont share my account info) and had all my gear from three different account stolen and sold. I saw my things for sale and pleaded with NC soft to temp. ban the sellers account to prevent my items from being sold. At the end of the day, the thief made off with EVERYTHING and I was left with A grade common gear to replace my full S80/Full Epics/ and 3 diff s80 weapons among other s grade items on other toons. I pleaded with NC soft for a month and at the end of it all I was given the big middle finger and told tough crap. I came back and got most of my things back (with help from friends) but have sense been reading other similar issue on blogs with others from different servers. NC soft will never replace hacked gear if it is sold... Period.
I have read blog after blog email after email about NC soft lack of support for its NA player base. It's painfully obvious from every customer service standpoint immaginable that we as NA, dont mean anything to this company. So in my frustration I recently switched and tried Wow... yes I know its very care bear, HOWEVER.. the customer service is AMAZING. You get hacked, your gear is on your toon before you log in if the find out before you do. Blizzard will call you back if your disconnected, send you emails asking about your experience, it goes on and on.
The shame is NC soft makes great games, but the customer service leave you feeling like a piece of dried crap on the road. My 8 accounts are leaving and Ill be sure to cash out ASAP, NC soft may not miss my business but they wont get it anymore either. After all the stories similar to mine that I have read there wont be a Lineage 2 in the near future. Way to go NC soft ... your customer service sucks and youre killing your own games.
Firstly, before I get flamed, I do somewhat agree with you that the support Lineage II has provided over the years hasn't always been perfect, but then people will say the same for any service provider, including Blizzard.
From their point of view you may have a trojan on your PC which enabled someone to get your passwords. You state that 3 of your accounts were emptied, did you use the same password? If someone "brute forced" your accounts then maybe your password wasn't strong enough. Aside from NCSoft giving your password someone to allow them to get into your accounts, the only other way this could have happened is if someone did know them. The chance of someone being able to get into your account, or guessing your password, without being given it, are zero.
So .. where was I, ah yes, from NC's point of view, it's not their problem. You will find that most profit making companies care about 1 thing. Profit... otherwise, what's the point in operating? With that said, they do what they want in order to provide the service they list out in their Terms of Service (nothing in there about losing items, I don't think) and anything above and beyond that is down to their discretion.
Blizzard may offer an additional service which involves finding the person who took your gear, but at the end of the day we're talking about to different companies here. They can both do as they please.
I hate to say it, but if you love WoW support so much....... OK, I won't say it. :)
u cant use 'brute force anymore"
after few attempts of fail login -u cant log 5min or something..
if i remember correct.
propably u used same password as on other forum or vent or facebook or other forum/ww..
or maybe u had some keyloger/trojan .
but its what i was writed in other thread.
Some ppl got gear back, some ppl have A common gear to replace.
Our clan members got hacked also..some1 was selling stuff...of corse we petition...but was too late (seller set rly rly cheap price)
and u know he had full set s80 like U and epics..and GM's offered him common a grade..(ehehe)
Thx god our members had friend/clan behind him so he can play now with new stuff.
ps
I can even pay like 5 bucks more evry month or pay for some service but i want to be sure if something bad happn to my acc, GM will help me not just skip my petition (replace common a gear is like skipping)
and if i got hacked and some1 change password what i can do -nothing.
After petition in game from other acc or if i ask friend to petition for me..we have answer..pls send 'ticket" to support.
while i sending mail or trying call to NCsoft my gear have new owner....and what i can do if i dont have rich friends in game? quit...few years of playing/paying for game..and bye bye
Work harder on support for players..its what we need.
Looks like a common entry to your accounts was likely. Looks like a 'random' attack was unlikely. What could cause these thieves to target YOU? I am sure that others might come up with different ideas, but things that occur to me, things which might have brought you to the attention of these undesirable folks, might include...
-Use of 3rd party programs (you would have to get them somewhere)
-Real Money Transactions (you would have contact with other rmt ppl, inherently cheaters)
- activities on other non-official boards, where you get viruses
- activities on unsavory websites, where you get viruses
- sharing accounts
- sharing computers
...and so on. What do these have in common? They are YOUR fault, NOT NCSoft's fault. That they gave you anything at all in replacement gear seems to me to be Very Good Customer Service, beyone what you have any reasonable right to expect since the "hacking" seems to be YOUR FAULT.
Edit PS: I note that the OP said he will "cash out" when he leaves, which implies a RMT transaction. This tells me that the OP is not adverse to cheating thru RMT transactions which makes it much more likely that he has done them in the past (given his gear level) thus it is even more likely that the RMT folks 'hacked' his account. So it remains His Fault.

somehow you got a keylogger or such, probably by visiting shady sites or downloading something with malicious software attached. powerleveling and RMT sites have been known to just flat out strip your account or use your stolen credit card info for more illegal activities. also be aware that there are phishing emails for L2 passwords.
and if you ever gave your password to ANYONE, well, that's the risk you take.
we lost a Baium to a long time ingame "friend" so it's really not safe at all to share an account, not matter how well you think you know the person. If you can't conveniently go hunt them down at their house, don't share passwords.
although A LOT of people do share accounts, especially in top clans and between people who've been playing for years, but you still have to accept that there might be one bad apple among 20 who is going to steal yer stuff.
I've not only assisted, but witnessed the full restoration of hacked accounts.
Not only were the toons that were directly connected to the hacker perma banned, but some of the people through reviewing chat logs while trading and such that knew full well that hacking had occured and they were receiving some loot for it were also banned.
You'll ALWAYS hear about the most horrible horror stories pertaining to any company, it's rare that someone makes a huge long post and put plenty of time into make it well known that a specific company has done something amazing.
Frankly since i haven't a clue or any of the specific pertaining to your case, i can say one way other another what actually transpired and what kind of run around you ended up in.
Use every avenue provided to you, pm the communit manager or the HGMs on this board just to explain the situation.
Funny this came up today because it just happened to a clannie.
Chatting in vent and said "Woah, DC... relogging", by the time he was back online his stuff was gone, everything that was not augmented anyway.
24 hours later, NCSoft gave him common A Grade stuff as "Replacements". A very very similar loadout was on sale in Giran too...
Seems like, since it was so fast and reported so quickly, that it should have been a simple matter of finding the baddies. Database records, simple query. If I knew the structure of the exchange database I could write the query for them.
This was a professional job and NCSoft would do well to remove these scum from the roles.
Seems like a rash of these problems, which is why the announcements I guess.
received common gear in replacement for their stolen within a 24 hour period is a load of crap..
i'd exculate that ticket to tier 4 at least
For all we know there could already be an investigation going on. For the benefit of NC, it's in their interests not to announce this kind of thing. We may find that a few weeks down the line, everyone who was affected may be reimbursed. Or they'll get e-mails saying "That's what you get for using power-level companies" or something.... who knows.
We can't make rash judgements without knowing the facts.
Wait... I'm talking to MMO players. Of course we can. :p:cool:
I've also had friends stripped. The were given the IP info by NCSoft, and required to file a police report. Once the report was filed, NCSoft returned all the gear. Obviously... if you are not at fault you need too keep escalating your ticket.
To Sace:
TELL GMS COMMON ITEMS ARE NOT ADEQUATE REPLACEMENTS FOR EPICS/S80 ARMOR&WEAPONS.
(bold/capitalized/color change for emphasis)
TBH, the OP should post the name of the nitwit GM who offered you common items, and they should be fired.

it's already been established in the courts that items and such in a virtual world aren't considered exactly possible stolen property, as it's still in the hands of ncsoft... and too boot, ncsoft owns it all so it's all within Ncsoft own system of control and security to follow through on investigation.

It is more of a formality than anything. If you think about it along the lines of filing a police report is a legal binding document that certain events happened. If you were found to be lying... well... ya.
But making absurd use of a system that is already overloaded with BS can be construde as well when there is already a system in place to make that system redundant not to matter that no policeman or cheif or sherrif or anything for that matter beyond taking it to court and still likely getting tossed out wasting countless hours of time and money in the process for something NCsoft and ONLY NCSoft can deal with.
Actually you do not file a police report for the stolen Items cause that is stupid.
You file a police report for hacking/tampering and trespassing. The person illegally entered a space that was rented or used by you without permission. What you had there is of no consequence its the fact they entered it without permission to use it.
It is a felony but I think you're referring to the "wire tapping" or spying on your computer as the crime. Not someone logging into your game account...

If someone used a keylogger to get your password, they have intruded into your personal space hence the "wire tapping" crime. Logging into your game account would be the same as logging into your bank account, it still a stolen password you do no have permission to access.
The law does not make any difference through video game accounts, email accounts, and online bank accounts. If it is protected by a password and you enter it without permission it is virtual trespassing.
That is like saying there is a difference into breaking into someone's house, their garage, or their shed. If has a lock on it, and you break into it, it does not matter what the structure is, it still trespassing and break and entering.

In NJ its a felony offense.
Being a cop myself...if you call me to your house to report this crap I will take my PR24 out and beat you until you admit to being JFK's killer.
I have yet to see any state case law that involves sale/ownership/tresspassing/tampering with virtual world items or game articles. We have real crimes to worry about....you know murder and drug trafficking and such.
You do not call a cop to your house to make a report like this.
Your a cop and think the law does not exist? Obviously you weren't trained well at the academy.
Its the same as identity theft, a patrol cop does not get the report a detective does. You are not filling a report for theft for game items you filing a report for someone illegally accessing your account and damaging it.
Would you take your P24 and beat someone with it because someone broke into their shed and stole their tools? Its cops like you that give the rest of us a bad name.
Go ask your detectives if they get reports of identity theft and not take it seriously.... Most of the time identity theft is done through online means, so you just will be laughed at.
PS If your in Germany, your commenting on US laws is irrelevant.
This isn't identity theft, this isn't theft...it is the loss of virtual game property which there is no law for in my state (currently living in Germany but was a cop in the states for many years smart ). Even if you did want to pursue it further no law enforcement agency in the US would give a crap about some gamer losing his gear in a game. Or even that his account was hacked for that matter....if you think otherwise you are sadly mistaken.
Unfortunately I find myself skeptical when I read all of these "stories". Of course they can be true and accurate--but I must admit my first thought is always that there is much more to the epic that is not being shared.
I'd guess the first most likely cause for this kind of thing (not saying the OP) would be a purchased account where the last owner is raiding it.
Maybe the 2nd most likely cause would seem to be where other "friends or former friends" had account access info and they raided the account (not particularly friendly!).
Could a random player have figured out how to go into other accounts? I suppose so. Though it would seem that would have some obvious trends and be pretty easy to discover.
If the OP's account is straight--then it's a crappy thing to have happen. Still not NCSoft's fault.
Though to be fair, NCSoft is legendary for poor customer service. Doesn't mean they have a responsibility to make everything with everyone's account okay--but they are notorious for a reason.

Obviously your mistaken. People usually get probation for it but there are a handful of cases in NJ, one i know got 18 months in state prison for it (it was over 100 Itunes accounts though). Your missing the point the law don't care if its a game account or not, you illegally accessed a secured account period. What the account is for irrelevant, your hung up on it being a game account. Forget about the items, its the access your reporting. No one is going to jail cause they stole your drac bow, they going to go to jail illegally accessing a secured account.
Nevermind if the person is doing it for finical gain you have federal laws it violates such as tax evasion and racketeering.

You're right that it doesn't technically matter what the virtual property is, since it's about a trespass into your pc. However, having also been a cop, I can tell you that 99.99% of the time they will crap can (different word, use ur imagination) your report. Even people that have their whole life turned upside down by identity theft have a difficult time getting a police dept to do anything about it.

Yea but Ncsoft wants you to take the hacking seriously, and if you won't a file a police report then your not that serious about it.
I had my identity stolen. The guy got a double whammy though, he didn't I know I was sworn law enforcement which carried a more serious charge of impersonating law enforcement when he took my identity. He got 5 years in state prison, bad luck on his part. I guess they took it a little more seriously since more damage could be done with my name and identity.

I looled hard at this one.
Dude u have to be a terrible cop.
Germany also has law that take care of virtual crimes.

Take care, and don't click on that email phishing link!
They may have deleted it under private communication between staff and member. There is a rule for that. But I have to agree, seems important enough to remain posted. If Aion master accounts were compromised then all master accounts could be.

Pretty bad cop. Hopefully you get fired.

Because lol, yeah, because theft, hacking, etc. is really taken care of the exact same people doing murder and drugtrafficking.

unathorized use of a secure account... sounds illegal to me.
leak interoffice emails on the web and see if the outcome is legal or not... even if they are emails sent to you.

yes cause i see all sort of killers and drug dealers getting lock up by patrolmen.....
what you meant to say was writing speeding tickets and busting teens for smoking dope....

I am sure someone might just click on that link and go to that site. Never undertestimate what and how stupid things sometimes people do. They removed it so that no one would accidentally, or intentionally - who know why!? click on it.
well i will give ncsoft a little pat on the back i knew i had a keylogger but coulent do anything about it so i told them they locked my account i must admit it did make me able to sleep at night. so they do help a bit but the help is a little weak in soem areas
