Hi, I was looking for it in the EULA but better if GM answers me: I saw someone had coloured system message so modified client. Is that a bannable reason? Only damages have different colour, nothing else.
no its actually a mod to client. Yes its bannable but lets be honest L2 is on autopilot and nothing personal against you Sace but they have a very knowledgable CM in L1 who played L2 to a high level they could of brought over but instead hired from outside to someone who never played L2.
Also they hired a brand new HGM in L2 instead of promoting one of the assistant HGM under Spam.
All these things say NCSoft does not care about L2 and it just smoke and mirrors for us to keep paying. As soon as my friend leave L2 im gone, the game is not taken seriously in NA.
You can tell all this buy the lack of content NA has compared to Korea.... they have so many things in there game in Korea we will never get in NA but were suppose to have the same game? There has been ZERO regionalization to NA L2, all they do is translate text and make it live why I still do not know understand we do not get updates within a month of korea... Is translating that hard?
And just how did you see this other person's system message window ? o.O
Sitting next to you ?
A shared SS ?
?????????????????????????????????????????????????
And I disagree Sly Sace seem's to have been a good pickup for NC so far.
As I said its nothing personal against Sace, but if you want the best person for a job its better to hire the person with the most experience if already exist inside your company. Sace is not the first CM we have had with no L2 experience, and they might be a CM but their lack of knowledge and understanding of the frustration of being an actual player of the game is a huge burden to overcome.
Think of it in the military Sgt. are more respected then Lts. Sgts are battle hardenemd vets, where Lts. are qualified but have never been through the rigors of battles the Sgts. have.
This game is just on autopilot if you believe banning anyone now helps the game, you wrong it hurts it at this point because there will be no new legit players to replace them. Korea only has a small development team even working on this game anymore, which can be seen by the last 2 years of updates which is just redoing areas already in the game.

Greets
In theory it is bannable, but in practice... maybe after some mass petitition if that person is really hated^^
BTW I want to see that movie :D
This question brings to mind an episode that happened a while back.
Someone that was doing third class change and got stuck for some reason and posted screenshots.
What that person didn't think of was that he was using third party software and it was obvious from the screenshots as well. Not long after that happened the user tried to remove the screenshots, but it was already to late.
HGM spam caught him with it and he just replied to the thread that that toon no longer needed to do the third class change for obvious reasons that he was banned. :D
I have also seen movies that has alot of third party users in them, and i read later on that some of them have been banned. :)
I hope that all third party users will be banned some day. I just hope that it's not to late to ban those who has used third party programs in the past also. :p
I know you can underline certain message, like for example: Neiji, resisted critcal hit. so that if these three words appear they are underlined. Never seen colored ones before though

I use this feature, its called "filter" which I thought would remove stuff from the window that contained the term. At least I was hopeful that I could just have the game ignore any chat with something like "adena sale" or "www." in it.
THAT WOULD BE A GREAT FEATURE BTW...
What it actually does, like Neiji says, is underlines anything in your chat window that matched the terms. I use it for "activated" so it is easy to see "the spoil condition has been activated". Makes is slightly easier to see that I don't need to spoil again.
what the oop is asking for is bluntly put if it's bannable to modify any file of the clients (system folder) as that's what ppl need to modify if they want to change system messages lay out/colours etc.
it's nothing to get really excited about and has been discussed to death in the past before since the change in system messages in what c5 ?
pretty sure the answer is yes it's bannable so don't ever post such screens on official site, use fan sites or private forums instead if you really have to share something that shows such thing..
having said that I would love to see this brought back on the list for enhancement request back to Korea as there's really no reason why this can't be added to the system options function ingame..
ps, if any moderator has a problem with this post feel free to delete/modify it just pass the suggestion on to the Korean dev team ty

If you are directly altering any of the files in the Lineage 2 folder. I'm fairly certain that is bannable and to a greater extent than that in certain situations. I'm not talking about deleting the GG folder or another file for the client to update.
He has a PvP movie and asked me, can he share on public or better not.
A rhetorical question, but your "friend" is a cheater. He/she uses altered client to play.
What would be the value of his/her "pvp movie"?
A movie showing that those who violate the EULA can win in PvP? I think that's already pretty well established (lmao).
of course, your "friend" will have you believe that the ONLY change they made was colored chat--sure, that would make sense and totally be worth the effort!
altered system messages don't give any advantage beside being able to better read them so I wouldn't go as far as comparing it to those that uses 3rd party soft

That's not the point.
A guy goes to the trouble of putting in some 3rd party software--and the risk.
And you automatically think the only thing he altered was chat text colors?
I suppose it's possible--but I'd guess unlikely. My first thought (sorry, I'm a confirmed skeptic) would be that he altered a number of things to his advantage with the game client and also grabbed a quick program that would alter chat colors.....
If I saw a PvP video and it showed any alteration of the client (even chat colors), I'd automatically think to myself "so, this so-called PvPer violated the EULA with that--he probably has a lot of 3rd party assists then. My first impression is he is a fragile sissy who can't play the game, who can't stand to lose, and who has to use cheats to be able to compete---so WHY do I want to see his PvP video?"
I realize others might not process it that way, but at this point I sure would.
A cheater is a cheater is a cheater is a cheater. It may not all be equal in the eyes of many, but to me it's universally wrong.
Not a surprise in L2 to anyone at this point. You alter the client with 3rd party software and they catch you--you can suffer consequences.
If you do (cheat and get caught and have consequences), there should be no QQing after the fact.
The opportunity to avoid crying was when they made the decision to violate the EULA they agree to at every log in.
My point stands in my mind. What would be the value of a "Pvp video" posted by a player who would cheat?
Hell, give me enough advantages over everyone else and I become a good PvPer (lmao)--which would be saying something considering I'm the worst PvPer ever to play L2!!
~D~

To be honest after 5+ years of hearing the same arguments;over and over, everyone that really enjoys this game for what it is in our own way.
If you haven't noticed NCSoft is actually doing fairly well.
If its true or not I don't really care. Regardless of that, the franchise that they have always been able to fall back on to hold them up is Lineage.
Seems to me they are doing something right. Only problem is they seem to only focus on the enjoyment of the players in South Korea. The style of play from South Korea to way the game is played in NA and Europe is completely different.
Saying that altering any of the games files in anyway would require a ban isn't exactly specific. Unfortunately in NA/Europe this has always been an area that NCSoft has never been clear on. And would never comment on directly on the forums.

About all the rl money they are making....I hear they invented a button that they press that increases profit...wait.... well they do have a reputation about being honest..i mean their CEO even told the press that he sees nothing wrong with buying Adena...yeah so its against the EULA's but what the f...do they mean anyway. It's just something they added for chuckles.

I'm sure the decision was made with everyone's interest at heart with a vote where the only choices were cake or death....if you need a summary of the recent success I post this classic clip. Cheers!

Pointless.
I have to LOL at some of the comments I see here. Such sound logic  Coloring the text does not equate to cheating. The reality of the situation is this:
NcSoft has to protect their intellectual property, and keep ppl from making modifications like zoom hacks, so to do that they just have a blanket policy prohibiting modding client files. That doesn't mean that they really care that some kid's damage window is colored, and it doesn't mean he is a cheater. It's just easier for them to say no one except NcSoft can make modifications to the existing client.
the reason i don't call this comparable to 3rd party software is simply cause the mod can be done without the need of anything running on the background while playing L2 unlike any bot/pvp prog.
please check first what the system message mods can do, google is your friend, before saying it's equal to your average Teon end game player with l2ranger/l2control..
the short end is both are bannable but they're nowhere near equal on the level of breaking the rules, it's like comparing shoplifting with armed bank robbery..

So you think a "player" goes to the trouble of downloading programs and taking the risk of getting perma-banned---simply because they want to see nice colors in chat?
Your first impression when you see that a player altered the client is that they ONLY altered chat colors?

It's very possible. Don't judge people that you have no idea about them.
Modded chat is fixing what NcSoft broke. Using ranger is something, that still for many people destroys fun of pvp.
Before you start, I use neither thing. But unlike you, I'm not ignorant about them.
On blah i disagree with people, that say "everyone is unlegit" and equalize someone, who share account with RL friend to someone who bot all the way to 85 and use exploits like it was not enough.
Here on official boards I disagree with people on the same matter, but from different side.
Simple question: can you say, that you NEVER EVER crossed street on a red light? And is it fair to assume, that if you crossed street on a red light, you most likely also commited a bank robbery?
I'll thank you to keep your opinions about what I think to yourself.
I'm not interested in what you believe I should or shouldn't think.
I'm sharing MY opinion. It doesn't have to be your opinion. You don't have to like it or agree with it.
But I still have a right to have one that is different from yours.
You think it's judgemental to throw all cheaters together. Well good for you.
Who gives a crap?
I think it's a rational concept to expect that someone who will cheat in one way is likely to cheat in another way.
My opinion.
You're free to have (and share) any one that you want. I don't appreciate you telling me what I should believe.
What I really don't know is that you have any reason to be giving me lessons on opinions.
And for the record, I may not KNOW that this "friend" referenced by the OP is a cheater in multiple areas....but I know three things. I absolutely know he had no problem finding a 3rd party program, he had no problem installing a 3rd party program, and he had no problem using a 3rd party program.
You want to argue about WHICH program he downloaded and used? That's just ignorant.
No 3rd party programs, nothing unlegit stuff, only that damages are coloured to red and green, nothing more.
An official answer would be great cause atm I'm still not sure if its ok or not and wanna make this clear. My friend want to show only few ppl but you never can know who betrays you, so...
I'll thank you to keep your opinions about what I think to yourself.

I never denied you right to have opinion, nor told you what you should belive. The point of discussion forum is discussing opinions, and if you disagree, using arguments to proove your point.it's pointless to discuss facts, so people discuss opinions, no?
....but I know three things. I absolutely know he had no problem finding a 3rd party program, he had no problem installing a 3rd party program, and he had no problem using a 3rd party program.

Anyone, who had played this game for few years, will not have problem with finding these things, unless he lives in his own little world. Installing them is only a matter of choice, not a matter of finding or having any special "knowledge".
I think it's a rational concept to expect that someone who will cheat in one way is likely to cheat in another way.
My opinion.
Your opinion sounds logical, as long as you don't put weight of certain cheat into equation. And in reality of l2, this opinion doesn't take into account, what influence has certain cheat on a person using it. In our case, one of the "cheats" fixes minor interface issue, and the other one spoils fun for anyone, that enjoys the game itself, more than winning at all cost. Also, you assume that there is some difficulty with finding and using any of these two things.
So your opinion is based on not complete data.
Again, I don't deny you right to have such opinion. I'm just discussing this opinion on a discussion board. And I except that you either can defend your point of view or prove, that my is wrong.

OK apparently I need to educate you a bit here:
1) It's a simple text mod. A basic text editor and two minutes of your time will do it.
2) They have no way of knowing that your text is colored unless you post pics/vids of it w/your char's name displayed. So who is getting perma-banned?
The non-colored text hasn't bothered me enough to where I've changed mine, but if I did I wouldn't worry about getting banned. There's a world of difference between seeing your damage in red color, and auto-target/cp spam/radar programs.

I understand your argument.
Got it: chat color doesn't matter and it's not like real cheating.
Every-freakin-body-gets it already.
Now rocket scientist, the REST OF THE POINT is......
why would someone go through any effort and risk at all to JUST change their chat color?
Does it really make sense to you that a guy that can and does alter the client, ONLY alters it in a way that changes chat color?
Nevertheless, the OP asked for an official answer, and the simple fact is that the user agreement states:
"You may not modify any part of the Lineage II Client, Server, or any part of the official Lineage II website."
So, even if it is just a simple, small change to the colour of the chat text, it is not allowed. Yes, it may not give a big advantage, yes, MAYBE a gm will say "well that was not that horrible to do" and just give you a slap on the wrist, but still - according to the user agreement, it is a ban-worthy offense.
No GM will tell you anything different than that, because stating otherwise would be against their own rules.
And btw I'd bet most people do not even know what to edit where, so they just plonk some downloaded file into their L2 directory and thereby automatically also get all the other stuff like bigger zoom range etc, and then it is not just a simple case of "I just changed the colour of the damage in chat".
I personally know people, who change only chat. So you are simply wrong. You are discussing against FACTS. Got it?.
if you think you know people who only change chat, then you are easily fooled.
Nobody is actually going to risk (whether you think it might happen or not) a perma-ban to ONLY change their chat colors.
That just makes me laugh!!
Really. Chat colors?
I'm back to: "what are you, 10?"
Seriously grow up. A person that will alter the client will alter the client. Period.
Haven't you been playing?
Except for a very small "few"--EVERYBODY CHEATS.
So given that, you actually believe your buddies altered the client and ONLY changed chat color---l.m.a.o.

Right.
lol you really have no clue how those programs work huh. A change to a text file will only change what you see on your client. It doesn't interact with the server in the way you're thinking.
3rd party programs on the other hand do interact with the packets being sent back and forth between the client and the server, and can even manipulate those packets (hide for instance).
This is what people have been trying to explain to you for days now:
1) YOU DO NOT NEED A 3rd PARTY PROGRAM TO CHANGE TEXT COLOR
2) RADAR/CP/Auto-Target/etc is not an alteration of the client. It is done using 3rd party programs that intercept packets.

Right.
There is no reason to not belive certain people. Most are open about what they do .
1. You can easily see if someone uses radar, especially if you are in party with that person. It's easy to see what kind of software someone is using. And why would that person not tell you anyway, cause only party as a whole can take advantage from its most important functions.
2. If you know certain person long enough, you know his playstyle, behavior etc. Most casual people don't form strong relations in game, thus I understand general attitude on this forum about "not knowing what the other guy is doing". But if you spend 6 months in a constant party with someone, that's the other thing.
3. Read Retribution post. Personally I would be affraid of installing radar program, cause it can be detected, and as gossip says GM's even do tests against it. Changed chat brings no risk of getting banned, as long as you don't post screenshots.
Clearly a number of individuals are very well informed about precisely how to cheat--all the ins and outs and exactly what is involved.
Not surprising really.
Me? Couldn't tell you the first thing. It would never occur to me to learn how to cheat. That's not the case with others apparently.
I commend you all on your depth of knowledge on the subject. Impressive. Must have been doing a research project or something....
