I need a source were I can check market prices. I don't want to sell things too cheap or too expensive, and sometimes there is no one to compare with. Does anyone know of a good place to find information on this?
That's the good thing in L2, you have to watch the market and communicate with others to find out prices, that's why it's still possible to make great profits with buying low and selling high if u have gathered the apropriate infos. If there would be an auction house, the pricing differences would be way lower and the fun in playing the market would be gone.
would be more fun if there was a AH
now its to much work and to little gain
unless u got a great memory and/or write down everything its impossible to keep up with all the changes

yea better for the casual players because prices would be lower, but not for those that live from the market ><
Unless u just want to sell sth. ocassionally, do it like nuku suggested. If u want to earn constant money, you'd specialize on some products and know about those prices. If u just want to sell that single item and dont know the price, ask in shout or sit down with what u think is way overpriced and lower it daily untill someone buys it.
To remember prices in general, it's not as hard as many think. All it takes is to run through giran for 20-30 minutes, check shops for what they sell and the amount they sell it and listen to shout a bit. Do that daily and you'll automatically remember most of the prices or at least in which range they are beeing traded for. Sometimes you'll find sth. way underpriced and can make a good deal here and there.

A couple suggestions.
First of all, you always know the lowest price all items are "worth"--because you get those from going through the screens at NPC shops.
Of course you wouldn't complete the sale. When you put the item in the 'sale' window at the NPC shops they will show you what they will pay to take it back.
So no matter what, you always have a bottom figure (which you will set your sale price over).
This isn't the whole answer but it's an important first piece.
So if you have a "vanish", and no one is selling varnish so that you can't just compete with the prices other players have posted, you know two things about your server's market.
Varnish must be 'worth' more than 100 adena and nobody is selling any!!!
Asking a few players or clanmates what varnish tends to sell for should get some reference.
One buddy says, "Um, I saw it at 800a each a couple weeks back"
Another says, "it was 2,200a each in December! that was cool for sellers"
and so on.....
So it's 'worth' more than 100a (NPC buy back price) and it has sold from 800-2200 in the past 3 months.
I would immediately bring my 15k varnish out of the WH and set up a shop for 2500a each--seriously.
The goal is for YOU to profit as much as possible--it's economic PvP. You against everyone else on the server. You want to squeeze every adena you can from the suckers and fo....um, customers that you can.
Someone wins and someone loses. If you make an item selling for 17m and there aren't any others for sale, you might ask 18m. I'd ask 25m. At 18m I'd take it off the market and store it rather then sell at the low end.
Sell high. As high as you can imagine. Don't offer bargains, choose to withhold your stuff if it will only sell at usual market rates, and remember that these players buying from you are your enemies.
You're not offerring a service. You want to appear to be--but you're not. You are trying to gain advantage over other players.
So--how do you price YOUR stuff? You price it to take advantage of everyone else and get all the adena from them that you can. If you got your 'stuff', obviously they could too--but they aren't willing to do that. They aren't willing to invest your time and effort. That means they have to pay and that you win.
In my time selling I've learned 2 things in this game. You can literally sell ANYTHING to other players, and, there is always another player who will show up to give you adena.
PS. If you're going to participate in Selling (which will make you a rare L2 player--lol), you need to get a cheap 3 ring binder/paper and begin to log some key market information with dates. This is the most important tool you can keep. Combine what you log with what you see and you should notice opportunities for selling. Good luck.
So im one of those Players who ignore the market best i can.
Reasons are:
* Evrything is far to expensive wich comes from a player shop.
The reason is the continous inflation from buying low, selling high.
* I have better things to do sitting in a town and watching a sales window.
An Auction House would at least allow me to sell while i play and invalidate my second point. But i still wouldnt buy anything from Players.
Thank you Smiite...
Everyone keeps saying a AH... it's striking a nerve every time...
An AH... there is no way it can even be considered an a before AH...
even if you say it as ah, awe sound... it's still an awe...
or if you say the word out... it's still an auction...
blah!!!
ok... grammar rant over.

this is true, although if you're reluctant, you can always start small and look into a few markets. Iron ore, Varnish, Bone... these are always fluxuating up and down between in a +/- 400 window.
otherwise for price checking...
if for equipment, look around and find the grade...
determine what the bonus is and what the SA is...
see what people use to determine supply and demand...
look on the market for similar items and price accordingly.
note if there is only one on the market, try watching it for a day or so to see if it sells... if it does, price higher, if it doesn't... try not to ptice too much higher:)
Sometimes ppl amaze me with their bad knowledge of the english language. And in about 80% of those cases, the person with the bad knowledge is from America.
As a matter of fact if you have unique items for sale (no one else is selling them) you should be advanced enough in the game to have your own judgement:-)
Also you can:
1. Ask friends
2. Have common sense. After each major upgrade some prices fluctuate wildly. So quite often you bought expensive items and the price dropped... it will be stupid to try to sell them at the higher price because "you see, I payed that much for it". But, if possible, you can try to bundle it and sell with no or almost no profit but at no loss too. Of course this can cover some price differences but not "times" in price drop.
The school curriculum in America is about "values determination", "moral relevance", "diversity", "self esteem and you", "global warming", "the glory of socialism", and "revised history"--they don't have TIME to learn reading, arithmetic, science, grammar & spelling.
Add to that 'no tests' and 'no markers for achievement' and you pretty much have the answer to what is happening in school.
"If math were a color, what color do you think it would be? Why?"--an actual extra credit question in a 9th grade MATH class........
Market is one of the cool things in the game. I'm with the the no auction house people :)
Yes 20-30 mins most days to scan all the shops - thats all you need to do to really start enjoy and understand the market and trends. Having a good memory for numbers probably helps.
I guess people either love or hate the market, granted, it does take some initial patience/effort/time to get 'into' it to be able to use the market effectively. But then, that could be considered player skill with an aspect of the game could it not..?
Get good at the market, end result can be a better geared character, so is a way to add to the strength of your character rather than just grind. Therefore, is worthwhile :) And fun. And another cool aspect of the game. Crafting can also tie in with it and combine the two.
