Announce Banned Bots

General Discussion Started Last reply 48 posts
I would like to see an in-game announcement every time a bot gets banned saying:

"xx, from the clan xx, has had his account suspended on accounts of using third party software to automate gameplay"

or

"xx, from the clan x, has been banned for buying in-game currency"

Edit: Dang it, made it on the wrong section. Move to Suggestion please ><

Voted yes. Though again, how would you handle people who are banned in error? They'd be branded forever, even re-announcing it wouldn't help, as the original people might not be on any longer and people might think "Oh, he's guilty anyway, he just found a loophole".

Just a question

So if a player was wrongfully banned they should be forced to change their character name, which by the way in the end would not help because it would eventually get out who you are. And announcing clans is just as bad, because it can tarnish a clans repuation too. Some might just be too naive to realize someone in their clan is botting.

Read again, did I say they would be forced into changing their name?

And about the clan retion being tarnished? NC already has a policy of banning anyone getting direct or indirect benefit from a bot, even if they are legit.

I voted yes too but I didn't think about that until I saw your post.

I would say their name would be removed from the list.

Thats what anonimous means.

If they didn't change their name it would STILL be tarnished. So in the end, their name, no matter what, is tarnished. And they don't ban a WHOLE clan for 1 person botting, they'll ban someone from say, sitting in a party with bots while knowing, but if someone honestly didn't know, and weren't obviously trying to benefit from it, then I'm pretty sure they will be good. But you get an announcement that so and so from this clan has been banned, that whole clan will be labled botters.

Speaking as a clan leader of a clan with strong anti-cheating policy, if NCSoft would ever publish a name of my clannie as banned for botting, RMT or the like, I would go ahead and publish this news myself on the front page of my clan web site. Titled "Rejoice - One less botting in Unity!" or something to that effect.

Which is how you'd run it, but it's hardly fair to not give other people the choice.

Again, I did not say they ban whole clans for 1 person. And btw, anybody can say "I didnt know Q.Q"
Voted yes.

Rest of the clan should have nothing to worry about as long as the clan leader recognises it was just one bad apple and the other members are all legit. However, if more and more players are announced from that clan, then the clan rep deserves a bit of a tarnishing.

Then that whole statement was pointless for the conversation we were having. And yes anyone can say that, but I'm talking about evidince. They test things to make sure they have reason to ban. But whatever, in the end I PERSONALLY do not think that that info should be shared with the world. That is business to only the person that played the character. Their is absolutely no reason anybody else would need to know.

Thank you for your vote. Next please...

And what if the person was cleared and unbanned by NCSoft as a mistaken ban?

An updated news notice (and a personal apology from me, but that's beside the point). :)
yes pls
I voted "I like nuts" and here's why...

1) I do. Ga(y)mers for the win. (PS - why is G@y censored? I'm g@y, I don't find the word offensive... the F- word in reference to me is offensive, but not the G- word LOL wth?)

2) I've made this point in other threads. Do I think bots should be banned? Absolutely. Do I think they should announce it? Probably not. The only reason I say no is because that is a communication between the company and their client. As far as people saying those being wrongly accused/banned -- that is sort of the reason for this. All measurements have error. The system they use to decide if someone is a bot or not inherently has some error. The bots themselves inherently have error. There are so many X-factors that could go into the banning process, you don't work there so why do you need to know? You don't. Really it's no bodies business. So when that 85/80/80/80 Hero from the server goes missing... "Uh, durrrr, I wundah wha happen't 2 him?!"

It's the same thing in any service industry. You always err on the side of the customer/client. Even if they are wrong. You don't have to give into the demands to be unbanned, but you don't need to go spreading their business all over town, so to speak.

So anyway, 2 paragraphs into one sentence. Yes, ban them; no, don't post it, just do the job and leave it at that.
I personally liked the announcements just for the fact that it was apparently something was going on and the GM's were alive!

But I can see how it effects the wrongfully accused which makes me think twice about my vote.
If Nsc make mistake and ban a legit player who is suffering all game's trash(botters getting all heroes, making rl money, lack of all good events ect.ect.ect)

then Nsc does a BIG mistake.I can compare it with a thief who rubs banks and goes away with milions and leaves a luxury life and a bank employee who gets arrested and punished because some policeman or judge really need to find a thief!

I voted to announce names/clans,it is so easy to understand a toon who is botting from his automatic moves,i believe gms shouldnt be mistaked.Other reasons of ban like buying adena(and in reality trading with some friend in game) require far more investigetion untill to be sure the toon is guilty(and people who ebay much also bot much so its easy to caught them).

If a legit player is banned Nsc should make another announcement to clarify his name.

I dont like the idea of re-named,botters rename not legil players.

Also, untill we dont get all events korea does i seriously doubt if market could work without people's ebay...even if you dont ebay you make a shop and you sell easy cause people in server can find milions in no time,or you dont sell anything for months cause people dont want to spend more money to play.
Who is telling me that he prefers to have no sails in shop mode than sell to players that ebayed adena? But we propose to ban people that ebay.....isnt this a paradox?

First give us the korean content, then ban and announce it.
Good idea imo. I don't think anyone would be 'tarnished' by it if they got accidentally banned. As soon as they are seen back in game again it would be obvious it was a mistake.
It's not like people don't already talk nonsense in-game as it is. Wouldn't be any different imo...

Edit: ^ Even better idea from atarth. Just re-announce them as 'mistakenly banned'.
The list would be poted with mostly NOVA and FS toons anyway ....
Voted "Yes"
At first I agreed that this might be a good idea, but since reading some posts i've reconsidered.

While it would be nice to be able to see that something is being done about the bots, this is the wrong way. Here's my reasoning:

-If someone was to be in a party and they were completely unaware of the fact that another person in party was using a 3rd party program (which i would like to point out is VERY possible if they set the program up, but stay at the computer and keep typing/talking in vent) and the innocent player was banned for being in party with a bot, the message was displayed for everyone, then said person was unbanned and allowed back in game no one would want anything to do with them or have any trust in them.

-Many clans names would be totally ruined just because of one person botting that they could have been totally unaware of. Don't even say any BS that they wouldn't, you know that even now when 1 person is suspected of botting in a clan that the entire clan is automatically labeled as a bot clan to the rest of the server.

-IT WOULD BE A COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME! You're asking them to take the time to catalog each and every ban that they make and report back to us saying "Hey Mommy! Look what i did! I caught the bad guys!" Seriously?
No one cares about the regular bot trains running around, you all want this just so you can see which big names get banned.
It's not that hard to tell when someone just disappears!

I vote no - Not because "i wouldn't want anyone to know if i was caught botting", but because it would NOT be an improvement to the game.
I love nutas
I want to have my log spammed with "asdadfa" and "zxc00asdf", oh and don't forget his brother "ad234adsf".
I would like to see an in-game announcement every time a bot gets banned saying:

Are there so little bots banned that every case needs my attention?
this poll sucks
a fixed poll :D if anyone dont agree with you one is botting? hehe

I voted :No, if I was caught botting, I wouldn't like anyone to know.
And what if the person was cleared and unbanned by NCSoft as a mistaken ban?I would say their name would be removed from the list.

You don't see that as bot's aren't being banned. This isn't rocket science to figure it out by your self...
Naive ppl....don't you see that even if they are banned, they un-banned after a while.

:S poll
How does announcing names of people banned, crack down on botters? Considering people get banned for a variety of reasons.
Yes, they should announce! Át least that would scare more players before do something!

But for me, put that button bot report working and see the traces of their toon evolution!

Lets show these suckers who really owns this game! Kill them all!!!!!

I believe they just recently put a censor on it, because someone used it in an insulting manner the other day, and I, of course, objected about it.
Ban what ever you feel, but do not announce the characters name across the world. Not that I care 'bout his or her retion, but because I couldn't care less. I get enough spam into my chat box within this game, hero shouts....(Yes, I realise I can turn them off, but important information goes through there that I'd also like to see)

If you want to announce ; put it on your main page, except instead of telling names make of list of which servers have had what amount banned in the past week/what ever.

Doesn't really matter, however.
Well I saw this on another site and it just made me so mad to see this bot still playing. So I will post a link here and hope NCSoft takes a look at the site. Download and watch. Just turn off sound cuase its not a nice song.

I still cant believe that this botter is still around. Well hopefully this shames them and they stop.
I vote yes because it would be amusing. What is L2 without drama ?

Annnnnd I see the substance of this thread deteriorating now. Probably gonna be locked eventually. LOL

LOL, the subject of this video is a Hero on Sayha as we speak...
Sace, give us a sign. Are you guys at NC NA looking at this sugestion?
Yes we have been looking into it, but I can say right away that we have no plans to announce the names of banned characters.

I like cashews.
Thanks for the reply. Its really helpful when we see this kind of official response sooner rather than later, even if we dont like the answer.
Thank you Sace for answering.
But i would at least like to get announcement ingame and on the website of how many account were banned and what reason, for each server

Yay!!
I take it at some point you're going to run it past the lawyers, I'm really interested to see if there is case law or some background the legally hinders you from doing this. (RE: the discussion I was having with another member in another thread.)

Might sound silly but if you find an answer to that could you let me know? I'm just nerdy like that and am curious.
