Yes, I love the concept of 12 hours of full Vitality Level 4, and have utilized it in every case that was feasible.
2) Are you happy with the functionality of the Birthday Buff?
Kind of. The fact that it is a "buff" limits you in what can you do until you run it off if you are trying to utilize it to its fullest. I will only login a bday buff char for grinding, and nothing else. You can't do Oly while you have it, you can't switch to a sub while you have it, and anything like instances that strip buffs you have to avoid while you have it as well.
As has been mentioned in the past, it would be a *vast* improvement if the buff could be tied to a shadow item of some sort (talisman maybe?) that would allow for 12 hours of time before it ran out of mana. This would allow people to then use the bonus on multiple subs if they wish, as well as allow them to go do things like Oly/Instances/etc without losing it.
Going the Talisman route also would allow us sadistic people with tons of alts to stack a few of them up on an alt that we rarely play, and if we ever decided it was time for that alt to take a more regular role, you could still have the talismans sitting there to use. The current bday buff will probably just over-write one another I am guessing?
The more I think about this, the more they really need to make this a talisman, that would make it almost perfect to be honest.

I have probably plowed through the full 12 hour buff on about 8 chars so far. I have the buff sitting on another handful that I haven't had time to get to yet.

Yes, I have a few toons I would have really liked to have gotten the bday buff on that I wasn't able to get because of travel and other IRL things that kept me from logging on those days.

No, unless I died without Noblesse Blessing on, but I don't think I ever did that.

I love the buff in general. My issues with it are described below.

I'd prefer if it were a rune or some other item that could not be dropped or exchanged. This way you don't have to worry about dying and losing the buff (or overbuffing it off).

Yes, I was coming back from a break and missed it on my main by two days.

I lost it on my crafter after dying with no noblesse buff on.
Btw would it be possible to make each additional year give some different accessory?
- it restricts you in what you can do as long as you have the buff. For example, you cannot change to a different class (sub/main) without losing the buff. So you cannot e.g. use 6 hours of the buff on the main and 6 hours on a sub, you have to decide on the class you want to use the buff on before you get it.
- it is too easy to lose the buff. Sure, noble buff prevents you from losing it on death. But there are by now too many buff cancel effects in game (hero cancel pole, cancel pvp augmentation on daggers/fists, cancel nuker skill) and a lot of people think it is immensely funny to try and make everybody they see with the bday buff lose it, just because they get a kick out of griefing others. You are pretty much forced to always have a bsoe handy, and when you see a glowy guy with a pole running towards you or anybody else who MIGHT be able to cancel your buffs, bsoe back to town. That is pretty annoying and makes the whole birthday buff a lot less enjoyable.
So I would suggest to change the birthday buff into something like the Eva's Rune. Either have the birthday NPC give you a "birthday box" or just automatically put it into a character's warehouse on his birthday. When you right-click the box, you get a "birthday rune" in your inventory which starts ticking down as long as you are logged in. It gives you a passive skill with the same effect as the birthday buff. So you can CHOOSE when to use the buff (e.g. if your birthday happens to be on a siege day, you are not forced to stay away from the siege because you have the buff), and it also cannot be cancelled.

Yes. My dwarf had it shortly after the one major update (I think this last one?) where there was that 1hp death bug. I got killed, rez'd, stood up to all the monsters still being agro on me and having 1hp. DIED again, too soon to renoble myself. Was told by a GM that it happened the way the game intended it to happen and there was nothing they could do about it. Several weeks later the bug was fixed. LOL
My own suggestion:
It would be great if you found a way for the birthday buff to just become an item in your inventory (like those exp/sp tome things we got for that one event) that get put into the characters inventory automatically.
If the account is active, the tome would appear, and it couldn't be over-buffed or killed off.
It seems like the one thing that would make everyone happy (just so long as it didn't keep ticking while you were logged out like the tomes did).

I like that it is only a once a year thing and that there is a time limit on how long you can have it for. However, I do think that there are some things that could be changed.
The bday buff, while great, limits some of the things you can do (this is by the player's choice however). Personally, while I had my buff I felt that I couldn't set up a shop, or go to town to restock because I was wasting my precious minutes of the buff.
What I would like to see would be the option to turn off the bday buff while in town, but not anywhere else (similar to how you cannot receive mail while out of town, you wouldn't be able to turn off the buff unless in town either). This would allow someone who had the buff to set up shop, restock, or simply be online without losing time on the buff (which would allow those of us who don't have parties set up the opportunity to ask around for a good xp group). Once you left town however, the buff would automatically turn back on. Unlike a talisman or shadow item, there would be no risk of someone popping on the talisman and gaining full vit then taking off the talisman, using up all the vit, and repeating the process for 12 hours.

Yah, love the vit, though I would prefer it if when you get the buff initialized, you automatically get full Vit... Didn't know the first time... took a while to get up there...

Not really. Last year I only had my main class PP, too low for subs, and i didn't have any main DD, so it was nice... but was soloing a fair bit of it, which anyone can tell you is a waste of 12 hours of vit...

No, I have had the misfortune of getting PK'ed simply because I had my Bday buff on. (Some people just have nothing better to do I guess :/). I love the idea of a shadow item that allows you to have the same effect as the buff. I suggest a shadow head accessory so we're not forced to buy a bracelet for a rune.

no... I was only able to catch the B-day buff on 2 toons and and both were Pk'ed

Yes, on 4 toons at least. I lost internet connection for 2 weeks during my main's and my second fav alt's birthday so I lost the opportunity, that hurt. The others, I was either too lazy or not paying attention.

Yes... the only 2 toons I was able to snag it on were targeted by evil monkeys and squirrels (I blame the penguins too) that decided to use blunt objects as paint brushes on my teenie C grade armor. And add to the fact that it's my fault for soloing that day, include my carebearness, hehe yeah I'm liking the shadow item idea A LOT more now

I was not happy that I had to wait a year to get the buff on my main, because you started giving it out after my main's bday was gone. I helped beta test this game and should not of had to wait that long.

My biggest concern is missing it due to out-of-game circumstances.
If my internet is out, or I have family obligations, or work, or... whatever, I don't get to benefit. My suggestion would be one similar to what I have seen posted here: make it an item you receive, to activate when you choose.

Think that would be a good way to ensure people can get it as soon as their date of birth is reached (so an item receivable as of the date of birth and that can be used when the player wishes to activate it. Like the event chests we got not so long ago that gave 4h of extra XP gain)

would like to add that for those of us closed/open beta players aka those with a birthday date from before it was introduced we're still short 1 compared to the rest of the player base that are now in their 2nd round of getting this buf..
besides that like several other poster before have suggested make it like the xp/sp runes so even if you die or run into a bufstealer/cancel stick you won't lose it

I like the idea of the buff but i do have mixed feelings because i've lost some buffs with some characters that were important to me because i was out of town for example.
I like how the buff doesnt disapear if u go to oly... is a nice detail but i lost it with my SE and i dont know how... I took it and i barelly logged her, then i didnt had it the next week... this doenst happen often because i still have some chars with bday buff by several weeks.
Only thing that i feel could make the bday buff better would be making it like an item that you auto get as somoene said... lets say... something like a buff potion that is not tradeable... and it automatically appears in your warehouse in your bday... that way you can choose when to use the buff and you cant miss it. I had to take my dorf buff during one of the toughest weeks for me and i cant use the buff yet so i cant sell stuff for these days =(

I think you should get the birthday buff when you put on the head accessory you get on your birthday, and the buff will be taken off and saved when you take off the head accessory, and when the buff is over you have the head accessory as a keepsake. I think a new head accessory should be introduced each year.
3. I fully used the birthday buff on my main and my crafter, and my se currently has hers.
4. I forgot about a few of my toons birthdays, usually the day after is when I would remember. Would be nice if we could get our buff any day within 7 days after our birthday. Or as other people have said, an item in our warehouse.

All the other posters have said what needs to be said. It needs to be an item (or several items) that once you open it, you have "X" number of hours with the viatality buff on.
Here is my idea, make it a rune type item that you have to open to activate . Once you open it up, you have 2 hours of vitality restoration. The time will work like any other rune, it is 2 hours of real time, no matter what happens. It cannot be taken away by death, switching classes, over buffing, or cancel by another player. Then give us 6 of them to make the 12 hours of the benefit. (Kind of like a different version of the vitality sticks we have gotten the past 2 years).
That is my thought on this, but I do love the benefit of full vitality for 12 hours.
I haven't used the birthday buff yet. I don't play as often as I used to, so more than likely my toons have level 4 vitality anyway when I log.
But since you want improvements (revamp?) on the birthday buff, a thought or two:
Birthdays should be treated like events. For the duration of this "event", players are invited to Fantasy Isle, where they obtain a talisman that grants them Vitality and access to a special hunting instant. Let's call that hunting instant the Chronologically-Actualized Killing Environment or "CAKE" for short.
While having CAKE, players hunt mobs their level which drop complete items of their same Grade Level Expertise at an exponentially increased rate. No Common Items, no mats, no adena, no recipes, dyes, etc., etc., only complete "superior" or Foundation armor or weapon drops only.
The catch? Several...
1. The longer you stay in the CAKE, the faster the Vitality component of your birthday award is consumed. You do not earn XP or SP killing the birthday mobs, but the timer on Vitality speeds up tremendously all the same. Some players may choose to hunt normally rather than try CAKE. (Doubtful.) Once Vitality reaches 0, you are expelled from the CAKE and cannot re-access.
2. The player's inventory is reduced to allow pick up of only 1 item. The player cannot drop/trade that item until he or she has left CAKE.
3. Players can enter and exit CAKE for as long as the Vitality Talisman lasts. However, each time you exit CAKE, you drop one level of Vitality. Get disconnected while in the CAKE? Too bad, so sad, the GM's can't/won't help restore your Vit. Consider yourself SOL, which has nothing to do with CAKE, birthdays, or weapons.
4. The item(s) dropped by the birthday mobs disappear after 30 seconds, if not picked up. Decide quickly whether to pick up or kill the next mob in hopes of getting a better drop before your Vitality is exhausted.
5. Summons and pets can be used, but again, only the master can pick up an item...and he cannot transfer anything to a pet's inventory while in CAKE.
6. Once an item is picked up, the character's statistics are reduced by 75%, including movement speed, patk, DEX, etc.
Birthdays aren't just about having more life (i.e., vitality) but about the gifts you receive from friends and loved ones who cherish you. Does NCSoft and the Lineage 2 team cherish the subscribers? Then give us REAL gifts!!! :D

I love the fact that I can grind for 12 hrs without losing vitality, meaning that I can grind away my levels faster. Ultimately for me as a casual player that is a good thing.

Nope, I hate the fact that it is a buff. I lose it when I die, which unfortunately for some of my toons happens far too much, (squishy SH in VOS). It is too restricting, as many others have suggested a shadow item would be better.

Yes, on many of my toons, I can't play 8 hrs a day anymore; work, family, life takes its toll and some weeks you just can't find time to log in.

If you mean when my toon gets mob crit 4 times in a row then dies, yes, on 2 occasions.

The main issue is that after receiving the buff you just want to xp for 12 hours interrupted which means no Oly participation, no clan events, etc. Also you lose it when changing from sub to main. My suggestion would be change the birthday "buff" to a birthday talisman that can be equipped/unequipped as needed so everyone can get the full use out of it. The talisman can be automatically placed in our warehouse so no one loses it because of real-life events.
Super ed about leaving the open beta players out... that's a low blow from a 5 year paying customer. Huge deal when I didn't get mine until after the game had lost a ton of players and is barely even worth logging into anymore

an agathion is a REALLY good idea too, esp if it just appears in wh on your bday.
That thing could last forever if you wanted it to. When I had my buff a friend poled green with his titan and I would stay logged out until he got the train to our spot, then i log in and get into party to get the xp then log out again.
Took me a week or so to get rid of it, and I kinda got tired of logging in and out so I finished the buff up just staying logged in. Just think if you did that with an agathion lol.
if u take the b-day buff and go to change into any sub or from sub change to main,the buff dissapeared.

1.) I like the vitality boost it gives character's very much. It allows me to grind for a little longer than I would usually do, as mostly I try to conserve my Vitality for maximum experience gain.
2.)In a way. But it's too easy to lose. On the characters I received it so far, they all were killed by mobs and thus lost the buff before while they stil had 8 or so hours left. Plus it's rather annoying that you have to log in on the birthday or you are unable to receive it. It would be nice if it was, like other people have said, a Talisman that would automatically be put in your character's warehouse that you could take out and use whenever you wanted and thus not run the risk of losing the buff.
3.) I have gotten it on four characters so far, but wasn't really able to utilize it on the first character because she received it during the Valentine's Event. The others I have used it on and it as greatly helped me level characters I've left on the back-burner, at least until the mobs killed them. The fourth toon still has it and I haven't had a chance to really use it yet. I still have two other alts that have yet to get it.

5.) Yes, three times so far, I died by mobs because I was careless or surprised, or in one case because the healer didn't heal me in time, and I didn't think to ask clan members to give me Noblesse Blessing, or was unable to get Noblesse Blessing from clan members.
Very nice Idea to divide the buff into 12 1-hour use buff potions ... or at least 10 ^^
Revita pops would work great too! But once you used them your vitality decreased. Nice thing about the birthday buff is that is stays at vita4 which is amazing.
We've been getting intermittent feedback regarding the Birthday Buff and would like to give you an official capacity to collect your thoughts and share with us.

"change the birthday buff to a shadow item (talisman or Agathion) that can be equipped/unequipped as needed so everyone can get the full use out of it.
The item should be automatically placed in character's warehouse on birthday, so no one loses it because of real-life events."

+1 for this idea. Like this you can use it on subs also and you can unequipped it when you want to participate at other events (TW, Siege, Raids).
I was one of the few who seems to lose the buff for no reason. I got it before I went to bed, Logged in the next day and crit errored. That caused the buff to disappear. Petitioned and got a GM to give me the buff again. Switched toons and then back, again, crit error and I lost the buff.
After that I gave up. I suppose I could have gotten the GM to give it to me again, but I forseen a infinite loop progression anyways, so why bother.
- it restricts you in what you can do as long as you have the buff. For example, you cannot change to a different class (sub/main) without losing the buff. So you cannot e.g. Use 6 hours of the buff on the main and 6 hours on a sub, you have to decide on the class you want to use the buff on before you get it.
- it is too easy to lose the buff. Sure, noble buff prevents you from losing it on death. But there are by now too many buff cancel effects in game (hero cancel pole, cancel pvp augmentation on daggers/fists, cancel nuker skill) and a lot of people think it is immensely funny to try and make everybody they see with the bday buff lose it, just because they get a kick out of griefing others. You are pretty much forced to always have a bsoe handy, and when you see a glowy guy with a pole running towards you or anybody else who might be able to cancel your buffs, bsoe back to town. That is pretty annoying and makes the whole birthday buff a lot less enjoyable.
So i would suggest to change the birthday buff into something like the eva's rune. Either have the birthday npc give you a "birthday box" or just automatically put it into a character's warehouse on his birthday. When you right-click the box, you get a "birthday rune" in your inventory which starts ticking down as long as you are logged in. It gives you a passive skill with the same effect as the birthday buff. So you can choose when to use the buff (e.g. If your birthday happens to be on a siege day, you are not forced to stay away from the siege because you have the buff), and it also cannot be cancelled.

today, my irl wife had her birthday buff, so i pl'ed her bishop subclass from 67 to 76. 12 hours of intense grind. birthday buff is ok imo, but loosing it when changing subclass is bad

I had a lvl 52 TH with BD buff and noble/prophets buff. While hunting the Dagger Mastery skill poped up and overbuffed the noble buff. At some moment I died and all buffs gone. I still had like 11.5 hours left of it. ><
I petition and GM Jeff told me to visit l2.com and forums to learn about how game works.

Major flaw = u have to be home the day u have u'r birthday of
u'r toon, if u come home one second after midnight that day,
well no birthday gift then, it should be available one week at least!
Just like for a real birthday, it's not because the day has passed that
u cant get u'r presents from friends or family...
Second bad thing is that its a buff and u cant chose when or when not
to use it.
It would be much better if they were like vitality pops, so u can really pick
u'r moment to get it. Just like a real birhtday present u use it when u want.
and third but not least, it's only a vitality buff, ok vitality is nice but
for people who don't play more then 2 -3 hours a day, it's useless
so they really have nothing much of a present.
it be nicer if it would be a combo of this : vitality + COV
and make it stackable with real cov, everyone merits to feel overpowered

Yes and No. Since 40 rl hours of Vit 0 are an enormous boost (can do over 3 lvls at 8x with it) most clannies stop logging and wait to get it lvled :(

Missed the buff on my PP cause she got bday the day you implemeted the bday buffs. And as always when something gets implemented it doesnt work.

Myself not but a lot of clannies lost the buff due to crit errors. Official statement was: "its working as intended, you always lose buffs when you delog". The guys got like 5 Vit pops in the end what is just a slap in their faces..but I guess since GMs dont actually play LII theyd have no clue about that.

1st when I got it I went to exp and after 5min got critical error , when I logged back my character was dead... Yesterday I got 2nd buff and now I hope I will use it to the end.

Nope , its excatly 3 years when I made my character and only 2times we were able to get that buff.

Last years bday buff was removed due to ignoring anyone who created their account in open beta. Far bigger issue than what your question is which may affect a hand full of people.
Is that confirmed? With a Noblesse buff when you die, you don't lose it? I'm asking cause I'm getting my 1st bdbuff in this month, and has sometimes problems with disconnects in battle :P
And that idea with shadow item which we can equip and turn on bdbuff is really nice and big +1 on it. We can use it on main or subclass then :)

If you have noblesse buff you do not loose it if you die. I've gotten my second bday buff the other day and have died a few times (new hat pls? rly don't need 2 adventurers hats...), but thanks to noblesse still have the buff.

The 12 hour boost is fine.

No, the buff itself would be better served as 12, 1-hour buff pops or juices. That way, you can choose when to use it and you can use it on subs as well.

On one character out of four, I was able to use the entire buff.
