As we all know overenchanting is an unpredicted process and one should do it only if he can spare the money. We also know that the success rate for armor OE is 50%, thus explains the low rate of OE items. Recently I made a new sub and decided to supply him with good wapons and armors, sinsce I could afford it. The target was to make a +6 divine set and I started my attempts by doing a few tries on a daily basis. After a few days I managed to have 8 items (gloves and stockings) enchanted to +4. I decided to try enchanting all of them in the same day believing that this would produce at least 1 item at +6. The result is that I had 7 fails and 1 success (1 item made it to +5) but that also broke on the next try. This was an 8:1 success rate. I was really disappointed and my first thought was: "that was a really bad string of fails" and as we all know "sh... happens". But something was still bugging me. So I decided to take a closer look at the issue. The reason was that the impression I got was that getting a +3 item to +4 more or less follows the 50:50 success rule, but when the item is +4 or more the rate gets worse. That is against what NC says about this process (the success chances are always 50% for armor and 66% for weapon). So, my next OE attempt begun a few days later, after I made 10 items (again gloves and stockings) at +4. I initially tried to make everything from +4 to +5 and then from +5 to +6. The result was 7 fails/3 success from +4 to +5 and 2 fails/1 success from +5 to +6.
The pattern seemed to repeat itself. Instead of 50% success rate, I experienced a 20% rate (8:2) at my first attempt and a 30% rate at the second (9/4) when it comes to items already +4 or more. One might say: "Ohhh, you simply got unlucky, it is completely random" or "the sample you took is really small, you need to try it on 20 items to get results" etc. My response to both would be: "Maybe you are right, but I don't think so". After this experience, my belief is that armor items at +4 or more have less than 50% chance to go higher. Please, if you can afford it, make similar efforts. OE at least 10 items at +4 and record the success/fail ratio trying to go higher (without break). Maybe more results will be more conclusive.
PS1: I also made several attempts on weapons and the 66% rule seems to apply no matter the existing OE level
PS2: WTS C-crystals. Tons of them :)
There has already been an experiment by L2labs about this (L2labs=Korean NCSoft guys who answer player questions by conducting experiments on a test server, e.g. "let's do a couple hundred 60% crafts and see what the chance really is" and so on):
They did several rows of enchant attempts of 50 pieces of armor each, and the enchant rates they ended up with were:
+3 to +4: 66.67%
+4 to +5: 27.33%
+5 to +6: 28.67%
and for a one-piece armor (safe to enchant to +4):
+4 to +5: 71.33%
+5 to +6: 33.33%
So it's safe to say (even "official", if you want, since it was an experiment by NCSoft themselves) that the first non-safe armor enchant has the advertised 2/3 chance, while any further enchants have about a 1/3 chance.
Same story btw about mage weapon enchants - they have a far lower OE success rate than non-mage weapons (also L2labs experiment). The "always 2/3 success rate for OE" is simply not true, except for non-mage weapons and there also only up to +15. The good old OE rule "if you want a high+ mage weapon, enchant a melee weapon and then exchange at mammon" is true. And there is a reason why you do not see that many high+ A/S/S80 mage weapons.
Try enchanting skills at lvl 80 and failing going +1, 2, 4, 3, 4, 3, 3, 2, 1, 3. Welcome to Korean random enchant system, where numbers like 50 may be a little bit backwards.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I didn't know they already made such tests. Sadly, their results confirm mine (the figures are also very near). The difference of course is that their sample is much bigger than mine, so it is hard to question it by bringing randomness or size to the conversation. It seems that my initial feeling was correct and NC Soft misleads players with those announcments.
PS: I have also heard that mage weapons were harder to OE, but never really tried myself (on a big sample at least)
Weapons are supposed to have a 2/3 chance of success and armor 1/2.
What do you mean "supposed to?" None of that has ever been quoted by NC soft anywhere; it was a general assumption. What you have above are hard facts end of story.

If you notice the message in the welcome login screen, you will often see it written. So yes, it is hard facts from NC itself.
Yes because as we all know the translations are verbatim 100% of the time. Stop being so naive. All you have to do is take 10 pieces of D armor and enchant them to +4. Youll succedd the majority of the time. Next take them and try to +5. Youll be lucky if you succeed once. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize the success rate is not static. So again you can be naive and follow some bs text, or you can follow facts. Either way you have both sides so no reason to continue the thread.

No kidding captain statistics. You can text 10 10,000 times if you like to create a statistically significant sample size but i doubt you have the adena to do it, hence the dumbed down (oh well i guess the real test is correct) answer.
My point is we know the data NC gives is incorrect. It always has been. You have can only trust the facts presented by players who have tested. Im not quite sure why there is a qq post about this. Whaa i cant OE armor to +6 its too hard because some random text says i should have a 28.74% chance when in fact i only have a 5% chance. Deal with it and move on. If it were easy there would be no point in giving a bonus to a +6 set because everyone would have one.
And an added gem courtesy of chris farley in tommy boy:
I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's , but I'd rather take a er's word for it.
Trust the facts above stop trying to prove something thats already been proven. You are wasting your own time and money.
Fine,
I did my A armor set a loooong time ago
My Helmet went +6 in one try.
My robe in two tries
Now my slippers, it took me over 10 tries (ie: sets) to do it.
Now another peep in same clan had his slippers go in 5 sets but could not get the helmet to go forever. We even talked about switching stuff just so we could both get a full set of plus 6's.
NcSoft has NO reason to lie about this stuff, and it has been the same stated stats since day one of live server.
They may not know or they may hide certain facts, but they do not Lie.
Just because we dont' see it in our little world does not make it a lie.

It's not necessarily a lie. For example, do you remember the wrong information on S80 items crystal counts that was kept for a while on lineage2.com website?
Korean Random is like magic. It works when you don't pay attention. If you focus, it fails. Also don't pass under a black cat. Nasty stuff.
That's true. If you enchant something you REALLY want to succeed, it fails. If on the other hand you think "I'm bored, I just enchant this D grade weapon and see where it goes", it will succeed. As if some GM is watching you and having his fun.
Not a large enough sample at all.
well if it means anything ive been try to make a theca LA gaiters +6 for a while now ive failed trying to push one to +6 11 times now FOR ONE FREAKING +6 PEICE JUST ONE NOT EVEN A SET. 11 FAILS FOR 1 AND STILL AHVENT EVEN SUCEEDED YET
you guys need to try harder .. I already made me all of the worthy armor sets available from the shops +6. them being Brig, PL, Avadon heavy (sold it already though), avadon robe, avadon light, zubei heavy, zubei light. Currently trying to do banana +6, apparently not hard enough...
I have logged most of this (the numbers at which they all broke) and did the math. if I remember correctly it's about 70% for +3->+4, 1/3 for +4->+5 and 1/4 for +5->+6. actual statistical numbers will slightly differ of course, these are just estimations/wild guesses.
