I give the game 3 months top, and then boom its over

Why you ask, well Freya is supposed to be a major update, and it looks like good things are coming, which sound contradictory. But now, there are something things that are gonna obsolete other classes, and make some classes even more powerful. Tanks, over the top, kamael, over the top. Yet nothing has been said to even the playing field, and I for one see no reason to stay in the game.

-A,B,C markets are dead, yes you read right, they are dead. Cant sell anything to anyone, and the legits are finally catching up to the not so legits.

-Finding a clan w/o bots or without emoraging leaders has been pretty difficult to find.

-The few friends a person has in the game will quit, making that person leave the game.

-Merging is a last resort, but maybe its on the horizon. "Yay more non-legits to compete with"

-And L"Oly" is a joke for most classes, which I personally thought should be the funnest part of the competitive game Lineage II should offer. However, many classes have a hard time surviving even one hit at lvl 78. And yes I've been playing for two years. "Forgive me for making an archer two years ago" Doing 0 damage to 84 BDs is nice let me tell ya.
Every single time I go into Oly, I get a glowy toon, or someone over 80, with they're nice +12 dynasty weapons. And I love when I get a dagger who uses hide, I use detect, and am dead before its even casted.

Anyways, Im looking forward to the Freya update, gonna be real nice. Summoners using two summons, Daggers casting shadows of themselves who deal damage, Nukers casting two nukes at the same time. Double up everything, and what do archers get. "Sniper Stance". Oh wait, dont Hawkeyes already have that.

Thats my rant, im sick of typing.
Doom and Gloom predictions hit before each expansion. How about letting the actual PTS hit before making judgments? Oh and it's a game, so if you're that unhappy then you should really find something else to do with your free time.
Archers with their Drac bows had their glory days. Let some other classes have some fun now ;)
it'll stop'em picking on the wee-man...

try playing a dwarf
I give this thread 3 months tops, then it will be forgotten and ridiculed enough.
Play a dwarf, then complain. Seriously.
Who would be stupid enough to play a ws crafter alt as main?
You was crying also from 1st beta test server untill INT when all handless pew pew archers pressed f1 and 1 shoot every robe that was around?
Becides archers that really know how to play still have good chance to deal some serious damage if they don't use only f1 button.
Try make a party with AL and trickster sometimes, specialy those HE with enchanter snipe running around are a big lie.:p
servers are dead, need merge, blah blah.

Teons not Dead... just because your server only has 5 sell shops in giran doesnt mean Lineage 2 is dead. try logging on another server some time.
Play a dwarf, then complain. Seriously.

I have two dwarfs, a 70 WS sitting in giran selling nothing, because the A market is dead, and even S mats dont sell now.

Second dwarf I have is a fortune seeker 76, and the mats she spoils are still a grade garbage mats. The only thing that sells now is Dynasty , and noobies that join this game have NO CHANCE at making real cash to compete with others.
excuse me? we have noobies (joined 3 months ago) that can make 40-50 mill every 4 weeks just by doing tw's with us..... trust me its not hard for noobs to make money... they just dont realize that it takes abit of time.

also yesterday i made 3 mil making shots took 15 min each 100k to craft, and sold em at 10a profit and sold 300k yesterday.... noobs can make cash for a grade... s grade its a little tougher though lol
and what do archers get. "Sniper Stance". Oh wait, dont Hawkeyes already have that.

but with Snipe and this snipe I can shoot myself in the bum.

But I have a question how can you ask why you do die so fast in oly when you are only 78 ?
Archers suck indeed in oly, but they do have a fair chance agianst nukers, buffers, healers , summoners, SwM and SD if they are in your lvl range :P

Pray for stun.
Can we just LOL at the guy who leveled a HE two years ago because it was the OP class of the moment and now he's wondering why his class got nerfed?

Live in the now, roll a TH/zerker. Or just wait in the queue behind nukers who cried and were doom harbingers when sleep got nerfed. It was supposed to be the end of L2.
Can we just LOL at the guy who leveled a HE two years ago because it was the OP class of the moment

Two years ago archers weren't overpowered. Archers were overpowered between C5 - interlude ---> 3-4 years ago.
It is beyond my imagination why people still QQ about this... oh wait, maybe those who QQ about archers are those who go pvp unbuffed in DC robe - against such target archer is overpowered even today, and even more than it was in C5.
get some lvl's ,enchant your stun and other passives.

for oly:

u have no chances until u lvl up...but

take an AS pvp for cancel buffs,so maybe u can win a bd(but which bd sign open?lol)

for dagger:have ever try to see what the next target button do?try to spam next target and attack when u are vs a dagger with hide...u should be suprised oO.

dont cry about archers,u make this caracter for only purpose to have an advantage in pvp/pve as it was before 2 years,u can pve and pvp prety well now also.

try find proper buffs/debuffs,and try to dont target bd's/tanks in pvp :)
He realy wonder why he does low dmg with lvl 78 vs a lvl 84 BD? with Deflect arrow and -90% Archer damage Dance? In a hvy armor? with 6 lvl difference?
I've helped one person that is new to the game make money and he started not even a month ago. I've raised up 4 lowbie toons and have gotten 30m in under 2 weeks with no help from my main. And when I said play a dwarf, I meant actually play a dwarf, not level something when you're bored and that's the only class you had left. If you can't make money, you're doing something wrong.
imo man, get least 2 more lvs (if u r only lv 78), so u can use dyna set, do oly in clan event and then u can actually win some matches; also, be sure u use some talismans.
on my 1st oly matches, after i just got noble, i was like one hit several matches; i do get one hit now too, but not all the time.
patience is the key :p
p.s. never expect to win against a tank imo, and w8 till the dance/song against archer wears off; if you're archer, u can kite. just some tips :)

I've been crit by a stacked archer for over 8k with chant of protection and full buffs in Arcana Robes (don't think I had windstorm, but I had pretty much everything else). They are still very powerful if they stack an attribute for which you have little or no resist.

Transfer Pain didn't even matter. The hit was so big, it skipped TP and 1 shot me.

I used to have the fraps of that seige, too bad I reformatted my computer without taking backups of all that stuff.

They didn't put Chant of Protection, Wind Storm, Blade Storm in the game for nothing. And then they even added Crit Rate Reduction to an Overlord buff after all that.

Archers are not in C5/IL mode anymore, but they're certainly not gimped the way the crybabies on this forum would have you believe.

The sad thing, is that you think making 10-12M a week is a lot of money, when a toon can get to S Grade in 5-6 weeks...

That's chump change, and it won't help them gear their characters up in any decent way, Even if we assume they make another 100M on the side to compliment that.

Then there's subs, etc.

Yeah! Thats a great idea, start all over from the beginning, and "roll" a Dagger or Berserker Class as a main. Play legit for two more years, come back and realize that oops, they nerfed Daggers and Kamaels too. Im not wasting another two years of my life just to be disapointed in the end. The dev's of this game are too one sided, and biased in class balance. I'll personally go up to Freya, and if its garbage as an update, most likely give my stuff to my bud's in game, and drop this fiasco. But thanks for the tip.
They won't nerf Kamaels, and with vit, if you CAN'T hit S grade in a couple months, then again...you're doing something wrong.

That's literally just by doing TW. lol

Think about it, why would I waste more time on leveling another class? Starting over on a toon that I originally didn't want to play when I began playing this game is preposterous. As like a friend of mine said in game, "they made a mistake of making a GOD class in the game".

The point of not hitting s grade in a couple more months, again, why the hell waste more time developing a character, and go back to the prehistoric grind on a new toon. Thats more boring than entertaining. My current toon has 2 subs, a Glady 76, and a Plains Walker 64 for KE farming.

My original point, is that by destroying particular classes in the game, they dishearten people into quitting the game altogether. Just by the fact that its too one sided in class balance. Money is one issue, however, with so few new players entering the community, its become almost impossible to sell A grade mats, or even S grade mats. When the market is failing in the game, it makes it harder on people to earn money. Regardless of how much work they put into spoiling the stuff.

I take a my Fortune Seeker out to spoil those mats, and it becomes a total waste of time, because no one will buy the mats.
moral of the story dont roll fotm classes like archer...
They won't nerf Kamaels, and with vit, if you CAN'T hit S grade in a couple months, then again...you're doing something wrong.
It was possible to hit S Grade in a couple months even before Vitality. Vitality actually doesn't add much to the XP bar of a player with decent playtimes, cause it never goes above level 2, anyways.

76 is a low level. The grind in L2 is largely backloaded. It doesn't actually start feeling grindy until 77 or so. Up until then, you can get like 0.01-0.06% per MOB (in the 7x levels), which is a fast XP rate.

That's literally just by doing TW. lol
Yes, they make 50M per TW, and they're S Grade in a couple Months. That's 200M Adena, and that won't even buy a new player S Grade gear.

It's terrible, even if it's just from TW. Even if they get anotehr 200M from leveling, etc. they'll still be gimping for a while.

400M Adena is not a lot of Adena. 50M is only a nice chunk of change after you have everything you need at S Grade. Yes, if I make 50M in a TW, I'd be giddy, because my character doesn't have to buy 800M-1B+ worth of S Grade Equipment/Stones to gear up to it's grade...

And, of course, the prices for somethings have dropped tremendously in the past year. You wouldn't be so happy about 50M from a TW if you had to pay 60M for Divine/Dark Stones like some of us had to... Or had to get an Arcana Mace on a server when they were selling for 350M (and the SA Stone was like 150M, and the S Gems to put it on were like 85M total, not to mention the other stuff (the AA, etc.)). And Arcana Sets were like 600-900M Adena after the Attribute System was put in game.

Yes, new players have it much easier these days. Unfortunately, the game is dead for all intents and purposes compared to Gracia-HB times, and especially compared to C5-Interlude.
Haven't really played in a long while, so whats TW?

Speaking from other games, the biggest obstacle with L2 is still that its an endless grind, an easier grind nowadays, but a grind nonetheless.

qft!!! no one reads your website anyway
Hmmm. I am guessing maybe Lord should get the writers of the L2 team, if there are any left to write a description of what the TW's are. The website is way to out of date as it currently stands.
To the OP: I remember folks saying that L2 had three months to live Six Years Ago!!

They were wrong then and you are wrong now.

And others will say the same thing six years from now and they will again be wrong.
IMHO ... NC wanted everyone to go to Aion then they realized they were the producer and developer of Aion also then decided it against it ... Server Merges plix

TW = Territory Wars. Small world-wide seiges, for the most part.

The grind is shorter (can't really say it was ever difficult :P), but it's still unreasonable for the majority of MMORPG players.

Server mergers are needed, though. I find it comical that people are against them, given the state of the game.

Some people need to realize that an MMORPG dying doesn't = it disappears. A Dead MMORPG is an MMORPG that doesn't have the population to sustained the type of in-game environment it was balanced for; one one where the developer resources are almost nil.

DAoC was dead for years, but you could still subscribe to it and play. The fact that it was still running, doesn't make it a mainstream MMORPG (L2 is not mainstream).

All you people telling NCSoft to have more events and do this or that to attract new players are delusional. It's too late for all that. The best thing they can do is consolidate the servers and do what they need to retain what customers they have and attract former players back (and the few new subscribers who are masochistic to play this game).

If they don't merge, a ton of people will quit because their servers are empty and they don't feel like paying $50 (a high cost, compared to other games) for a server xfer.

Seriously, would you rather have 8 servers with 500-800 active/live players on them, or 4 servers with 1-2k live players on them?

It's a win-win situation for both the game producers (less GMs needed, less hardware needed, less maintenance needed after the merge) and the players (more people to play with, a more balanced/as intended gaming environment).

Ill change the title, I should have said its over for me, and my quitting will lead to others quitting. And if you really think this game has 6 more years, think again. The only online multi-player game to pull that off is Unreal Tournament. And thats only because they let the gamers develop mods, and customize the game to they're liking.

Don't get me wrong here, I really want the game to survive, but so far all I've seen is the game going down hill in these two years. Thank you for your input, its appreciated.

+1 all of this.

but being the pessimist I've learned to be from experiencing how disconnected NCsoft management is from this game, I don't expect merges anytime soon and we still have no real idea when the next update will be, so don't count on that either. besides the fact they can still make more money off people transferring. we don't pay them to merge servers, but we do still pay them to transfer off the dead servers. and yea not everyone will cough up the money to transfer, many will just quit.

I heard they won't merge NA servers till after the 2nd freya update which could be over a year from now... NA L2 will be extremely low activity by then, essentially already quite dead. and just like actually finally banning bots that they do now, merging servers a year from now will be much too little much too late. RIP L2

Going by your forum join date, you started playing right when L2 started to die out. The game peaked around C5 or so, which was late 06/early 07. Since then, more people have been quitting than joining (the ratio being wildly imbalanced in favor of quitters). People say this every year when these threads are made:

The sad truth is simply PvP MMORPG games don't tend to last as long as the PvE MMORPGs (EverQuest 11 years old still going, for example) because developers simply suck at designing and balancing PvP games.

I'm sure we all like this game, but you'd have to be blind to deny the fact that the PvP in this game is just terrible. That's literally the only thing the game had going for it, TBH. Why play 3-30 second Olympiad matches and deal with the imbalanced world PvP when you can go raid in WoW and play epic arena matches which actually take skill and coordination?

That's a trivial decision for most people.

WoW take skill and coordination...that made my Day :D The game where 4 people finish a Raidboss Instance....yeah "you 2 go to the left, we go to the right!"

I know a game thats going on way longer then Everquest, but going on doesnt mean its realy alive.
Ultima Online is 12 years old and still developped. According to experts, it died 12 years ago of course.
Why L2 shouldn't live 6 more years? It won't be the same game, things change, but L2 has the bases to last.

WoW takes skill now? I guess thats why all the 12 year olds play it...
Who would be stupid enough to play a ws crafter alt as main?Seeing a WS around doesn't directly mean it's an alt of someone...
Still lots of ppl around that play a WS as main, don't see the problem really.

<3 to the dwarves
i agree just because its a "dead" game doesnt mean its not worth playing.

For u maybe and thats fine. For me id play if i was the only one on the server lol. I look at it this way the deader it is , the better chance i have to compete... who knows maybe ill get hero by the next century? lolololol

It's a joke with Flipsy, hero Maestro on Phoenix, in spite of massive enemy fail-feed.
My first day in game was back in first few days of C5, half the people i met asked me why i came to that dying game ROFL

L2 ain't dead ain't dying yet
Runescape4life!

I'm playing Cabal mostly now, games you don't have to pay for = teh winz

WoW Arenas take skill and coordination.

Please learn to read before making yourselves look like utter idiots.

I want to see 4 people do ICC. No one cares that 4 level 80 characters can do a level 60 raid instance in WoW. 5 Man instances aren't Raid boss instances. You can actually do those with 3 people, or even 2 if your gear is good enough. So what. People solo raid bosses in L2, or kill them with 1 DD and boxed buffers... The PvE in this game is a joke and the backloaded grind is there to give players the illusion of "challenge."

You can't even compare WoW raiding to L2 Raiding. It's a complete blowout. That's actually disingenuous to WoW, even though WoW raiding is a lot more carebear that what I experienced in EQ (Vex Thal, Tacvi, Citadel of Anguish, etc. were a marvel of diversity and innovation).

WoW raiding would be funner, and perhaps more challenging, if add-ons like Deadly Boss MODs, ORA, etc. didn't exist. They completely trivialize the content for most guilds/people doing it, enough that you can't even get in a raiding guild if you don't have them. No one said raiding was hard/challenging when you have an add-on walking you through it.

And I'm better you guys have never done any 25M hard mode content there, anyways...

As far as a game going on longer than EQ, it can't be alive because EQ was the first mainstream/commercially successful MMORPG. If it existed before EQ, it was probably a failure, anyways.

I've already said that dead games keep running as long as the number of subscribers makes it financially profitable for the company running it. Again, learn to read.
Seems to me that if a game has enough subscribers to make it profitable then the game isn't dead. Therefore your whole point that L2 is 'dead' is dead wrong.
As far as a game going on longer than EQ, it can't be alive because EQ was the first mainstream/commercially successful MMORPG. If it existed before EQ, it was probably a failure, anyways.

Yeah Ultima Online would be one that is older then EQ. Don't know how successful it still is.

The other that has been around longer, is still around, and was way more successful then EQ is L1.

Ultima Online - Released Sept. 25, 1997 - Max Subscribers - 250,000
EQ - Released March 16, 1999 - Max Subscribers - 450,000

Lineage 1 - Released Sept. 3, 1998 - Max Subscribers - 3 million.
I doubt Lineage had 3 mil people subscribed at once. They fudge the numbers for that game the same way they fudge them for L2.

If that was the case, I probably would have kept playing it, since I trialed it at the same time I trialed EQ when I was getting into MMORPG gaming back in the day.

Or maybe not, since it looked like Diablo, which was not acceptable for me back then :P

QFT. I'd like to see anyone that says WoW raids (real raids, ICC 10 or 25 etc) are easy actually try a few. As in play it, not watch a video. (my armory if anyone cares (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Whisperwind&cn=Silverveil)) I don't believe L2 has anything even remotely close to being as complicated.

There's always these fail threads going on since the beginning of time, but having recently tried to level up a noob or two as a test I can see why people really don't want to play it. Unless you catch a good group of people, I imagine the majority of people quit well before level 30.
Hey why you picking on my buddy Flipsy?

Flipsy aint your buddy, buddy.

Now step away.
Don't get me wrong here guys, I really want the game to go further, in fact I like the game a lot, otherwise I wouldn't have manually leveled 2 toons to 78, and 1 other to 76 and 4 more toons to 70+.

I read Ellie's whole post on her new human mage she made on teon ect. Good job with that, but I did sense quite a bit of frustration that she went through just to get to level 40. Most people when they try out a game for the first time, they are trying to find out if they like it enough to stay with it. If Ellie didn't get help from a clan, there would be even more frustration. And considering the fact that Ellie is a Veteran Lineage II player, with tons of knowledge, you have to weigh it against what an actual new player would have to go through. They would have absolute zero knowledge of the game, thus making it even more difficult for them to bear.

Would that new player be willing to put up with tons of frustration? Maybe. Would they be able to find a clan? Sure. It may be hard for them up till around they're 40-60's levels. But I still think most people looking for a good time would open the game up, and look around, then realize its almost an empty server. And those that are looking for the multi-player aspect of the game might be shy'ed off the server before they even begin to play it.
"I'm talking about completely new people who have absolutely zero experience with Lineage II."

I keep wondering to myself, why the Lineage II NA team keeps changing its staff? The changed are constant. Almost every couple of months they are changing key staff members. Why is that? Could it be because they are losing the fan base, and are trying to find people who can retain those fans? Just a guess here, but you never know. Lyzira had to be one of my favorite's, she actually posted more than the other staff members.

Even if archers are the "QQ" class of this Chronicle, I'll probably stick with it for a little while longer. But if nothing new comes to help those poor "QQ" archers, then I personally have no reason to stick around, even though those who do not have an archer as a main will.

Again, I appreciate all the replies.
you can't complain about being an archer. titans have been nerfed so many times i can't count. please tell me what freya has to offer for titans!? nothing except more people want to party with me for xp.
game over, i am plaing on official server one year (at luna) now is on our server one uber botted clan with owned WB,etc. since start of server. when i have lvl 52 there was fun, now it is graveyard... NC dont do anything agains botters and people are quiting realy fast, there was 4 or more legit clans and now are activ only 2. i am giving NC one month. this isnt game but terrible thing. it needs SUPPORT and event.
To review, if I had been REALLY new, I would have likely given up when I was doing the Spirit of Mirrors quest, when it said to talk to the guards to find out where they were, and the guards said nothing of the sort. And the quest didn't point to them. After that I would have very likely quit after finding out quests were more or less a complete waste of time, finding out loot isn't shared fairly in raids/kamas, and that I didn't have enough to even buy a top NG weapon at 30. If you have the adena, you really can't understand how frustrating it is to blow 1k shots at raids or a kama and get NOTHING out of it, besides exp. Then you are just higher level and even more broke. Oh and don't even say to not use shots, you couldn't get away with that past C2 much less 4+ years later.

The newbie guides should really be giving out top NG weapons, that are not shadow versions. The master of each class should exchange all newbie shots for D grade after 20 and give a real D grade weapon. If someone is kind enough to run the academy quests for someone, clan oath should be FREE. That came out in C5, give it up already.

Had I been left to my own devices I would have struggled to 30, maybe, in NG, ran out of shadow weapons shortly after, and found myself with maybe enough money to buy mid NG, and lol at trying to exp with that. And let's be honest, don't even start with that "level a dwarf for money" . That's boring and not fun. Finding out you have to level a toon just to finance another is bullcrap.

The kamael have it better by getting twice as much adena up to 20, a full set of gear and anyone with half a brain can pick up full jewels at the starter area. Even that could be boosted though. And yeah yeah I know, anyone can do that kamael armor quest, but it leaves out mage classes who have no business being in light armor.

I'm still stuck in Ant Nest yo!
Flipsy aint your buddy, buddy.

Now step away.

rawr, i like it when you fight for me, Smittie LOL

WoW takes skill and coordination? So THAT'S why my 53 UD rogue destroyed a 10 year old that was playing a 70 Draenei Paladin twice. Because any level capped toon on that game must mean ppl have skill, right?
You may want to study the results of an experiment Ellie recently conducted on Bartz:

Even on a so-called "dead server" there are people around who actually play the game in the way the developers had intended, and they are having fun while doing so :)

This game won't die for a long time to come, not even in the West :)

That was awesome! Thanks for the link.

Do you think that because you knew the game that your experiece was tanted from the start?

Not fighting, but I agree with you on your forum when you say that there are a million other things you would do besides doing the class change quests. I am the same way, except for the first time I did them, I really did enjoy them - but the fun factor got old very very fast.

Clearly you never did the Scavvy or Bounty Hunter class change quests pre-Gracia...

I still have nightmares regarding finding Master Toma.

Not exactly. I'd say playing WoW has tainted it more than anything. Gaining 20, 30, 40 levels and being dead broke, finding questing is worthless and not even fun, earning next to no drops or money and being sadly and miserably behind in weapons and gear is not a good time to me.

As far as the class change quests, some years back I wrote up a little l2 diary kind of thing where I described the class changed when I ran them in C1 on my bishop. I was NOT at all liking them even back then so it's not like it's gotten any better or worse over time. The only one I sort of enjoyed was Trial of Duty. And yes I've done every single class change, at least twice, in various chronicles.
Looking for quest in L2 is like looking for pole parties in WoW. It's just an attitude that MMO players should modify : stop looking for what there was in your previous game in the next one. I know it's a reflexe to compare all the MMOs with your first one, but if you think twice you can let the next one its chance without expecting that common feature from the previous one.
MMOs are similar enough like that.

As I started with Ultima Online, should I ask how I can raise the skills I want in L2 and groan when told it works with a general level and a defined class? That would have no sense. Should I say "huh, there's no looting container? it's stupid, everybody's gonna grief one another on loots!" when clearly it's not a problem in L2?
There's a moment you must stop standardizing what you expect from a MMO. Tons of stupid quests (fedex or bash) giving all your stuff on a silver plate aren't the fundation of a MMO. That works for some of them, others work without.

Now that said, it's perfectly understandable that the fact that any new player on L2 won't be able to understand where to find the new easy way to access higher content faster and cath up a bit with older players is totally awkward. Currently, the new ease only helps veterans' rerolls.
Currently, the new ease only helps veterans' rerolls.

I would say it probably also helps us newbies...
I didn't have much (hardly any) time to play since I created my toon but I found it rather easy to lvl to 31.

And the L2 official website is really very good in explaining things like class transfer, class attributes and the Seven Signs. And then there are the forums where people have been very helpful.
As a newbie and coming from Wow I was actually pleasantly surprised that that game is not as much of a "grind" as stated all the time. I realize that will change down the line but anyways, just thought I'd say that I found the content quite easy but I am still very low lvl.
I enjoy the Necropolis more than questing anyways, so that works well for me.

Well here's the thing though, I played L2 first, then played WoW. And now I really, REALLY cannot understand why anyone would want to run a quest that takes like an hour or more to gather items only to turn it in for 100 adena, or 10 SS (Gludin quest), or some random crappy junk you didn't even want (WoA quests) or have the items just blow up in your face one way or another (Oren quests, TOI quest, inferium ore, etc). Yeah I too was a sadist for like 5 years, now I don't know what I was thinking.

There's a fine line between "this is just how the game is" and "wow dude this really sucks". Then we also have the effort vs reward thing to weigh in on, is it worth running this quest? In most cases, and I've run nearly all of them, the answer is no, it's not. Yes, ok the veteran answer would be well, you have to do this boring grind ANYWAY so may as well pick up this cruddy quest. But looking at it like, what can I do that is fun and rewarding is big old fail time.

Oh and ha ha, thanks Anee, Lemm and I are on that team, we use to be in clans together on Kain/Aria, he made up that name XD
Believe me, back 5-6 years ago were the Ganking years. You could hardly step out of town without seeing at least 1-2 PK'ers out killing whoever they could.

2 things happened, which "fixed" that. First, people were semi pushed into clans in order to stay alive. Possibly one of the main reasons the L2 community is so strong. As the levels on the clan members increased, they were able to pretty much PK these "PK'ers" off the server, as everytime you die in L2, as you know you lose XP, and can delevel (fairly rare in MMO's) thus leaving the PK'ers that wanted to continue being at such a disadvantage they were little more then irritants.

Also the average toon is probably at least 75+ now, probably 80 would be my better guess. Losing XP at these levels stings a bit, so that deters people from going on a random killing spree, so the servers are in a way self policed now.

Now the PVP is usually for some reason/cause. Wars, Fights for XP spots, ect.
I want to respond to this first:

Coming from a WoW PvP server where "ganking" is the norm that was very refreshing
Do you really expect anyone who has played this game for a significant amount of time, and been in any type of serious war to take this seriously?

Seriously? God forbid you get ganked on an Open PvP server. Sounds like the carebear cries from the PvE kiddies who jumped on AoC thinking it would be a PvE happyland (on the PvP servers), Lol. Reroll Paladin and Bubble Hearth if you don't like getting ganked in WoW.

@ EllieBelly: I don't think lots of people understand where you are coming from, because most people on this forum are so deeply vested in L2 that they haven't really had the chance to play any other MMORPG games at a serious level.

and can delevel (fairly rare in MMO's)
EverQuest had XP loss on Death, as did other MMORPGs. The concept of deleveling is not new or innovative to L2, and it wasn't particularly rare to lose XP on death in Pre-WoW/EQ2 MMORPG games.

In EQ2, you didn't get a choice "go to town/Clan Hall/Castle." You got insta-zoned to your bind point (which was often not close, especially if you were running from Neriak to Crushbone), and had to run from your bind to your corpse and loot all your stuff of of it (or have a Necro summon it). If you didn't get there in time (some CRs would take hours), your corpse expired and all the stuff you had on you (i.e. your gear) got deleted.

Of course, they carebeared that down about 5-6 years after release, but that's the way it was for ages.

Necros also could kill themselves if they went AFK with Lich On (which drained HP like Arcane Power). There was no such thing as "your don't have enough HP, so the skill ended."

I think one of the main issues that made L2 unattractive to many people is the buff dependence. The grind is manageable, or at least it was up until around Gracia when top clan botting seemingly became the way to go, but being gimp without 15 buffs is just not an option for many people. EQ and WoW didn't function like that. DAoC did have issues with buff dependence (and buffbots), and that didn't get it too far. They had to open classic servers with mechanics that nerfed buffbots to keep lots of customers (and lot is only relative to their rediculously small playerbase).
Ok, didn't know that :)

Just seems everyone that I have tried talking into trying L2 throughout the years, who all play different MMORPG's have all looked at me in disgust when I mention the losing lvls possibility, so I figured it wasn't that common.

I will admit Ellie, that WoW armoury is the 1 thing I have wanted more then anything for L2. If they fixed the look, I would probably have gone in that direction a long time ago, as I think everyone of my IRL friends that play MMO's right now plays WoW. Haven't been able to convert a single one of them to L2.
An Armory for L2 would be useless because itemization in L2 is as barebones as it gets.

Also, this is a PvP game and no one wants to broadcast what kind of elements they have on their armor, what augmentations they have on their weapon/jewels, etc.

Being unpredictable is something that can help you in things like Olympiad.

Most of the people you'd want to look at would probably just log out naked, anyways, to prevent themselves from being "outed."

People, seriously, Olympiad IS a joke, you gotta give him that. I'm a lv 80 dwarf, if I got anything its lots and lots of HP and CP. Anyhow, I personally stopped to care after my oly fights started to look like this:
1st fight - a dagger IKed me from behind (12.000 damage)
2nd fight - a nuker IKed me from front (17.000 damage)
3rd fight - a titan IKed me too (16.000 damage)
can't touch a healer class, can't touch a kamael class, can't touch a tank class, can't touch a summoner class, can't touch barely anyone.

Why?

Bcoz only insanely strong highlevel/overequipped chars which I can never ever hope to beat do open oly. Every other char simply does class-based private oly where I cannot reach them. And thats it. Class-based oly messed up the entire oly completely. Always the same names, always the same 1 second fights, always the same amount of "fun". The present oly concept simply sucks donkey balls and that's a fact. Absolutely no fun at all for an average char.
Game dead since C2 IMHO! but whatever the drama is epic....so its still fun...what can I but be honest.../shugs
you can do oly, just need to pick and choose your days.
i did my 9 matches last month, it was even the last day...
out of 9 matches, i won 5, these were in open oly, and two of the losses were against Tank hero... ok, one of my wins was luck, and one of my losses was a complete failure on my part... but if you're smart about it, you can avoid top oly monsters 4/5 the time. now if you could only avoid the randoms with strong enough skills to kill you anyway...

+1, And if NC thinks that they gonna fix these ridiculous amounts of damage comming from some classes, just by lowering pvp element damage by about -25% in freya, they are wrong, not gonna make any difference at all for them, still gonna be 1 shot, 1 shot, 1 shot, 1 shot.... the only classes its gonna make a diff for, is all the already outbalanced classes like dwarf, ect.... their damage is just gonna be even lower.... its typical.
The problem doesn't come from elements, it comes from crits. By lowering elements, they are making us even more dependant on crits. Even out of oly it's the case : either you do normal hits and CP pots cover it, or you crit and there you remove enough HP to kill.
So of course classes which don't crit will do even worse.

Seriously, players hitting for more than an Epic RB didn't ring a bell to devs?

me comming from UltimaOnline, and there where no quest at all (back in the early years) .. and that was one thing i liked in L2 too .. "no quest path to follow" you could go anywhere and do anything and your choices what you do have consequences, a smal sandbox.
This game dosnt needed any npc-quest because its a much bigger quest to interact with other ppl. Sadly this concept (what made L2 diffrent to other mmorgs) fall more and more apart by the NC developers and the changes they made to the game and ofc it didnt help that the servers are so low populated nowerdays.
with every update devs add more dmg power to some classes, they add more skills and more ways to finish off the opponent in one hit, stacking crit multipliers, elemental atributes, high oe weapons that do insane dmg and all that. What they dont do, they never touch stats, from beggining every class/race in game has a static stats that cannot cover the dmg boost.

Look at it that way, mages top up with 4-5k HP, rogues/tanks with 5-6k HP and warriors with 8-13k hp and thiese values havent changed a bit for 5 years, yet 4 years ago two equally geared and lveled toons could never one hitted eachother. Same level and gear nuker and a dagger fight, it wasnt a who crits firtst contest, ppl tried tacttics, they run more, kite more, use all their arsenal of usefull skills, and yes if u got lucky u got a crit but that was just a lil help not the factor that decided who wins in first hit.

now look at some examples how this is all gimped now: NOTE just examples!
All toons same lv and gear grade and max buffs

Titan vs dagger fight one
first hit Titan looses all his 7-8k cp, second hit titan looses 11k of his 13k HP, titan wants to pop the frenzy, too bad another 12k hit, time of the fight: 3-4 sec

Titan vs Dagger fight two
Titan pre-frenzys and hits the dagger for 18K, time of the fight 1 sec
----------------
Dagger vs nuker fight one
Nuker hits dagger for 16k, time of fight 1 sec

Dagger vs nuker fight two
dagger backstabs nuker for 18k, time of fight one sec
-----------------

Now this is just example of how ridiculus dmg some classes can output. And put a dwarf to that, what can it do ? put a BD or SWS or a prophet ?

I UNDERSTAND that there is a reason why some classes are callled dmg dealers and some tanks and some support, but with the dmg output that some of them can inflict nowadays it all becames a headshot contest.
Well to me, nuker damage isnt all that "OMG it needs to be nerfed!", cus after all enlightenment only last like 15 sec., the issue here isnt enlightenment or nukers being OP, its the resetting of reuse time on skills in oly. (and yes, they should be reset like now).

Unlike titan and dagger who has permanent 1 shot damage..... well ok frenzy isnt permanent, but the time it last is enough to win oly, so its close to it.

Point:

Nuker = 15 secs of being able to 1 shot (not counting magic crits).

Titan = 90 secs of being able to 1 shot.

Dagger = Permanently able 1 shot, and with hide theres nothing u can do about it.
Clearly you never did the Scavvy or Bounty Hunter class change quests pre-Gracia...

I used to have toons logged in at each of the three spots...

:)

I hated that quest more than anything else in this game.
u wanna talk masochism...

28 toons, all quests done.

10 toons deleted all quests done.

helped others do quests probably 10-20 tmes.

i figure ive done em 50+ times and some o the quests i repeated probably 30+ times lol

and id still do em again and again lololol
stop talking and show us ur whip and chains ;)
WoW take skill and coordination...that made my Day :D The game where 4 people finish a Raidboss Instance....yeah "you 2 go to the left, we go to the right!"

I know a game thats going on way longer then Everquest, but going on doesnt mean its realy alive.

Compared to L2, raiding in WoW takes a great deal of skill. There is a reason experienced clans wipe time after time on the high level raids.

Fail more. None of that stuff is coming in the Freya update.

Rant fail.
i got only one question to add :

Whats the fun in killing a person in one hit ?
there's no tention , no excitement, its over in one second
u dint even put up a fight...

i still remember in the first days on talking island open Beta first day
it dint matter wich class u were u had equal force
if u were a healer/mage or a fighter/knight.

It did not matter . . .

Bring it back to that

put all the skills on the table
and compare them and then do this :

the ones comming out too weak u boost them to have same power
as all the others.

and the powerfull ones, leave them alone, no one is ever happy of getting nerfed!

Do that, and u got urself an exciting game again.

or a last resort suggestion, but really last resort one:
give every player, at lvl 76, the opportunity to steel one skill from anny
other class on their main class.
Fail more. None of that stuff is coming in the Freya update.

Rant fail.

The fail is yours. This stuff WILL NOT come in the Freya update. The Freya update is live right now in Korea, and they do not have these things on their servers.

What you linked to up there is what the devs plan to put into the next few updates after the Freya update.

Smittie and Varaya post count = real life fail

every community has to have a few forum warriors & trolls, that's just the way it is :P

anyways, back to the topic:

My clan, which has been the second clan with crest after the start of Luna, which has some history behind it and always has been legit has been falling apart the last few weeks. From 120 ppl in clan there are like 90 members left now, out of which like 30, maybe less, are actually active. All people who left scattered to other MMO's.

Why?

Bcoz the game sucks. I cannot even begin to compare how fun L2 was back in the days. What we play now is just a tiny fraction of the fun I used to have.
And bcoz of NC's policy. They don't care about us, that's why. Game totally unbalanced, bots have been tolerated like ever since, customer support = 0 (any question asked answered with a bot - ironic isn't it LOL, no update since Jesus walked the earth, completely ignoring 6th anniversary, failing at fixing trivial bugs like the legendary TW jewelry, etc), completely ignoring the state of L2 on Luna (400 online players on avg including private shops LOL), etc.
People simply drew a line where the game stops being fun and NC crossed it. And so they left, angry and disappointed. Please don't say that clans come and go, this clan had the strongest community on the server as almost all our members knew each other personally. But despite being friends, they simply refused to pay for something that pis*ed them off on a daily basis instead of being fun. And so all clan members (present and former) made an agreement and will be moving to Tera as soon as it starts, leaving this game to its own agony and vomit. Buuuut I am still continuing to pay though, I want to observe what's going to happen until then. Maybe (just maybe) NC realizes that crapping on their customers' heads isn't the way to improve the declining popularity of L2.

The Korean sources you give are mentioning the Awakening System under the headline "2010 Lineage preview (미리보기)". It is what will come later in 2010, on our servers probably early in 2011. Here is what I wrote on Ellie's site (I am Elmar):

Above the picture of the dual casting skill you can read "In the course of 2010, after the Freya update".

If you still have doubts, run the Taiwanese patch notes through Google Translator:
http://gametsg.yatta.com.tw/lineage2/index.php?view=article&articleid=31262

That is from May 26 and pretty close to what we will get. No Awakening System :p

Okay, now thats a very nice an forum-like reply about a conflicting point of view. Thats how this forum should be conducted, and people who come in here and spit a few lines of idiocy need permanent banning from these forums. Why the hell those people have that many posts on theses forums is beyond me. Not everyone is like that, but there are some people who could rebuttal my false facts with out calling me out.

Thanks for the correction Elmar, and could you give me any reasons as to why the dev's put these things into they're upcoming patch notes? Or is it something "they hope to implement" I keep getting the impression that the Freya is going to be in spurts, just like what they did with the Gracia expansion. It came in like 3 parts right? Gracia Update, Gracia part 2, then finally that last one Gracia Final. That might be why I put those quotes up there. And didn't Gracia's update process take like 6 months to finally get to the last part. If we're gonna get Freya around August, wont the other parts of ("Freya" unsure) come out in late 2010-2011? Thats why im under that impression, if im wrong im wrong.

This is my last post on these forums, its just not a level place to have discussion. Thank you for your oppinions, they are appreciated.
Saving face doesn't make you look any less like an eedeeot.

These forums have always been trash. You've been registered since Sept 08. You could have just saved yourself the time and not posted anything.

Who cares about an Awakening system? Game is beyond redemption, ATM. It's hard to get excited about anything, these days.

It's okay thought.... "Cataclysm will fix itâ„¢".

That's the only reason why I'm here... Waiting for Cata :P
I still have nightmares regarding finding Master Toma.hah! every scav/BH hates him i bet! and i hate his relative Mion too!
:D
It's always been great perspectives of fun when taking the 2nd class change quests and reading the title : Test of Extreme Annoyance.
... and could you give me any reasons as to why the dev's put these things into they're upcoming patch notes?

That's a good question. I have been wondering about that too. By making an announcement for something that far away, promising four updates for 2010, they risked losing face. And in fact they did lose face. Putting out an update is one thing, updating the company database (http://power.plaync.co.kr/lineage2) is a different thing. The latter took them far longer than anticipated. Since Korean players would not tolerate missing recipes on the official site, the strategists had to wait until that was all put in, and now they have run into the soccer worldcup, which they are afraid will steal all the attention.

"Freya" is something like "Interlude", some missing things that have been put in between "Episodes", as the Koreans call the Thrones. After Freya will come the next Episode, which we (Whip from Playforum.net and I) have for the time being called CT 3. The official name might be "Magmeld", from the new territory that will be added. This will come in spurts, CT 3.1, CT 3.2 etc.

Apart from the Awakening System we have so far only some concept art pictures of the new hunting grounds. You can have a look at those pictures and at the discussion about them here:

The sad thing, is that you think making 10-12M a week is a lot of money, when a toon can get to S Grade in 5-6 weeks...

That's chump change, and it won't help them gear their characters up in any decent way, Even if we assume they make another 100M on the side to compliment that.

Then there's subs, etc.

Not to mention, many clans have simply given up on taking many newbies on. The true new players might get picked up by some level 5 clan with 6 guys in it these days--and those guys aren't farming hundreds of millions in TW in the first place.

True uber clans don't generally take anyone who is under 79+ these days, and if you fail the "will you bot with us?" test, they won't even take you then--lol.

The biggest clans don't really need some newb who is level 12 and wants to know what class to play in open chat. If they want lowbies for CRP (for some reason) their own players can accomplish that faster than the newbie anyway.

If a newbie made 200 million in 8 weeks--they'd be SIGNIFICANTLY behind in the adena they needed for their current level. Most of them quit LONG before they have found a legit way to earn 50 million adena.

It's a ridiculous notion to suggest some guy is going to start playing L2 tomorrow and get picked up in a great clan and have 500,000,000 adena two months from now. Not going to happen. If somehow it DID happen, I'd actually have to be present to believe he didn't use a credit card to get the adena (lmao). Too, if somehow it did actually happen, he'd be the 1 out of 1000 newbies--the other 999 would quit at level 65 or so just like the last 1000 did.

They are playing PS3--not L2. Sorry.
~D~
Ellie you should hook me up, I'm thinking of giving WoW another shot. :o

Agreed. In my noob test, estimating no clan help at all, I've be very likely around level 35 (rather than 48) at 18 days, DEAD broke, in common D still, unable to afford even the basics. I ran into an exceptional group of people though so things went a lot more sunny. If left to my own devices I'd have given up already.

However I'm running a second test on another server and thus far at 27 things aren't as rosy. I'm in all common D, with about 150k to my name, have made 1 friend but no one has asked me to join a clan yet. In both tests I never asked for a clan I simply played like I didn't know any better. Drops/quest reward are non-existant for the most part and anything that does drop can only be NPC'd for pennies because there is no market for D/C anyway. And playing the market to make money requires at a minimum, enough funds to PLAY and a good working knowledge of what to buy low to resell high.

And should someone survive long enough to learn "how to play", I'm sure they would be dismayed at the advice such as, run everywhere don't port, don't use shots, and make another character which will blow for anything FUN, just to finance your first character.

I came here to get away from Wow....you guys are kinda making this hard....

At any rate it's the truth, at least what I'm writing about. I'd like it to be otherwise but currently that is the state of the game.
The state of the game is that the old content is old. Old quests aren't good and should be updated. But only really old players would go to DV instead of Pavel Ruins at lvl 48. You can dig deeper in the [not a nice thing but still polite], but that's becoming dishonest. My alts fill their inventory with lifestones 46, 49, 52, 55... is it because I'm veteran?

BTW L2 quests aren't : take a quest, look for mobs to fill it, get the reward then do the next quest. They are : you want to XP here? you take the quest tied to the area, kill the mobs and after your XP session, you give back the quest items and get a little bonus. Sometimes you don't stay in an area long enough for it to be worth taking the quest.
"OMG there's no quest how will I level?" is a WoW vision of MMOs where the quests do the thing and mobs are the bonus.

The proplem is that theres no balance between grind and quest. WoW is too much quest based and L2 is too much grind based. But the l2 way just makes things harder to a frustrating point some times since the quests that SHOULD complement the hard grind with money, gear, and all other sort of necessary things are USELESS most of the times untill you reach lvl 78.

I did lots of quests on l2 and i can count on fingers how many worth a try, most needs one or some times two low level completed quests as requirement that give you a lot of trouble and rewards.
Guys,

when those posts are made on korean forum,
it are still suggestions for not this chronicle,
not for the next;...
BUT for the one after that...

The translation is poor, that's just bad google or Bablephish...

In french korean translates much better
so if u can read french

go translate those pages in french and u'll understand like 20 % more
Imho, you can't truly compare a Korean (grind) mmorpg with a US (quests) mmorpg.....

L2's longivity is for certain ppl, WoW's quick-to-endgame is for certain ppl, just not the same.

Inspired by your test, I am also running one of my own. I am recreating what I did, oh so long ago, and seeing if it works out as well as it did back in the day.

I have considerably more adena than you, but I am not really playing the "total noob". I started out on a dorf Artisan (TabbiMae) the first time around and my new Arty is level 22 with about a million adena and all common D grade stuff except weapons because she is still using up the shadow weapons.

I have met no live players and, of course, have not been invited to a clan. I am on the highest population server, which is certainly not the server my main is on.

curious where you leveled/farmed. comming back to the game after a year i had to lvl up some new toons and found that farming AA is very lucrative. with all the endgame players generally being to high to lvl in the catas, you can do pretty good running the AA market. ive found that selling AA at the market value can net you moderate money, but you will never sellout, because most of your customers buy your AA for some sort of quick fix. brez and s gems are very lcurative and you can generally sell a tad bit higher than the market value of AA. reason being is people would spend more than that porting around looking for the MOM themselves. for my toons, they were able to stay in TOP gear until A grade, where i had problems some problems. that is mainly because of availability of A grade gear in general.

Nice, GL with that, if you write something up link me to it I'd like to see. If you make friends enough to distract you from the grind it's it's not too bad, but solo... I'd rather be infected with pin worms ><
oh well, I am very new here, so no, not expecting anybody to take this "seriously" really.

And yes, I was happy they didn't kill my wolf I had outside a room, don't even know if they could have, doesn't really matter.

I never liked the Wow PvP server I was on but I made friends there and stayed, so that's that.

Edit: I also wanted to add that I am trying to get away from WoW here.....
I was taking a break to finish my degree - since WoW is an unparalleled time sink for me - and I dabbled in other games a bit while on WoW break.
I like L2, especially the character model graphics, but this thread is starting to make me wonder if I am not wasting my time, L2 veterans now playing WoW and the kinda elitist answer above, maybe it's just too late to start L2 as a newbie in NA now....

I believe L2 is still worth playing for new players, but only if your expectations are LOW... you will NOT be able to compete with end game pvpers in any way unless you cheat A LOT. If you chose to play legit, stay in neutral clan and do whatever you want however, it's probably still ok. If you are a support class you may even be able to get into an endgame clan at 78+, but don't expect a lot of help leveling so sometimes it's easier to stay in neutral clan and xp till 80+ then go try pvp if neutral clan is too boring.

Oh and be sure to ask for a clan here and in game, be a pest, it's ok.

Game dead since C2 IMHO! but whatever the drama is epic....so its still fun...what can I but be honest.../shugs

um yea there's still so much drama in my clan on a daily basis I'm exhausted from it... (never mind that I started some of it :P )

when bored, start drama.

No it's because C and B grade are so easy to level through, that there's no point in trying to get a great augment on a low grade weapon on an alt, or even putting an augment on an item you'll have to pay to take off shortly to remove when you want to sell the item.

BTW L2 quests aren't : take a quest, look for mobs to fill it, get the reward then do the next quest. "OMG there's no quest how will I level?" is a WoW vision of MMOs where the quests do the thing and mobs are the bonus.

You get a significant amount of XP from MOB Kills in WoW. In fact, Quests don't even benefit from Rested XP, there, and you can rack up up to ~1.5-2 levels worth of rested XP. The issue isn't WoW quests making the MOBs a bonus. The issue is that there is nothing to do in WoW after you get to max level because it uses a DAoC style Talent Point system, instead of an EQ/EQ2 style Alternate Advancement system.

There's nothing to do at max level. Get to 80, and it's chain running the same raid/group instances for drops. That's it.

The grind should be secondary in any MMORPG. Content is king in these games, and the only content in L2 is the grind itself. There is nothing else. The game is designed in a way that quickly exposes its sorest points very early on. That is why the large majority of new players never even get out of B Grade.

People like having a myriad of choices. In WoW and EQ2 you have the choice to grind or quest to level. In L2 there is no such choice. There is often not much choice IRT where you want to level, even, which is a sin in such a grindy game.

What you need to do is stop trying to make excuses for L2. Ragging on WoW won't help your point. WoW's subscription numbers states clearly that a clear majority of players prefer that playstyle. What's better for the masses is better, period. These games are run by companies. Cash is king, to them. The fact that you don't prefer it doesn't change the fact that it is markedly better.

Good players don't spend AA looking for MoMammon. They put some AA on their buffer/alt/boxed dorf/whatever and sit it it in a Catacomb to wait for him. When he shows up, they get what they need, SoE it, and mail it to their main characters.

They've been doing this for years. You haven't noticed all the semi-AFK toons sitting at catacomb entrances waiting for BS/Merchant, yet?

Also, top clan members often won't announce the location of merchant of BS if anyone in clan needs it. No one wants to go to Merchant and get zerged by 20 wartags waiting for them to port in.

That was in reference to EllieBelly's Veteran Noob experiment where she says she doesn't get anything.

That doesn't mean all games should be the same as the blockbuster. This isn't about finding excuse. Some say there should be in-between, but Aion is between WoW and L2, I tried it and now I'm back. So that's not because a majority of players prefer WoW that L2 is wrong.

huh??

have you raided end-game in WoW?
\startEdit: Actually, I thought you said you did in a previous post, maybe I misread your post? I do agree on the running those 5mans over and over, see below \endEdit

I was in a semi-casual raiding guild when I quit/took a break and even that ate away all of my free time.....

Apart from the raids you have to grind your dailies for rep (well, you had to before they made SoH BoA), you have to grind your emblems for gear, get your professions dailies done, farm mats and work the auction house to get all the consumables for raids, do your fishing dailies etc etc etc
You were in a Casual Guild. I was in a Raid Guild. A Guild that raids like 4-5 days a week. That means between 10 ICC and 25 ICC I could get 1 piece of i251 Tier gear or more a week. I had 5/5 tier before they even opened up the second wing of ICC 10/25, between the raids and the dailies.

There is a difference.

Rep wasn't hard to grind. You got most of you Rep as you leveled up, TBH, unless your'e one of those people who leveled up in BGs. That, and instances (use cape, much?)

Grinding instances for badges wasn't just for gear, it was for gemming also. People grinded BGs for Honor to buy gems as well. Gear upgrades don't gem themselves, and sometimes you have to change gem configurates when you get an upgrade (oops, I jsut went under/over the hit cap, haste soft cap, etc.). Buying Gems with Emblems/Honor and selling them for gold is also a decent (and easy) way to make money in WoW.

Dailies? Lol. Those are for people who actually care about lore. I care about killing challenging raid bosses, and that's about it.

and why are we talking about WOW this much on an L2 page?
and why are we talking about WOW this much on an L2 page?

Because it's a game that is in direct competition wiht L2, and it's winning
the competition high hand so far.
As much on the fields of custommer services, as on events , expansion
gifts, competitions wiht decent rewards etc etc

most of wow players dont like wow for one thing only...
it's ugly...

But a lot of player get OVER the ugly part, just cuz it's smooth
nice non-stressing game...

here's a alot of stress in the other hand
and mostly because we as custommers feel we arent heard
at all...
people who play WOW are the same people who play stupid facebook apps like farmville. i take pride in deleting any farmville friends from my facebook as i dont choose to associate with "those" kinds of people.

...I am sorry to say it but you sound terribly elitist.

We still raided, just not hard-core, we allowed for people to have a life.
We did 2 nights a week 25m, the rest 10.
When I left in early February, we had only gotten to Festergut 10m and still only Marrowgar 25m, so yeah, not as advanced a yours.
But most people that did the Frost Emblem grind were in tier pretty fast.

Edited to add: right now I think they are 11/12 10m and 9/12 25m, no hard modes, so yes, very much a slower guild but still active. (And ironically now one of the top alliance guilds on our server....can you guess the (horribly-low-pop-everybody-transfers-off) server yet ;)).
I left them for a more "hard core" guild last year which subsequently fell apart, so I went back to play with friends. Regardless, it was still an incredidle time sink for me, I am really surprised you say there is nothing to do there at 80, you must have a good handle on the WoW addiction)
/endEdit

2nd Edit: in fact, with the new emblem grind, several players in my guild (with this limited raiding success) reached the top gear scores in their class on the server for our faction. That is EXACTLY what bothered me. Now it was not "who raids the most and gets the farthest" but rather "who has the most time to grind stupid emblems and speed run instances". That killed the game for me. /endEdit2

When I said rep I meant Sons of Hodir back when but that is moot now of course because BoA. And yes, I know about tabards, please.

I didn't PvP much and my main's an alchemist, so I never felt the need to grind honor/emblems for gems.
I know very well that gear upgrades don't gem/enchant themselves....

I just meant there is plenty to do after you hit 80 if you are raiding, exactly because of the grind requirements. You acknowledge yourself that you have to grind honor and emblems.

And some of the more hardcore guilds require the farming of mats (herbs for flasks, fish feasts) to help supply guild raids.

Odd you say there is nothing to do at 80, I had some friends in the "more hard-core" guilds and they played even more than we did.

That's not elitists, it's the truth. You can raid in L2, but that doesn't make you serious raid guild. You're not killing Valakas, and no one really cares that you can Kill Longhorn, Cabrio, Gordon, or some other non-factor raid boss like a Varka or Ketra boss. I don't care for you're playing the victim card, so I removed the rest of my reply.

I will not entertain these types of posts with replies any further. Have a nice day.

WoW is a casual friendly game. It's designed that way. That's why you feel like you're a factor and accomplishing something, when you're probably way behind the curve, anyways. Top guild on a low pop server doesn't really prove anything. You're probably bottom of the barrel on your battlegroup (care to give me Guild and Server name to check that?) in progression.

I block all applications that people spam me with on my wall. If they have lots of applications going and think it's okay to send me gifts, invites, etc. I just unfriend them and block them.

I don't have time for that [censored].

It depends whether or not they continue to send me invites to applications, or spam me with stuff. I'll typically message them and ask them to stop, but I've have instances where people don't check their messages and continue to spam me with stuff.
In all honesty, your posts make me wanna cancel my account here. (Edit: which I just did, I am way too old to deal with this kind of .)

"A factor and accomplished something", please, it is an online game, who cares. It will be forgotten in a couple of weeks.

The guild is /edited out/, probably and possibly bottom of barrel, I honestly don't care, they were and are my (virtual) friends. I tried to play the game and have fun and research and understand the dynamics well and maybe I was bottom of the barrel but I had fun.
These games are not exactly rocket science.
My toon's name is /editedout/, I quit in February to concentrate on finishing my PhD. I defend next week.
That and some of the RL sports goals I reached before I got into these stupid MMOS, for me, are accomplishments.

I guess I spent too much time in this type of environment.
You say I play the "victim card", well, it genuinely upsets me to read your replies.

The only point I was trying to make is that Wow is a time sink after 80, it was for me, bottom of barrel or not.
Maybe my tone was off (English is not my first language), but either way, it is not your first reply like that.
I enjoyed Wow while it lasted and I guess that is the whole point of playing it.

Well, I will just try and stay away from the forums and not deal with this anymore.

Crying won't change anything.

If you get upset reading my replies, you should seek help and/or stop reading these forums.

Nothing I said was untrue. I take offense to you calling me elitist.

I rerolled. Warlocks get nerfed too much. I post on the forums and used it to run my roomate through instances, though, as well as run ICC PUGs when my main is locked. My WoW account is out until Cataclysm, though. I think I'll let my L2 accounts go out again after this month, too. [Maybe I'll keep one open to troll the forums...]

That's why there are so many date gaps in the activity, even in the leveling :P Does it really take a year to go 54 to 61 in WoW? Pay attention.

It's fun for BGs, that's about it.

Thanks for posting my alt warlock's name and server on the forums... Can you now edit back in you guild and server's name into the post you deleted (that I caught before you did it)? Most people don't like to be viewed as hypocrite emos.
I give WoW 3 months top, and then boom its over.

WoW has been dying for years now.

It seems enough 12 year olds are born each year to replenish subscriber count though :D

Go go 1998'ers!!!

lol.

And Trensharo isnt even half as mean as I can be. Although I have tried to tone it down recently :D

Bai bai Anee. I guess this game wasnt for you.

Well, I did cancel my L2 account/subscription after this exchange with Trensharo.

I came here as a total newbie, I never encountered this kind of treatment on any other board/forum, sad.

Really, after one Internet Tough Guy gave you a hard time you left the game???

Being honest here - maybe it is best for you, the trash talk in game via PMs is a lot worse than it is here on the forums.

Because it's a game that is in direct competition wiht L2, and it's winningwinning what?
L2 is pvp competition, hard grind, korean game.
WoW is easier on the grind to get to endgame, raid heavy, quest based, US game.

Can't compare those 2, so stop trying.

people who play WOW are the same people who play stupid facebook apps like farmville. i take pride in deleting any farmville friends from my facebook as i dont choose to associate with "those" kinds of people.:D

I give WoW 3 months top, and then boom its over.<3
WoW has a PvP side game in it which is comparable to Lineage II Olympiad and given much emphasis, which is actually the most important part of PvP in this game.

L2 even introduced 3v3 Olympiad, something it got from WoW Arenas. PvP gear, TW Jewelry? Vitality? Kamaloka/Group Instances?

Territory Wars are comparable to Wintergrasp, and the Fantasy Island stuff is comparable to Battlegrounds. You can seige cities in WoW and enemies actually show up to fight - consistently, that is.

The two games are very comparable.

The fact that they take a different approach to PvE has nothing to do with it. There are a lot of similar mechanics and activities in the two games. There is more than enough to solicit comparison.

WoW looks ugly, but it's less laggy than L2, has better gameplay, and the PvP is more than enough to satisfy a hardcore PvPer... It will be even more so next expansion when they introduce Rated Battlegrounds.
free share?

P.S I found one of his earlier victims(sorry for some language in the pic :x)

There are posts like that on all kinds of MMORPG forums. Log into other MMORPGs and ask them about this game. They'll laugh... a lot, and then half of them will say something like that.

I've always said the L2 player community was .

Filterated!

You can't say mean things about L2 if I cover my hear and sing loud! Lalalalalalalalala!
And I play WoW, and I'm certainly not 12 years old, I'm not an idiot, and I don't play facebook games, live with my parents, in a basement, and I have a job. Go figure XD The stereotype that all WoW players are immature morons is getting annoying.

I said [censored][censored][censored][censored]. But I guess [censored][censored][censored][censored] is a bad word?

All I wrote was c-r-a-p. Why is that word censored.... And why is the word filter putting [censored] for every single letter in a censored word?

You said the community was ****?

You said the word filter was broken?

I'm confused?

EDIT: Lol, they changed it back. These people are utterly incompetent.

But you're still a noob for switching from L2 to WoW ;)
IMO L2 is elite game and WoW is for everyoneone. More or less like tournament FPS shooters or flight sims VS more casual games.

Half of people in a place where I work play WoW, and although they're OK as people, in terms of MMO they are (for the lack of better word) noobs ;)

That's where WoW has been largely successful. It has the ability to keep casual***s from feeling overwhelmed while giving hardcore players enough to do to keep them from getting bored.

This is also where Lineage 2 flat-out fails.
I'd like to see anyone, esp from L2, successfully participate in any of the harder raids in WoW and then give me that "noob" stuff. There's a difference between bringing 50 people and 15k shots and wailing on something for an hour straight and a fight that requires everyone be aware of what they are doing, where they are at, etc. But it's so much easier to just say noob, noob, 12 year old noob than give that any thought.

And I'm playing both right now, so nyah :P

Isn't there an addon to do that?
I met WoW "healers" in Aion. They can't heal. So I don't see how a RB can be difficult in WoW. Plus we have Seeds if you want a wipe because of difficulty. And Beleth, is it easy?
Also, the first times you do 4S with low gear, it's difficult. But as everything, it gets easier when you get better gear and know how to do it.
About the WoW stereotype. I have seen it to a point. All my IRL friends play WoW, and they are don't fall under the stereotype one little bit. They all know about L2 and NC Soft games, and won't touch them with a 10 foot pole.

The stereotype comes into effect when you find WoW players in other MMO's, such as Aion. While most of them probably are ok, the ones that get heard are the ones speaking in shout around towns. These people make a bad name for the rest of the players.

Yes, but the add ons don't play the game for you. It can tell you to not stand in fire but you still have to get out of the fire. It can tell you that Frost Beacon is on you, but not what to do about it. Granted I heard there is an add-on that even tells you where to move, assuming a person can handle that, but last I heard it was blocked from the servers.

And who knows if those people were good healers in the first place. There are bad healers in all games. But I'll just let it go at that, anyone that hasn't played WoW to end game really will never get where I'm coming from.

Basically it's like pve ranger :S

And I don't care how "hard" are RBs in WoW, a MMORPG that doesn't involve politics, wars, risk, strong relations between players and freedom in every aspect including choose, who is your friend and enemy is IMO a game for kids :)

I can believe the top end game of WoW, before the seasonal nerf to newbify everything before the new expansion, is hard. But in L2 did you do Kama 78 and 80, Seed of Infinity or Destruction, Beleth?

No, why was that made to be fun and rewarding in a way that a person can access in a reasonable amount of time? If so sign me up.

There are grid add-ons for healers, that let you know when people have debuffs and what their HP levels are, but that's about it. If someone is auto-healing in WoW, report them to the GMs. They're basically botting.

Grid addons work nicely because you don't have to be in the same group to monitor someone's HP level. It's always nice to get a heal from the MT Group Healer when you're out of range from your group's healer.

Also, WoW healers all have different flavors.

Disc Priests, Resto Druid, Holy Priests, Holy Paladins, and Resto Shamans all have a different flavor to them, and don't necessarily heal the same way. The fact that a Disc Priest plays Aion and sucks at healing is not surprising. It's like playing a totally different class.

Just because you played a Healer in EQ doesn't mean you will be a good healer in WoW/EQ2/L2. The different games have different mechanics, gameplay, etc.

I can't believe this Washtak person even bothers to post on these forums, if that's the type of c.rap he's going to spout over and over again.

Does behaving like one count? hehehe

Nah, its fine and you're right.

When during Tiat, I see someone outside my group beeing hit by an archer, I heal him without addon :)
Same goes for cleanse other group cardi during pvp, but that requires two groups that know eachother well and have good communication :)

Anyway there are addons that let you see other people HP/MP in l2 as well, but they are illegal :S

It depends on what you call reasonable. For the first ones, you need a solid group of S graders, and you'll learn how to do it. Then the others are progressively harder, requiring better equipment, more people, more organization, etc.

Oh the meanie, caught circumventing the filter!
Cancel you accounts and move along instead of crying. If L2 doesn't fit you, why stay? Do you think you're going to convince people to leave L2 with you?
OMG you openeded my eyes, I'm so going to play WoW, it's exactly what I need! Thank you, really.

People don't need me to convince them to leave. Have you logged in lately?

There is nothing wrong with that word. Would you have liked it better if I said "*****" instead?

I'm not playing WoW, ATM. If you actually paid attention to my posts, you'd know that. ASSumptions, much?

EDIT: This is the most ****-esque word filter I have ever seen...

EDIT #2: What the hell?!
lol

And people in other games can see someone being obviously hit by something and heal them without an addon.

But when you're having an epic struggle in the middle of AV (between Bal and the Alliance Camp at the 3 way) and there are multiple AoE's going on with melee, ranged classes and pets getting attacked... Things aren't that obvious.

And you know how much I care about PvE, if you read my posts :<

In an active castle seige that doesn't consist of two sides acting as if some imaginary Nile River is separating them, you cannot efficiently heal out of group in Lineage II.
lol

I think we'll have to whip out a thesaurus to make any type of comprehensive post on this form from now on.
done yet Tren?
(good luck finding that on thesaurus btw :P)
Some mod come in here and lock this thread, its getting off topic.
He realy wonder why he does low dmg with lvl 78 vs a lvl 84 BD? with Deflect arrow and -90% Archer damage Dance? In a hvy armor? with 6 lvl difference?
EXACTLy...
Wow dude, you were almost spot on with this post lol.
