Hey everyone. I played Lineage 2 from Taiwan Open Beta until midway through C3, and I loved it. ( Goober from Bartz, if anyone remembers... )
I want that experience again. The PvP and whatnot. I was wondering if that was obtainable, though? I am a legit player who was hacked, so I would be starting at Level 1 and working my way up slowly. Is it even worth it? Or does everyone buy Adena and bot these days? Does PvP still exist?
PvP definitely exists still. It depends on which server you pick though. its not hard to start from 1 and go up. you may find it slightly discouraging when all top players are 84 or 85 with full epics, 300 weapons, and everything else, but its not impossible.
i have a friend who just came back to game and started from lvl 1. i helped him out with gear and some adena and in 2 months of hardcore playing he reached 80 (aoe plvling worked wonders as well as this vitality event).
so its not impossible, and i still very much enjoy L2.
I will say that ebaying and botting still exist. i dont think we will ever see the end of that. the leveling is much easier now than it was in C3. you can get 40 in a few days. Also, joining the academy of a main clan can help get u some cash to get gear for lvl 40. maybe ask them to gear u in top C grade for finishing an academy alt or something as it gives them clan rep points. I would do this before lvl 16, as lvl 16 is the cut off for the most points from the academy.
Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Hyperlite, what do you call "hardcore playing"? I probably won't be able to put in more than four hours a day, and I doubt any of my old friends are still playing, so I'll probably be alone.
edit: Also, I heard Bartz isn't a good server to play on anymore. Is this true? Will server merges change that?

If you spend 4 hours a day actually leveling, and not sitting in town talking, then you'll be 80 in a few months. Though leveling quicker with vitality and quests causes a shortage of adena to some degree. You could go back to Bartz to level while you wait for the merge. PVP is kinda pointless pre-80 (and even at 80 you're not doing much in end game pvp), so just go level and try to make some money.
lv 20 is 15 mins, doing quests from newbie guide, then exp till 35 and do class quests, you'll be 40 just with quests and lv 36 pailaka.
Then, it's like 1 month till 75, and you'll start feeling the lv from 77, 79 is actually harder than 80. But you can get there quite easyly, playing 3-4 hours a day

Hyperlite probably helped his friend gear up and all that. 2 Months to 80 is still fast. He probably powerleveled the guy from minimum grouping level to 80 playing several hours a day XPing. That wouldn't take long, no, since it's not hard to get to level 63/64 (to be able to group with an 82/83 poler). The grind it backloaded and doesn't really kick in until S Grade. I leveled my sub from 40-64 in 4 days before the Vitality System and newbie buffs were put in game. That's not the hard (or rather, time intensive) portion of the leveling experience - at least not for a high-playtime player.
Most classes/people playing without friends in high places don't have a chance of getting to 80 in 2 months. It simply does not happen unless you're powerleveled by an AoE class or have some extremely good gear on loan (and maybe some good boxed buffers).
Most people who play a decent amount of time will take about a month to get to 78 if they are leveling at a decent pace and great at farming adena. 78-80 is basically 1-78 and all over again all over again (with the epic quest).
If you have good playtimes, you won't get much benefit from vitality. Vitality was designed for low playtime/casual players, not for those who are contantly in game leveling. If you play 4 hours a day, everyday, you will get some benefit, but not much.
A new melee character has it much easier since shots are a fraction of the cost, they aren't basically useless in kamas (mages run out of mp in like 2 mins) and hp herbs/pots are easily available and inexpensive.
We all know if you want to level fast, you'll be making next to no money, which means no gear upgrades, supplies, etc. Without help or existing resources to pull from, it will certainly not be super fast IMO.
They announced, just no details of when and what servers, although they really don't have many options as far of what server they want to merge to make their criteria.
I'm thinking of leaving. (No, you can't have my stuff). I came back to the game a few months ago, and yeah it was fun for a few weeks, but now I remember why I left. In all honesty, you press f1 and f2 until everything dies and you see you're 1/100000 of the way to having the number next to your name go up by one, and the resulting feeling of accomplishment (or wasted time). If Freya (they new update) doesn't fix things as far as balance between legits and botters goes, and give people under level 85 who play 23 hours a day a fair shot, I'm leaving. I know, this game is hardcore, and I admit--I'm QQing. But the economy sucks alot because at least 80% of people E-bay. If all of you guys deny botting/ebaying, why are there so many bots? Where are there so many adena sellers? You guys ruined the game. There is next to no PvP. Don't waste your time.
"Borrow money from pessimists, they won't expect it back anyway."
i love this sig of yours.
game is still fun to play, but you need to be strong to survive.
i'm considering quitting, took me 2 years to hit 80...
people do it in 3 months on a regular basis now, it's depressing.
yet when they hit 80, they already have top gear, that's suspicious...
pretty much, you're dead in the water unless you have either 2 suppoort boxes + a seller dwarf, or you've got great friends willing to level you, and gear you.
don't make the mistakes some of us have already made...
don't come back.
Hiye! I play as ShadowFiresKitty on Aria server, and I too had to start over from Level 1. I'm a role player, and part of an RP clan. . . er... mild. . . RP clan. . .. They're great people =^_^=. So far I have found that the starter towns are horribly quiet, a touch boring. Although things pick up a bit when you get to towns such as Dion, and even in Gludin I have seen a handful of people. I'm too low level yet to have checked out the high level towns, but my clan mates say that most of the people are to be found there. I also hear rumors of server merges in the future, to make the world a smidgen more populated.
I left just after the catacombs were brought about, while Heine was still new, it sounds like about the same time you left. So far I have not encountered any obvious bots. Farmers. . . well who knows? They haven't interfered with my hunting yet.
The leveling is... downright bloody ridiculous! I know it's fast. . . and it's fast to get people to the higher levels that most of the players who have been here are at. . . but quite frankly it's TOO fast. It's not a challenge. Adena is still a challenge. .. but not the most amusing one. . ..
I would only say that. . . well, give it a shot! If it doesn't work out... so you're out a few dollars, a few hours or so of time. . .. If it does work out, then you have amusement and new friends! If you hop onto Aria, say hi!

Play the game U enjoy dude and donât listen those qqerâs ;) Iâm also returning player and now things go way faster than before, and yes Iâm 100% legit start from lvl 1 and not to hardcore anymore ;) Also itâs much easier if U already played L2 before.
Game still look and feel grate and more updates are coming, server merge means just more ppl to play with :) I tried most of new and top mmoâs, yes U can be top there fast, so what ?! I quit cos I got bored fast and back to old good L2 = game which I enjoy the mostJ ppl still play L1 cos they like and donât care what other says.
Imo L2 is still one of the best mmorpg games around. It have a good mix between pve/pvp/playerdriven economy and politics. Eventhough this game is 6 years old it still could compete with the current mmorpg's if only ...... not going there as it would derail the topic.
Is the game still worth to start? I think it depends on what you want to accomplish in this game. If you are in for reaching top lvl/gear within weeks and looking for competing with the top of the server you will be resorted to bot/ebay/account purchase and what not it takes to get you there. Besides the fact you have a fair chance to get hammered for botting / ebay, get scammed for account recalls you prob find yourself very disappointed about the end game content if you have to luck to get there in the first place. First of all you would be a complete noob about anything in this game as you have missed all the content. Secondly letâs say even if you manage to get 83+ in full S80. You will be ***-rapped so bad by your opponents because of your ignorance, you wished you had invested those 100's of Euro's/Dollars in something else instead of a video game.
Personally I like the idea of look at the game as taking a journey around the world. The destination is not the most important; itâs all about how to get there. I mean what is the point of taking a trip around the world in a spaceshuttle? Ok its fast but you have missed the crucial point of take that trip, see things, experience things. Ofc if you take a world trip you donât go by foot (read solo play, no clan, no friends, no boxed buffers). Besides its boring and you have no one but yourself to blame when you screw up, it will take you forever if not impossible. The key is to find a good pace that works for you.
There is a lot of content in this game. Some is very interesting and you might want to spent some extra time in it. Others might be considered boring and you might want to skip it fast as possible. If you can find some online friends, find a clan that is willing to invest some time in new players you might like the journey. At least for me the key for playing this game is the friends I made online. Some of them I speak in vent on a regular base for over 5 years! Sharing the same passion for this game. Sharing the same anger about this game. Is this game perfect? Hell no.
Worth to pay the 12 Euro a month/account? Sometimes itâs not. Most the times it is.
Don't waste your time. Maybe things will be better after the merges, but as for now its so hard to get started again when you can't even find people selling the gear you need.
I came back last month, began trying to find an A grade set when I reached the mid 50's or so; still hadn't found one by the time I was 64 at which point I just said forget it. And this was on Phoenix, mind you.
Shops in Giran are 80-90% S grade and above. I recall the days when you could go there and find just about anything you needed, even D grade. Made me realize how dead this game really is, and it's only gonna get worse. Pointless to come back now imo.
not flamed, but thats the truth on some servers. if the OP is starting from scratch, i would start on one of the more active servers. teon has no issues with a grade gear in giran, and b grade stuff is still set in shops as well.
If you have your own goals and don't just wanna be top of the server or expect pvp and stuff right the way through your levelling then it's worth it.
Otherwise the game is definately going down hill, Adelphi is right.. all gear even up to Sgrade is simply not selling in town anymore so people don't bother stocking it, if you're looking for A grade look at the price of Acry dropping below even Bcry prices, it's all getting crushed.
Personally I'm just keeping myself to myself, no clan, just log in and level when I feel like it. It keeps me entertained, might get a nice drop or two and can use my SP to enchant skills at the end of a grind session, or might have a pet or two levelled up.
PVP wise too many power clans been running the servers for too long and theres just no way to compete, especially with all the stupid 80+ mechanics and elements they added (suck in pvp big time, great PvE). Common items killing the c-a grade markets so theres very few ways to make adena in the game anymore and this big rush everyone has to 80 now so all lower gear just isn't wanted.

The thing is, you don't need A grade anymore these days.
C/B grade from Giran (Lux/NPC)shops is good enough to get you 76.
With the Vit system you'll rush through the levels, by the time you have saved enough for a A-Grade set/Wep you'll be S_Grade anyways. There is not a big difference anymore in prices for A-Grade and S-Grade anymore. Better skip A-Grade gear completely.

Maybe it's because D, C and B grade is carried in the NPC stores, so it's been severely undervalued.
There is no point in selling it when you're done because of how worthless it is (unless you OE'd it enough to be worth anything). It's worth more sitting in your warehouse on the off-chance you or a friend will need it in the future.
Don't come back till after they get the server merge done. That's my best advice to you at this time. With the server merges, we will be getting lag issues until they sort things out. Character names will be a issue for those that are tied to their names and all sorts of other stuff.
So i'll advise ya again to wait until the server merge is done before coming back.
Adelphi both my A grades use common A gear. It works just as good as any real set to lvl with. I play on Phoenix and was forced into a transfer off Hindemeth.
As for vit system they should take that out and make the mobs give ya a lvl 4 vits worth of exp permanently. Alot of players burn 1 bar of vit to lvl 3 vit and call it a day. Which winds up making servers look deader than they really are.
B grade gets to 76...
that explains those little dwarves outside Goddard.
the bot client must have been tired of buying fresh new A grade whenever the bots got banned.
I can tell you its all on which clan you will join, what friends you will make, and ofc what your class will be.
Support classes can lvl on their own using a pet or npc buffs(a new add to game)and they are very much wanted in pvp clans. If you like to play a se/ee/bishop/bd/sws/ you can have more help from clan than if you play a dd,who basicely lvl and gear untill s80 on their own.
Much content has been added since you've left, botting and ebaying is strictly bannable nowdays, making adena is a problem and you can see many threads with suggestions about it.L2 is still the best game ever,so we dont want to let it die.
If you choose Frantz, the clan im in recruits, friendly attitude and lots of pvps.

Hit 79 and get back to us. You'll think you were back in the good ol days of wrist slashing grind.

You couldn't have looked very hard. I see full majestic/nightmare/tallum sets selling for as low as 60 mil on a regular basis in Giran on Phoenix.

I've seen Majestic LA going for as low as 30m this last week.

I keep telling people the grind is backloaded, but idiots keep saying "getting to 76 is easy" as if it matters or a 76 toon is useless, unless it's a boxed buffer.

Common gear works "good enough", but they don't even come close to working "as good as any real A Grade set."
Maybe if you ever had a real A Grade set, you'd know that.
Set Bonuses and Special Abilities DO matter.
Some classes can get away with B Grade more easily than others. A Warlord probably doesn't want to pole up to 76 in B Grade, but a Summoner can probably wear Karmian all the way up to 76, same for a nuker, as long as they upgrade their jewels to Common Phoenix in A Grade and get a decent Acumen Weapon.
Common gear is bad gear. You can level np in bad gear, but you won't level as easily or as efficiently as someone in good gear. It's you choice to make.

=^.~= That is what I hear. And we'll see at that point. But from a newbie point of view, the impression is that it's not a whole lot of a challenge. Many wont stick around to 79 to find the challenge again. But that. .. is for another thread. =^_^=
I think you are trying too hard to make it sound okay to have to click on mobs repeteadly for hours upon hours just to gain a level. There is very little challenge in leveling up. Almost (almost) all PvE in this game can be trivialized either with clever gearing techniques (stacked dark resist for HB with Holy weapons) or buffs.
If the grind was challenging and fun, most people wouldn't have a problem with it at all. People don't quit because the 79+ grind is too challenging, they quit because the fun-factor isn't balanced against the time investment to grind those levels out.
If L2 was the only "fun" game on the market, than it would be worth it. However, that's not the case, so people go elsewhere to have fun without feeling like they're working an extra job and/or putting their health at risk.

Ofcourse A grade sets/weps makes the difference over any C/B grade set weapon.
The point is that it is not worth to invest adena in A grade anymore b/c the same amount of adena will get you S grade gear as well. Xp might be slower using B grade instead of A grade, then again with the vit system you take bonus xp anyways. I can not think of a class that can not get 76 in B grade gear.

You're going to play on the words. Any class can. If you want to spend two years from 61 to 76, yes of course you don't need A-Grade.
Now as Trensharo says, if you're a warlord and stay in B-Grade, you're going to be ridiculous.

If you need 2 years, or 1 year or even 6 months to get from 61 to 76 in B grade my advise would be it's not worth to start / come back. Either you spent too less time in the game to get somewhere in the first place or you are just a big failure and better try for an other game.
Anyways that was not what I tried to point out here.
My point is that it is not worth to buy/craft A grade anymore b/c S grade is around the same price. Why would you spent all the adena on A grade while S Grade makes the real difference b/c of the element. Even if you manage to save up enough adena before you hit A grade for a A grade weapon/SA you better of to buy a S-Grade weapon and use it. The grade penalty is negligible. (unless you are an mage, then stick with an OE SOV/Homu).
(unless you are an mage, then stick with an OE SOV/Homu).
Definitely SOV only - coz it needs only 1 shot against the three shots for the Homu. And this makes a huge difference.
Also you will be surprised how much work will do an OE C armor. I made +6 all set of full plate armor and it can be used even in A grade. I made +6 not only the body and the helmet (which are needed for the set) but the gloves and the boots as well.

This post isn't even worth replying to, but I'll do it anyways...
I never said people can't level to 76 in B Grade gear.
I said Common Gear is terrible, and staying in Avadon with an SoV on a nuker up until S Grade because you're too cheap to upgrade to DC/SoM or FDS is rediculous. A nuker gains a lot of XP Efficiency and Speed from upgrading to A Grade, and A Grade Set Bonuses for melee/archer are equally as good (Tallum Heavy, Majestic Light, etc.).
The only classes that don't lose any XP speed by staying in low Grade armor, are Summoners, because they do not DD with their character and the gear they have on does not affect their summons (no Servitor/Master Stat Scaling in L2).
Nukers, DD, Archers, Warriors, are all significantly disadvantaged if they don't upgrade their gear.
S Grade armors are dubious. The only reason why lots of people upgraded en masse was because of the Attribute System. Before the Attribute System was introduced, sets like Drac and Arcana weren't high-demand, and most players preferred DC/Majestic Robes and Majestic Light Sets (Tanks usually went IC, though).
The only reason why lots of people upgraded to the S Grade sets is because game mechanics forced them to.
Most S Grade Nukers (Pre-S80) keep their DC Robe Sets, because you don't need an S Set to 2 shot MOBs on Dino to get to level 80. You just need a 150 Attribute S Weapon.
Definitely SOV only - coz it needs only 1 shot against the three shots for the Homu. And this makes a huge difference.

+6 C Armor is Top B Armor Quality, with much worse set bonuses.
Don't overstate.
Also, lots of C Armor Sets aren't full sets, they only require like 2-3 slots (FP is a bit of an outliner), so even if you have +6 C, you still have +3 everything else in many cases (cause no one likes risking blowing up gear they don't need to risk blowing up).
Ofcourse A grade sets/weps makes the difference over any C/B grade set weapon.

Ah no you can't get S grade anywhere near the same price you can get A grade for. Complete A grade sets are regularly sold in Giran on Phoenix for ~60mil. A pretty decent A wep (like SOM, Soul Bow) you can find for decent prices also. S grade armor sets are easily triple that price (except Drac perhaps) and S weps still go for between 150-200mil+ w/SA.
Leveling to 76 using B or C should be a last resort for most classes.
By all means if you can affort to upgrade to A grade, ofc you should. Casual playing, within what, 4 to 6 weeks you need another upgrade to S-grade. Atleasty for the weapon. I can not speak for other servers but in Luna server rarely an Agrade wep hits the market, priced 100M up.
Armors are around same price as Phoenix I guess, somewhat around 60 to 70M.
Based on OP, starting from scratch I can imaging 160M adena can be a big drain on adena, especialy now with the vit system and you take levels so fast. Unless you have side activities, like farming/spoiling/seeding I even doubt you'll make the 160M for A grade set before you hit 61.
At some point I would say keep the adena, stick with B grade and invest in S grade.
Anyways, not my thing to convince anyone else how right or wrong I am. Just an suggestion.
If you think its total **** just ignore all I wrote :)
Btw Trensh, sorry dude. What the hell was I thinking to qoute you and forced you to reply on a post that was not even worth to do so...

There is plenty of A grade sets sitting in the inventories of the toons in Giran on Phoenix. They are just not worth filling the sell slots (all your slots just for 30 mil, which maybe sell in a week? Nah...).
Healers not having a S-Grade set, do you stay in BW robes until lvl 80?
Arcana is a pretty terrible set, and only used because of Attribute. Majestic is "generally" (disregarding attributes) better, and DC not far behind.
A Healer *can* wear BW until 80 if they want, though, just like Summoners can wear BW until 76+ (at 76 they'll want S because their servitor Attribute attack/defense scales with their gear).
There are more than enough SEs/EEs/Bishops that leveled with nukers (like someone) and used Blue Wolf until S Grade.
The thing about affording gear in A/S Grade is realizing that the lower levels go by fast, and you should use low grade weapons/gear in the lower grade when it doesn't matter that much. If you do that, you can save a lot of adena because you didn't basically overgear yourself for your grade, and still level decently fast/efficiently.
You can use all that adena you saved to buy A Grade.
Getting Avadon for a Healer in B Grade instead of BW can save you at least 10M Adena. That's 1/5th an A Grade set, for example. Add in weapon (SoV instead of Wizard Tear or some OE'd/overpriced C Weapon) and it can easily be 1/2 of an A Set.
Weapon > Gear in upgrade progression for *most* classes.
BW is a fine set, I personally wore it until 74 at least. However this was prior to them making crappy S grade pretty much mandatory because of the attribute system. Arcane robes are really no good for anyone, and only sorta good for nukers. Certainly not good for healers, buffers, summoners. Why they've stayed with a single robe set this entire time, who knows!
I alternated maj robes and DC robes on my cardinal, depending on what I was doing and what the status of STUN was at the particular update. But clearly S grade getting attribute stones was the ace in the hole. Still very lame. A grade was nice looking and had sweet stats, everything after that I dunno :/

S grade robe with stun resist was the begining of the archers nerf.
S grade robe without c.speed was the begining of a shadow step dagger win against a nuker with low c.speed(remember only ee pow was good for nukers those days but almost every nuker had a se for recharger so he suddenly lost his c.speed)
S grade robe with stun resist was the begining of the archers nerf.
No it wasn't.
Archers didn't need stuns to kill nukers. Resist buffs/dances/songs were overpowered back then, there was no Attribute System, and there was no Archer resist in the game. Nukers were fairly balanced from C5 to the Kamael update. They didn't really pull ahead of Archers until the Attribute Resist and the nerfs given to Archers (Ranged Damage Variance, Chant of Protection, Song of Wind Storm).
However, any decent Archer group should have a Trickster (or two) in it, for Real Target (Enchant -P.Def).
They were still overpowered when the S Sets were put in, that's why most nukers still ran in DC Sets, because Arcana was not even close to a sure win against an Archer with a +9 Stun Shot. Nukers wore Arcana sets when they were in stacked groups, though, since the casting speed was acceptable with full buffs. But outside of seiges, epic battles, they were all trying to get +6 DC. Casting speed is always king, because it scales much better than M.Atk and the key to killing in Lineage II (with the Pot Spamming and all) is Dmg/Sec, not Dmg/MP (unless your M.atk is so high that you get extremely high DP/Sec with a slower casting speed i.e. current Storm Screamers).
S grade robe without c.speed was the begining of a shadow step dagger win against a nuker with low c.speed(remember only ee pow was good for nukers those days but almost every nuker had a se for recharger so he suddenly lost his c.speed)
Shadow Step didn't come until the attribute system, so I dunno what you're talking about here. CoV increases casting speed as well, and most nukers would run to Hot Springs to get Malaria 5, which lasted 45 minutes -or so- and gave about as much casting speed as a prophecy.
Thanks
The game today is not the same as it was in C3. PVP and PVE has radically changed, and the average level (and amount of adena held by the typical player) has too. Unless someone's going to give you a major hand levelling and gearing up, you're going to feel like you're missing a lot of the most recent content.
And, bottom line, server populations are nowhere close to where they were in C3, which reduces the fun a fair bit in my opinion. I wouldn't come back if I was you.
Most legit players who have played this game for years cannot compete with the current end game pvpers. It is just not possible.
Isn't that what he just said... ?

When we talk about pvp its not only mass siege/raids pvp when all have songs/dances/best setup groups, even there arcana robes helped nukers with +wit +matack.
I'm talking about 1s1 pvp when an enemy comes to find you while exping and most of nukers used to lvl in solo areas(since only fog existed for partys),with the minimal buffs from their buffer. No time to run to hotspring for malairia.Assuming the main buffer was se ,nukers didnt have greater shield buff,or any song/dance,or not even cov.I also assume they had se for emp,if they could have more boxes then maybe ee for pow too.
The place all nukers lvled was iop,a 2person party place.
I had many pvps with archers in that place and i can tell you, with resist shock buff and arcana set, never was stunned and the dmg of archer hits was reduced.Never lost a pvp wearing arcana even against hero archers with 5/5.
Arcana was a problem against dc nukers with pow and a bad set for healers.
Yes shadowstep came with attribute system, and then was when daggers begun to raise.

Seriously. Read my post, then read the posts I'm referring to. Obviously, you have not a clue.
First of all. There were places for Nukers to level before IoP. Primeval Isle could be AoE'd by nukers. Bug Rooms in IT could be AoE'd by nukers. Some nuker groups did MoS. There was ToI 11th also.
Secondly. IoP was terrible when it was released, and has remained terrible. If you think everyone was leveling there, it's cause you were either afk leveling there, or you thought all those other afk characters were real people. It was often scouted by pvp clans for wartags, the xp rate was terrible, the mob density in 90% of the areas there is terrible. There is only one decent spot to XP on IoP + the chromatic entrance.
I guess if you play a dwarf and level there everywhere is good, since your killspeed is terrible and the mobs do respawn.
Yes, people went farm IoP for cash/stones. I can assure you they were not looking for a decent XP rate. There were better places - Varka/Ketra for start, since they're obviously willing to go into gank central to XP (by your accounts).
Lastly... Arcana Robe set is simply terrible and the only nukers that wore it consistently, especially for XPing were Storm Screamers... They all seem to be addicted to any increase in their M.Atk and for some reason didn't mine the crappy casting speed.
Back then most nukers soloed to 78+ and Arcana simply did not reduce the amount of shots needed to kill a mob. 2 shot mob is 2 shot mob, they say... It's like Wearing Arcana on current Primeval Isle field... Why? When you two shot them in DC Robes? Why wear Arcana or Dynasty, for that matter? Lowering your casting speed for no benefit is a nerf to your XP rate, not a boost.
People wore Arcana in stacked parties (mage PvE parties) and for PvP/Seiges where they always had good buffs and usually dances/songs.
Casting Speed used to reduce reuse delay, and there used to be no cap on casting speed back then. Enlightenment seems rather gimp compared to the way it was back then - from a casting speed/reuse perspective.
Archers didn't need to stun a nuker to kill it back then. Even with all the buffs in the world, there was still no Range Damage Degredation, Crit Damage Reduction, and Archery/Crossbow resist in the game. If an Archer could crit you for 8k, it was going to crit you for 6-8k whether you had Arcana on or not.
NCSoft had to implement several nerfs + the attribute system to give Arcana a purpose other than "siege set." Up until Gracia, it was doing terrific at carrying forward the legacy of Doom and NM robes... at being terrible. Lol, it used to sell for about as much as a DC Robe Set, and people had lots of trouble getting rid of them.
Oh. Almost forgot. People used to go get malaria every 40 minutes while XPing, and every mage who could used to go get it before seiges. There used to be an insane amount of PvP in Hot Springs before seiges because so many people were running there to get Malaria. That buff was imba (Casting Speed + Clarity for 40+ Minutes). That's why they nerfed the duration down to basically the length of a cubic summon.
For small PvP's and 1v1s? Definitely. You'd have it as often/much as possible. Hot Springs was a PvP hot spot because it was a decent area to XP and also because there were always wartags running through there to get buffed.
People would leave buffers at their XP spots to hold it down while they ran to get malaria rebuffed.
