a hacked story

so i havent played l2 in about a year and i hear about these server merges coming up and i figure, hey, maybe its time to check this thing out again.
Of course, I come to find out that i can no longer log into my accounts. Great.
I email support and they reset my passwords. Ok
I look through my account and find that its been activated, cool. Login to l2 and low and behold all my chars are stripped and one was even deleted and replaced with a dwarf that has a name with random numbers and letters. Fantastic.

Long story short, still waiting on a response from support, but my account better be rolled back to the day before the hacker activated my account.

What ****** me off is, where the hell were all the emails saying my passwords were reset? Where the hell was email saying my account was activated and a game time card was applied?
if anyone ever had ur info before u quit then they could of logged u in during the event in December where all accounts that hadnt been active were activated so people could come back and check things out. Granted sharing account info is strongly advised against by plaync this is the only possibility i could see on how someone could access your account without you getting the email.
uhm, no

someone added a 15 day timecard to the account so they could strip it
It is a good question..

As i've been witnessed to one of my friends that had his account deactivated for ages...

i logged in on my character to show him a few, and then he went to log into his account info to go activate... and it denied him, did the password reset..... then proceeded to see that his account had be activated using a time card, and when we saw that, we rushed to see what happened..... all his toons.... 100's of millions of adena worth of items were gone. And i never took it any further simply because he simply said ":x it" and deleted all the remaining toons (he too had a character missing, but not another in its place)

He doesn't even want to hear about it and he nuked all his other ncsoft related game accounts too and said he'd never touch another ncsoft product again.
<--- gets popcorn and a drink... this should be a good thread to watch.
Hopefully no one else had access to you accounts, before you deactivated. NCSoft is more apt to look for excuses to not help you then go ahead and do something rather trivial like rollback you account.

In any case, it sucks to hear that happened to you.

Sadly, that account feature is not reliable in this product. I've had countless friends associates, and clannies through the years that have been hacked and never got an email about it. Some theorize the hacker also changed the email addy, other say its just a failure of the system itself to consistently generate the email.

I have taken on a very fatalistic approach to playing this game. I personally believe that even though I have never used a program, I could still get hacked at any time and that I cannot rely on the GMs to reinstate all my stuff and adena and levels. If that day comes, I won't even bother trying to petition it. I will just walk away.

Ditto. That's why I try my best not to borrow other peoples' gear - if I get hacked, not only will I get screwed, but my clannie will, as well.
I agree, I think of it that way as well.

How would they have your info to apply a timecard yo? Give up your info?

Thats what the hacks are like now; they don't just **** your L2 account; they **** your PlayNC account, and in some cases change security questions. Take over the master PlayNC account and they can do anything...
My friend (crystaleye if anyone cares) has the same story. She got hacked when her accounts weren't active and ncsoft replaced her gear with common (LOL).

I remember when farmers (traced their trojan dns changer to some Vietnamese place that I forget the name of) hacked my wow account at the time, blizzard sent me an email saying they put my account on lock and the reason why. They actually went out of their way to restore all my items and money on my accounts, then they white listed me so I couldn't get banned again from all the spam reports.

This IMO is the difference between ncsoft and a company that cares about it's customers. NCsoft will not replace your stuff because they will tell you that they cannot interfere with gameplay (at least that is what they told my friend).

Honestly this is what has added me to quitting the game, that someday ncsoft's security system might be breached like the following:
http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/44-million-stolen-gaming-credentials-uncovered , and all you will hear is one of the following:
1. We cannot interfere with game play.
2. This is an issue caused by your computer and there is nothing we can do about it.
3. We have decided to permanently close your account due to violations of the user agreements (rmt and 3rd party program usage).

I recommend finding another game, I'm playing Karos Online and it seems like a good game with a lot of potential. It's a little buggy but it's new and the devs and gm's seem to be active with the players.
Well as hacking goes this don't just include Lineage2 but games like wow to, not saying that the security of NCsoft is any good just that alot of mmos have this issue atm.

Appareantly a while back I got my account hacked as well, did not either get a Email or anything as I should just one day I couldent logg in to the master account, NC soft changed my account password as they could appareantly see that I got hacked ? The thing is that they changed the password to the master account but not the game password (NCsoft did)

But no one ever came and striped my account as they could appareantly see i was not worth it haha, so nothing happend, but still I have no clue how I could have gotten hacked.
typical sc things.. ^^
1.use good antivir

Well then...Gratz on the Common Gear....

I just keep risking my account then :D
i dont think some of you who are responding understand whats going on here.

i havent played in a year and no one had access to my accounts. they didnt have access to my game accounts, they had access to my plaync accounts. even if i did give someone access to my game accounts(which i didnt), why would i give them access to my plaync accounts?

the only reason im able to type in this forum right now is because im still on the 15 day time card that the hacker added. if i gave you my info, would you be dumb enough to wait a year while the gear and adena depreciated and all the players around you quit before you actually decided to take it?

i am not a computer moron. i know what viruses and trojans look like and i know where they come from and how people get them. i didnt have any trojan/spyware/keylogger or anything of the sort on my computer and since i did not actually login to my plaync accounts for over a year, there would have been nothing to log or steal.

everytime i change anything on my plaync account, they annoy the **** out of my inbox with "you have added so and so to your account" and "you have changed so and so" without fail.

anyway, the point i am trying to make is, there is nothing that i did that had anything to do with what happened and everything to do with ncsoft's poor security.

I agree. My WoW account was hacked and I lost ALL my stuff. Blizzard (which ive stood by since Diablo 1) restored my account to when I left it. Can always rely on them. NOTHING has happened to my account thus far in NCSoft and I will continue to play.. but should I be hacked and no action is taken. I may just leave. But I know NCSoft wont ignore there customers for too long.. I hope. :/ Its just not a problem yet. Not a WIDELY KNOWN problem I guess..
Same here... Blizzard is very serious about that, and their investigations don't take 10 years, either... They even send you emails or have GMs get in touch with you in game to keep you up on the status of everything.
