I love this game so far. I am on the Bartz server with a level 22 orc shaman, still on my trial. i'm not sure if i'm going to keep playing after the trial ends or if it's even worth it? i like the gameplay and story so far, but i feel lonely in this game. every now and then people will run by me, or i'll see someone flash in then out at a gatekeeper, but other than that no one talks in the chat, i don't see WTS and WTB and WTT messages anymore....what happened to this game? when i first played it a couple years ago at a friend's house there were people everywhere. now it seems totally empty and boring. i love the gameplay and story line so far, but another important thing that makes the mmo an mmo to me is the socializing and joining of guilds, trading in chat, talking in chat, etc. am i going to be on this lonely solo hunt this whole game??? is it even worth playing?
It it very fast to level to 40, which takes you all the way to Giran, so the starting areas are empty because you stay in range of lower zones maybe a day or two, so that's why.
I am new also. I am on Phoenix which has a bit more people if you choose to switch but don't want to go to the Russian servers. Hopefully server mergers are not far off. We know they plan to do them but they haven't said when yet.
A few suggestions from a noob to a noob.
If you don't mind playing a support class do that for your first character. I makes meeting new people much easier since they need your skills in their groups. A warcryer would be a great choice. Excellent buffers, probably the best in the game. You will be very popular.
Second, go out of your way to meet people. on the lower left side of your chat window is a tiny party button. Use it to see what groups are out there. Shout out and ask if anyone is interested in your class for a kama. (kamaloka are single boss instances, fast, lots of exp, limit one per day) Shout out whenever you are in a town that you are looking for a group. Ask questions when you are in towns. There are people running around even in the 20-40 towns like Gludio but they will often be alts of higher level people. Let people know that you are not just another person's alt but that you are actually a new player. I found the culture to be very helpful and friendly. A few people are crappy but most are really cool.
As soon as you get to the second town start asking around about getting into someone's academy. They will get clan rep points for you graduating from it at 40 when you do your second class change quest. Great way to get connected and meet people.
Go talk to the Priest of Dawn about participating in 7 seals. This is sign up week. basically it will allow you to go into catacombs and necropoli. Collect seal stones and turn them in next week for ancient adena which you can sell for regular adena. Great way to make money. But these also great places to meet people as well. (especially if you are a buffer) Be outgoing and just directly ask people if they want to group, especially those who are also there alone. Be careful about going in too far alone though. The mobs are tougher than outdoor mobs.
bartz is empty, go to Teon or Phoenix that are the most populated servers and u'll see at least in phoenix players in starting villages and everywhere(and bots too)...
Going for RU retail is not a real option unless you are a resident of Russia or have access by vpn/proxy to the RU servers. Not to mention the language if you can't read Russian at all :)
I would suggest either Phoenix for USA and Teon for EU also. Soon (tm) there will be merges anyways but sinse you are still on trail you might want to start out there.
True support classes get knocked out ouf the game b/c of the newbee buffers.
But this is not a reason not to start one. Atleast in my server constant groups are allways in need of new live players. Guess what is asked most? Right, Overlords, Doomcryers, Dancers, Singers, Cardi's, in general Support classes.
If you can find a buddy to group together for xp, in the end it will pay off you play support class.
Granted to road to get there is not the most easiest one sinse there are lots ppl that go 76+ on newbee buffs and boxed support.
No matter what class you'll pick, 1st thing you want to do is get your self into a clan. Even if they dont match your level yet, atleast they can help you with tips and tricks to get you going and don't have to figure out everything your self. Beeing in ventrilo/teamspeak helps a lot to avoid feeling lonely in low level area's :)
As others have said, the low level towns are often pretty quiet. Giran is still relatively busy, although I do hear fewer people talking out loud. Personally I turned off the shout feature. . .. It made me sad, but that bloody Olympiad announcer kept bombarding me with a wall of text. . .. I may try turning it back on soon.
I'm on Aria server, which is the primary role-play server, and also one of the... quieter US servers out there, but there are some nice clans that will keep you entertained. =^_^= And a roleplay event every Tuesday at around 9pm est on Fantasy Island that helps break things up a bit.
I'm still mid-level, so I can't speak for the higher level towns and such, but there are a fair amount of people that I can party with, subs and alts, a few newer people, but not many.
Hang in there until you hit mid-levels, around your 40s. And take advantage of the free ports while you have them, to explore the world. =^_^=

This actually made my day here at work. :)
Not much to do and i was bored and browsing through forum when i came upon your post. I actually read the whole story. :D
Fun to read about others gameplay. Keep up the good work.
First of welcome to Lineage 2.
And the suggestions about going to Pheonix or Teon is correct as we don't know when the server merger will happen.
But even on Pheonix/Teon you will probably not see much people in the start, it just goes so fast these days to get out of the starting areas and away to Dion&Giran areas.
For playing on the russian servers I wouldent recomend it personaly, I have tested it out and even if its easy to play there and one can change the language to English it just dont fell right, but that might just be me, and that I dont have my clannies there. :)
There is a way to get the client in all english apart from NPC dialogs, which aren't hard to figure out especially for someone who's played the game before for a reasonable length of time.
And you don't need some technical magic to log into the Russian servers. You just need to download their client, which is a trivial thing to do. They don't ban US (or whatever else) IP addresses.
I don't know it all.
You just don't know what you're talking about, at all.
Ciao.
Altering the client is a EULA violation.
Non-russian players playing on Russian servers is a EULA violation.
If you are ok with breaking the rules, sure you can do it. You will probably be ok, there are others who do break these rules. Just understand a few things:
- You are agreeing to play by the Russian EULA. Laws in russia are different then in your country. On Russian servers the company which runs things have more rights concerning searching your pc for example.
- You are stating that you are in a Russian country so basically you have no rights when it comes to fighting any issues. You are lying from the start, they know it, and it can be an issue at a later time.
- You are basically trying to use a loophole that can be closed at a later time. L2 in Russia has an agreement with NC Soft to service customers only in Russia. At any time NC West can make a complaint which would lead to your acct being blocked. This really isn't that different from the many people who played private servers and thought they were 100% safe, then at some point their server was closed.
Do what you want. It's your money, your time. Just don't listen to someone who says "sure, do it! break the rules, no one even gets caught, there is never any consequences". We have all heard that story 1000 times and seen the results.

I can see this happening if more people go there, not having your account blocked but IP blocks etc.

ur doing fine, you've just bought the game and have already started gripping about something so soon. You'll fit in well with a large proportion of the population. Play the game for fun :-)
As for Aria it's ruled by some larger PVP clans. I disagree that it's a "role-play server". There's a small population that do it and that's about it. Most of the people you see sitting in Giran are alts of the bigger clans selling raid boss jewels and high grade gear that or bots selling loot. After the server merge it'll be really interesting to see what happens.
As for lowbies in starter towns you won't see much of that. NC has made it easier for new players to get to a level where they can play with others fairly quick. Level 40 is sub class start so from there on you might have better luck. Find a good clan that fits you and they'll hook you up with people to help you. A lot of players have multiple accounts so buff and support themselves and use pets for best soloing. I'm not saying you have to do this, but it's nice to have something in your range if you can't get a party. Lineage 2 is over 6 years old and with all the new stuff out there it's taken players away and off to new games.

I agree ^^ I play on Aria & I haven't seen much role playing. It's a fun server and getting funner by the moment.
Yeah the roleplaying isnt huge, basically only on fantasy island nowadays, used to be in theine a bunch but that was years ago, and most of th roleplayers have quit, their site went down but theyve got a new one back up i saw.
as for phoenix having a better population, has anyone even played on phoenix? After seeing this thread i created a cleric, so far ive run into one person from level 1-39, from starting villages to gludin-gludio-dion, as far as population goes compared to the other servers, its about the same as bartz, I dont know where this information is comming from, but its false, phoenix is just as dead, theres maybe 3 shops up in dion, but theres like 8 in bartz atm, they're all about the same dude, I'd say go with phoenix unless enmity owns it too, othoerwise if your ok with not having a chance in olympiad then join bartz.
Everyone is too well established to be at the starter towns. No need to go to starter towns at 70-80+
Wait till you get 40+ to start seeing people, and wait till you hit 52-60+ at least to really start getting involved with groups.
It's just everyone is way past the point of starters..
You might be able to find a guild that will recruit you, but most high level guilds probably won't recruit until they see your capable of getting high level on your own.
