Sorry I haven't posted sooner, but we've been incredibly busy here. I just wanted to take a moment to say thanks to everybody who participated in the Elpy event. I had a blast GMing it and I hope you all had fun playing. It was our first event of that type, and we learned a lot. Our goal is to make every event like this better than the last, so we'll take your criticisms and ideas into account before we do another GM event.
I also wanted to remind you of what I said a few months ago back when I was first introduced. We've got a lot of big new stuff coming, and we're working very hard on all of it. Unfortunately, big projects take time, and we can't really talk about any of it until we're closer to being finished. But rest assured, we're significantly closer than we were two months ago, and things are looking quite good.
Every day Sace asks me if she can give you all news on project X, and I tell her "no, not yet", and then she asks if she can talk about project Y, and I have to say "not quite yet". Later in the day she'll usually ask if she can just hint about something, and I say no. So it's not that there isn't any news, it's just that I won't let her talk about it.
Sace should have some big news for you in the next two weeks. Just hang on, it's coming.

Yes!!! Finally!!! It's your 2nd post on this forum and I am so happy seeing this!!!
See.. this is all we ask for. A little more interaction! Maybe you dont have to say exact dates or anything. But be sure to reassure us once in a while. Was beginning to think the forums were dead! This puts me at ease!

So i can assume its your fault that we lack answares. Don't get me wrong but this is the worse scenario you can produce to a game that has alread suffered a lot with lack of support. Instead of say "dont tell them nothing" why dont you guys make a blog or something and list all projects you are working, status and dificults? I bet people will like it more then a simple soon.

thank you for an update and an estimated time frame
Why is it all a big secret, anyway? Is that something NCWest decided for you? If it's a L2-specific decision, how is "Soon" better than "We're about x% finished, y months at the latest"?
Honestly, I think most of the hostility about the "lack of updates" is due to the lack of updates on the updates than the lack of updates themselves.
Everyone, lately there has been a lot of negativity on these boards. This happens often when the players are eagerly awaiting a game update. We have been reading all of the posts about the wait and we understand that you are frustrated. However there is no good in making non-constructive posts. As we get closer to updates and announcements, the official forum rules (http://boards.lineage2.com/announcement.php?f=139) are going to be enforced more strictly.
I will be heavily moderating posts that contain the following:
Doomsaying and alluding to the "end of Lineage II."
Encouraging people to leave the game (to quit or to go to non-NCWest servers)
Rallying people to protest in some way via forum abuse (spam, inappropriate forum names, eye-bleeding signatures, etc)
Attempts to start rumors about NCsoft employees quitting or being fired (similar to doomsaying)
All of these posts are considered non-constructive. Please remember the following rules for non-constructive posting:
6. Non-Constructive posts are prohibited.
Spam is considered to be repetitive posting of the same topic or text or nonsensical posts that have no substance and are often designed to annoy other forum users.
Bumping posts in order to keep them near the top of the list is also prohibited. Likewise, the use of "/signed" or "+1" posts are discouraged in that they don't engender constructive discussion.
Do not create threads/posts to "petition" or "Lobby" for game features, additions, changes, or other issues. You may post suggestions and/or ideas to the boards, but you may not create a 'petition' for others to sign. This is bumping in disguise and will not be allowed. Lobbying is continually bringing up the same topic repeatedly in numerous different threads or as an off-topic post in official threads to get developer attention. This form of posting is not permitted.
Negative feedback can be very useful, provided that it is presented in a civil, factual manner. Tell us what you don't like and why and how you feel it could be improved. Posts that are insulting and rude may be deleted, no matter how valid the ideas behind them may be.
A rant is a post which is long-winded, redundant and filled with angry, non-constructive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and helpful in the development of the game, but rants are disruptive and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise, clear manner and avoid going off on rambling tangents.
Demands for answers from NCsoft are not permitted, however we may often address some questions and concerns with an official topic. In the event of legitimate emergencies, or other unprecedented scenarios, we will endeavor to provide comments, even if it is only to state that there is no officially available information. However, this may not always be possible.
Call-out threads that target specific NCsoft employees will be locked without a reply. If you want an answer from an NCsoft employee, please be constructive and use as much detail as possible.
Conspiracy threads are not permitted. Any groundless claims or complaints about NCsoft or any of its employees acting in collusion with or granting favoritism to any group or player will be removed without notice.
Board policy and moderation decisions are not up for discussion. If you do not agree with a board decision, you may PM a moderator. You may not start a thread or post complaining that your post(s) was removed.
These are just some of the rules for non-constructive posting. Please read the full rules for more information.
While you wait for the updates and announcements that are coming, you can still play Lineage II, the game that you love, with your friends. Let's bring these boards back to their enjoyable, constructive and Lineage II-loving state that they can be! :)
Question for you Sace. I have a few friends that are waiting to transfer from Phoenix to Sayha. Should I tell them to wait for news about mergers, or have them go ahead and transfer? It's a couple hundred dollars worth of transfers, which would be moot if Phx and Sayha were to merge in a month's time is why I am asking.
i mean be honest... we got a website that shows the game from 2 years ago... tbh who cares about the "big" things going on lol - doesn't seem like to be a constructive post - but may I be answered the question how many times we have been asured that the work on the homepage is "in progress"
you have to admit that there is not much sign of work "being done" (in all aspects) and you asking yourself why there are so many ppl moaning :(
i know what it is...
it's not about freya, it's not about high 5, it's not even about the server merges...
Fantasy island... Woot... that's why the last Elpy event led us there, they don't want us to forget about it.
ok, conspiracy theory aside.
thanks a bunch for the update, in more or less words, "soon" has been officially released. We're sorry Sace for bugging you so much.

WOOT!! Ban those annoying people turning newbies away from the game! It doesn't help the empty server situation at all!!

Yes. That thread itself stated that it was repeating previously-made statements about players being upset. There were some constructive posts in the thread, which we have kept for the Lineage II team to read privately. The rest of the thread was a lot of "+1"s or rage posts. I hope that answers your question.
Thank you Cabel for the information and taking the blame for holding back on announcements is a standup thing to do.
This is exactly what we needed at the minimum. Granted we would all like more specific information about specific things but at least giving us meta-information, at least letting us know that more information will be coming in a particular timeframe is very good. It lets us know that there is, in fact, a plan.
Sace, I know there has been a lot of negativity, I have been a part of some of that negativity. I understand you wanting to avoid negativity and certainly we should not let ourselves get out of hand but understand that we don't have the benefit of knowing what you know. This is why it is so very important for us to have at least the promise of future information. Thank you for your part in badgering Cabel day to day into approving the release of new information. :)
As for those wondering why all the secrecy, I wouldn't make too much of it. NCSoft is a public company. Information regarding major updates to revenue producing products can have an impact on share prices and if it effects share prices and turns out to not be correct or true, the company can be held liable or be investigated for manipulating things. Cabel is just being careful because that is part of the job.
Thanks again for the information even if it is nothing specific yet. It is nice to know where we are at.

I'm very sorry but how can you expect people not to ask questions when no information has been flowing our way for months.
All the grumbling that swarmed the board came from knowing nothing and waiting forever to get even a scrap of news. Considering that it's just human nature to Want to Know, therefore the wave of rumors abound, people shout and post get edited/deleted.
Why not put a journal or something of that style where we will have timed estimates or reasons why X updates is/isn't coming, % of progression on work done.
At least give us something more then "SOON" which most just can't take anymore and turn to derision every single time they see it
I have a good question that was talked about but never answered. Why for the first time in this game did was not have a anniversary event this year? The anniversary events have never been on the same day, just when ever that seem to fit like updates. So when one wasn't announced i thought that you were waiting to have it at the same time as the new patch. But now it seems alittle late to have a anniversary event 2 months after the 6th anniversary. I guess my real question is are you still plainning one or is this an event that is no longer happening?
Are we allowed to discuss the "known" content of Freya and High Five on these forums? I noticed that all threads regarding Freya (even ones that listed skills and information) were removed.

I can answer that right away. You may discuss the updates including skills, this is why the High Five Interlude thread is still open. The Freya thread that included that was also subject to lots of negativity and non-constructive posting, so it was removed.

Thank you for the update - and I would recommend that Cabel you post more often - it is always nice to see the Producer at some level interacting with the player base.
I applaud your interaction with us again after such a drought of info.
I would like though to point out how much we want it. Could you please look at what the other side of the company is doing (where spam went) and see some of the things that are so small but so hugh to us.
Micro announcements, maybe some more hi's, some more gm interaction (have you talked to the Lin1 people about how much fun it was when a gm spawned a long lost dragon in town and people got to have some safe fun).
You all use to do question and answer sessions on the board (long ago in a dimm and distant past of Ncsoft)...
While you can't tell us about all your big plans, maybe just some old fashioned chit chat
I say this because I want things to get a lot better than they have been for the last 2 years and to get even better than Aion since this can become a better money maker than that game if you want it to be.
i bet "big project" is server merge + high five... thats why so many mysterious silence...
Maybe, maybe not. It could be a range of things from micro-transactions, to merges, to updates, etc. At the end of the day everyone has to decide for themselves how long is too long, but I enjoy the game for what it is at the moment.

+1 to this post
Things in L2 ARE a LOT BETTER than they used to be.
Making the forums more positive is fine and all
But it keeps bumping me in the eye when i lay
the korean page next to this one
i understand that the game needs translation
i understand that u cant exactly show everything liek the koreans do
because they have diffirent social standards
But i don't get why the game is so diffirent
why the events are so diffirent
why the rewards are so diffirent
Thanks for the update. but u still really havnt told us anything about these "projects" that we already know the names for. Would be great if just given a date. If u dont make the date i dont think people will care that much. Giving a date would show something ncsoft never done before.
I don't really like the idea of keeping everything away from the community. I'm sure most of us would like the chance to give some constructive criticism on projects you all are working on, and heaven forbid we get a estimated release date(until now) on anything. I'm sure the community would be very forgiving even if you don't make that date. But to each his own I guess ;)

agreed. if we had an absolute date within a month even we could prepare ourselves for the changes to come. Id hate to be working on something or leveling something or farming something that is going to be worthless by the release....
Maybe the reason people are so negative is because you tell us next to nothing. Acknowledging our unhappiness with a "don't do that!" doesn't fix it. Can you please just tell us ANYTHING we don't know?
Hi Sace! I like you very much. Dont become angry due to my posts.
But why post about important game bug to be fixed was considered as "non-constructive"?
I have nothing to do in Lineage2 now and my fun is only sieges.
In 2 days from now we will have sieges at Teon and I can bet on Shutgard again will be used all possible and impossible game bugs.
What we need to do? Make petitions? And? You will ban several trial accounts and maybe ban IP range at some random proxy-server(located for example in South Afrika)?
How it help us during incoming sieges and others which will come after?
You cant fix bugs? Dont want to take help from players? Ok.
So maybe you need to send GM to monitor sieges and help players to avoid being affected by any bug?
P.S. Sorry, I understand that this is wrong topic for this discussion. But there are a link of this problem to Freya. In new update I will have a lot of things to do and maybe I will forget about sieges =)

Sace when I ask for update of Library on official Lineage2 website.
Is it:
Spam ?
Because it is repetitive
Demands for answers?
While we asking for some action from NC-west
Conspiracy threads ?
While only one idea that come to mine mind (why website is still in CT1) is, some Masons or Cyclers are blocking any activity of NC in that area.
Doomsaying?
Is it not that all web developers extinct or NC give up to update web page?
Rallying to protest?
Just simple, if something is useless why we should use it?
... So?
Maybe it is project W(eb)?
Sace have you asked about project W?
Cabel Can I ask to give any answer to Sace different than - NO if she ask about W?
Elmar (...)Six GMs took the time to meet up with players on the PTS at 6pm, i.e. after office hours, to show them the ropes in the upgraded Antharas' Lair. The GMs were not just supervisors but had a leading function in that raid. Kwondoh has copied their dialogue into the lower right corner of the embedded videos. It is the GMs who say when to use Dance of Medusa, it is the GMs who take out irrelevant mobs with their +16 weapons. In other words, they are experienced players. And when it turned out that with 6 parties there was too much lag, they called it a day and came back on the following day with 3 parties at 18:30. That's what I call job commitment and love for the game!
IMHO.. Arena.net, NCWest, NCSoft.. should just hire more Proactive and efficient people.. to see if even "private" servers don't get things before official ones, do.

X is High five. We will pass through Freya and get High Five directly xD
X is High five. We will pass through Freya and get High Five directly xD
Would be amusing if they actually did that, in the typical NCSoft fashion, just to spite us. Massive vitality event(s), then boom -- XP requirements massively cut. Those last few weeks? Utterly wasted. Would be a very amusing twist, indeed.
Yes. That thread itself stated that it was repeating previously-made statements about players being upset. There were some constructive posts in the thread, which we have kept for the Lineage II team to read privately. The rest of the thread was a lot of "+1"s or rage posts. In other words, NC doesn't like looking incompetent in writing. They already know they do. That's all you had to say.
First of i want too thank cabal for atleast posting how the situation stands. Note too Cab, see how many people reacted too a small piece of text ?...they enjoyed some kind of commmunication, even if freya is months from now...status update or progress helps keeping people content, since they get the feeling you are working on it. No news on the otherhand leads too whats happening on the board atm.
Secondly, i must admit that before reading Elmar en co posts on their site. I too blamed NCSOFT US for their lack of imaginiation en progression in the game. BUT after reading what elmar en co wrote about the game, im no so mad but feel kinda sad for the seatlle division. They are too dependend on Korea for updates/translation etc. I know they cant admit that on these boards to much legal things probably in the way of that.
So people go read the link someone provided in one of the above threads and u can judge for yourself it its NCsoft west fault for getting late updates or not.
I do however think they should keep people informed! Information is the key it has been said over a million times. If u cant tell us on this forum sace, make a ellybelly account and tell us there or whatever....be creative. I know their are rules, but rules that prevent progression should be changed. Even Korea keeps them the L2 players updated...if its because of US law....put a server in EU:)...as i said guys be creative:O
GL need too get vit buff burned.... +3 % here i come!!
I will be heavily censoring posts that contain the following:
Anything from unhappy customers
Fixed for you. Seriously censoring posts about people being unhappy is what communist governments do. If you want to solve the problem communicate and be honest with the people who pay to play the game. Everquest pulled the same bs 6 years ago and almost drove their players out...and like the flip of a switch they actually got it and started communicating. What a concept!! "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" doesnt work in any culture.
Guys don't worry it won't be high five for at least couple more months and the big thing isn't high five for sure.
Why? Well it's pretty obvious because high five was like a lightning in middle of sunny day even in korea while talks about big changes upcoming were announced few month earlier.
So what those BIG changes could be? Well anything from merges(which were already announced btw) to new business model or micro transactions. Hard to tell at the moment but big news are not updates because secrecy isn't needed for those.
Fixed for you. Seriously censoring posts about people being unhappy is what communist governments do. And deleting posts of customers showing simply there displeasure in a constructive way is the equivalent of paper shredding.
i'm still waiting on the Graphic engine update, some of those old shots of dion and Giran were so nice, it really makes me wanna play in that realm...
unfortunately, i love the game for its style, so i would probably quit if the style changed and things started looking any bit cartoony...
right now i view the world as water color, ink washing and the like...
maybe an improved graphics engine would hurt it...
anyway... you drive me crazy...
crazy thinking bout L2, keeps me up all night.
can't you throw us a bone wrapped in an itinerary? let us know what this big project is, and show us how much we mean to you?
that's it...
i'm moving out there...
and going directly to them and asking...
can't post it online gotta go straight to the source...
so... are yall hiring?
i mean i need Game industry experience before i can get a job in the game industry anyway, might as well start at Ncsoft for a spell...
i mean i could go to EA, but they're slave drivers.
no offense intended for any EA team members who play L2.
IT is quite simple, no matter how u turn it ...Information is the key.
The fact we can compare the korean forum to ours thanks to even
bad translation tools we mannage to get all the new info the same
time as the koreans.
There's no points in hiding things, we already know them
Delays in translation are a pain, i know i have to translate a lot too.
But a dead line is a dead line, have to keep to it.
being a producer i understand u are in front of the new challenge
to make things roll smoother and to renew the ways NC used to
work, i saw in u'r resume u are qute good at that.
But don't lose the information out of sight towards u'r clients
Every good company keeps its clients informed
on a regular basis and since we are u'r vital component
it would be wise to open up a new thread
where u could let all the brainstorming happen for new events and more.

Pfft! Like EA lets their serfs go home at night so they could connect to other games without the IPs being restricted. I doubt they even let them go outside.

So do the server merges fall under Project X or Project Y? and is there a project Z we will be seeing before the end of the year?
I believe Korea was promised 4 major updates this year how does this affect us? Do we see 2 Major updates this year or how many?
Some believe that the mergers are a sign that the end of L2 in NA/Euro may be coming, what do you have to say to them? Is there hope to go back up in server numbers?
I saw Cabel on the forums earlier today before they even posted something about mergers(Instantly i knew something was going on lol) so im guessing he stepped in and read up on the postings and decided to post something so my hope is perhaps to get him to touch base on these few things i was wondering about.
Olgen probably got the number of players confused with the revenue from both games. In the second quarter 2010 Lineage 1 contributed 33% to NCsoft's global revenue, while Lineage 2 contributed only 19%. But this was due to the introduction of micro-transaction, not because of an increase of players: http://v3.elliebelly.net/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=55&func=view&catid=15&id=27803#27845

Just another reason to give l2 na nc coin ... i want my pet lol
NC Soft Korea would never let L2 die past this point, go check L1 (Lineage 1) is still around with an active player base...
still a valid point on when we can expect High Five update :)
NC Soft Korea could care less if the NA/EU L2 went away. We are a red headed stepchild, and afterthought. They will protect the Korean L2 with everything they are worth probably, but not us.
I know this is old but. Even though Cabel really didn't give any information. Just a simple "we are hear working hard to try and make L2 better" message is nice. It's that little reminder that the L2 community isnt forgotten.
