All servers will be down for an extended maintenance Tuesday, August 17th at 7am PDT / 9am CDT / 10am EDT / 2pm UTC/GMT. Estimated downtime is approximately 10 hours.
You may have noticed several maintenance notices regarding other NCsoft servers moving to data centers recently. Now it's our turn! :) During this maintenance, the Lineage II game servers are being restarted inside of a new data center. Previously, the North American servers were located in either Los Angeles or Washington, DC. Now, all of the North American servers will be located in Dallas, TX.
The North American servers are: Aria, Bartz, Devianne, Phoenix and Sayha.
All of the servers (North American and European) are getting new hardware tomorrow! That means that when you log in after the maintenance is complete, the game will be running on improved servers! :D
I demand....you give me some ideas on what to spend my time after work doing in the absence of L2. :s
**** all my normal excuses won't work. Time do yardwork and assemble all the pieces of furniture that has been sitting in boxes. I hope you're happy. :(
Yes, PTS will remain open. There will be a couple of little oddities about logging in to it, however. I am currently preparing a post to explain them.
The quick version is that, if you aren't making any changes to your Lineage II game account during the next week, you will be able to log in to PTS just fine. (Changes to your Lineage II account include reactivating, activating, and/or changing your login password.)

Thx for info Sace :)
If it not any ULTIMATE secret of NC - where are European servers are located ?
As I understand EU servers are as well updated (hardware), what will be location of those after update?
I mean physical location - just country, ofc city name would be warm welcome :p
I'm asking because I do observe funny situation, last 2-3 months like Teon would travel across Europe, due to constantly changing ping to server gate :)
Once is similar to Franz sometimes closer to Aria :)
Is that to prepare for server merge? i mean you maybe get better hardware so more ppl on one server so just 1us and 1eu server or so?
This is to prepare for the server merge. It's unavoidable that some east and west servers will be merged together, and having them on LA and Washington DC would just make things difficult.
im in the UK, and I play the US servers, however either its my net or the game but my servers ping has been shooting up over 500 lately, but whats funny is sometimes the EU servers would fly over 300 + (higher than the NA servers)
in regards to upgrades / move to texas.. closer to england= better for me, and as i read that part, the neighbors kid went
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY" heh.. funny... now i have 9 and a half hours of nothing to do though... gah. maybe ill clean my room.... oh wait it's already clean =(
I really think 1 server in NA would be a huge mistake. 2 would be ok. If when they do merge servers they need to do a super bot clean up too because I know on my server the catacombs are just crawling with bot parties now. During the Sage events it was mostly empty but I guess the bots think its safe again now and they came back with a vengence.
Going to hard enough getting xp spots with full servers as it is without all the bots.

1 NA server wont be enough, at times there are more than 6 k accounts logged in, maybe if some HW will accept more than 10k they could cram it together but it is unlikely anyone could exp then, except the bots.
I fear they are considering one EU server :(
If too much crowding will occur, the dropout rate will go through the roof, the merger is possible to be a good thing, but too much of it will accelerate the decline.
M
first time i had a good experience with lineage II is when the west servers were moved litterally west... aka... seattle..... pings dropped from 450-550 with packetloss due to the Savic Routers or higher down to 15-30ms no packetloss
i hope to gaud this isn't the case this time when they come up
i guess there will be no excuse to stay on a dead server now just because the ping is right.
although, now i have to question which servers will be merged into what?
because just 1 server would take out a nice revenue stream for ncsoft with the server transfer cost.
go go...
and how to spend time away from game?
maybe play some yahtzee.
The patcher is working now, and I downloaded all the new files for this server's maintenance (or so it'd appear). Does that mean the servers will be coming up shortly? Should I spam login? Should I go afk for another 3-4 hours?
It has not even been the estimated length of time that was originally given and polluting this topic with stuff isnt going to speed anything up. Wait patiently for a response and find something to keep yourself busy, or go do something else.

I doubt players will notice any performance boost by upgraded hardware, the hardware upgrade should just better support more players after a merge on the updater server software when Freya goes live.
Players will definitely either notice a ping increase or decrease. This increase or decrease will depend on where you are playing from and how far away you live from the server's new location.
Personally I think it'll create less lags during sieges, because the new servers will have the possibility to calculate easier and faster such information, even if it's about the bandwitch to send/receive information, the capacity to use and send back packets is determined by the server.
Or you should find an explication why big big computer could lags during siege :D

Can't be the server, because some people have horrible lag during siege, while others do not. It would either be lag for EVERYBODY or for nobody, not for SOME.
Not saying that the server cannot cause lag during a siege, just that it is unlikely the specific problems some players have are caused by the servers.
Kinda sucks my ping to the NA servers from west coast has now doubled, too bad I can't do too much about it though!
A better way to have gone about this was just when merges came out had one west/east server, not forcing all players to have to play from the same location.
The Lineage 2 client's ping listings for servers is not updated at each log in. Delete the file: " s_info.ini " from your Lineage II\System folder. Full check is not required, this file will automatically be re-created after logging in. Log in to a new client and it will refresh and show current pings for each server.
wow... my ping aparently hasn't changed at all lol, the eastern servers still show eastern ping and the western servers are western ping...
There's a file "s_info.ini" in the system directory, delete that and start the game again. My ping to Phoenix went up from about 100 to 190, and all the other NA servers are also around 190-200.
I don't see how this was a good idea either.. Even people who live in Texas have high ping. Are you guys even using good servers? =/ My ping when up from 13 to 51. Not that it's a big deal for me, but others are really going to hurt in the 100+ ping area.
ah there we go, In western canada, and now they are all higher pings, not by much, western pings used to be 40s, now 96s and the eastern ping was 89-90 and now around 96. Oh well, figured it would happen.
Absolutely the worst part of all is that in no way was there any communications towards the players on this decision. The number of actual Americans who play this game is low and I already hear complaints from people who had their pings sky rocket and are noticing click delay in game. :|
Fact. Also pets will get stuck on objects, when you're pulling a group of mobs they don't always come round the corner like they should. Even going up some hills will now be a quest in itself.
Eeek now same ping for all NA servers, gone up 45-50ms from 215-220ms to 260-265ms. Probably wont notice much difference. Maybe some ppl wont luck out @ sieges and get lag city now.
I too am having terrible pathing problems :( Hunting on an alt in Hot Springs and you get stuck on every rock and blade of grass and instead of clicking to go around you have to go backwards (sometimes it means drawing aggro when you don't want it) And to go into the pools, well you have to find just the right spot >< Annoying and was not like this a day ago.
This happened once before, not sure if it was an update or what but pathing was affected. It did get fixed mostly but I wish things would get fixed like when you click to run forward but happen to hit something hanging from the ceiling, or a tree branch, you run back :/ Things on the ceiling should not be in the pathing :(
Completely agree w/ Soul corners are really bad now even mobs are glitching badly. It's like the server was moved two steps to the right but the movement paths were all left in the same spot, so you run into a wall that is two steps to your right : /
Even mobs get in the way when there's only 2 in front of you...I feel like an Orc when they can't get between Fort guards : /
What's up with Sayha having higher ping than the other NA servers? Aren't they all in the same place now? I know we're the ugly step child of L2 but...
We've noted that some players are having collision issues, and we've sent this information to QA. So far they have been able to reproduce some of the collisions on Phoenix, but have yet to find them on other servers.
If you are experiencing collision issues on any server other than Phoenix, please post about it here, and say what server you are on.
We've noted that some players are having collision issues
It's not only collisions, it looks like NPC pathfinding algorithms got messed up.
It is almost impossible to play a summoner now, because the summon gets stuck in any spot with complex relief, can't follow its master around the corners, and so on.
Moreover, some mobs also have the same problems as pets and summons: e.g., stakatos in the Swamp of Screams tend to run straight into the nest's wall instead of fleeing towards the nearest entrance.
Ok, folks. We have rebooted Phoenix and we see that the pathing / collision issues are still happening. The QA team and script magicians are examining the problem and looking for the cause and solution. We're working on it! :)
Some ppl on ventrilo are saying it seems a bit better, like they dont get stuck on terrain as bad, but the regular pathing that lets u click behind a wall and actually run around it, is still not working >.<
Every corner jumps out and stops you...fog is a trainwreck..you cant run 5 feet from point A to point B without running through a maze. First time ive logged out not wanting to play tomorrow in 6 years.
fog is bad for some people on good days...The rock platform just past necro's towards bugs was semi tricky to get through before atm it's suicide....
Trying to get around NPC shops in town is tricky atm to... It's like playing a big game of Operation where you can't touch the sides or you lose your turn, in this case you die : /
There are still problems on Teon. On SV on certain spots the game freezes. After few seconds it usually proceeds but once the freeze was so long we got DC.
the bugs are the worst part... u cant pull anywhere... if u are in the hall , mobs dont come , if u try pull top , u get stuck in the invisible wall losing alot of hp wich is annoying.
mercs are quite good yet , if u go inside the knight room. u can pull 5 rooms there w/o mobs geting stuck
lower fog is good if u manege to pull the lone balrog room b4 the other doble room , other wise mobs get stucked.
Has anyone else noticed a higher than normal amount of run loops? Or am I just unlucky this week.
Also, can we get an update on a fix sometime today. We are working on it....QA is still looking into it....We moved the problem on to the Korean Dev team...Replacement hamster is needed....
The latest news is that QA is going to try running Phoenix on different hamsters. We do not yet have a schedule for when this changeover will happen. As soon as they let me know I'll post about it.
both geodata and pathnodes are worse off then ever on phoenix...and work on every other server that NC operates including pts...just bring the server down and re-load both...
So your advise is when soemthing is wrong with the game not to report it but just not to go there? Smart indeed (sarcasm).
No. Im saying Teon is not suffering from the same thing Phoenix is. And the time I spent on Teon checking if you guys had the same problem, I didnt run into any trouble.
So you are most likely having lag.
You also said it happens in a specific spot.
If it keeps happening, maybe you should try avoiding that spot?
Or is that beyond your lvl of comprehension (sarcasm).
Happening in the same spot just means that you reach the border between two locations/parts of locations and you get lag, because your PC is downloading info about that location or part of it, and your PC also reads texture files and other files from the client, to show you this location/part of location correctly.
It is easy to notice in town, when you run to the luxury shop from Giran Square, a little after doors, you get lag. How much you lag depends on your PC config.
If you notice lag only in some specific locations, maybe it just means that these specific locations are bigger than normal and that is why it takes time to load/read.
As to SV... dunno how it's on Teon, but Franz SV is botted 24/7, many bots, many drops, more lag.
