I know it will be hassle but the stolen names should be returned to the rightfull owners

It is not a secret a lot of known toon char names were deliberately stolen with specially created in the last few days dummy chars. The target of the theft are clan leaders names and known market players for the obvious purpose of scamming.
So isn't it correct if the conflicting names were created in the last week before the merger the older (and this means original) owners to have the right upon the name?

Sace has said that if a name was lost due to a griefing or technical issue that resulted in in an original name theft to submit a ticket. So if you have any issues send them a ticket and see what they do to return em
I was preparing to take my old clan name back from the ppl that stole the clan, but I dropped the idea because GMs said will give back to the original owners even tho i was the original owner and I made it up in the first place+doing my best to keep it clear for years.
I let them keep all the loot, it was too stained anyway, too late to retire it.

Well, goodluck if you are attempting for it again.

No, I wont, it makes no sense because GMs do what they ask and because it is too late anyway.

Yep, I read the post. But it seems to cover only the exploit where you create a dummy char with your own name and then change one of them either for free namechange or to steal some others name (which is clearly NCSoft omission).
But i mean the other way - creating a dummy char directly with targeted for theft name and then pounding the login server to log the second it is up. All those chars are easy to spot too because they probably are created jus tfew days before the merge date and are low level.

Clarification to what really was said by Sace, she said that you could plan to better benefit yourself with the name change policy, IE it was not ilegall and perfectly ok to create an alt that would force a name change for one of your toons. What would be prevented and investigated is if you created a toon with someone else's name then get the name based on loggin in first. What should happen is:

1. Toon's name has a name conflict, owner submits a ticket.
2. GM compares all the toons with the same name and see's that toon 1 has had the name for 2 years while toon 2 was created 2 weeks ago right after the process to settle name conflicts was announced or right after the server merge was announced (about a month ago).
3. GM forces the name change on the NEW toon and changes the name of the OLD toon to what it was.

It shoud be a pretty easy, straightforward and, fast resolution.
they needed to be more clear about the name changes before the servers went live. I lost some of my names, so I grabbed new ones in case I coudln't get my original name back. I submitted a petition, and was told that because I chose a new name, it was a done deal. I wish I had known that ahead of time (I never saw an official topic about name changes and the petitioning system)

oddly enough, I was coming on the boards to find said topic, and ran across this one. my oldest toon, renholder, is now godiva. so, there was no malicious intended name steal here, I just grabbed one. I imagine that will be the case with a lot of common names out there. lol... you can have godiva back. I want my old name back too.
Personally i dont remember seeing a rule by where if you select a name to log in with (aside from the one designated to you, I.E Tallibeth17) then you give up your right to petition for your old name back. What difference does it make? Surely they will look at the log and see that you were who you stated or something to that effect.

+1 to that.

Regardless, i hope that you get your names back. If you both push for it i'm sure NC will sort it out...
I also aggre with that and still w8ing for answer on my petition :(

Heh... only the bord username is Godiva; the ingame toon name is intact. Someone tried to steal my main seller name but luckily I logged in first. The name of the seller wasn't common and it was well known on Teon so I presume it was done intentionally.
But i see CL names stolen and this obviosly was intended.
Well someone stole the name ive been using on dev since i transfered back but i didnt want it anyways i wanted my orginal name and i got it the only bad thing some ppl might mail to the wrong name cause they have got use to the 0 instead of the o
A clanmate of mine has had his name for years. I can just say his name is Dagew which is a unique name. It's not reasonable for anyone else to take it.

When he logged in he tried to rename his char from Dagew10 to Dagew but received a message stating the name was already taken. He sent a petition and the GMs gave him his name back already. The whole process took 1 day.

This situation is a good example of how GMs/CMs have greatly improved the L2 experience for the good of our players.
