I thought NC said that this server can handle all these ppl, and that it justified a single server for NA. Then why does it say that the server is Heavy and mass lag's during game play? Is there too many ppl log'd on for this one server? Doesn't NC have all the data info to see all the log'd connections and what it would do when it runs all on one server? I don't get it.
There is currently a higher population then normal because people hearing of the merges and reactivating their accounts to check things out. But people will go innactive, due to many reasons, lag, tw badges, CHs, getting bored, so on and so on... then the population will go down to normal after about a month or so, maybe 2, then as time goes on more people will leave, and it will become acceptable levels for the server. I'm sure the NCSoft staff have all the info in order to make a fairly accurate prediction. One of the reasons why they made the choice to merge to all servers. Even i could get some pretty accurate calculations of populations over time if i had the information that they have. Mixed with future knowledge of coming events and other announcements, their staff should have it calculated out to a very small margin of error.
server heavy triggers at what... 3500-4000 people?
that still gives 2000-4000 people still able to log in and run without issues.
The lags aren't the servers or ncsofts connection.. what the lag is the rediculious move to texas from seattle resulting in tons of lag for everyone... this was evident before merge.

pay for a btr internet connection? I have minimal lag only in giran.
From what I heard so far, most of the "lag" you guys report is simply a computer unable to cope with all the players. When put on lower detail most of the complaints are gone. My ping is still absolutely fine and I encountered no lag whatsoever so far.

Just my 2 cents...
I would think this is true as well, wouldn't it be nice if NC can perm ban all the botters? Obviously it's in NC's right under the EULA that it can be done. Wouldn't it be nice to get rid of all these bad-users and make the game enjoyable as it was intended to? In fact it might even bring back alot of the players that enjoyed the game but were disgusted with all the botters that made the game play inbalanced. Wouldn't it be nice to get future news that in fact they will add servers?

My ping varies now from 76~115 after the server relocation, which it used to be 26 steady. My new comp still handles the game play well, not as what it used to be, but I don't even think the the game is bearable for even the most up to date comps all tweaked out. I run 2 comps and my best comp w/ only 1 client running only my main and I got dc'd right after the castle was taken. I remember when I started the game in C2 and there were heavy servers and didn't even come close to these kinds of lags.

The game is not as impressive when you start lowering the details and turning off this and reducing the range of that. Might as well go play WOW or get a better video card/system?
I've been doing my best to stay away from Giran since the merge, but when I do end up there, I often lag out completely. To the point where my character won't move and I have to restart back to the login screen and select my character again. I never had these issues before the merge, and it only happens in Giran.
Crowded towns in other MMOs have never created problems like this for me. I would also agree with the people saying that the game seems to lag much more frequently since the server hardware was moved to Texas.

Try targeting yourself next time you get stuck, works for some people.
Pressing ALt+P when I go to Giran is no big deal, I have a dual core 3.2 with 4 gigs ram, a 10k rpm hdd and a evga 260, this is not that expensive anymore and worth it if you want to siege on decent settings.
Though running Windows 7 doesn't help, I may switch back to XP my fps is much higher.

just a fyi
everytime i port into giran my character will not move.. and to resolve this.. you simply hit or tap one of the Arrow Keys on the keyboard.
it's a glitch in game that when the client is actively downloading a pile of information in terms of "sell shops" as an example... information sent via mouse clicks or skills for whatever become unrecognized.. and only a restart or keyboard function such as typing and arrow keys seems to reset these fuctions to a working state..
doesn't matter how powerful your computer is... in giran... things are not going to be 120fps... reguardless of setting your detail to ALT+P

you can blame nvidia for that most likely..
considering that running windows 7 has given me approximately a 15% boost in fps over windows xp.. and vista was just as good..
OR it's likely the opperators own fault for improperly setting up windows on your machine...

It doesn't happen when I first port into Giran, it happens when I'm going in and out of the shops, or when i'm coming out of the Eisenhad Temple. My character will just suddenly stop and I won't be able to move. Log out, log back in and I'm fine.

a similar thing happens to me when i use the warehouse npc opposite the armor shop.
i hit esc, that works. but i have also run into the glitch at the temple steps, which also requires to hit esc.
often i also glitch on the floor of the entrance to Imperial Tomb. have to WASD through that area until i get to the chests.

i know..
but most commonly people tend to lose toon control on port in..
but even i.. sometimes just walking or running through giran.. will have to hit the arrow keys on the keyboard 3 times in about 10 seconds...

Same here, have to use arrow keys to push my character forward both in Giran (regularly) and upon porting (randomly).
Also, today I got the "soulshots stop working" glitch, an hour before the server maintenance.
As I relogged, everyting seemed to work fine, but a few min later, I d/ced and died.

Thanks for reminding me to update my graphics driver :)
The Operator* was me, pretty sure I installed Windows 7 correctly, as I've been installing windows for almost 10 years. Did I miss something as far as tweaks maybe? Windows 7 though advanced and less a hog for resources is still sluggish in comparison to XP, maybe that's just an opinion, who knows with the unlimited amount of tweaks/drivers/etc.
Or maybe you are Bill gates or something and know something I don't?

There were such issues in Giran on Phoenix before the merge, starting with Freya update. If I remember correctly, I've even run into them on Freya PTS.
If you are stuck, press Esc and you will be able to move.

no..
there really isn't much to tweak..
but i know of many modern "prebuilt" machines and some custom built machines that never were ment for windows vista or 7... they are made of poor quality components and considering the number i've worked on.... it's not hard to grasp.
It's surprising how many tech gurus forget to install some of the basic necessities for computers..... installing windows and then being done with it is a bit of a poor example of a guru..... installing just the video driver isn't a solution either..
specially when countless seem to expect that the windows update supplied driver "will do"
Lack of Chipset drivers, Storage Drivers (ACHI or Sata full support).... audio and video drivers..
top it off with people still insisting on getting the terrible Creative Audio adapters which is a joke... or being stuck with terrible ADI/soundmax audio which is a horrid nightmare... Via isn't really all that great imo too...
So many factors..
Either way.... One interesting thing to note is windows 7 or vista were generally never intended to run in basic visuals... the minute amount of resources used by using aero is meaningless unless your already well under the recommended system requirements..
However i've an old machine that orginally was built with windows ME/98se... windows 2000 was available.. and provided that i was able to install 2gb of ram in the bugger, this little Duron 700mhz with 2gb of ram and a decent 80gb hardrive with windows 7 will run full circles around the xp home sp3.... Mind you the ATI radeon x1650 helps considerably in pushing the aero glass interface exceptionally well. EVEN if the card is bottlenecked by the rest of the system.
Dual booting it is always interesting because it's a good test enviroment to show how good quality systems with windows xp and windows 7 compare..... Pretty sad when a machine built in 2000 is out performing some of the machines built today in terms of fluid use and responciveness.
