Unfortunately a lot of the top dogs botted a long time ago and do not anymore because they have reached a high enough level where they don't have to anymore. I'm sure if they still continue to do it, they will be caught.

I still see a number of top clans botting from 20-40 for rep points....
If a 3rd party program is used and NC runs a file check! New or missing info will stop that check!
If high lvl people get banned and just because they no longer bot lol they still cheated to get there! so BB Cheaters!

Not really "rather than". They use bots to win PvP too.

They need to ban all of IT and Varka, and then triple the mobs in Varka. It's a decent alternative to SV except no mobs, and with the automated toons, even fewer mobs.

It's a heck of a lot quicker to level a academy toon (even if you do it the legit way).
Killing 400+ people (plus the ones you have to earn back because someone on your side dies) takes a long time and quite a few people to achieve, if those same people all ran an academy toon to 40 they would get much more rep out of it.
I don't think any clan kills more than 500 wartags in a single day on a consistent basis. that's like 1 every 3 minutes, and while some pvp happens quick, there's a lot of dead periods.

Take into account the fun of pvp vs the risk factor involved, cons outweigh pros.

sure abou that? Bans are just for 7 day? so botters can take a 7 day vacations and botting again? what if they get busted a second time ? that would be another seven day ban o a perma one?

Actually, from what I remember about the contract outlines (yep, I read it for real!), NC doesnt specify about any non-perma ban period nor numerical limits for non-perma bans before getting a perma one; they just say that breaking rules COULD result in the deletion of your account and in some cases a permanent ban of your credit card if not just of your real life identity (prolly based on your name/birth date/birth place).
This makes me (ingenuously) think that L2 botters just stop botting after the first 2-3 non-perm bans. But this makes me (ingenuously) ask myself why we've been having so many botters around for so long.

Since it's all speculation, I will especulate that if they had a case with a bot that was solid they perma ban that accoun. But the toons who were in party with the bot where there's reasonable doubt or not a solid case they got this 7 days ban as a warning. Either way the fact that they are doing this is encouraging.

Might've misunderstood you, but what I mean is not that you dont get a perma-ban for using 3rd party sw, but that you, as RL person, dont get perma-banned.
I mean, an account might get perma for botting, but it's pointless if the person who was botting can make a new account using the same credit card/name.
i think, these days, money is a big or only considered factor. I'm pretty sure the game has been around long enough to have made back all the money NC soft spent in development costs to make the game. So ,aside from the payroll for server upkeep and small amount of newly generated event content, NC soft turns a profit every month when accounts get renewed. What I'm trying to get at is, A bot account is worth just as much as a legit account and there aren't many accounts these days. I'm sure that if they went crazy banning bot accounts and credit cards, you would see plenty of "legit" players suddenly disappear. I think more people bot than you know, with alt. accounts or with their main when no one is looking. So your wanting NCsoft to take 25-50%(fake number but i think relative to the people who bot and don't bot) of the total amount of players and throw them out the window along with the $15.00 * X amount of accounts they make from each month? I dont see that happening. Not now. That's just bad business. They want their profit. They will make a show now and then with banning a few accounts to make it seem like they are
"taking care of business" but I think its all a front.
You can solo RB's for academy toons way faster than botting them. My alt clan has 8k rep points from doing that for a break from the grind. (WTS, I don't need them.)
