I have had a toon since C1 with a certain name. The first merge we had I was able to login and secure the name once again. This last merge was no different. I raced to get my name back and i was the first one to get it. The name has been the same and on the same toon without ever being deleted or remade. There have never been extra letters or numbers in the name. That name was mine! I have logged her in a ton since the merge and her name has been fine. I even ran around FOG plenty since the merge with friends who all witnessed her name still being intact. Well today I get to my login screen and it appears a GM as suddenly added letters to the end of it! Now I know NC soft is known for it's terrible customer service but stealing my name that I have had forever?! Seriously?! That name is not inappropriate by any means. It's cute and I'm sure someone else wanted it and petitioned for it. They might of even had a toon named that as well. But I've had that name since C1 and I was the first to request it on this server. What gives them the right to take it? How could you fail me so bad NC soft? This is the last straw for me after the TW badges and many past issues being handled badly at best. I refuse to be disrespected any more. I only regret giving you my time and my love for so many years. Good luck to you masochists that can endure better than I.

sry bro ,but GMs are human beans.....thay are arogants and ignorants sometime ,becouse they are just humans:)
Haylee, have you send a support ticket for this? I do not think the GMs would change your name unless there was a conflict with another character having the same name.
yeah... if they were using it before c1.. say beta or closed perhaps. .lol... well.... while i'd be a little upset ... i couldn't argue the logic of giving the name to someone that even predated me

LOL ... "I do not think" that is the real problem. You would think though that considering as many people that come on her complaining about the lack of support you would stop telling people to send a support ticket when they fail more often than not. (Just my opinion though. Looking forward my post to be deleted as it was just an opinion.)
Haylee, have you sent a support ticket for this? I do not think the GMs would change your name unless there was a conflict with another character having the same name.
First thing i did was send in a ticket. I sent a ingame petition and one via the officially site.
From all of my reading I should have the right to keep this name:
"Character Name Retention:
In the character selection screen, you see that your character has a number at the end of their name which was not there before the merge. This means that you have a character name conflict. If you don't have a new number at the end of your name, you're fine, and you can log into the game.
When you select a character that has a name conflict, a message box will pop up explaining that there is a character name overlap. It says "Please enter a new name for your character."
You can enter in your original character name! This will check and see if the name is still available.
If you are the first person to request that name, you will get it! Then you can log in with that name. "
I had the name pre-merge and I reclaimed it first!
Sace:
"The name-stealing appeals process is to prevent abuse of the "free" name-changes that some players will be prompted for.
Name-stealing doesn't mean that you maliciously tried to steal another player's name on purpose; it could have happened innocently. Either way, players who had a certain name before the merge will have more right to reclaim it after the merge, more right than someone who is just taking advantage of the opportunity to rename their character. "
Since i did have the name for so long, it was NOT a case of name stealing and should not be treated as so! Name conflict and name stealing are two very different issues!
Or someone in fact had the name prior to the OP, and the OP is just **** out of luck.
That's BS. Unless the op is just completely outright lying, it doesn't matter who had the name first if both toons were 'legitimate'.
In this event where 2 players are called the same thing, he/she who gets there first, gets the name. I don't remember it being the he/she who 'petitions' first gets it. It just appears to be exactly as Coth suggested.
Still we all know how good NC Soft are about petition wars...
... and screwing things up in general. Ma' TW badges ready yet? Little grey things that live in ma' quest bag, with all this other stuff you seemed to remember to transfer? Little things you use to buy things from an npc that take an absolute age to acquire?
The forums seem to be the best place to complain to get quick action on your issue. Rather than waiting for a response from the ticket placed with support you will gather support from the community. Rally the troops to get your name retracted from the player who used support the proper way to retain their beloved name. It is a shame you donât have a website you can close to expedite the return of your cute name.
This is truly a sad day and I can only express my deepest condolences and hope the NCsoft gods can be summoned to resurrect your self-esteem. This is just a small suggestion and I am not sure if you have even thought of this option, pick a new name?

My ticket was answered and the GM said they can not show me favoritism by allowing me to keep my name... Even though I was the first to get it back on the new server. This is total BS in my eyes. But I was looking for a reason to to quit anyhow. Too many other things to be doing at my age here in Vegas. Good luck boys!
So if someone randomly petions saying that I took their name, which i had before merges, and got on merged server first to make sure i kept it, they get it anyways?

Mail me your stuff, I will put it to good use. Sorry something like this would make you throw away over 5 years of your time.
What level is your character? Is it your main or one of your main characters if you have more than 1 account?
Maybe the other character 1) made it before you 2) is more active 3) higher level, that's why they are more eligible for the name. The GM must've based it on something to give the other character their name back.
Well, I don't think the OP lied; but she manipulated what they should think when they read her post and then supported her as you see in those reply posts lol
The OP never mentioned what level her character is. I think that's something fishy in the first place.
She just said I even ran around FOG plenty since the merge with friends who all witnessed her name still being intact.
So if I have a character created before c1 and it's still level 1 now, that ran round FOG plenty since. Should I have more right compared to the other character that created after and is like level 83/79/78 etc...??

Right or wrong, NCsoft stated before the merge that if you managed to log in first and claim your old name you would be allowed to keep it. Toon age or level wouldn't be taken into account.
If NC now suddenly allow for special cases, where you can petition to get your name back if you think your char is higher level, or older, then they need to come out and say so. I have plenty of friends who'd like to try to get their names back.

Look around the forums, they have made several post with details on how you can dispute others with the same names. This was not something they came up with just for this Haylee issue. They planned ahead for how to deal with these sorts of conflicts.

And how are we determining that, sounds like a gray area?
I was able to avoid this issue. But no matter how you look at it, two people with the same name on different servers that have been around since the start of the game. Someones going to loose and that sucks....

I think it's mainly about the exp in total. I know a few people that got their name back after petitioning because they are 80+ main with subs. Obviously more exp means the character is being played more and the name (identity) is more important than lower level characters as they are most likely alts that not many people know.

I think you need to read those posts more carefully. "Name stealing" or "griefing", means something entirely different. It's when you knowingly or unknowingly choose a new name that someone already has a right to. If you previously had the name you're not stealing it. You are just reclaming it and no one can dispute your right to do that.
There will be an appeals process for those players who lose a name due to griefing or name-stealing tactics. If you lose a name due to griefing, send a support ticket and we will investigate the issue. If you lose a name and youâre not sure if it was through griefing or if it was a legitimate name-claim, send a support ticket so the GM team can investigate for you.

If the OP had the name since C1 and lost it to another player it is most likely not "Name stealing" or "griefing", I would like to believe they had more time served and/or higher level, which by any definition could not possibly be "Name stealing" or "griefing", but true squatter rights.
bs... time spent.. xp gained... subs lvled... SHOULD NEVER MATTER in this case..
IF 2 people from different servers have the same name... and have always had that name..... and one person logs in and reclaims it first..... the 2nd is out of luck..
There is NO circumstance AT ALL where a gm would suddenly retrack the name reclaimed and give it to the other.
it is a COMPLETE disreguard for the system in place.. and IF ncsoft allows this to stay as it is.... then it can and will be used as a president for other matters..
meaning 100's of others that have had the same name can and SHOULD have every right and reason to take the names they orginal had.
In which case what would happen is those that logged in first and reclaimed the name will lose and those that are 2nd or even perhaps 3rd/4th/5th also have the right...
NCSOFT is opening up a whole lot of problems if they do not resolve this issue ASAP

Honestly, we are just going back and forth over the definition of "Name stealing" or "griefing" and no matter what the true NCSoft meaning is I doubt it has anything to do with what actually occurred.
I tip my hat to Judas. NCSoft could use a president to impose rules or sanctions upon the player base that would in turn create a dictatorship, or a corporation ran by share holders which is governed by their parent country. That would be Korea in case anyone forgot.
If that is not your intent Judas, then I toss my hat in the rubbish. NCSoft makes the rules and their actions would only set some sort of precedence if they so choose. Just as they right the code, they also right the rules.
In addition, there are always three sides to every story; Hayleeâs side the other side and the truth.
So it's ok for level 80+ with subs to lose their name to an alt that's not being played (exp'd), because they have irl commitments? Doesn't this sound like musical chair. Then why don't the clan hall distribution use the musical chair rule as well? Whoever bids first wins?
Therefore if Judas, you lose your main character's name to a level 40 character that might be a sell shop or warehouse because you logged in after it. You will simply give up your main character's name that identifies your character for the past 5 years and just simply hand it over to that level 40 character without trying to get it back?
The OP never mentioned what level her character is. If it's a high level character where she invested a lot of time in, I'm sure she would have that detail over her post; like how she complained about losing her character's 'cute' name.

Ok, a character leveled to 85 in a year on one server (letâs say Bartz) and another character level 40 on (Aria) that has paid every month since April 27, 2004. Which one as the rights to the name?

If it's level 40 and hasn't been level for like 4-5 years; ofc the level 85 have more right to the name. Because obviously the character has not been played and the identity of the level 40 is not important in the server, the owner must have spent their time playing their 'main' characters rather than the level 40 alt.
High level characters their name = their identity; as people know you by it, people trust you by it, or even pk you by it :D Alt character name = it's just a name. No one really cares about that character maybe expect for the owner, but obviously not so much as he/she doesn't level it anyway.
If the OP cared about her 'cute' named character so much, she would already leveled it to 78+ possibly with subclass. Then she wouldn't be ranting here about "OMG the GM stole my character's name which I don't play, but I'm going to manipulate you guys and make you think that I play it ALOT since c1". Plus also you sure she didn't just reactivated her account before for the merge?
NCNA couldn't put detailed information of how the name should be distributed if there's a conflict except for the easy version (for them) that they put up; because if there's 6000 active accounts and each of them have 5 characters, that would be 30,000 character names that they have to sort out.
Even for the clan hall, do you really think that those inactive clan that owned the clan hall since beta (even after the merge) and they have paid all their weekly clan hall fee deserve it more than the level 11/10 clans with 100+ members?
Put in place the ultimate fairness system and make both change their name
Then NC might make 2 people quit, instead of the one that's throwing a tantrum and have a good chance of returning to the game lol; because obviously the character is not her main.

as a matter of fact, when i first started playing the game.. i had my orginal toon name on a few servers.. and while having used it for ages... i lost it after the first initial merge...
While it sucked, and was used by a sell shop for quite some time, i later found out that guy had it for quite some time as well....
slight modification to the name and i was back in business reguardless...
What i stated was the fair game policy... in which everyone reguardless of hours put in or anything at all, even if it's an alt... they had the name previously, they have every right to follow the guidelines that ncsoft submitted and log in first to retreive it..
In haylee's case... IF indeed she HAD the name, and it was her/his name from the beginning, and was able to get it after the merge, there is no reason at all for it to be changed later... she was first as per the guidelines set in place.
I was trying to make the point for every case, not specifically haylee's...
If haylee indeed did not have that name previously, then obviously she/he will have to make a change.
I'm sure there are guidelines for everything, but it doesn't mean that we have to stick to it as there are always exceptions. Guidelines are dead, but people are alive.
If NCNA only followed guidelines, then they don't need human GMs. They can use machines and robots. If guidelines were followed, we wouldn't be getting TW badges back; as all property belongs to NC. Then in that fact, NC have the power to do anything they want; even include giving whatever name they want to whoever they want. Isn't that our guideline everytime when we log in to play this game.
