As some people have mentioned, there has been a change in how certain in-game violations may be handled going forward.
Since the server merge, the GM team has been able to consolidate their efforts in patrolling and investigating reports of third party program users. As these efforts are increased, we have implemented a system which serves as a warning to those using third party programs and to those who run the Lineage II game client without Gameguard. Those that continue to use third party programs or play without Gameguard are at high risk of permanently losing access to their accounts. Those that heed the warning and play the game within the rules will be able to continue playing.
Please keep in mind, this is not a blanketed policy that means any character caught in the act of a violation will receive a warning. Our GM Team reserves the right to issue a warning and can permanently block accounts in situations where a violation warrants a permanent block.
As of now, we have temporarily blocked 338 accounts on Chronos and 403 accounts on Naia. Also, we have shutdown 37 accounts that were related to RMT. As a side note, any characters identified as being involved with RMT activity are not subject to the warning mentioned above. This type of activity will result in immediate and permanent removal from the game. Including RMT spamming, selling, farming, or supplying.

Sorry but I feel this goes against everything L2 is meant to be. So now if you bot you don't jepordize your account you get a freebie the first one or two times.
I woudnt bet on that. I am pretty sure trains get permanent ban, I actuall beat Moxie at the announcement thanking them for this new way.
It is not perfect but addresses both problems, our with cheaters, and theirs with reduced revenue. Any aproach that doesnt address both issues is doomed to fail this late, if they ban too many the game shuts down, if they dont ban will still shut down, just will last a few months more so they are effectively giving an amnesty in certain conditions. Second violation will be ban, first one is to demonstrate they know and can ban cheaters anytime.
I am convinced that this is the way to go, perhaps can be improved, but the general idea should work in principle.

Well if you look at the amount of accounts temp blocked since the merge, it would seem that there would be to many account banned to continue to offer the L2 game in the NA/EU market.
Unfortunately this is the result of non action the previous 6 years. Now its too late and too many people use the programs, potentially having a devastating affect on the player base of the game.
i like the fuss about disabling GameG. Every single one of your customers hate GameGuard, the massive lag , useless prog. Maybe you should understand why so many people are removing it and listen to your customers about the huge problems GG brings to the game.. Thanks.

If u are going to enforce then perma enforce. All us legits have withstood the treatment about this for far too long. If it means death to L2 becasuse of no player base cuz they are all banned then so be it.

I quote the above for effect, because by far the most common thing I see in PvP is people who are autospamming CP pots. Its quite easy to spot, I once had an 80+ dagger hit me while I was playing a lowbie sps when I had that reflect dmg water selfbuff on, he got what must have been about 12 dmg reflected, and his char immediately started spamming CP pots. Its quite obvious in seiges too.

Moxie, while the update is nice and I hope that there are more updates like this will be posted but, on other boards where on this forum a post about advertising a mod vote, they are LOL at you for the temp bans.
With luck we will see another post saying "well the temp bans turned to perma bans after we investigated further... and btw we are now averaging about 500 perma bans a week to clean up the servers".

WHY not 2-3-4-5 years ago when people would be easy to scare off and they wouldn't start massivly bot/cheat.
You guys seriously will ban me if I disable GG? Did you ever tried to play on Win7? I tell you: with GG, the whole PC lags, game freezes, many blackscreen, unable to play. Don't tell me you fixed this, cause I just checked and still got these with GG (and no, its not my PC's problem). You can't play normally L2 on Win7 with GG so don't ban cause of that or fix it, thank you.

There are many other ways to hunt bots by checking them at the packet level (bots send packets in invalid format). Localhost suggested it about 3 years ago with the examples of incorrect packets, but your decision was that you would not implement the automatical system of checking packets.
2. Why do players use radars?
a) The first radars appeared when GCP reuse was shortened to 0.5 seconds. Some classes like archers can easiliy spam F1/F2/... while performing other actions, but some classes like healers cannot do that. The result was the software automatizing clicking F keys.
But there is another solution: implement GCP/CP use like auto soulshots. For example, in RF online such short-reuse potions are used automatically.

So, should we understand that getting levels by cheating is OK, but PvP programs not ? Why, because ppl need to "pwn" legits at least using level difference ? Because they suck at PvP with really "Pr0" bots ? Because they dont know how to setup them ? Or they know but dont get "Pr0" setup ?
Why do you think the ppl like me leave bots get the PK point always ? It takes a lot of strenght to resist provoking, a lot of self-control to not "defend" yourself, it is easy to PvP, much harder to resist it and uphold your principles.
Why do you think bots are botting ? Not for Antharas or Valakas, but to "pwn" legits and lesser bots, to prove they are the best. They can prove this in PvP, but if all legits would resist the urge to PvP they would be forced to fight only other bots, this means that the bots with best Ranger setup will win, the ones that suck at scripting will soon quit because there is nobody left to "pwn", PKing chars that tell them GF and come back to be PKed more is boring and sooner or later there will be some death and drops.
No, sir, I wont dance by bot tune, as long as they are not banned our clan will have the no-pvp rule no matter the pressure put on us, we will be the ones that will put up the most annoying pressure on bots, we will use passive resistance and all legits should do it in protest, i havent heard yet of any legit clan that managed to destroy bot clans in PvP, it was always the other way.

Don't care about botting, it actually helps the game in some way, but the auto-CP/Heals and target in mass-pvp is so ****** up now. I can't run into a grp of enemy without 2-3 DD's target me and hit me as I am a Cardinal. And we talking mass pvp 100 vs 100, but then again, it been like that for over a year of what I can remember.

I play with GG since it was introduced. I do have ocasional problems, like windows pop up telling me there was a problem running GG, sometimes when i fire up second client it has from start the problem with gg, but that is happening like 3-4 times a week and I have cleints on more than one computer most of the day and night, why I dont have (in general) problems with GG and others have ? Maybe my GG is better than yours, or maybe it is because I dont cheat, i dont know...

If it works on your computer, it does not mean that it works on all computers. And hope NCSoft will not screw up the game the game like Innova where players get autoban for playing L2 under Win 7 or watching PowerRangers.avi movie.

Seriously, GG works on Win7. Playing here for ages on Win7 x64, even with several clients open and with Vent in background, plus itunes/browser open on second screen. It works. Or, better, it SHOULD work. Maybe your computer is messed up.

It is simple.
Top clans players are close to 85 (or already are 85/100 with subs close to 80 ) and they dont care bot any more :)
Even if they get banned they were buying "ready to use" char 83+ :)
So most of them see punishable offence in 3rd pgm for PvP since is "not fair".
Especially is "unfair" since GM started check PvP recently and some afraid use and same time some are so brainless and still using it :)

well, if its not your pc's problem then maybe it is your internet connection or something. I dont know.
But I play 2 accounts on my 1 pc using Win 7 64 bit version & L2 & Gameguard runs just fine for me.
GG problem was at beginning of W7.

At least I tried successfully run at W7 and had no problems.

There is no auction system in L2 => players have to run their computers 24/7 for trade.
I have FTP server on my computer, I also doing my work on my home computer. But GG blocks some functionality. For example, it is not possible to debug programs or open FTP control panel while GG is running. Computer also falls into bsod after ~3-10 days of uptime due to system service failure.

I am IT manager and I buy/sell my personal computers very often because I have many friends that cant afford to buy new and trust me i will give them the right ones for the right price. It woked on every single one, including vaio 4.5 inch one with intel 945 chipset.
It works on netbooks, laptops, Duron 1100 512 SDRAM or it did a few months ago, even tho very sluggish, enough for shops tho.
If it does not work on yours but you know how to disable GG and not fix windows, then we already have an answer. It starts with a B...

hate to say it but you need more ram then GG will be less of an issue, it's still a hog of resources but you can play the game..
As expected, so many "!!!..." and "...!!!!????" and "..... !!! ... !?..." posts and so on. I want to say, that among all who posted here already we can find at least 2-3 cheaters. More rage posts are approaching :)
GG sure is more a bad thing, rather than a good one. But L2 uses it for ages and only after bot monitoring update you start to flame about it in such a way. For those who knows, it is a "b...hurt".
I don´t like GG because he have quite big memory usage and stops normal programs like Chrome or MPC (i can play music, but not video files). A even so i running L2 with him, i sometimes ask myself why. Look at this guy here (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=211684) the GG can´t let him the play the game.
Okay, thanks for the update and information. It seems that instead of perma banning, they are getting a warning first then the second instance of being caught running a bot is perma banning. imo, that's a good thing and may encourage people to stop botting once they are caught the first time. Hence, keeping the player base of L2 higher for a longer period of time.
The proof is in the pudding, now that you've brought this to our attention we will be watching the progress and expect to see results.
I'm sure that the automated PvP programs are classified as bots although some players don't realize it. I'm sure we'll see a decrease of these as well. I'm sure the timing of your post just before TW and Sieges is to ensure all users of all programs are getting a fair warning of the crack down before these PvP events start - good job.
I think this "pre-ban" solution is a good option. Many people use 3rd-party-soft, but most of them would play the game also without it. The point is to do this monitoring continuesly, not "ban-hammer"-style - we did it once maybe we do it once again.
The only thing I would advice to do is to make more than one step of pre-ban. For example 1st - 7 days, 2nd - 1 month, 3rd - permament ban. This is because not everyone can understand a warning from the first time - too long time the 3rd-party-gaming was "allowed" so these people need a hard sign, second notice to understand the seriousity of the situation. 1 month ban is a good solution for it.
Second thing I would like to speak about is the use of auto-cp/targeting... this issue must be solved apriori if we want to see healthy pvp-gaming.

when i say "ok" i mean for the temporrary ban 7 days.i dont see a reason to give 7 days ban to someone that he pvp watching the ranger do all things.if u think why then ppl botting or lvling like mad?to go 85 and start using auto things?if not then all stay 70 lvl and do raids every day like c3-c4 and some roleplay
sry but im not from those one who play for pve,my pleasure is pvp,and when i cant do it fair im getting mad.
for excample when i target the enemy bishop,the whole grp imediatly have me on target and do me nukes/stuns/hate/agression,sorry this isnt fun.Or when a bishop try to cast mass rez,u see all enemies attack him,the same happen with mages when they gona put a bubble.

from 11 servers down to 2, i can't even remember how many friends quitted because they couldn't compete with bots, and when you wipe 1 bot train to xp, the botted up 85/80/80 enforcer comes pk you with the full sweep of "PvP outsourced tools"

Moxie, while the update is nice and I hope that there are more updates like this will be posted but, on other boards where on this forum a post about advertising a mod vote, they are LOL at you for the temp bans.
With luck we will see another post saying "well the temp bans turned to perma bans after we investigated further... and btw we are now averaging about 500 perma bans a week to clean up the servers".

Why would the RMT bans be the Giran shouters? What is the point in banning trial accounts?
The RMT bans are most likely the actual toons selling the adena, not the toons advertising them...
The only thing I would advice to do is to make more than one step of pre-ban. For example 1st - 7 days, 2nd - 1 month, 3rd - permament ban. This is because not everyone can understand a warning from the first time - too long time the 3rd-party-gaming was "allowed" so these people need a hard sign, second notice to understand the seriousity of the situation. 1 month ban is a good solution for it.
I agree with this part too, for too many years bots have been allowed - if they haven't been allowed then the enforcement and monitoring of bots by the L2 Staff has really sucked over the years!
The reason why more than one warning with proportionally increased punishments is that if NCSoft states that bots haven't been allowed then players are going to think that this new stance is a joke, because some have been botting for many years and never banned . . . so they get a warning and heck, it will be many years before they get caught a second time (based upon history/their experience). SO if enforcement is being ramped up then you'll need to show it.
when i say "ok" i mean for the temporrary ban 7 days.i dont see a reason to give 7 days ban to someone that he pvp watching the ranger do all things.if u think why then ppl botting or lvling like mad?to go 85 and start using auto things?if not then all stay 70 lvl and do raids every day like c3-c4 and some roleplay

for excample when i target the enemy bishop,the whole grp imediatly have me on target and do me nukes/stuns/hate/agression,sorry this isnt fun.Or when a bishop try to cast mass rez,u see all enemies attack him,the same happen with mages when they gona put a bubble.

Actually, ppl that never botted are level 83 only among those that I know in Franz since start, obviously there are 85 levels some place else. I was not interested much in level, yet I have 2 chars level 80++ and didnt do second epic yet. I dont level except when a prty needs me, but that was not the point, the point was that ALL 3rd party programs are forbidden, not just some. And botting did kill the game because when we were A grade and many others, bots were already 80 and wiping full parties with only one char. Now they need a full train, true, but t is still frustrating and ppl still quit because of this.
If you pleasure is PvP you should either bot or quit, sorry. At least till all bots are banned. Most PvP legits did that already long ago.

Giran is already dwindling, and the player base is already going down. It's their job to adhere to their policies, but maybe they should revise it a bit. The game is already dying, just a few weeks after the merge...
As some people have mentioned, there has been a change in how certain in-game violations may be handled going forward.
Since the server merge, the GM team has been able to consolidate their efforts in patrolling and investigating reports of third party program users. As these efforts are increased, we have implemented a system which serves as a warning to those using third party programs and to those who run the Lineage II game client without Gameguard. Those that continue to use third party programs or play without Gameguard are at high risk of permanently losing access to their accounts. Those that heed the warning and play the game within the rules will be able to continue playing.
Please keep in mind, this is not a blanketed policy that means any character caught in the act of a violation will receive a warning. Our GM Team reserves the right to issue a warning and can permanently block accounts in situations where a violation warrants a permanent block.
As of now, we have temporarily blocked 338 accounts on Chronos and 403 accounts on Naia. Also, we have shutdown 37 accounts that were related to RMT. As a side note, any characters identified as being involved with RMT activity are not subject to the warning mentioned above. This type of activity will result in immediate and permanent removal from the game. Including RMT spamming, selling, farming, or supplying.

TBH I just wish you'd permanently remove gameguard =/.
I think it's pretty obvious that it doesn't keep anyone from cheating regardless and makes everyone suffer for no reason. Having seen tests of clients running without gameguard in the past it is obvious that is just decreases the overall performance of l2. Man up and remove that junk from our computers so we can have smoother sieges and load times (in giran especially).
Either NC found a detection method which results in every voilator will receive a warning within 24 hours to make them aware that they are on the watchlist (which I strongly doubt tbh) or....
NC had to many issues going with banning accounts which they could not confirm to be voilators for 100% and had to set the banned accounts active again when subscribers filed their complaints at customer organisations like BBB or even bring it to court.
Afterall when a lawyer or a customerorganisation like BBB files a complaint, NC needs to do full investigation, which takes a lot of resources in time and money. Issueing temp ban's to subscribers that can not be confirmed 100% voilators will atleast save a lot of time and money.
Accounts will be unbanned again before (wrongly ??) accuised subscribers take legal actions.
We'll see where this change of policy will bring us.....

Some days ago I was having a very unpleasant experience with GameGuard. I was in game, then suddenly a message saying GameGuard files are blablabla and everytime it happened it locked all my actions (yes, if I was fighting a mob I was dead) forcing me to click the OK button exiting the game, and everytime it happened I had to reboot PC cause I couldnt log again. Happened several times, I really got ******. Did check files twice (deleting system folder included) and nothing. Got ****** and stoped playing, the next day I tried to play and didnt had the problem again. Several clannies had this issue as well.
NCSoft, remove GameGuard from Lineage 2. It does NOT block 3rd party softwares (bot software), all it causes is trouble to ppl that want to play the game.
Gameguard is blocking Google Chrome from working while l2 is running. why? pls fix, or remove this piece of <3 software that NEVER done what it was meant to do.

No, ppl, your bot software DOES disable GG and GMs KNOW this, they know it without checking individualy, just have at all time an overall view on how many use GG, how many dont and who is simulating it.
Man up and play with the official client, you already have a huge advantage over legits, you can PK us at will, why would you continue to cheat then ? You will never catch the best cheaters, they will always be one step ahead of you so you will only be able to fight legits even if you cheat.
Saying you cant play with GG is just BS, there are tons of legits that do, are they smarter than you ? Come on...

useless :( as far as I know atm only small amout of players use bot and if then with simulated GG. means if u dont allow to log in w/o GG it would probably block only chinese farm trains. the majority of the high-end players are using "radars", programms that running with normal GG. it's possible to set up not only gcp-spam/auto-assist for pvp, but also use these or similar functions for pve. we need a solution how to block this kind of 3rd-party-soft since it makes about 90% of cases of using illegal progs :mad:
I want to point it out: Block the possibility, not the users! This way we will keep the game and community, but also get a legit gaming!
I've seen odd behavior lately from some of my favorite bot groups. After reporting them every week or two for 6 months you get to feel like they are old friends. Recently I saw one of those groups standing around out side the area where mobs spawn. Maybe taking a meal break, or a bio.
Also, noticed toons logging out when my toons come by. It's not like my clan tag looks anything like any of the big PvP clans, but a lot of toons seem nervous, others seem quite friendly. I've also noticed that more often now, I come upon hunting areas which have drops lying there, but no toons in sight. That could be due to the higher server population. Areas which formerly had no toons, now have more, and some are leaving for Newbie buffs or something just before I come by. I'm sure they didn't leave because they saw me coming, since I couldn't see them.
I suspect one reason that NC doesn't instantly ban bots is so they can check if the bots are part of the adena farming/selling business. While some of the adena comes from players 'cashing' out of L2, or from stripping hacked accounts, a lot is gathered by low level and maybe high level bots, who also sell the basic mats gathered on seller toons in Giran and other towns.
I think the biggest surprise, which is probably a direct result of the GMs actions is that Chronos where I now live, doesn't have 5 times the bots that I was used to seeing before.
If anything, there seem to be fewer bots now than before. It could be that the other 4 servers were completely bot free, but I can't see them having a negative bot population, so I'm sure that NC's efforts, and their warnings are having a good effect.
NC could do more. There is no category of Petition to report suspicious money transactions, though the one toon I saw possibly delivering adena, and a seller toon in Giran with a very similar name, both disappeared before the merger, so maybe the GMs didn't need me to Petition.
There are several other things I can think of which would hinder some common botting practices. I'm not sure why NC has not done them, but maybe it's not a problem in Korea, but I'll not suggest them here. These things are best delivered as a surprise, with little or no warning.

Bots already cry that soon we will need a merger because bot bans. We needed this merger because of bots, period. IF GMs really do something like they started and not only that dont stop, but intensify their actions, we will need new servers.
Many ppl in privates and in russian servers play there because bots are not allowed enduring other hardships but not so bad than bots. If bots will no longer be allowed here, there are still tens of thousands of ppl playing on privates that would come here as soon as they hear the policy changed. That together with microtransactions will offer enough money to NC so they will support again this great game. It is not all lost yet, it is not too late to block (rather than ban) the bots.

All of this is great. However, what about drawing new people into the game. Coming back to the game after a few years absence, I was able to do in two weeks what took me six months back then(level from 1-44 solo).
Now I am not altogether happy with this fast leveling, as it cuts alot of the fun exploration which happens at those early levels. But I will not follow that line further.
So what to do about drumming up interest? Does NCWest care? Things offered in game does not shout the name Lineage 2 in the streets. How can NCWest bring people back to the game without looking like a WoW ripoff(which anyone who has played it since C3 or so knows).
How about unbanning some of those good folk that accidentally got the ban hammer. Guys like Rickman who created the Stabby McStoo comics. That was an abysmal screwup on the part of the NCWest staff.
Send out emails to all the old folk inviting them back.
Keep up the efforts to eliminate botting. There is no reason why L2NA cannot be bigger and better than L2Kr.
Implement some of the cool offerings which might have not made it over to L2NA yet.

I know everyone says this is a 6 year old game blah blah, but its still fun and doesn't show its age like other games, EG dark age of camelot etc, graphics are always updated.

They don't help the game in any single way apart from kill it due to lack of competition since the cheaters win, PvE bots keep people playing and feed the economy at least but PvP bot KILLS the game. Even the makers of the traditional bot programs deliberately designed them not to work to a huge advantage in pvp since they didn't want them killing the game.

No, don't let PvE botting be "ok", but remember checking for PvP bots is much easier than PvE bots since they're newer and different programs. :)

This is XP inflation to descrease the gap between low and high level players.
Without this system new players will never reach old players.
PvE botting benefits those PvPers who won't play the whole game. Whose only interest is PvP, getting Hero in Oly or maybe doing Epic raids. They don't want to spend a month or 2 getting materials and parts for an S80 weapon on their own, or with Clan or friends. They want to buy ready made weapons, mostly with adena bought on line.
That's not to say that all the PvPers do that, but some do. They also don't play their toon, or at least its lower level subs, but bot or loan their toons to farmers to level up. They are too busy or too lazy to play L2. They are too busy or too lazy to learn to play their toon at PvP as well, so are a ready market for those selling packaged PvP bot programs. They are also too lazy or busy to learn to program their own bots.
And there are some very good bot programmers playing L2. Some botters are newbies, and make newbie mistakes with their bot programs. Those are easy to spot. Others are much harder. I've spent up to an hour watching groups which I suspect are botting (parties which never change composition, seem to be playing 24/7 for months) and have still not seen a positive proof that they are botting and not playing those toons live. Up against those master programmers, even if PvE botting was allowed, most players would not stand a chance, and for the PvP crowd, it would be just there to level their toons to 85/80/80/80 or any other new lvl cap.
I'm not paying NC so a computer program can play L2. If Walker and his friends want to play, they can get their own accounts and pay for them too. I pay to play and if I can't enjoy playing, can't get stuff from Manor because it's fully botted up, can't hunt in the good spoil areas cause they are full of bots, well there are other things I can do with my time and money.
Better than legalizing PvE botting, just make the game so when you create a new toon, and kill a Gremlin, instead of going to lvl 2, your toon goes to lvl 85. When you turn in the item from the Gremlin, you get a set of S80 gear appropriate to your toon. To make up for the money NC would lose not having accounts botting to those high levels, sell account services, like make sub lvl 75 for $25.00; or make sub lvl 80 for $100.00 & $200.00 gets you lvl 80 and S80 gear for your sub. The end result would be the same. Except, PvE players might stay in the game, leveling up their subs instead of mains, and the PvPers would still complain about the PvP bots and not have time to learn to play their high level toons, or get the uber gear to compete with those who have the time and energy and programming skills.
NC needs to set some rules and play by them, if they expect players to do the same. While cheating for personal advantage is epidemic in North America and Europe, it is also not liked by both those who do it and those who don't, when they are receiving the negative effects. I think NC here recognizes that problem. I hope they can do enough to fix it. It's not like they have no other companies competing to take their present and future paying player away from them.

You guys seriously will ban me if I disable GG? Did you ever tried to play on Win7? I tell you: with GG, the whole PC lags, game freezes, many blackscreen, unable to play. Don't tell me you fixed this, cause I just checked and still got these with GG (and no, its not my PC's problem). You can't play normally L2 on Win7 with GG so don't ban cause of that or fix it, thank you.
I use windows 7 AND still have the out of the box L2 running. so your problems are elsewhere..

That is funny, because I remember farmers being the death of the game. I remember people switching to programs because Chinese players could run 24/7 using shifts of people to constantly play.
I just want to say that I signed on due solely to this thread.
I decided to try this game after watching a "first look" video by MMOhut. I tried the free trial and I loved this game. From reading the forums and reading about the bot issue I decided not to play. I stopped after 3 days of my 14 day free trial. Then I went to play on a private server. I found a great one btw.
Once I read that NCsoft is starting to take actions on bots, I immediately signed on.

It was always this question, should we lose the bots or the legits ? So far the answer was standard: Legits are fewer, we should protect the bots because they bring most revenue even create special places for them, block the legits from annoying us with the useless reports, etc.
Now they saw that without legits bots dont have a future either, because the vast mojority finds fun in game in PvP (actually executions) of legits. Once they are out bots have only other bot to fight and it aint fun to see that after you reached 85/80/80/80 you still cant do anything against master scripters even if you use scripts too.
Instead of a contest of in game skill PvP is nowadays a contest of scripts, best scripter wins. PK of legits doesnt give anything near the level of fun that PvP gives when you have victory assured.
Who would play this game apart from best scripters which are just a few and will leave too when they see there are no victims anymore ?
NCSoft looks like is waking up to reality. Whether this is too late we will see, it probably is if they dont do much better, but I know for sure the game can be saved if they are putting really smart and dedicated ppl to do it.

P.S. I am sick and tired of explaining bots dont have ANY function in game, if mats are hard to obtain price will adjust upwards, but with manor done by legit ppl there will always be enough mats as well as revenue for spoilers and lowbies.

Giving a chance for bots with temporary ban is stupid. U just give them the desire to auto-exp till they receive a ban temporary message (as already posted on Blah, btw). If u catch on walker it should be PERMA BAN, nothing else.
Also, as already pointed, the auto cp spam/auto target/auto assist. Its to easy to find. Just start check the top dog PvPers. Not all, but the majority use programs for sure.

We hear your concerns about difficulties you may have with running GameGuard, however, at this time, GameGuard is a part of the Lineage II client and you'll need to comply in running it.
In regards to GG not working with Chrome, I know in the past we have advised players to contact INCA (GG) to request this be addressed. We will submit a request to have this addressed as well. Please keep in mind a resolution to this is in the hands of INCA and GameGuard.

In regards to GG not working with Chrome, I know in the past we have advised players to contact INCA (GG) to request this be addressed. We will submit a request to have this addressed as well. Please keep in mind a resolution to this is in the hands of INCA and GameGuard.

Nah, only me and boxed SE was in SV. I was in the big party only for chatting. And no, at 79 I think SV is the best place to exp specially for the very nice adena drop. But nothing of it have to do with the purpose of the screenshots, wich is to show the lame GG error.
I assumed that was the case - or doing the old school theory that a distance party helps with drops.

omg man......every program which tricking players is bad, but is long way to eliminate ranger,radar etc.....spectacular GM's activity is simple banning GG jumpers and l2w......rest modern programs are safety,btw gm's have good statistic,to fight with the bots.
sorry, but look's like not many people here as well as nc soft team know the reality. it's rather easy nowadays to hit lvl 85 w/o botting. who was botting and havent get banned already is 85.100 now and dont need to bot anymore. bot now is only useful to set up a personal farm train on a single pc. for all other situation pve and pvp high-end users use "radars" which are working with GG. once again: GG is useless. Find another program like "Frost" on Russian Servers to protect us from playing vs these programs.

What I don't get, is with so many players reporting bots over the past 5 or 6 years. Why is it now so much easier to determine if a player is a bot or not?
I know the gaming world is smaller but that doesn't take away that players pointed the GMs to bots and the GM didn't have to wander around the map looking for bots.
I don't buy into this "the world is smaller and now we can find bots easier because of it" stuff. Maybe someone would believe it if they had never petitioned a bot but for those of us that have petitioned many of the same bots year after year only to see the toon still AFKing it then what's up?
What's the real reason why so many more players are reporting on different forums that they are getting temp bans? What's changed?

I dont suspect anyone being banned for nothing. But of course, my "nothing" may differ from yours. Perhaps using ******** to level is nothing for you, only PvP programs should be reason to ban, or RMT transactions, whatever. Every cheater thinks that his way is the correct one and only others cheat. Few admit they are cheaters, even then they dont like to be reminded.

Are they ? I have seen much fewer trains these days. Perhaps event, perhaps temp bans, perhaps gms wondering in the world as elpies, dunno, hope it lasts :)
Apart from one guy lying dead for one hour we were there in SV today (Apple from TNT) I havent seen anything suspicious the whole day. Maybe the fear is guarding the watermelons ? (Romanian saying :P ) Or temp bans really raging on ?

it is not easier. Checking who has GG and who has not should be automatic and GMs should have a panel where they see all time list of chars that dont have it, but that will fill now 100 pages of 20 rows.

Hey Moxie, when a GM team member makes a mistake and bans a wrong account what action is taken against that gm or do they even have to answer for any? Since you have no real bot tool I would think this happens or do GM's never make this mistake?

giran gatekeeper, there are usually at least 1 or 2 bots spamming infomercials on adena sites don't need to go much further if u want to find a bot
What I don't unterstand is why system let ppl login with bot programme or radar.
You should not let them login at all.If they could not login they would not have been banned.Then all will login legit and game would be fair for all.
What we see here is you let a system broken work by letting ppl use 3rd party programmes and then you talk about bot reports and you ban some of them for your own reasons because if you really had to ban all accounts with programme you would have lost a lot of custommers.
This is how thinks looks and you dont do anything for this.
Personally I dont think that game can be cleared now from programmes because even legit players need bots when they go Giran and buy ready 1k mithril alloy to just click their craft,they also accept benefits of botting.
This discussion has no end between each other,NC must give a solution and they trick us with bot reports etc.

well i just got banned for botting but has it hurt any one??? just to get to lvl 54 from lvl 52..have i really affected lineage2???
i mean i didnt make any money off of botting since had to waste them on ss
i wasnt taking others player lvling spots since there was no one where i was botting
soo ok people think its un-fair to bot since they they done it the right way with out botting but those people have the time to play
all day or have many hours on their time..but there are other people like me who have to go to school(college) and work and doesnt
give me enough time to play and if i do get to play i dont really know any one to group with and usually clan member are alreay
end game lvl.so i end up grinding by myself wich gets really boring after a while...and i dont have top gear for my lvl so im no able to go
and kill higher lvl than me wich give alot more exp than what im getting and i cant also bring the mobs down as fast as any one who has

problem is game guard blocks keyboard software, some antiviruses, and if you are programer few programming compilers.
It seems Gameguard is that old software that blocks all except bot programs.
Even I being semi experienced programer can write somthing better than Gameguard.
So you can be legit playing live and get ban after game guard crash running some usefull aplication while all botter laught at you being able to launch their programs with gameguard turned on.

those bots are often used to PK players. Equipment of this bots is usually trash and the money goes to another Char on a other account. And if that bot reaches a certain LVL it will become a legit Char via Namechange.
You guys seriously will ban me if I disable GG? Did you ever tried to play on Win7? I tell you: with GG, the whole PC lags, game freezes, many blackscreen, unable to play. Don't tell me you fixed this, cause I just checked and still got these with GG (and no, its not my PC's problem). You can't play normally L2 on Win7 with GG so don't ban cause of that or fix it, thank you.

Symantec End Point Protection routinely detects GG as male-ware and forces it closed. True Story.
I think the most want Gameguard vanished so that they can use bots.

After a few months of paying the game and the bot software, supposed GMs are getting afraid again and dont ban you, you will have level 85 and then go PvP with geat you buy because botting wont give you adena, or not enough anyway.
Then what will happen, Pr0 bots, the ones that "turned legit" and use use only "manual botting" i.e. they are at pc when bot levels for them or use PvP programs (not afk, of course) appear and you are defeated pronto, no matter what programs do you use, no matter what gear and how much +++ skills you have. Only the best bots win in PvP against other bots, you will be able only to PK legits because PvP between bot and legit is most of the time PK without penalty.
Most legits are hardened veterans being able to resist so many years in such a cheater infested environment and wont even care and ignore you. So who will listen to your bragging ? You sure haven't played on Chronicles 4 or before, don't you? Leveling from 1 to 76 was hundred times harder than 1->85.100 now. And as history shows it, by the times of Prelude and until maybe C5 we had insane amount of players.
So it's really obvious to get what exactly ruined this game.

huh!nice to reading what ppl wanna say about bots.siege on naia was great and really was maestry top clans used ranger.i do saw when bd make hide was great when i do target darksneider or some from his pt in 1/1000s whole his pt hit me:)
so anty bots updates probably dosnt work .unfortunatly ours staff make lot of work eliminate some problems for 1 week penalty but top of iceberg have fun,and nobody will cut ranger as well.

This game is chock full of hypocrites from the management and GM's who let certain people get away with botting for any variety of reasons right down to the purist gammers that think everyone has ten hours a day to do it like they did. I would gamble that 90% of the 80 plus chars on the game didnt get there entirely by legitimate means, most of thoses that I know didnt. All hail the Socialist Republic of NCSoft, that cant even muster up virtual toilet paper for most of us to wipe our behinds with! I think its time to go play a private server, funny you dont need to bot on them to get ahead and then all thats left is pvp which is they way it should be.

lets be clear for a moment: NC has always maintained a hands-off policy when it came to in-game economy. we were always free to demand 500m for a stem. greed fuelled the selling of adena, that same greed and power lust fuelled the buying of it.
it by no means precludes NC's fault for steep in game prices.
remember: gear in L2 provides pretty marginal benefits. 5% stat here, fixed amount stat there, tiny boosts, made bigger when chained together with buffs, with skills, etc. the thing is, those chains can be VERY big. those chains can do incredible things for the power of your character. the more bigger the chain is, the better you perform in PVP; this power acquisition is the reason people need always the next best gear. getting one step ahead of everyone else will mean forking over a huge wad though. because those of us who can provide that next step already are a step ahead of you. they are controlling how fast and how powerfully you rise.
in terms of botting - its an advantage. a step ahead of the people who cannot be there to level. same with programs for pvp. people who dont know what they are doing, or are slow to react, can use it to make them faster and better.
competing with gear vendors, bots and haxers is always an uphill battle, as theyve got a big leg up. but i maintain its still hardly NC's fault for making it so **** fun and powerful at top level.
the argument can be made they need to stop the bots and cheaters, but then who will step in and be the powerful people? the only people with a leg up on the competition will be people with 12 hrs a day to play. will we set the rule then like FF14 where you can PVE max 8 hrs per day ?
its the leg up that fuels your drive to be better, faster, smarter, more knowledgeable, and underhanded. its the reason you and i all play. you want to be like them, but you resent the fact they are botting and cheating in order to have that leg up.
no other MMO in existence has this amount of gap between people who legitly gripe that cheaters exist, and those who are actually really good at their game. of the zillions of updates that wow has had there really never is the issue that people are dominantly cheating to the top. yet each update brings some form of equation to the table where a thing has been modified to make the competition more fierce and players will have to use cunning and skill to succeed.
not like L2 where you are left holding the bag in S gear wondering why there are 3 armor sets and 2 weapon sets for lvl 84, but only 1 for S grade. you wonder who designed this game when so clearly there are bottlenecks and broken systems at play - spoiling metallic fibers in most 80 zones for instance..... when the best rate of spoil for almost every item is level 55, you have to winder why Bounty hunter is even a class that can level past 61.
and our complaints for these items goes mostly unacknowledged, nevermind heeded.

I stopped playing because I was playing on a dead server that kept dying more and more. After starting again I have noticed a decline in players around and after reading this post I am at a loss of words. Does the gaming community as a whole really believe this is whats best for the game? I for one do not and will consider letting my subscription run out. I play for the socialization and interaction and in order for that to be fun you need players. Knowing that you have banned 1,700 accounts in 12 days might make some people jump for joy but I can tell you right know this destroys games.

I'd prefer 1700 accounts banned for botting over 1700 accounts quitting because of bots.
And almost all of these banned accounts were either trial accounts of adena spammers or temporary bans anyway.
The only problem i have with gameguard, is that it doesnt allow me to use my mouse buttons to access skills. I have 6 extra buttons that i have on my mouse, to map to the F3-F8 buttons. When gameguard is enabled, I cant use these buttons with lineage II. Is there a way around this? I would like to be able to use these buttons as they make it easier to use certain skills at certain times.

I think the new policy means that these 1700 accts were not necessarily banned out of existence. They were probably banned for different amounts of time depending on the times they violated the EULA. They may have just gone poof for 7 or 14 days. For them to be perma banned means they repeatedly violated the EULA. These ppl should be gone imo. There really is no defense for botting for drops/quests, botting supports, or using PvP hacks.

L2 is at a point where it needs good moderation to survive in the longer term and NCSoft know this, anything less and they might as well get ready to shut the servers down.
Even if it is abit late, its good to see the rules actually being enforced. I hope they can keep up the good work because L2 is starting to be treated as, and feel like an actual competitive game again, something that was kind of lost from around the end of C4.

Totally agree, the bots from 1997 and earlier chronicles were at 84 by Gracia at least. And those botters who went on without proper justice fulfilled the level requirement they needed to dominate the server. Now, you decide to take action against this at the end of 2010, well into the Freya update?
Dont you think its a bit to late for this? Don't get me wrong here, but botter's have always got me upset, especially in Oly. But now its like trying to fight a war, after the war has been won already.
Think about this logically, if you had taken action against as many bots as possible before, in the earlier chronicles; the more people would have stayed in game and merges may not have needed to take place. Because I myself and many others believe that its pretty useless to go up against these bots who can work 24/7 to get where they need to be. I'm not only talking about Farming bots that were in the Catacombs and Necropolis', I'm also speaking about the top botters on the server, the ones who obviously had the advantage over all others. Not to mention, half of the bot's in the cata's and necro's worked to gather AA for the so called "legit" top players, because these trains there existed in the 7 signs were working to supply the player that was not in the catacombs. Think about it for a second.

thrue is what i see since few years,not numbers from the sky.
i see same chars (sometime with changed names),old boters,they using pp programs and maby some of them was banned.Banned but not for using pvp bots.
Anyway i dont realy care pve bots,they dont hurt me so much like pvp.
...its more in game problems for exemple:lags,losted badges,bugs nerfing some classes and make new classes with irrational skills etc.

And when I mean top players I mean hero farmers who participate then at PvP. Check names 2-3 years back and now.
Most of them gone banned or have "new" char.
And they bot PvE to bot/cheat/script in PvP .. :o
1)the "old" way ones:using bot to profit on lvl/adena/mats
2)the "new" way ones:using bot to profit on pvp via automatic reactions of skills/char auto target/lock down target/protect healers/anti-backstab/auto detect mass rez from enemy etc etc,all action on pvp but automatic.
people who participating:
1)is at most lowbies who want to get at a good lvl/max lvl so they can have a good chance on pvp and in better clan to get some epics/better gear.some of them is old banned boters.
Is most players who start l2 by using bot and they stop l2 again using bot,lets say its a way of playing for them,they didnt learn the magic of l2 on past chronicles(c1-c2-c3-c4) so they dont feel a lot,they just look the screen and be happy.maybe they are people who dont have enought time to spend greeding.

I have been using Vista Ultimate x64 for few years and haven't had any showstopper problems with GG. Sometimes you might have to start client second time because of an GG error but as far as I can remember I got those errors also with XP.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS, I can say that I have not any problems with GG. Everything works correctly.Before it I had Windows Vista 64 bit and had not any problems with GG too.
In fact, it works even "better" with a 64bit OS, since it's a 32bit application (as is L2) and it can't use the same dirty hacks to hide from the process list, thus not crashing the whole OS quite so often. :)
We hear your concerns about difficulties you may have with running GameGuard, however, at this time, GameGuard is a part of the Lineage II client and you'll need to comply in running it.
In regards to GG not working with Chrome, I know in the past we have advised players to contact INCA (GG) to request this be addressed. We will submit a request to have this addressed as well. Please keep in mind a resolution to this is in the hands of INCA and GameGuard.

How about disconects when GG runing? Why we need buy routers for play L2. I think connections issues with GG more important then Chrome. Another GG issue it's short freezes (2-5sec) when switch to another game window and it's can be lethal when doing aoe with boxed healer.
And what GG doing? It's don't block illegal software (bots/radars) so for block ppls who violate rules better use invalid packets detection. Not auto-ban system, but system wich will sent warnings to GMs when invalid packet detected for check this player. So like usual customer i don't see any pluses from using GG for protect this game but i see couple minuses. May be time for propose 2 game clients, one with GG and second without, and let players choose self what they like more?

Not really. The epics cost so much only because there are people that are willing to pay so much. Without the presence of the "new botters" in the economy the "old botters" are nothing.
Banning botters is the stupidest idea ever at this stage in L2. I gauranty 80% of the 80s playing now were botted up, and if you say otherwise you are a botter and a liar. I was speaking with a friend who plays and he plays with several of the top players on the US server. He told me clearly that they all bot. Coming from somebody who has used some "help" when they used to play L2 before server merges. Once the door opens for yourself, you get a big surprise to see how many people are on the other side, and there are a lot.
My point being... Banning a couple of bots does nothing, maybe brings back a couple of new players who then have to spend months leveling legit to barely get near the progress the previous botters who didn't get banned are at. It leaves an unfair advantage. It is far too late to try make this game legit.

That is my point though. The Damage is done. Evil has already won. Those who botted are already 80+. They are already rich with adena because of it. Banning gold farmers and Trains is pointless.
People are saying its good that botters got banned, but there is still a problem with 3rd party programs helping people in Oly. Those same people using programs to auto CP, I guaranty used Botting programs as well.
If everybody is so righteous about having this game be legit, the only way to make it so, is to reset all servers and remove all existing characters (of course everybody would quite because of so). When I was playing a year or two ago, the friends who I knew botted were the ones on the forums complaining of botters and farmers. I trust that it is no different today.
It's a losing battle, obviously. I think it is wise to at least leave the "threat" of a ban in the air, it helps keep some balance and guards against all-out botting. Pretty sure we all speed at least once in awhile but the majority of us do so in a somewhat cautious manner. There are a few (bleeps) who don't give a (bleep) about laws or public safety and drive as such but they are the exception and usually get caught... much the same for botters in the game.

If this will decimate the server population, so be it. The legit people will always find someone to play with, to siege with, and so on.

YESSSS !!!
However a few points worth noticing:
1. The policy of bans is a bad policy as proven in the past. The banned ppl will half quit official half will start another train. That will not solve the problem as long as they dont ban all cheaters. They always had this issue, ban the bots then see servers light all the time because legits dont play 24/7 and looks like a major loss, as well as subscriptions plumet so they say "hey, maybe it is not the time to ban them yet". That is a terrible policy, everybody knows taht the official servers in NA/EU are botted with impunity since day one and they stay like this till now. The word will only spread when bots wont be able to login anymore like in other servers, private or semi-private like the russian ones. Then we will see the real restart of L2, till then is a long and painful death.
2. There are a few solutions i highlighted in the past. One would be a legit server, new, where bots cant login, which will accept transfers only at a very high price and AFTER the account has been checked so it had no bot on ever, or no transfers at all. Wiping will frustrate many ppl, while opening a new legit server will give the opportunity to chose. Stay with the cheaters and never see endgame or start over and have at least some hope. This way bots will have their PvP high rate servers and we will have our normal ones. No prizes for a guess about which will have more ppl given a couple of months...
Another solution that wont solve the problem entirely but is a good compromise IMO is to stop cheating now and get an amnesty. Of course, once a cheater, always a cheater, so the bots will get caught and banned pretty quick, or we can prevent them from logging on in the first place, or make it so difficult that only the best programmers will be able to bypass protections and those will be caught by classical GM work, investigate reports and check in the fields.
In the light of recent GM involvement I would say that the legit server is the way, GMs will give buffs and vita+ running vita events very often there so the legits will get a boost to have at least 1 char high level in a couple of months, but obviously this will mean that the bots will not be allowed to log and if caught will get premanent ban, including all chars from same IP and in any way associated with the caught train.
I see NCNA chose none but the failed (so many times) policy of banning some and stopping short, albeit with some improvements, like a warning just to show they can ban cheaters whenever they want, just that they dont want yet. It remains to be seen if failure to take serious action again will kill the game or not. It probably will.

2. There are a few solutions i highlighted in the past. One would be a legit server, new, where bots cant login, which will accept transfers only at a very high price and AFTER the account has been checked so it had no bot on ever, or no transfers at all. Wiping will frustrate many ppl, while opening a new legit server will give the opportunity to chose. Stay with the cheaters and never see endgame or start over and have at least some hope. This way bots will have their PvP high rate servers and we will have our normal ones. No prizes for a guess about which will have more ppl given a couple of months...

Related to that: Could you do us a favour and inform the clan leaders when some of their members get a temp ban? It's pretty complicated to take a hard stance against cheaters in the clan when they can just claim that they had family problems and couldn't log in for a week ...
Its quite unlikely that they'll release character info on anyone.
And its honestly a far too tiny issue to worry about. People should worry more about playing the game instead of persuing stances.

One thing is clear. NCsoft started that with the bots. If they stop because they fear to many bans then will NCsoft lose the last legit players.The Playerbase will drop for sure even more. The last few actions were just the tip of the icemountain. I am willing as player to support NCsoft in any of this case. NCsoft should start a total war against all those botters. It cant be a Blitzkrieg to keep collateraldamge low. But a straight offensive with monthly after action reports would help to safe the legit-player base. Like tiks did the bots spread all over the servers. Its time to fight them with all weapons. There is now just one way left. And if the last legit players leaves will this game end.

I just read that the leader of a major bot clan on Naia got banned temporarely. This is the kind of things we need, to send out a message so all cheaters know they will be caught sooner rather than later and take action to change their ways or prepare for the event better (i.e. have a "legit" account for CL or stop AFK or ranger on present CL-who am i kidding...) as well as the regular guys to have their Paypal account stuffed so they can fast buy another toon, dress it and change name.
So far so good, it is better than expected, but further improvement is needed. There is a long way to level palyfield and even a longer way to profitability, but the first steps look promissing.

Mox if everyone that has a problem with GG asks for support I say better get some extra employees :D I know no player who doesnt have problems with GG. People turn it off because it makes the game 3 times faster and most of these people dont use 3rd party. Perhaps you should look at optimizing GG a bit :cool:
Sorry but I feel this goes against everything L2 is meant to be. So now if you bot you don't jepordize your account you get a freebie the first one or two times.

My housemate has had a 7 day ban, because of "Illegal program usage"..
this is complete bull. He was logged in on MY pc overnight in a shop, that was scanned and verified "clean" by NCSoft less than a week ago.
Gameguard crashed overnight, left the client logged into Giran, (this has happened to me more than once, but luckily I was playing when it happened, and logged out/in), and at some point disconnected him.
If they don't sort this **** out soon, he will quit (2 accts), I will quit (2 accts) and I'm sure a couple of RL friends who play because we do will probably quit too. - total loss, 8 account (maybe 9/10 with shop accounts). Not enough income loss to make NCSoft care in the slightest, but the **** with the latest GG errors and NC's handling of it is just getting me down, 5.5 years of playing and some shoddy coding kills it. bad times.

Hehe, what has become of the intentions this thread started with... Bots run free again, after putting pressure on GMs to ban legits, now they put pressure to ban GG, I am taking bets on how long the game will last :)
GMs won the battle against legits, but they lost the war to keep the game alive. Those two are more linked than anyone thinks. I said the first merger is doomed to fail if other measures to clean the game are not taken, I said the second will have the same fate, it looked like some lessons were learned, but again, the implementation stopped short again, bots managed to convince GMs too many ppl have been banned and the game will the nth time over... History will prove me right again, the next merger will be a failure too without the proper measures to make it sustainable. The problem is not the number of players at a given time, the problem is the continuous decline because of poor customer service and GMs taking the wrong side all the time.

You keep talking about the next server merge... You know, Lineage 1 has 3 servers and like 100 accounts spread across them. There isn't going to be another server merge for L2, ever. If anything, they'll eventually add a 3rd L2 server with different settings. If you want to know the future of L2, you only need to look at L1. And that's the way it's always been. It's not some mystery, it isn't an open question. The game is not going to shut down, the servers are not going to merge.

We had last merger at PvP ppl request, PvE ones didnt benefit from it, only market did better, but before we were able to get most of what we needed ourselves even if the clan was 1/3 maybe less in activity than today.
No, ppl in L1 dont need any merger, maybe ncna will at some point merge to keep the electricity cost lower, even tho probably isnt worth the trouble to do it anyway, but our "active" ppl will want more PvP and will bet again on the fact that a crowded server will make executions at exp spots more frequent.
It will be another failure, of course, "active" ppl cant have fun no matter the conditions, they are destroying the fun for themselves too.

I am all for killing off the bots, they shouldnt have been allowed to roam free at all. but they were a part of the economy, and things are more expensive now they are gone. That I can live with. I just wish NC would realise that Gameguard is rubbish, it doesn't stop bots, and the latest incarnation is just rediculous. I run windows 7, L2 crashes and GG crashes. I wont have a game dictate what OS i use on my pc, and I wont have some unknown "support" person telling me I cheat when I know **** well I don't. I also know Jason doesn't cheat, he's usually in party with me (on his SE) and I die often enough for him not to be cheating at it. He got an email today saying that NC were waiting for my final response about my issue so they cant help him. My final response was supposed to be an answer to "let us know if it still causes problems" it didn't until now. but whatever, ****** off with it all, time to find something not NC i think.

i suspect GG and Nc have a contract..which means l2 is stuck with it.

The need and the reasons to bot are slowly dwindling.which we are now starting to see the results of on our servers....:)
we all know whats hurting PvP aspect of the game tho...This is my biggest concern and fear...how do we stop it?

Yeah folder copies for some reason always have issues. I had friends with same crashing problem. Had them do a clean install of game and all crashes are now gone.
