I'm thinking of making a character or two on Naia just to check things out, and I have a few questions. I'm from the US, and I currently play on Chronos.
My questions:
1. How much lag do you get compared to playing on the US servers? Is it tolerable?
2. My current ping is about 63 to Chronos and about 130 to Naia. Do you think this will be okay?
3. How is the population of Naia compared to Chronos? More or less people?
4. Any other noteworthy comparisions between the two servers that I should take into consideration?
There is a definite difference. The ping for Naia is twice what Chronos is for me(which equates to a bit of lag). I find I have to click an extra time or two to make sure my target knows it is targeted. Not sure yet what that means for PvP, as I am only lvl 44. However since I started on Teon, back in the day, it will always be home.
As a long time US player on Teon and now Naia, being on a Euro server has it's issues. Primarily, there are only about 20 or so North Americans on the server. Ping has it's issues with targeting for both PvE and PvP. That doesn't necessarily make it unplayable.
If you typically play from 8am EST to 8pm EST then you're golden as this is when things are generally rocking on Teon..I mean Naia...lol. Community is very tight on this server, so unless you have someone over here already, I'd say a transfer will be hard on you. The only benefit a NA player has on Naia is that all the Euro's/Russo's are usually in bed by 8pm EST. So there's little pvp at that time. That means it's easy to xp w/o pvp for spots etc.
having played on both sides US/Euro I can say the ping isn't that much an issue, only at TW/Sieges will it be noticeable as then everything is a lagfest..
Naia has like 1,5k less players then Chronos but still average at 3k active players a day and around 650~700 afk shops in Giran & Aden.
As it has less ppl then Chronos and prime US play times lies at end of Euro day it will be easier to find spots to xp but as side effect it will be alil harder to find xp parties, would focus on finding a clan with NA players to cover for that..
I personally like the eu server for the siege and tw times. I dont like it due to the oly times.
Regarding lag, im so used to it it isnt an issue. L2 isnt a fps, so my 130ish ping is fine and i have 0 issues aoe'ing or pvp'ing.
The population is slightly lower than chronos at the moment. But my guess is they will even out eventually.
Naia also has 2 of the top clans from na/eu combined, and is basically teon 2.0 (if u followed any politics). It is not a 1 sided server like i hear chronos is now due to no one being on nova's level.
Also beware that you will have to put up with other languages, although english is the main language of naia.
Overall i like playing on naia, and was on teon from the start. My only complaint is with oly times on weekdays, but thats manageable and will be easier to manage in high five with the oly match limitation
Thanks for the info. I'll have to try it out and see, but your comments are somewhat reassuring. I'm not really concerned about the siege times and oly stuff, since I don't really do pvp.
The lag is a lot more in Naia vs the US server if you are playing in the US - but it is still workable.
The main problem is that if you join a clan to find one that has people that play during the US time zones during the week; on the weekend this is not that much of an issue.
As Hyper said the Siege times are good, but the Oly can be a pain to be in depending on your RL schedule.
I play on Naia from SC and I don't have any problems with lag or anything like that maybe except in Giran with the masses crowding around to slay some tigers
hey ... i moved from Ger to US 1 year ago... sure their is little ping difference ... but for normal ppl not rly noticable.... i guess if u are hardcore grinder/player what cares about every fps and as low as possible ping... guess its not good for u ... but for me ... no probs winning 9vs9 killing ppl on mass pvp.... according to ping probs....
i have maybe 1 lag /week....
