I agree about activity. And not just forum and not just players. Even NC staff start to work a lot.
October was a very long and difficult month for us and GMs.
A few conclusions for this month:
1. Merge was nice. At least for Franz and Luna ppl. However the level of players now looks like the one that was in old Teon, maybe slightly higher. This beats even the most pessimistic estimates I did, for the game, the merge was not good, at least so far. Blunders with disappearing items and the way we were treated in the first days took a heavy toll on ppl's will to continue. Same did the lags (and our server is not crowded...), the limited resources (forts in particular were one of the major reasons for many small clans to play) and the crowded exp places in the first days, as well as some bot clans hitting the wall of much better scripters than what they knew in their server till now. However, except the rapid dwindling best seen in Giran and popular exp places (which could be due to the fact GMs did ban at least temporary many bots so they maybe dont AFK so much creating the impression of more free server) the merge was nowhere near as bad as i expected.
If the disparition of chars is due to ban and the fear that is associated with GMs running around all over, however, then we might just have the foundations of a solid growth in a couple of months when ppl will see this time GMs are serious and are really commited to curb cheating.
2. Problems associated with the merge were not nice. Disparition of items and the lack of will to fix that, first at all, then in a timely manner, was worse than I expected. CH distribution tho, was better, but still not satisfactory in the general view, because we got CH in particular, but there were some problems that I highlighted often enough with the principles of this intervention. Instead of fixing the bug we try to aleviate it, that wasnt nice even tho end results were better than most ppl expected, and much better than I did, overall were bad for the company creating many frustrations that an automated process would have not.
3. A huge plus is this forum activity. This is the problem the OP raised, but I think this is not at all a problem, more like the dawn of a new era, ppl feel that their opinion started to matter, that they are listened, GMs do take into consideration our opinion, it is no longer a cry in the wilderness for only the man ont he moon to hear...
Even tho we have the lowest number of players in the history of L2 in the West, there was a new record regarding forum attendance (which speaks volumes about how bad the service was before, actually) and I strongly disagree with the OP that this is a bad thing, either for ppl or for GMs. It is long overdue, but this gives me hope, this is the most positive aspect I can think of in a long time. Let ppl come and vent their frustration, GMs will see the most pressing problems and adress them one by one, I sincerely hope they will, at least I know now they will try to.

Lol its too funny, look at the join date of the first reply to your thread.

To bad that join date also includes many players who have (or claim to have) played for years, but only came here to complain about everything since the merge.

As i said, this is a VERY encouraging sign, you think they would have bothered to join if they thought nobody will listen ? No, they felt there is a change, even if they dont realise it yet fully and automatically try to influence the way the change is going. 100 complains are much better than 0 complaints because of "bah, they dont care, will either delete my post, move it, or dont read it at all" attitude.
I was expecting exactly this kind of reaction and I even got infraction points expecting ban at some point not only from forum but from game too. I criticized high and low but to my surprise, not only I wasnt banned, but actually listened to, I cant really believe this, it is such a good change that I gained back the hope that game wont die so soon. I am sure many ppl felt this same thing and follow the trend trying to put their points across with more or less talent or success chances. But they do try, lets encourage the community to act as a community, to explain the game to GMs to make them come with us and enjoy work, not feel it like a job, more like fun with all sorts of ppl, lets be polite and criticize what is to criticize and aknowledge progress where we see it. If GMs will like us and their job, they will work overtime trying to save what is left to be saved, we are on the brink, lets do all we can to save the game, the community and the company.

I agree that since the merg the staff seems much more supportive and flexible. He'll just seeing more than one or two responses a week from from the staff is important and a good sign. It definatley seems like they now have more control over what is happening in the NA/EU market. Time will tell if this is a sign of improvement or something else.
That's right, I'm playing L2 EU since mid-February 2010 and my first message was in "TW badges disappearing" topic.
I believe NC staff have their own heads on the shoulders, but whenever they don't know if it is good to do something in one way or another or not to do at all, here are our posts to see the best kind of way, so if not all, but most of ppl will be satisfied.
I actually was gonna drop the game "until better times". I mean situation with cheaters showed me that I have no future as pure 100% legitimate player. But then that topic about bot monitoring update was created and I can't stop crying. So I have no need to stop playing this great game.
I believe that all these things including higher GM in-game activity will encourage a lot of ppl to back to the game. All we really need now is some sort of advertising the game, especially about bot situation changes.
NC, how about mailing everyone with the link that leads right here http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?p=3026915#post3026915 ?
The only reason why october was a success is cause there was the merge. And all were afraid they were gonna lose their chars/clans/names so they out some money on cards so they can reclaim their accounts. Let's see how many people l2 will have on December :S.
(too bad only Korean citizens can play l2 korean.
L2 is so much more fun than us l2)

Actually, it's a sign of an epic fail.

Forum Join Date means absolutely nothing.
Actually, it absolutely does mean something. Community members that were dormant for years actually altered their normal routine and created forum accounts. Whatever the catalyst for their emergence the fact remains... many share: Join date of Oct 2010.

Let us agree that October 2010 will forever be a pivotal point for this community. A new batch of scholars and numskulls will bless us with their harangue.

So, where are my TW badges?

This activity on forums didnt happen because the game got so much popular. But because ppl actually made accounts so they can complain about TW issue or whatever ...

Yes, everyone created forum accounts so they could complain about the missing badges. Thats not a good sign.
