Honestly, lets look at this logically for a moment shall we? GameGuard does not work; It never has. So why do we keep it around if all it does is screw up NON-EULA breaking applications?
I hate to bring this up but private servers seem to get atleast this much right, they kill gameguard and use thier own anticheat. Maybe it is time to take a look at their success in preventing cheaters from overwhelming the servers without disrupting browsers and applications. Admitably there are workarounds but it is far more difficult to break these private servers than GG. Now that I am done beating the bloody hole in the ground where once a dead horse lay... bleh.
True I forgot about that, I was screwing around with that a few weeks ago lol. Also messes up AHK... though I suppose it should? GG is a developers worst nightmare! lol

I used to run my 3 buffer accounts on a laptop and for whatever reason, GG would error when loaded the 3rd account (sometimes the second) so I disabled GG from loading and have played that way for 4+ years until the server merges and it cost me a 7-day ban on all my support toons because GG was not loaded.
Like you, I am unsure why GG is even used as it doesnt prevent any 3 party program from working. If it prevented Ranger or Control from working then ok but it doesnt so I say get rid of it :)
Does it now? I had VS 2010 Pro running alongside L2 a while ago; though not recently. Strange. It didn't care about IDA working in the background where I was disassembling some old DOS game for fun and ... well, just for fun I guess. :)
I cant open new links and new browsers when having GG on
If i click on a new link while GG is running it crashes the browser. I have tried 3 different ones, FireFox, Chrome, Explorer
The ONLY one that relatively works in Chrome, ONLY if i open all the sites i plan to visit tonight before i start L2.
Browsing WITHIN a site is no problem (updating and browsing facebook, refreshing and browsing diffrent forums, look stuff up in Wikipedia etc). The problem occurs if I try to open a new link. God forbid i press "back" while L2 is running....
If i need to open a new link while L2 is running, i need to:
1- shut down L2
2- terminate process since it doesn't always end on its own
3- restart my PC
4- then open the god**** link
very very very annoying
shutting down firewall and antivirus does not fix it, nor does repairing L2 files, reinstalling L2, reinstalling the browser, updating registries etc.
Strangely, in Aion everything was ok. They also use GG, just a newer version, since Aion GG is NOT compatible with L2 GG....

PS- im using windows XP, nothing special in background, most of the time nothing at all besides anti virus. When i have music, msn, skype, or vent
Just because everyone gets it, doesn't make it right.
Just because almost everyone bots doesnt make it right. Get over it and endure the 7 days in silence each time you are caught afk-ing and hopefully one day will be banned for good thus ending your GG problems.
It is true GG is badly written and it does not prevent all bot software however some must disable it to run and for that it is worth keeping. However, i strongly suggest getting another system, GG is too easy to trample with, if we have to do with a rootkit, then lets have a better one.
I dream of a day when only keyboard and mice hardware emulators will be able to work and even those expertly programmed so they dont get caught with timers.

Man, I wish I could remember the moderator's name back when GG was implemented. He promised that it would not affect anything that wasn't L2 related. Once it went online, I messaged and told him he wasn't being honest with the community (actually, I think I said he was either ignorant or a liar). He said something like, "Okay, prove me wrong". So I sent him a list of applications that I personally knew of that stopped working when GG fired up. He never did respond after that.
And for those who mention that it doesn't stop bots, etc. It was never intended to. I've said it a million times (my post count doesn't lie :p). People never can seem to wrap their heads around that one simple fact.
can you guys stop this qq about GG? Moxie already said its part of l2 and theres no plan to remove it.
Currently it is one of the few things that is wrong with L2, Why would we not strive to have the GMs give us a better game? Fact is the more we QQ the closer we are to having GG removed or at least having NCsoft get on INCA Internet to fix the ****ed bugs. Things like this simply do not get fixed unless they are discussed.
I am sure Moxie understands this concept of customer service and will accept change as being necessary. You should give NCsoft more credit they are a business which offers a service for 15 dollars a month to thousands of people who are all having the same problems with a secondary piece of software. The last thing they should want to do is loose more revenue.
