First of this is not a thread where i say that i got hacked or scammed and am asking for my stuff back.
I just want too know from some GM, be it Sace, SPAM or Mox what the deal is with so many people getting scammed/hacked lately. I mean ofc people get hacked/scammed for sharing accounts or using any type of progams, or getting a Trojan. But lately the rate is pretty high. I see atleast 1 or 2 people a week getting scammed/toons cleared out. Ofc after a painfull mail process they eventually get there items back, but still how can this happen ?
Better yet are the GM aware of this and what are they doing too protect the community from these actions ?
They can't do it. They can't control what we do. We just have to be extra careful, especially with hackers hacking fan site and clan forum, or putting torjan on ads, to mine their data.
Update your AV, run it daily! Of course don't share password or play from any Cyber cafe.
Well, I'm guessing, but...
The selling of adena for real money is a hugely profitable market, or was.. The demand is still there, but the adena sellers need adena to sell. NC really is doing a good job on shutting down bots in game, and cleaning out whole adena farming/selling groups. Bot teams have been a major source for adena to sell in game.
The adena sellers will run out. People are not quitting L2 and selling them cheap adena like they use to. Maybe the adena sellers are good for a Christmas Bonus this year, but they need to do something to get adena or no Bonus next year. Don't you feel sorry for them?
The solution for them is to **** accounts, clean out the gear, adena. Crush everything to crystals (much easier to sell fast and the prices are very low right now), or use to make shot. They are of course trying to replace their lost bot teams too. But that is like work. And it's not unusual to see 2 spammers in regular chat from competing adena buyer seller sites in Giran. You don't want them to lose their Christmas Bonus this year or next, do you?
NC is doing a good job about shutting these guys down. But as long as players will buy, people will try to sell. Right now, account hacking is probably the best way they have of meeting the demand, until NC gives us better security options, and we can shut them out of that part of the market too.
Prediction: Real money cost of adena will be going up! About time.

We acknowledge that there has been a spike recently in accounts being penetrated by unsavory users. We honestly have no way of finding out how each victim's login information was stolen. The internet can be a dangerous place, but we do our best to educate our players on how to keep their account information safe.
We posted an updated 'Account Security and You (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?t=212097)' thread, which we highly recommend that everyone read. We suspect that a common mistake made by victimized players is that they will use the same account login and/or password on non-official websites. If, for example, a fansite were hacked, users that have the same login and password on that site and for the game might find that their account has been breached.

A grade is really cheap. Our clan gives for free to newbies when they reach 61, so that wont be a problem, we even give S grade because at 76 you can still be consider newbie, but by that time everyone should have been able to get a few bucks together especially when we provide everything else. There are events, RBs, forts, etc, by the time they reach 76 they can buy their own stuff maybe with a bit of help.
However, since items are stolen, i wonder what happens with the thief, does his account get banned ? Are they only adena sellers ? I know some ppl that stole only to be able to afford to continue play, for TC. I hope GMs really deal well with this problem which is merely a sympthom of much improved policing.
If this continues and gathers pace, I think next year we wont be closing the game, we will be able to open a legit server :) A clannie that returned after 3 years was stunned to roam WoA for 2 hours and see absolutely no bot. While this is also because they leve much faster and are camping their special places with non-aggro non-social mobs over 83, it is not only that, there are some changes in the policy, I just hope they wont stop short like before, because as we saw that not only that didnt work, but ruined the game even more than leaving the bots undisturbed.

Interesting supposition. If true, I mean about the non-official websites, then doesn't that go to the heart of the issue we, as a community have with NcSoft NA?
In every one of the other regions, their offical website has up to date and complete information on the game and mechanics including drops, armor, everything.
We are left here to need and watch the loss of places like EllieBelly's and others and the need to search further and further afield for how to play this game.
Perhaps they need to run parallel fronts, banning and helping scammed people but also get this site upto date and complete. Then, there would be less work for them in the long run dealing with a few of these problems or at the very least, the problems would be from a subset of people who run the cheats and hacks to try and get ahead of the system.
And if people are not using high safety browsers to go to sites they don't know about, well, sucks to be them eh. The internet is not new and these issues are quite well known by now.
i'm a bit paranoid...
but my belief is the hacks actually come from changing your password...
because a lot of people i know who got hacked were attempting to change their passwords prior to being hacked.
so i have avoided doing this password change even though the game has suggested i do so.
