I don't know if you've got tatoos or not, but when you get a certain amount of them you start looking for cool new drawings, and some of the L2 stuff is perfect for that :)
It's about something you like to do and like to see. And like to show after all! I personally will never make a tattoo for myself, but seeing really nice picture on nice body is a pleasure.

Im gettin an SR tatoo next month. L2 is not just a game for me, i have met the most incredible ppl in this game, traveled to meet them, been playin since c1, been playing with my constant group for 2 years, we cried together we shed blood ( not ), pvped ALOT and conquered alot. This means alot, started playin this game since my 15s and wanting or not the friendships that i did here reflected on my upbringing. SO DATS IT
and if u dont have an actuall reason to tatoo an L2 thing on ur arm or let...**** it, just do it because u want. dont need to have an explanation for everything u do
I accept your opinion and also respect it since I can understand what you say about friendship and that stuff. Actually you got a lot of guts to get such a tattoo since when you will have to explain why and what this is, you got to stay with the truth imo and not many people will understand it.
Means: Having such a tattoo for the right reasons is kinda cool but nothing for me. =P

When i get a new tatoo done (which is about 2 or 3 times a year), i don't have to explain anything to anyone, this is my skin, my body, i try to find stuff that actually means something important to me, *me*, not anyone else ^^
I'm just hesitating right now between the Dark Elf Symbol like i said on my 1st post, or the Moon of Shilen, which is also very cool :-p
i dunno if any of you already have the Kamael Tee shirt (i do) there are some symbols on the sleeves that would be pretty nifty to have on a shoulder or elbow. particularly the one symbol that has no racial representation (cookies to the person that uploads a pic of it, and 1000 internets to the person that can identify the symbol in L2 lore.)

Isn't that what tattoos are supposed to be? Representations of transitory moments? Something that will last for ever and remind you of person/place/thing?

specially with the excellent art that lineage II provides... provided it's done right and proffensionally..
What are 90% of the tatoos most people seem to get that aren't related to video games? Ugly tatoos usually with nude women/men/parts and names of their bf/gf, their dog, or company/corporate logo, etc. and frankly those are pretty sad excuses for tatooing..
So using your frame of mind, anyone that gets ANY of the ones i mentioned is also, if not, MORE stupid then those getting l2 ones.
I guess someone that got the monalisa slapped on thier bicep would be even more ******ed in your eyes with your logic.
Art is art, and it's their body and their own personal choice.... if they want it, and have acknowledge that in time what could happen and are content with that.... you have utterly no control over it and your opinion is that, just as stupid as you think they are.

I have quite a lot of tatoos on my arms, and they're all very meaningful (to me) and the meaning is indded lasting (no "britney forever" or anything :p) ...
Now, why "a game" you may ask ?
Because, call me crazy, but this Dark Elf emblem is not just "a game", it's not just even Lineage II, it's the idea that there can be another world out there, a world fueled by your imagination, filled with epic adventures that your mind can actually (i was almost gonna say "really") make you live, and that this world has its own reality ... and in this alternate reality, i see my personality as a Dark Elf one ... kinda hard to explain, moreover with English not being my native language, i don't know if you get what i mean...
Anyway, i've been playing RPGs for about 25 years now, be it pen-and-paper or MMOs, so i guess that's pretty "lasting" ;)
And i also agree with the "to each his own", i try never to judge someone else's tatoos cos they're so personal, i know that sometimes i find them ugly but i respect the fact that it must mean something for the person who did them, and i know that this person may find mine ugly too ... the only thing i really don't like is people doing tatoos with absolutely no meaning whatsoever, just because it "looks cool" ... these are the tatoos you're gonna regret when you're old and wrinkled ;)
People in the world are able to enjoy many freedoms (I love America) and that means that poeple will enjoy them them, even if it's not something they should be doing.
I have all the freedom in the world to self-mutilate, drink myself into a stupor, and spoil all my relationships. Does that mean I should? Definitely not.
Given that so many poeple are into drugs, and other more destructive habits, I see tattoos as being fairly harmless by comparison, no matter how visually unapealing they are to me personally. It's like the OP said: "His body" It's not mine and I can't tell him what to do with it.
My one caution to those of you who are into body "art": Just like the vodka companies say Drink Responsibly, you should Tat Responsibly. If you are the kind of person that appreciates art of any kind, you must have the understanding that it's subjective, and what may seem interesting or cool to you, can be quite unapealing to others.
Why this matters:
If want a job, doesn't matter, I could walk into McDonald's looking like I just walked out of a plane crash, and they'd probably give me the job. But if I am working on a career... something that I can sink my roots into... enough to buy a house, pay for a wedding, have some kids and build a future with... I have to manage my image responsibily.
You may not think it's fair to be judged based on something as trivial as your appearance, but you will be, and that's just how it is. You have to decide what's more important to you, and not let your "art" stand between you and a future.
At the end of the day, you only answer to you (And God if you beleive that, but that's another topic). Just make sure you never throw away your future... nothing is worth loosing that. If tattoos are your thing, awesome, just make sure and be responsible with them ^^

Oh i totally agree with you, that's why my tatoos are on my arms, so when i'm at work i wear long-sleeved shirts and noone has any idea i do have them !
(although the whole "wedding & kids" is really not my thing, but that's another story :p)
Having kids seems to be fun and it will life on when you die.
However, when we die we'll just respawn in town anyways, so kids are obvious waste of time, effort and money.
