I have been playing this game for 5 years, spent much of my time to get top gear and make enough adena to get new gear as i progress in level. Back in June, my account was hacked while i have been offline for more than one year and the game has never been installed in my brand new computer. How did they even get my account info to change everything? Well that time they stripped everything, GMs only gave back my gear and adena but none of the 5 years of mats, pots, crystals, aa, or any "consumable" items that i had nearly 500 million adena worth was not returned.
I work in IT and i triple checked all my computers and they are clean from any viruses or infections.
12/20/10 hackers have changed my account info, pw, security questions, game pw and i do not get a single notification on any of these changes. After 48 hours, account pw is reset, i log in to find my account is completely stripped. Another 48 hours pass as i wait for GM response for restoration of my account is that because of the first hacking, i am only allowed a one time restoration, and they he can only give me COMMON gear for my 3 top level characters and nothing else. I cannot play with that... WOW Ncsoft, thanks for the great christmas gift.. leave the victim even more victimized and no help? GM Sace please look further into this mater, this is no way to treat a good paying customer of over 5 years.. thank you

Care to define 'triple checked'? I got a virus the other day after downloading a freeware stopwatch from CNET (CNET approved download! Guaranteed no virus! lol). I ran MalwareBytes, and it found nothing. My mainstream anti-virus didn't find anything. Then I ran AdAware and it found the trojan. Some of these anti-virus softwares are not very good it seems.
Unfortunatly..its very painfull getting hacked. I have been where you are now. Fortunatly it happened while I was playing so I knew right away what happened. They still managed to take everything of value from all my toons. I did get everything back except for mats and materials. I still don't understand that one, and I don't understand why they cannot return an item once it has been sold by the hacker. Its not like they cannot creat the item and put it in your inventory, or is the hacking thats going on so bad it would destroy the market if everyone got thier items back.
Guys, do you actually believe that his account was hacked? Come on! Get serious!
He sold his account for RL money, he left the new guy playing for a year and then recalled the account. That is what happened!
An account can't be hacked a year after you stop playing. An account can't be hacked at all. You should give your password to somebody so that he gains access to your master account, pay for it and play for a year.

well "hacked".. there are several Reasons why someone gained Access to his Account
1. one of his RL/internet Friends Figured out his Password
2. He shared his Account whit one of his RL/Internet Friends
3. He Downloaded some cracked Software wich was a Keyloger/etc.
4. He bought the Account wich was Recalled
5. He was Serious Dumb and used a Crapy Password like his account name(wich is his Forum name) and someone used Bruteforce programm etc.
those are the only Possible Reasons, noone would try thier luck and just type some random accounts/passwords in thier l2login. you can easy Build a programm to Bruteforce someones password on the L2 Login screen/Botsoftware etc..., but it could take Ages to get the right Account
There was a registration required L2 related site, buch of people that had registered there had used the same email account as they used on their L2 account and the same password as they used on their email account. That site's database ended up in the hands of the wrong people. End result was bunch of people that had quit lineage for x months ended up having their l2accounts stealth deactivated ("hacker" just deleted the reactivation emails) and stripped. Reactivations were done with fake chinese 15day timecards. So the account owners were none the wiser till they started playing l2 again months later and logged in to naked chars. Few select accounts were even banned due to the fake timecards. That was the funniest part of it, guy that quit lineage a year ago getting an email a year later that his account was banned ;)

You can believe what you want, as I did until it happened to me. It is very possible for someone to get access to your account and steal everything. It's not a fun experience at all and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Until then though I imagine no one will be able to convince you that it can happen.
It never happened to me, to get "hacked" that is.
I play for about 5 years and the only time when I had everything stolen is when I gave the accounts to the wrong ppl to take care of the clan while i was away a few months. That was 100% my fault and I strongly believe "hacked" accounts are 100% the fault of the owners too.
Selling/buying accounts, sharing, using bots, same logins in dubious forums, that is the fault of the owner, no question about that. Instead of saying tough luck, be more careful when you bot next time, GMs lose time to restore items instead of baning left and right for this, no wonder the game is going so bad these days, legit customers need to wait for days for a simple fix of some bug that stops a quest because the GM is busy to help cheaters...
While I agree that not all "hacked" accounts are lost by cheaters, I still think that is the fault of the owner, nevertheless, and no reparation should be done by GMs, they warned us repeatedly, EULA doesnt allow sharing for exactly this reason, for our protection, they tell us to keep pass secured, not use it in other sites, to change it, etc. If they do all that and ppl still dont listen, why would be GMs REQUIRED to give anything back ?
M
First: I have never shared my account information to anyone!
Second: I have differnt usernames and passwords for the master game account and the game itself. i have never used the same login of either for any forums outside of l2. so they cannot get it from there.
Third: I dont download anything thats freeware like from cnet, i use norton and mcafee antivirus and i use adaware/yahoo antispyware/ spybot / and hijack this. there is no keylogger or trojan of any kind on my pc.
Fourth: i never click on an email to enter a site, i always type it into the address bar, same as i treat my banking information.
Fifth: I didnt sell my account! I was leveling it trying to get to 80!
Finally: I treat my game account as if it was my bank account. i never that careless to share my account to anyone.
For some reason many of you think that just because other people are "hacked" due to their carelessness to give out their PW to a friend is always the answer. For a person such as me who is so careful not to even lend anything out in the game, give out pw or even visit odd sites and download garbage, this still happened. How is that I as the victim should be penialized and the thief profitted off my account is now awarded? 5 years of my time paid and spent on this account is gone, ncsoft doesnt care. It may be "virtual" items but it is something that took 5 years of time to aquire. According to the customer service that i called to, they just "recently put on new security measures to send a email to both new and old email if the email has been changed". Comon.. it takes 6 years to put that security feature on? Its so ridiculus that simple security should have been placed years ago.
Anyway I hope there is a GM here that can fix this issue. Policy to only return common gear to the player only benefits the theives that stole everything and hurting the victim is not a way to resolve this issue, infact its only adding fuel into the fire for more theives to steal more and profit off it because they dont get penalized, just the victims do.
As for your response, I am the original owner and never sold my account, i dont need to sell my account for RL money, I actually make money in RL WORKING!
Also i never give my password out!

As I said, GMs opinion is far more valuable than yours and is hardly an excuse but an official interpretation of the rules. I know the bots say GMs are wrong, but I dont care as long as they are banned in a timely manner.
M
You can try to spin it any way you want, it wont work.
I am not spinning anything, GMs are like the justice system that interprets the law. The court said what I do is not legal, however that doesnt mean I am a criminal, just that I wont receive help from the law enforcement if I lose out for doing it.
Kinda if you leave your house keys at the porch for your relatives and friends, while you wont be fined, you cant ask the police the TV set back, thinggie. I did that, my accounts were stripped, I didnt ask the GMs for anything and I think this kind of threads should not exist either. The OP did something wrong, shouldnt get anything back, and even be banned if what he/she did was a bannable offense.

Yes, and to me, Spam's post is pretty clear on that :
" Account sharing is not allowed by the User Agreement except in the case of an account being used by the minor child of an account owner. "
So, unless you shared your account with your child, what you did was a violation of the EULA, and thus you are a cheater :D
A cheater who's indeed "tolerated" by the GMs like Spam said, but a cheater nonetheless :p
Next step ?
Using a bot program and saying it's "tolerated" by the GMs because, you know, we see so many of them all around...
Oh, dear, I have to quote it:
"To ban every account that has ever been accessed by more than one person would not only be impossible but it would disenfranchise many of our loyal (legitimate) customers if it was possible."
In our rules we dont say we respect the EULA, just that we are full legit. As you see, GMs consider sharing accounts legit.
I know most cheaters cant trust each other with this stuff and they are at a disadvantage here, however, your comments are irrelevant as long as GMs settled the issue once and for all.

Your logic is IDENTICAL to bot logic. "To ban every account that bots it would mean shutting down lineage 2 in NA"
Moral of the story, everybody considers whatever suits their own agenda legit, and whatever doesn't suit their own agenda as an abomination.

That is NOT my logic. It is an extract of HGM Spam post on this theme.
Moral of the story: You dont know what you are talking about and you dont care, but you judge like you know and you have the authority to do so. Botting is banable and all bots should be banned, however I am OK for temp bans for now, but I want a full enforcement of teh EULA for BANNABLE offenses as well as NO ITEMS BACK for the ppl that share accounts in the eventuality they get stolen AND full ban for those that lost out because of 3rd party "tools" usage. I am in the category of sharing accounts, I never asked items back, the thieves can keep them as well as the clan, I took my punishment for being stupid, I dont make threads to ask for items back, nor threat to leave the game because GMs dont give me back the things i lost from MY mistake, so the ppl who lost out from cheating or sharing should refrain from crying here. We were stupid, payed for it, next time be more careful or dont do it, end of story.

What you 've done is taken a but that's supposed to apply to me "sharing" a buffer account with my girlfriend, or guy B sharing an account with his brother or roommate and turned it into NO account sharing is Legal all around !!!!!111111ONEONEONE. AKA twisting it around to suit your agenda.
There have literally been HUNDREDS of bans for account sharing. Ask anybody that played in C5 and got hammered in DOD pole parties.Ask NOVA why they emoquit from Bartz and how many Olympiad toons their then leader lost in one night to ... account sharing. That you can't twist around, cause it's factual. But go on believing what you do is OK, if it allows you to think your nonsense air of uber legitness you are trying to sell is actually true. When it isnt. Cause if it was true an 86 dread would just log half his clan in and powerlevel them all. No need for buffer accounts when you account-share clan buffers is there?

Well, cheaeters dont trust each otehr and cant do it because then they end up here crying. And it never says tehre it applies only to family or something, that is your conclusion which is baseless.
I dont care that ppl got banned for RMT accounts, or for botting shared accounts, that is an entirelly different matter. Besides, I have much more than that, but it is private conversation, I only pointed you to the public clarifications. If you read there brothers and sisters, you are a lost cause.

Please stop, you 're epicly clueless. People got banned for account sharing period. One guy logging in a bunch of toons running Olympiad all by himself. Or 10 different guys (in C5) logging in the same 80 & 100% titan to pole DOD.No botting or RMT involved.
And yeah it's illegal. Account sharing. Cause if it wasn't 9 man parties would quite legally run 24/7 gaining exp just being played in shifts by a different guy. That's as far from the spirit of the game as botting. In fact the original chinese farmers back in C1/C2 didn't actually bot. There was no software with which to bot out there. They just shared accounts, running a train 24/7 with 2 guys playing at the time in shifts. So yeah. You can "justify" whatever you want, same as any radar user, same as any bot, end of the day you sharing accounts is as illegal as boting/rmting.

Another clue you are clueless. Back in the days of C1 GMs praised the first char that reached 75 which was, surprise-surprise, a shared account played in shifts.
As for the spirit of the game... Well, boxing should be illegal too IMO. But since it is allowed and killed parties and whatnot, I am using it exactly to have all the necessary chars a party would lack at some point. The spirit of the game should not allow multiple accounts per person, because it kills the mmo part, but I use it to ease that problem that boxing created, so this is the spirit.
Your buddies were banned for either:
-"powerleveling" for money;
-botting at least one shared account, and by that, contaminating the original owner and banning his other acounts too;
-buying/selling accounts;
-RMT for items and transfer of RMT items through those accounts.
Cheaters dont just bot, but sometimes use exploits, there was an exploit with Oly at some point using clan skills, ppl were banned for that, there are tens of possible reasons why those cheaters were banned, but account sharing alone wont get you banned.
I can imagine that ppl bickering about buffbot accounts and opening tickets make the GMs look closer to those accounts and see the cheating and the ppl involved in it so they ban the whole ring/clan, so it LOOKS like banned for account sharing, when the cause(s) are somewhere else.
In the worst case scenario when multiple ppl claim ownership of an account that has been shared and GMs cant determine who is the original owner they close it down, but not because was shared, but because neither of the ppl claiming it can prove original purchase of key, so that is another issue why sharing is not allowedin the EULA, hard times for GMs which should not play the detectives for shared accounts. They basically say that if you share accounts, if you put your password in real or fake bot programs, if you use same login data in 3rd party sites, etc, you are on your own, that is why I say this kind of threads should be closed as soon as they appear with a standard post stating basic rules of account security.
M
Another clue you are clueless. Back in the days of C1 GMs praised the first char that reached 75 which was, surprise-surprise, a shared account played in shifts.
Cool story, never happened though. There were no 75lvl characters on retail in C1.
Rest of your post is just irrelevant I want it to be legal therefore it is stuff. Unless you can tell me me logging in 8 different people's accounts and exping is legal. Which is the definition of account sharing.
Why do people respond to Monica (sp)... if you read the posts that she makes, in the end it is all double talk but 'everyone is wrong' unless you are in her mind set which is well...
Post a pic of someone holding a trophy or something.
I think I earned one Cabbie!
You earned nothing.
High GM Opinion>any troll's opinion. Therefore you are just trolls that dont care about facts and rules, you just think that you are in majority you can do whatever it pleases you. Guess what, many "smart" ppl have been banned and more will be in the future, I am still not banned, even tho I bet my opinions are not liked by NCNA staff.
+1 on freedom of expression, this is one thing that ranks very high in my eyes, maybe it is not all lost...
M
Edit: Some ppl said that on the same logic botting is allowed. As soon as they point me to the message where a GM said they wont ban for botting and bots are legitimate customers, I will join them myself. Untill you show that, I proved sharing accounts is legit, you only waiver GM support in case of "****" if you do that, botting is not and will get you banned.

I'm not gonna listen to your excuses, unlegit!
You can't just bend the EULA to your benifit you know. Atleast not if you are gonna point your finger at others for breaking it.

UNLEGIT!!!
HGM chief of justice->Ppl that share accounts=legitimate customers. We never said we respect fully EULA, just that we are full legit. IF the word "legitimate" would have not been there, maybe you could have had a shadow of credibility, but since it is there, your whole argumentation about us being unlegit is totally worthless.

Sry, thats not gonna slide.
You are just as unlegit as all the other unlegits.
ok heres the real issue. Sharing accts isnt the issue. Sharing the password is. Think of it this way does your wife , husband, tree monkey know your debit pin number? if they do then uve broken the banks EULA.... do we do it still? yes. Is it a bank bannable offence? yes. We can get our account pulled (now this is Canada bank rules).
same applies to L2. Of course ppl in the same household usually share accts. But the only thing that really is the issue is the person who acctivated the acct and picked the nam and password is not the same as the person using it. End of story. Buff bot accts, etc. bought and paid for BY THE SAME ORIGINAL user is not bannable. Therefore multi accts are not.
