i actually use wasd currently.
well mostly w and s, for forward and backward movement...
the current use of a and d to just turn seems redundant with a mouse for camera turning.
unless somehow the a and d can be used to avoid back stabbing... but they're awfully slow.
WASD is not dumb, it's an alternative.
and though in laggy areas it is wise to use point to click, for general travel, use of WASD is good, and in fact Fun...
now maybe my client is special, it does seem to function slightly different than most, but when i hold W or S, and rotate my camera, my character follows the rotation, however, if i hit W/S Rotate the camera, then tap A or D, it continues moving in a single direction.
i personally prefer this system for navigating caverns, a lot less clicking in my opinion.
also... i love making random s curves as i run, and figure eights in town...

WASD movement in the current engine blows. its laggy, unresponsive and slow.
won't be change the movement system. I saw when a developer controlled his character at this form how we control our character now. So he clicked where he wanted to move.
As long as they implement skill binding(meaning able to bind keys around WSAD) Also such as Q = 1 skills Shift + Q other and responsive WSAD(current one is not responsive enough) I don't care. Played many games and I'm confy with any of that.
It doesn't look like he's moving with WASD.I think that with so many skills added to each char WASD is the only way to make your char move smoothly as well as using the upper num pad for the first bar and F buttons for the second.
using the numpad would require moving your hand off the mouse... this is counter intuitive...
The idea is to keep your hand on the pointing device at all times and your left hand on the WASD keys with easy access to the keys around it..
Now programing in that you can program the mouse buttons.. scroll.. and so forth for different actions would be dandy..
and being able to set the fuction keys to bind to the QERTGFBVCXZ keys would be dandy to as they are easily reachable without losing access to the WASD keys themselves... tab/shift/alt/ctrl/space are still reachable.. and only a little bit of a stretch to the 123456 and F1-F5 keys.
Yup I don't see this as a bad thing as long as they rework the current wasd movement. In WoW and many other games I had 1-6, shift 1-6, alt 1-6, ctrl 1-6, QERTFGZXCVB all bound to skills. Mouse was always special commands, move, choose next target, auto run, etc.
or if it is implemented, to allow the option to use old system or new system. i've played WoW, Aion, Rift...controlls suck donkey d@#$ cant move and select with same button, if i wanted to use WASD id play CS
We have it already and if they made it better I think would be left as a choice? But I dont think they could do anything different with it unless they somehow came up with some crazy logic defying stuff (Hmmm I wuddnt put it past anyone who can come up with the lineage luck system lol), or converted to client side but then I'd cry.
Reason WASD has been laggy/sucked for this game, is because the game is good. Its solid. Its more server side.
Wow and other WASD mmo are more client side. When you move (or attack), you see it instantly. But the server - and everyone else - doesnt. Which is crup (NB: I love the forum filter).
When we move in lineage (or attack) gotta wait for 2 x your ping for it to go to server and back again to your client, so 0.1-0.5 sec for most people around the world. Thats why we have that slight delay when you click stuff. But its a good thing and means proper timing on server and most important feels solid, not flimsy client side crup like wow and all the other eq clones.
Sure you can get lag glitch and such or end up way behind for a bit if get spiked or server/your net conn gets too chugged down, but thats just usual internetz stuff for any game.
Anyway - I'd guess more server side is important for lineage because of the pvp aspect. Whatever the reason, its one of main things that make it different and better to all the other clones out there.

There is no real reason for *everything* to be server-side, they can still do the checks server-side to deter client-side modifications... wait people already do client-side hacks to cheat, so whether they are doing check server-side or not seems to be pointless...
But I like the l2 system (not wasd) because I already spend hours typing at my job... i don't wanna touch the keyboard more than needed :P
WASD movement is dumb and especially in L2 atm because it takes the client 2 seconds to realize that you pressed one of the keys.
i find using w and s as a dagger combined with the next target function a refreshing alternative to the mouseover system i used as an archer/nuker. i'm hoping the former technique ends up being useful in holding a pvp target when being tricked/cancel target'ed.
not counting that for evey time you press foward it steps back when you releases the key
if you stop in melee range to hit something, turning your back to it for a moment won't really change much (provided you click attack/skill immediately).
if i'm not mistaken, it also pivots a perfect 180 to face whatever was chasing you without having to target or click the ground.
