im just wondering i have 4 gigs of ram and a quad core with a asus gtx 480 video card and im still lagging, i play every other game except this maxed out.

dual or quad does not matter, the frequency is what matters since L2 uses only one core for processing, only network/sound is being distributed between cores, therefore
1 single core with higher frequency > 4 cores with lower frequency
lag can be caused by HDD loading as L2 is heavy in this factor as well. Raid, SSD may help here as well (ideal would be 2x SSD in raid 1).
I monitor my cpu temp/performance while playing with CoreTemp. All 4 cores are used while playing so... take that with what MYSTERica said.
Also, my PC is high-performance as well. The only time it ever lags is while loading all of the player shops in Giran. As MYSTERica said, again, you might want to get a faster HDD;.

No it does not use quad core, L2 is single threaded. What you were more than likely seeing is window background processes.
Actually fact is the since basically C5/interlude.. the client lineage II supports Dual core or multi core processors.... does it make use of them? No not really.. but partially... much better then it did.
Currently Lineage II load balances across 2 seperate cores.. on cpu's with multiple cores and Hyper Threading...... it should PICK 2 real cores.. not a hyper threaded one..
Generally the load balance is 40/40 per core peaking at a combined 100% for those cores..
In my case.. with 4 cores and 4 HT... my total performance is rated at about 20% full load with l2 (including other programs running)
Now if your having performance issues... DISABLE improved shader... Reflections, Shadows, and set Terrain and NPC range to average.. NPC should always be at average because there is no visual aided benefit to having it any higher.. just slows you down more
