All servers will be down for maintenance on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 5am PDT / 7am CDT / 8am EDT / 12pm UTC/GMT. Estimated downtime is approximately 5 hours.
With this maintenance:
Treasure Sack pieces and Treasure Hunter transformation scrolls will be removed.
Manor fruits deleted in the server merge will be replaced. Please note that if your character has transferred between servers since the merge, your items will be replaced manually over the next week (they may not be in your warehouse after maintenance, but they will come). If your warehouse is full, the items will still be inserted into the warehouse but you will not be able to see or use them until you make room for them.
To clarify about maintenance durations: before the merge, 8 servers of low population ran simultaneously, ending after about 2 hours. Now, our two servers run their maintenance simultaneously, but 4 hours has become the standard because our servers are more populated and there is more content than previously. The extra hour for the April 6 maintenance is due to the manor item insertion.
I feel that Tree is the most inspirational loading screen yet. The loading screen of Lineage II grabs the attention of anyone who looks at my computer screen at a Netcafe and reaches out to them, compelling them that they too, should get a PlayNC account and buy this game.

The time should only be provided in UTC/GMT and you should force every other player to figure it out themselves. Set a minimum intelligence requirement, etc.

That's because London is not GMT right now, London is GMT+1 due to summer time (and the rest of Europe, e.g. Germany, is GMT+2). So 13:00 London local time, or 12:00 GMT, is correct.

I never did and always said they will be given back as well as the badges. The reason I stopped after badges were given back is that I never did manor, nor am I interested in it, but I was sure they will come back.
GMs may never cease to help bots, but there are things that are a no-no even for a company with NCNA's reputation.

Everything is OK with the posted times. London is presently GMT+1.
The GMT is different than London local time.
That's because London is not GMT right now, London is GMT+1 due to summer time (and the rest of Europe, e.g. Germany, is GMT+2). So 13:00 London local time, or 12:00 GMT, is correct.

Eh, if they would fix bugs and lags, i would be happy with long maintenance windows.
Either eliminate "features" nobody uses like monster races and lottery for example, or get more powerful machines. Each update more stress is added to servers, it is inevitable what is happening, even if more and more ppl drop out.

The servers will go up internally before the maintenance is over, while we check that the maintenance went well. This is how it will be moving forward. Once everything is confirmed to be working well, we will open up the auth server and players will be able to login-- close to our estimated maintenance completion time.
Timezones: I know they're very confusing, which is why the maintenance post now links to a 'Other timezones listed here' page. On that page, the maintenance start time in various cities around the world is listed.

5 hrs lmao - maybe try this: do it while customers on avg are asleep for a NA server...try start at 2am cst...and yes, someone might actually have to pull a night shift to keep customers happy and food on your table given the joyousness of your excited customer base that you did it on your time and not theirs.....

First of all, go do something productive for the rest of society so that you're not "upset" that the L2 severs are down during business hours.
Second of all, you think there's "someone" that needs to pull a night shift? what else? He needs to feed the hamster once a week and all is well?
I mean, there is just so much wrong with this post. You think the customers will quit if maintenance isn't in the middle of the night? You think NCSoft doesn't outsource their server hosting and management? You think they want to pay double rates for maintenance so 5 people can play sooner on a weekday? You think there's only one box that one person needs to manage?

I did get some fruits back, but not seeds :( I had a ton of them >< and it is sometimes quite difficult to buy the ones you want, and some castles charge exorbitant prices now :/

Whatever time they pick it will be unfair for half of their costumers. Why bother?

It's a few hours one day each week. It's not a problem. You know that this day and this hour you will not can play Lineage for a Maintenance. It's a SCHEDULE maintenance.
So you ask them to do two maintenance windows instead of one? We have one login server as I understand, and they put it down with servers. I don't know for sure how they can put one server to maintenance and then in few hours - another, but I know that a company won't double its expenses like that.
I don't see any problems with having a break from game 4 hours a week even in "peak time". I live in Russia and this maintenance for me just when I could be playing (from 18:00 to 22:00 local time), but still I don't cry here on forums. I play a lot and I can find what to do these 4 hours once a week :)
This is a funny response, many thanks for your insight; however, realize this:
1) The approach by ncsoft regarding its timing of updates is a joke....and your comment about my (or others) doing something useful has zero to do with the topic at hand (even though you might like the rest of us to pay your UI - too funny).
2) If you run a business that is 24/7, your scheduled downtime should be based on the customers' lowest activity. Here's a hint given you must have had a dollar in your pocket sometime and actually bought an item somewhere - when should a store shut down to do its inventory : a- during the shopping day, b- after the store closes.....point closed -argue this and you make yourself look like more of a fool!
3) Bottom line, it doesn't matter what it takes, the point is that it should be done at the lowest activity time.....which I highly doubt is the current time based on 'convenient employee hours'.

Dude. If you had the slightest experience or familiarity with the business world, you wouldn't be ******** posts all over the place on us.
Retail stores do regular inventory work early in the morning and at night. Additionally, they will stock the shelves as shipments are received and there's room to place them. You've never been in a grocery store during normal business hours when someone was restocking the bread section? You've never seen someone at office depot stocking routers or pens?
What is your third "point" saying besides "this is how I think the world should run to fit my ideas"?
You don't need to pull out personal insults or ask for sandwiches. You've been called out for being ignorant by multiple posters already. I don't see what's so hard to understand that people working at these stores and managing these servers are people like you or me. They have families and interests outside of work. Not only is it more interesting for them to not pull a night shift over something trivial, but it makes all the business sense in the world for management.

so just to clarify.... it would be better to equate what ncsoft is doing to something that doesn't ever stop either... period.... ever....
Not to mention that what is predicted to be peak sometimes isn't and what isn't peak typically sometimes is..
so with a 24/7 service..... when something needs to be done...... there really isn't an alternative....
So while there are thing i can agree with from both of you guys... there is probably just as much that i'm fairly neutral on and none of us can fully expect or claim to be 100% accurate on the goings on or the decisions being made and why.
Now that's not to say that they don't mess up often..
But i just find the comparison or some of the arguements made aren't accurate or justified sometimes.
In the world of servers and 24/7 services which involve a game..... it doesn't matter WHEN you shut the servers down ..... there is ALWAYS going to be nearly every player either online or trying to get on being rather upset or disgruntled... Could ncsoft hit better times..... sometimes... sometimes they do.. sometimes they don't.... they simply cannot EVER please everyone... And they can't always keep the collateral dmg at the absalute minimum because frankly..... and i can't expect them to.... they can't predict the future, nor the close to 10,000+ accounts/players that log in randomly throughout the day.
If memory serves, I don't like you and I'm sure the feeling is mutual lmao... HOWEVER....god luv ya for using the words "least impact".....maybe the other guy who lost his retail management job will get us both subs...or at least a drink to get through the next round of 'i deserve the world without doing anything - because its ME time' crusaders.....
ps. Grtz for having a job; however, be kind to those "losers" or you might be looking for an IT gaming job - upside is no more night shifts!!!!
No worries, not really sure anyone cares who likes who, I know I don’t. For the record there is a never ending line of losers pouring into casinos throwing their money away, even when they don't have jobs. I for one would never work in a casino; I wouldn’t be able to play L2 all day. ;)
