I guess we could fill this topic with screen shots of rewards we obtain from gathering letters at this event :), would be nice to see how lucky people are when it comes to this and who will be lucky enough to obtain some epic :)
The drop rate seems very Korean. While poling at Crypt of Disgrace, there were several pulls without a letter (not too amazing as the mobs are blue for some party members), and suddenly one pull gives like 10 letters.
But as always in that kind of event, you'd better solo on green 1/2 HP mobs than party with friends at your usual xp spot. I've seen worse rates as a bishop though. I remember an event with a heart dropping in 9 parts where I wasn't able to complete one because I was in parties.
It was like 1/100 per letter (exept S and II), and now like 1/1000.
Was the high drop rate reason of the lags?
or Due to people getting Epic jewels from it, they were reduced?
Are now letters "II" and "S" droppable same rate with other letters?
its hard to say, there is one quiestion left : Does the level matters?? because yesterday i was playing my recently created alt char Warlord and i did from level 24 to level 29 so belelieve me, i killed a lot of mobs and i only got 4 letters... gotta try with my Abyss Walker 61, maybe they drop better at higher levels..
Some people are buying some letters for what I consider to be crazy amounts of adena for what amounts to a chance at something. I guess they're just that wealthy. But I wonder if I wouldn't be better off selling my letters.
However, if I do the turn-ins, people buy the event buff tokens too so...decisions.
when server went up i formed 4 words in about 1 hour.
as the time was passing i observed that probability to drop a letter went dramaticaly low.
maybe it has to do with number of players exp, which tottaly conflicts with probabilities theorie, so i assumed they just have a standard number of letters to be droped.
Me and my husband in treasure sack event found something about aoe and drops. We went to bee hive, I took huge group of mobs and my husband aoe them (they was green to him and white). They drop 2 pieces. When we went oon mains and killed mobs solo - sacks dropped like hell :) So there is some drop penalty on aoe, dunno if only on event items or on all drops.
Event drops are split between all players on the server. If there are only a few ppl online, you get a lot of drops (In the last melon event the server crashed once and I had a 100% event item drop rate 10 min after the server went up).
If there are lots of ppl hunting, you get fewer items. I guess event items have a global cooldown of XX ms because pole parties usually don't get many items although they kill lots of mobs.
To counteract the problem of fewer drops in prime hours, the overall drop rate is much higher at that time (I guess from 6pm-12am).

I can confirm the same doing AOE around lvl 64, sometimes I get no letter at all and later from one group 3 letters at once.

I wonder if this couldn't be related to the fact that server has to go through more mobs and pick the loot from the table for each mob at once. But that would mean we would be feeling the "penalty" on regular drops as well which doesn't seems to be the case ... (experienced polers/AOE-rs might reply to this)
got enough letters for nine tries in 2.5 hours. got a green 16, fire crystal, 4 bsoes and about 10 QHP. The drop rate increases around 6pm cst as it has for all previous events.
every event in recent years has peak drop times. on chronos its 6pm-midnight. no idea what it is on Naia. during the off peak times, the drop rate is pretty poor. it also seems that certain areas have better drop rates but you will have to figure that part out.

I just turned in 2 sets of NCSOFT and only recieved collector's items. The event webpage states that "Every turn-in gives you two or three Letter Collector's gift items, along with another random reward that depends on what letters you turn in." Is it me or are others expierencing the same thing with turn ins?

Apparently some other players mentioned the same thing. Indeed, according to the event presentation, you should get a collector's gift AND a random reward. It's strange.

Same here 2 returns just letter reward. I think is standar reward the letter event buff thinky and bonus reward from the list
Clarification on the rewards for the letters event:
For turning in a word (Lineage II or NCsoft) you will always get one or more Letter Collector's Gift items, and there is a random chance you will get one of the other rewards on that word's list.
So it is not a bug that some players are getting only the Letter Collector's Gift on some turn-ins, it just means that you did not randomly win one of the other items.
As we've seen from other feedback and rewards about this event, multiple players are receiving some of the random gifts along with their Letter Collector's Gift. Don't be discouraged, just keep hunting and turning in letters. :)

I just turned in several sets of NCSOFT and LINEAGE ][ to only receive useless (albeit free) collector's items. This is a travesty and along with others in this community I demand retribution (I was only able to spell this word due to a community member of the same name, thx) The event webpage clear states that "Every turn-in gives you two or three Letter Collector's gift items, along with another random reward that depends on what letters you turn in." With these words being on our forums it clearly constitutes a written contract between US and NCSoft, a contract that ENTITLES us to the deserved happiness, contractually promised to US, through our participation in said event.
This event just SUCKS! Low level has a better drop rate. A nuker has no place on it. In dino they drop nearly no letter, about 20-30 min to get something (if you do), while archers can farm then easylly on their hunting ground (lizardmen). If they are going to give an event, it should be friendly to every class, not only benefict some and exclude others. This is just frustating.
"Oh, play another sub/char" Heh... being forced to play a char that I don't enjoy as much doesn't sound like a fair solution either. If anyone knows a better place for a lv 81 nuker to hunt for letters, then let me know.
The best awnser I got from a GM, asking if it was a bug or supposed to be that way was "Sorry, we GM doesn't control the drop rate. It's all monitorated by NPC Server." Yeah, sorry, that didn't awnser my question and helped with nothing.

hmmm...
i find your argument to be without merit. last night nuker friend did 2.5 hrs in VOS, got 5 Lineage2 and 4 NCSOFT.
my suggestion is to hunt mobs that are easy to kill.

VOS? Read what I said again. I said it sucks for hight level nuker. VOS is lv 60 place. Easier to kill? Yeah, I can 2 shot dinos easyly, there no other palce that easy for my level.
My info about letters drop :
DoE 1hours hunt drop rly s..k ~6 letters /much more mobs killed here than GC/
GC 1Hours hunt drop a lot better ~22 letters
So , any kind of difference for drops location?

find a place thats level 78 with 2 shot mobs. stop looking at your exp bar and just kill the mobs.

I dunno, I was hunting in Dino last night for 3 hours and got to turn in 7 LineageII's and 5 NCSoft's. 4 BREZ, 4 BSOE, some QHP's and a bunch of buff gifts.
The drop rate of letters is dependant on time of the DAY (real world day... not in game)
this has been KNOWN although NEVER confirmed ever from what i recall...
The way it seems to roll is that throughout the morning... lets say 3am to 3pm North american time (give or take an hour or so) produces usually the worst drop rates..
From 3pm to 9pm the drop rate seems to increase every hour or so...
between 9pm and 12am (midnight) it seems to stick around the same....
from 12am to 3am it falls back quickly.
This is going by the countless events we've had for the last 7 years and how it's played out.
YES II's have the lowest drop rate...
Most people will end up with tons of the Gs and Ns..... compared to the others..
AOEing sometimes does exceptionally well.. and sometimes it doesn't.
Actually for referrence .... between 10pm and 12am last night i managed to swing 8 and 12-15 words to submit... that's a 2 hour haul... on a nuker...
today.. in 3 hours... i didn't manage to get enough letters to submit ONCE..... the drop rate was roughly a letter every 15 minutes... where as the previous night.... was dropping every 30 seconds or so.
This kind of MASSIVE fluxiation doesn't occur statistically if it were based on even a Korean Random... this is a CLEAR change to the ratio drop rates over time of day..
This is repeatable every single day around the same time every day...
Just like every other event we've had before, i'll log in later tonight and in what took 3 hours to get.. i'll get halfway through the first buffround..
This is basically screws hundreds of players that work or live elsewhere in the world. Leaving about a 6 hours stretch to the people fortuneate enough to be able to play.
I do not at all comprehend HOW this is like it is... it just doesn't make any sense...
Sorry, but the event web page clearly states "Every turn-in gives you two or three Letter Collector's gift items, along with another random reward that depends on what letters you turn in." That means you not only recieve the collector's items, but an additional reward (of which is Random), nowhere on the web page doesit state or even infer that it is a random chance to recieve an additional prize. If you are going to have it like this then you should have posted it like this.

The event page was corrected a little while ago. If you click shift+ refresh, it should now show "receive the Letter Collector's Gift and a random chance at one of the following additional rewards:"
The way that it is working in-game is correct, it was just explained in a misleading way on the website until now.
That is what is observed always.
There is some specific ratio what has to be achieved across server.
Let say 1/50.
AT moment zero - when servers are going up, counter of drops specific item is 0. (or some value below 1/50)
That means for some time items drop more frequent.
When they reach proper level they keep - Korean random (*).
You can observ that effect every restart after crash or after maintenance when new event is started, item get dropped more often.
More or less ppl described here now.
First night after event starts - Eldorado .. now .. ehhh ;)
(*) Few days ago I've started 3rd class for one of mine alts.
I'm doing Ketra/Varka quest.
I'm doing it in duo.
Both started in soldiers counter 0.
I already passed 1st part (100 soldiers) when they reach 1st part in ratio 100/99 ... and doing 2nd
There were moment when I got almost 5:1 item ratio like 39 : 9.
Now first got 100 second ... 102
Korean random?

So Its you who steals my mobs!
IMO every letters have the same chances of dropping, at any time of the day. It's just Korean Random like the weapon enchanting event when my stats of OEing were at 70% success on more than one thousand attempts instead of 66%. How much bigger the figure should be when the normal use of those % chance of success are on a couple dozens of attempts when you're rich?
I don't know why they are all searching for Higgs' boson when it's clear the missing elementary particule is Korean Random.
I am sure that S and II have lower chance to drop. It has been so for years all those times when we had letters events.
It is also like that in any lottery/contest in real life. You are asked to collect 5 items from cereal boxes but you find 4 items with equal chance and you struggle to get 5th one. Everything with collecting something has one-two rare items to make it harder.

I agree 100% with U.
I get that on my second event on retail.
And I dont agrre with the guy who said, the all letters have the sabe drop rate, this is in our face, the the letters II and S, dont drop, if U have, 50 N and 0 S or 0 II, of course is not the same rate.
I farm 7 hours and get 3 II and 6 S.
when i trade with the npc, my status matters? like, my lv or subs?
WELL, can u admin guyz spend some time to increase that S and II rate?

Drop rate for letters in general fluctuates. Some letters are more rare than others in general and that's a feature, not Korean random. OE success rates of 70% for melee weapons and 40% for mage weapons is also a feature, proven many times, not a bug or Korean random, they just insist on not correcting the 2/3 success rate staement for years.
Check how many "N" you have, you ll see its about double any other common letter. It's approximately double because you need for both words.
Random is random, not fixed. As all "random" stuff in IT there is always a random number generator that is run when you need something random. Depending on how many times the routine is run, the results will start to converge to a fixed number which happens to be the statistical average for any given randomness, like flipping a coin.
All other theories of producing randomness are not realistic. It would put a huge load on an application server and tremendous amount of worthless data in a database t omatterialize and in the same time the effect would be exactly the same (after a big number of tests) than just running a random number generator every time.
If you flip a coin 10 times you might not observer 5 heads / 5 tails. If you flip a coin 1.000.000 times, you ll observer almost 50% heads / 50% tails.
For experiments with more than 2 (head / tail) but 100 results, or more "rare" results (not 50% but 1%) you need even more tests. For example, if you need 50 tests to figure out the 50% chance of flipping a coin, you need 2.500 tests to figure out (with same accuracy) the 1% chance of a drop. If you kill 100 mobs and it does not drop, that does not mean something, it's the same like flipping a coin twice. Also if you kill 50 mobs and it drops, it does not mean something, it's like flipping a coin once.
Why list possible rewards for this Letter Event when 80% of the time ( YES 80%) all you will get for a Hand in of Words is Collection Coins. They are nice, yes, attack speed, woot , fun, nice for pvp, as is obvious by which clans are paying the most for em, but after 26 hand ins of words do i really need 67 of them? 67 after 2 days of the event, so on average I waill end up with 250 of them after a week. I don't expect a Vesper Weapon, or armor, but i thought for sure that attribute crystals would be a regular thing as they are so much more common now. God, 200000 different cloaks first now an abundance of collector coins, I don't get it.....
I get your point, though for the specific event I'm talking about, there were specific event enchant scrolls which were stated as giving 2/3 success. And while I noted a 70% rate for me, someone else got 67% success. We both were backed up with Bernouilli's calculation to have a 1% margin of error (so less than 1% chance of success up or down). While he could have said "ok it can be 2/3", I couldn't.
IMO the RNG has a problem of spreading of results, according to players who fail several times in a row a skill enchant with 98% chance of success.
I understand that there are weights to the letters, because some are in both words, or twice in one word. But for example yesterday I hunted a bit solo and got some letters. The problematic letter for me wasn't the S at all, it was the F.
Allow me to share my doubts about the S as a rare letter. It's more likely to come from an observation of the first hunting results of someone. I'd like to see bigger figures of course.

Happy 7th L2....
Then you are just unlucky, Ive turned in about 18 words so far, maybe 3-4 was just the buff. Most were BSOE / Brez, although last night I did get a sealed vesper shield too.
I dunno, I was hunting in Dino last night for 3 hours and got to turn in 7 LineageII's and 5 NCSoft's. 4 BREZ, 4 BSOE, some QHP's and a bunch of buff gifts.
Last night? I guess that awnsers. I think the drops are better at night, and then, I play in the morning. That's just unfair. Why won't they make an event for everyone?
I think i figure out the drop rate system for the letters too..
THIS IS DURING PEAK Letter drop rate periods)
i'm actually fairly positive..
It's not put in the drop tables as a random drop...
it's a guaranteed drop but on a timer..
EVERY 25 seconds (give or take.... but i'll use 25 seconds as it seemed to work out like that..)
after 25 seconds... there is about a 5 second period in which every single mob that is killed in that 5 second period drops a letter GUARANTEED..
After that period is up.. the 25 second counter starts again and rince and repeat.
IF someone pulling trains can managed to time it right so that all the mobs are killed in that moment, they'll get a pile of letters.
However it initially "appears" random because we kill at relatively random rates... be it critical hits and distance to each mob and so on and so forth..
However how i managed to figure this out is based on a factor of being in an isolated are where all the mobs are a instant one shot for the nuker i have... It's casting speed is quite high and the mobs remain very close together.
Under the best circumstances (if i were a spellsinger it'd be better)..... i can managed 4 and rarely 5 letters drops...... Most often i get 3..... and it appears to happen quite often i only get 2 because of the mobs UDing or failed spell which is extremely annoying but oh well..
You can test this yourself.
I had to explain it to my clannies a little and in the end had to ask them to come to where i was soloing and farming for them to actually comprehend.
If your on vent... or a realtime chat system, you'll notice that everyone gets the letter drops at the exact same time..
The moment the first one drops.... everyone will get letters drops at the same time for about 5 seconds...
It also appears that the timing of the kill will determine which letters you get..
far as i can figure... the II's drop at the start of the timer (making it EXCEPTIONALLY hard to get) and the S's drop at the END of the timer..
Essentially you need perfect timing..
How do i suppose i think this is how it is?
because the II's always show up as the first to drop.... always....
the S's always show up as the LAST letter to drop...
The other letters seen to repeat at least twice throughout the middle of that 5 second counter...
Frankly this explains quite a lot about how the letter event works.
And i have a suspicion that this also effects the turn in.
If multiple people attempt to turn in at the exact sam time.... i've noticed that people end up with the same thing..
The epics showing up for those that happen to turn in among that 5 second period perhaps.. and 5 seconds gets you a specific peice of armor (within that 5 seconds).... another 5 seconds get you a crystal (within those 5), weapons (within those 5)... etc. and so forth.
i'd say about HALF of the time that you have to submit gets you nothing..
It's not random actually...
NCSoft saved money on creating a random generator by using human/real life interactions as the random generator... at least for this....
I am actually waiting for a couple more C as I have 2 S but not the respective Cs, so your mileage might vary.
Regarding hyperlite, one word...
Amen...
M
Since we all aspire to spell words and receive a prize, and oh how we all want the illusive 'S' and 'II'..... for the unlucky souls I would like to propose the following:
allowing us to keep our letters until next year when we can try again for the 'S' and 'II'.
Whats the point of keeping the other letters if they drop like candy?
Your theory of 25s-5s for the drops is possible. It seems to corroborate what I observed. But given that, II and S haven't a lower drop rate. Maybe harder to get, though if you kill continuously you should have as much chances to get one precise letter. Personally i really didn't have to drop 100 or 250 letters before getting a II or an S. But it's logical if your theory is true.
it's all about timing... if you can nail and kill a mob at the start and end of a cycle .. you'll get the S or II....
but obviously the moment you have a start and end time.... with multiple values between.. you create a natural bell curve of probability..
The common letters in the middle will be the most frequent ones to get..
the least common will be at either end..
This is also taking into consideration of the entire populants of each server killing around the same time..... if you can time it right you can guarantee yourself II's... but it's VERY VERY VERY difficult to manage because there are countless other factors that effect if you actually do manage to kill something at the right time.
Now i sat down for about 20 minutes running a stop watch and trying to pinpoint the timing for each letter.. but it's for the most part.. mostly impossible to manage.... server lag... client lag... other factors and such.. hard to predict if your kill is going to actually happen.
BUT i was able to in 20 minutes.... snag myself 3 II's using the timer theory..... and found that pushing the envelope i was going more S's then normal.....
i think there is about a 1/4 to 1/2 a second at the start and at the end the dictates that letter drop.. the letters between however is hard to really figure out.... if it's a 5 second counter and some letters are repeated..
But lets just take 5 seconds and figure out if lets say... Lineage II is the start but reversed..
So you have L I N E A G E II followed by N C S O F T ...
Now lets say for the most part they jumbled them up in the timer.. putting II at the start and S at the end...
Now without reapeating.... if all 14 "letters" are stuck into a timer based drop system and set into an even amount of time between each within a 5 second timer table...
that means that each letter would have apprimately 1/3 of a second designated to them (probably closer to that of 2/5 of a second)
Either way.... this is only at peak drop rate times.
It seems that the 5 second rule STILL APPLIES during the slowest time at but instead of every 25 seconds .. it occurs every 15 minutes (estimated).. and of course.. if someone happens to not be killing something right at that moment for 5 seconds.. they would have to wait another 15 minutes before they would have a chance...
This is explain why some people would never see a drop at all even if they were killing non-stop.... wrong time/wrong place factors in.... I know i think i got caught several times because i'll body to mind which takes a few seconds... and sometimes you kill a mob right before.. and that very very short running distance to kill the next is all it takes to miss the oppertunity...
Frankly.... I'm still asking.. WHY is the drop rate diminished during any time of the real world day at all..
this is unacceptable.... Even freeze it at even just every 55 seconds all day long.... or don't bother at all..... Give everyone around the world that plays the game.. everyone in north america or europe that plays on his or her specific server.... but plays at whatever time they can managed without tieing in a bloody specific time frame in which it's "worth while playing"
It's ludicris to setup a MMO 24/7 game solution like this....
it's all about timing... if you can nail and kill a mob at the start and end of a cycle .. you'll get the S or II....
but obviously the moment you have a start and end time.... with multiple values between.. you create a natural bell curve of probability..
I know i think i got caught several times because i'll body to mind which takes a few seconds... and sometimes you kill a mob right before.. and that very very short running distance to kill the next is all it takes to miss the oppertunity...

i got some free time this morning and was killing 5h nonstop 8am til 1pm gmt+1 on naia with a nuker.
not a single S or II dropped ...
droprate was anyways like every 100mob = 1 letter ... hello ?
late night after 22pm - 23pm i get like 5mob = 1 letter.
why the drops on naia depend on primetime from US server ?
and worst thing at all is .. why i get like 0 (zero) when poling ?
dreads fkked anyways , u burn ur vit in no time without getting same exp as an single mob killer. i tried it several times last months, u dont get even the half exp with the same vit when poling.
i dont like to be forced to play at late night when im on euro server, i want same "worse" drop rates no matter when im playing please....
It is good to know that we are not over analyzing this event and wasting time making pivot tables on event drop rates to better maximize our efficient use of kill to cost ratios. The true core of fun could be lost in this game if we treated each event as only a formula.

in your explaination or how ever u spell it :x
a pole party would be awesome in this event especially if it takes u longer to kill mob x then mob y in a train
tho i made a warlord this double xp for fun and im pullin major trains pretty much everywhere and i dont see anywhere near as much letters dropping then when i solo with my TH
now i have to admit TH actually drops much more leters then my warlord for some reason :S i train half the mobs around ivory atm and i only get tops 1 leter each 2/3 trains lol while if i hit mobs 1 by 1 i get much more leters
mobs spawn with a set droprate tbh it drops or it doesnt i have had plenty of II and S not gonna lie that they are more rare in drop part but still
Tonight after 23:00 Naia time, I observed the drop window every 55s.
About poles, last time I tried it, we had several pulls without anything, and suddenly one pull we get 10 letters. So it may confirm it.
As Smittie remarked, for now it's just speculation, and shouldn't be stickied or taken for the absolute truth. If other players could test it too, it would help.
And for Dracha, we have fun doing this. It's fun to search for the mechanism behind the event drops. :)
"omg i turned in 10 words and only got some brez! wtf this sucks!!!!!"
in other words what ur saying is "omg i just got 5m+ for free! wtf this sucks!!!"
ive turned in 10+ words and got 2 brez and 2 bsoe and the 18 buff items. which nettos me at about 10m if i sold it all. then i also made 12m from selling the extra common letters. so i didnt get any epic omg /cry? oh wait i just made 22m EXTA/FREE. but yeah ur all right i should go mad cuz i didnt get a 800m item easily!!! omg ncsoft u suck!!!
This event, as always with item dropping events, is for solo gameplay. As a cardi I get ridiculously few letters (not even a word after several hours), so I took my arba and went solo. That would have worked better with a nuker 1-2 shotting mobs, I know, nukers have an advantage in this event, but I like to play my arba and it levels it up too. :)
Personally, I'd like to have better drops during the week-end. I tried late this morning and it was dropping like off-hours during the week. This is a pity. I don't know why they reduce the rate during the day anyway. If that's because of bots, that's not nice : it punishes the real players when it's NCsoft's responsability to remove them.
Well, I got far less letters this morning, but I got a II. Go figure! :D
Btw we see ppls talking what time of the day is best drop rate or if mobs r white, green, light blue. Even every how many sec u need to kill mpbs for best rate.
Anybody have theory about whats the best time tp give words on npc for maxim chance of good reward?
When you accept a quest, the game system examines your character's inventory and quest inventory to determine if your character has enough free inventory space for the quest item or items. Previously, if the combination of both inventories was 80% full, you could not accept the quest. This percentage has increased to 90%.
HF change. But the Event NPC still need 80% not 90%. fix please.
It is annoying that i need to go to WH every time.
for me to enjoy the game.. i prefer to completely understand the math behind it... apply reason with patterns seen...
considering my history of having 0 luck with any of the events let alone enchanting or crafting.... i have a wish to understand how and why..
korean random? doesn't appear to be so this time... as it doesn't involve a random generator... at all. Just human interaction...

Event letters drop rate is really good only if u hunt late afternoon or evening.
Den of evil time 7pm gmt +1 2h hunt 9xLineageII 6xNCsoft
Den of evil time 7am gmt +1 2h hunt no even one word
So if u can play only morning u cant participate in event that much than other who can play evening ....

Yea from my expirience I can second that. The drop rate of letters gets normal after 19:00 gmt +2

I wish NC would stop making events like this, I usally hunt early in the day, starting maybe at 09:00 - 10:00 and even if I hunt a couple of hours I almost get no letters at all.
But if I by chance I do one hour at 21:00 I get ALOT of letters.
This is as it allways have been and it really sucks.
Chronos brings a vast variety of working people from all over the world. These people work many different shifts. I noticed between (I Think) 7pm est and 1 amish the drop rates of event items are fantastic.
Now that I am playing diffrent times the 1am on to afternoon hours the drop rates are awful. I have went 1 full hour w/o a single letter drop. Please get rid of the reduced drop rates in the over night hours if you can. Or at least spread the drop rate out into a 24 hour period
Yea from my expirience I can second that. The drop rate of letters gets normal after 19:00 gmt +2
And it falls down again at 2:00 gmt+2.
It's disappointing. It's fun to go for the letters, so why turning off the tap during the day?
Hey NCsoft, it's the week-end, why doesn't it drop?
If that's because only bots play during the day, why no GM log on? Take your responsabilities : ban bots and let players enjoy the event!

Your "theory" has 2 major problems
1) Extremely difficult to program
2) No reason to do it because when a large number of kills it would converge to the same result as just programming a very simple random number generator (which already included for all drops) with different % for each letter.
The only "theory" that seems to be true during many years of events years is that drop rates change during peak times which
using the running history of the North american servers, the peak time of the server is usually after the work day has completed.... typically between 5pm and 12 midnight...
This corisponds with the sudden increase in drop rate..
And the more people i have worked with to confirm my suspiciouns..... the more confident i feel about it.
Doesn't appear to have anything to do with server population at all.
How... feel free to explain if you wish.. but even in the previous games of old age, they used a similare system for timing various "thought to be random" things..
Attempting to create a truly random generated drop table appears to be a little more difficult.
While the only thing i will say is that which letter drops i cannot determine for sure.... i'm still sitting on the Lineage II and NCSOFT being repeated twice throughout the 5 second period... the drop time delay and duration is fairly spot on and the few that have taken the time to see if my theory is at least a little accurate, say that they think i'm onto something.
2) No reason to do it because when a large number of kills it would converge to the same result as just programming a very simple random number generator (which already included for all drops) with different % for each letter.
As i stated.. which letter drops is one thing.... but as for when it drops what would be random.. isn't occuring at all.
If anything where random, there would never be a way to always be able to know when letters are going to drop.. and i've become quite good at knowing approximately when to expect them ... to the point that i will stop nuking mobs altogether and then start when i know they are about to start.
Currently knowing the timing has netted me quite often as many as 7 letters in a single 5 second run.
The only "theory" that seems to be true during many years of events years is that drop rates change during peak times which
``
1) Is easy to program
2) Has a reason
I'm interested to know what the "reason" would be... as frankly there isn't any logical reason for them to implement this....
I agree that something is wrong. When I play at noon the letters drop like 1 per 30 minutes. When the evening comes ,I get like 50 every hour. Something is wrong or the rate depends on how many ppl is online?
As the past taught us, what we do not have to count on intelligence, NCsoft. they do not even look like the wise, drop time for the European server in the middle of the night, kiss ............ yourselves, and remember this is not offensive criticism ... this is true
How... feel free to explain if you wish.. but even in the previous games of old age, they used a similare system for timing various "thought to be random" things..
That would mean different algorithms run for different "kinds" of drops, meaning separating drops to different "kinds" and maintaining separate tables for them. Those tables would not be static, defining just the target % rate for the random number generator, but pointing to other tables detailing what should drop at what exact moment. Even if granularity was set to 1 sec (other wise a drop pattern would be pretty obvious) you would have to fill thousands of columns in tables just to state if something drops or not the particular second. All above are just a small part of the "extra" complexity / overhead added to both database server and game server. Even a freshman IT student would have avoided such a kind of design. Too much complexity without a reason. Why time drops rather than just fix a x% chance and run a random number generator ? What would someone have to earn from a messed up implementation ? The only thing that could be achieve would be someone to notice the pattern. So, not only you add complexity getting nothing back, you also risk a pattern to be noticed.
No it is not. You don't make a "truly random generated drop table", that would be wrong. You make a table that defines the target rate you need, no randomness there, god saves us if there was. All programing languages have a RAND() function. The only thing you have to do is setup a table that defines a multiplier for RAND's output (which directly defines a given % rate). The "truly random" issue is out of scope. It only affects high security institutions that try to avoid the single problem of common random generators. The problem, pretty simplified can be stated that way. If you have the same number generator and if you give the same seed, same result set will be produced each time generator is run. In L2 terms that would mean that if you had the full NCSOFT software as it is now, and you knew what the initial random seed was, then you could generate the same "random" numbers. That way, in theory, you could "predict" the drops. Other factors (appart from that you don't have the full NCSOFT server side software) like you can't count all the drops from all the players all time, you cannot guarantee that you will het a hit when it's the "right" time, you cannot predict the server restarts which in general initialize the internal OS seed generator and many many others, make a simplerandom generator more than enough for calculating everything that has a chance in game.
If that was true, then all players would be able to observe it without stop / start killing. They would be able to observer that during their one hour session they got nothing for 59 minutes and then got 7 letters in one minute. Unless you claim that appart from "timing" mobs, there is other factors evolved that could justify a difference in drops when you change your killing "speed". I do not dare to think how something like that could be programmed. Examining each players kills / second and then use different drop tables. That's nearly impossible to do. Firstly define different drop rates according to time, then define extra drop tables according to killing rate. We are talking about thousands of extra tables filled with millions of extra data. And what would be the reason to implement something like that ? What would NCSOFT want to achieve doing it ? What would be the reason ?
I'm interested to know what the "reason" would be... as frankly there isn't any logical reason for them to implement this....
I carefully stated that. Read carefully. I said "2) Has a reason"
No mention of "logical reason", just reason. One reason for them to implement something like that (does not matter if we agree or not if it has sense or not) is to encourage / give slight advantage to casual players who would observer a higher reward/mob ratio than hardcore players. In their marketing or game balance logic, they try to help a bit more casual than hardcore gamers. Something like that is very easy to implement / program. You just have to pick a relatively low number of timeslots during the 1 week period and define a higher rate for those timeslots. You just pick 7 timeslots (2 hrs of peak time every day) where an alternate drop rate table comes into play with moderately elevated multipliers for RAND() output for specific (event letters) drops. If properly coded not even a new table, not even a new row on existing table needed. You keep everything as usual, executed code on its own can take make a "jump" or "fork" or follow a if/then/else statement to alter the random number by a fixed, increased %.
Just a precision : I'm not expert in that field, but given the 0 xp 0 drop mobs in the kamalokas 78+ actually drop letters, it certainly means there are several algorithms of drop on top of each other.
It may be 5 seconds of random event drops every X seconds without event drops, but it's really an observable pattern and can't come from a random function. The details are assumptions, but that observation still stands.
event drops have to be seperate from normal loot tables for each mob. I really doubt they would change all of the base loot tables for every mob on the server for the event and change them back afterwards. It has to be a subroutine that overlays the base drop table.
After event started I used to farm with party of 2, and we used t oget the occasional II or S, but the last 2 days Im farming alone and not even one, and Im out of gifts :|
This event would be nice if they replaced the 80 or so brez/bsoe's that I've gotten with element stones/crystals...
I still have yet to get any other reward.
Hold on to your BREZes and BSOEs until their value goes back up.
Sell them.
Buy your crystals and stones with your newly acquired money.

Like the redneck said...hold on to your bsoes and brezes ...they will go up in price for sure....always trust a redneck....
anything before/after that time has terrible droprate which i dont understand aswell im lucky im not havin night/morning shifts atm but people who do have it constantly never get feeling of lineage 2 "real" droprate cus same goes for item drops between those times things like key mats drop like mad
I played this game since open beta, so I'm a old timer.
I never ever complained about things before in forum, but this have gone far enough.
Ever since NC Soft started to do event with items that drop, it have been alot better for the US players than Euro ones. And it increase to be more and more narrow the window of time in which items drop, by each event.
If I want a chance to get the prices as all others in this game, I have to play from around 1 AM to 7 AM my playtime, which I find very unfair. I mean, I pay excatly the same each month like every US players does to play this game, why shouldn I get same droprate at my playtime?
And please don't start all the stuff about "you can just move to the Euro server". I could if I wanted to pay alot for it, but as told, I played this game since beta so all my friends are on this server, and not on the Euro one. When I started there was no such thing as a Euro server, And besides I can never get all my items transfered with me.
I got no chance of staying up all night just to get event items, I got a wife and kid and not to mention, a real life to attend to first of all.
So, PLEASE make the drop rate the same all 24 hours of the day, and make the event fair for all that play.
That would mean different algorithms run for different "kinds" of drops, meaning separating drops to different "kinds" and maintaining separate tables for them.
Not quoting this specifically to give a direct answer to... just for the sake of keeping the thread free of a huge quote...
BUT.. I'm certain you do realize your attempting to over complicate what i'm saying as if it were being?
you wouldn't need thousands of anything or hundreds either.
What you say does have merit to the conversation... but i honestly do not see this in an observable case to be remotely accurate or true.
Top it off checking in on what would be needed to make it work... put what i have theorized as most likely.
Lets just consider this for a moment..
The letter drop system is completely independant of the player... excisting drop tables and so forth... Interestingly enough... they seem to NOT effect the drops of what we expect (unlike other events in which clearly DO effect the drop rate of other items...)..
This is observeable.
Lets also say that the timer is server wide... based on a (lets ignore for the moment the peak time period differences in drop rate) time system for when a monster is killed... within this specific time period.... that either a static or dynamic(random) letter WILL drop... As i personally cannot confirm the drop order being 100% ordered or random... the more i play the more i'm leaning on Random but i wouldn't exclude static)
Implementation of such a system isn't at all hard.. actually it's fundementally simple and easy... There isn't really anything much to code or work with because it excludes all excisting drop tables and system checks... It simply is what it is... "Mob dies at time 19:44:25-19:44:30 = Drop "x" letter"
Codeing for that wouldn't be hard.... And that is actually observable and confirmable in the sense that reguardless of where you are in the game of lineage II and what mob your killing.. ANYTHING that dies in that 5 second period EVERY 25 seconds after each drop period had completed....
What letter you get i cannot say..... but at least i can indeed without a shadow of doubt predict the drop times and drop period. And more and more people that take this into consideration will agree provided they feel the need to test it.
Go yourself.. test it..
Jump on a lowbie nuker (lvl 1 or whatever)..... buff it right out maxed out gear.... better yet a lvl 40 sub with great gear and buffs.. and go solo kill one shot mobs... Let me know how you do... i'm more then just positive you'll agree that there is indeed a time based system.
Better yet.... invite 8 others to a party in which none of you are anywhere near each other.... and watch as you all pickup letters ALL at nearly the same time (accounting for walking distance and kill rate)...
Guarantee you... under PEAK times... all the letters drop at the same exact time frame.
Absolutely agree!
Hard to get II or S. Ok
Even you bring complete word to event npc, hard to get NORMAL reward, (I mean atr cry). But Ok!
Event letters start dramaticaly drop at evening (server time)! WTH? It's nice to whole game community??? I tear my eyes at 5am my local time to have chance make a complete word, because in my prime time letters drop like 2 per hour!! All ppl pay same subscription fee, but some have a much lower chance to make those words, then others, on regular basis during whole event. And its not a random, even not a "korean" random. Just fixed time, when drop dramatically decreases! What a discrimination! And it's was always like that during this 7 years in some such events. I hate them.
Yes, this is QQ, and was many, many such qq posts, and nothing changed. I glad that someone got smth useful. But event sux, because drop event items based on the FIXED REAL TIME.
P.S. I think, it's old style event system, which prevent chinese bots get too much event items, when GMs are asleep ;) But why now?
Botoevent without bots.
Paradox ...
 Im sry 4 beeing an Noob but just started an new acount on a box and wondering if this qualify to get some Anniversary gifts?? Started 5´t of May??
