I enjoyed the double XP week. I was able to reach 82 on my BladeDancer and complete the Freya quest chain. I was also able to get my first sub, a Bishop, to 68 and collect my very first sub-skill certificate.
When I saw the 3 gift cloaks on the 7th Anniversary event page, I thought to myself "those do look sweet, but I bet they are not gonna have any element and thus be useless outside of looking like a badass in town." So you can imagine I was extremely surprised and very pleased to see the red cloak this morning. 7 omni-elemental resist and the cloak is no-grade to boot. This is a very nice reward indeed. Just shy of being as good as the raid boss quest cloaks, yet free and able to be used on any character on my account that is 76+ and wearing dynasty. I am very much looking forward to May 11th now to check out my pending Black and White cloaks.
Now we come to my first disappointment with the anniversary event thus far. The Letters Event. I know the rare rewards are quite good, and even the common rewards are fairly decent (except for the potions which I could care less about.) The only problem I have with them right now is the extremely low drop rate. It seems to me the drop rate is 1 letter in 10 minutes. I know some have said to have a much higher drop rate, however they seem to be the outlying exceptions to the rule. At this point in time, I find myself quite busy with end of spring activities and demands in the real world and as such very little time to play and mindlessly grind on mobs. As such, would it be possible to tweak the drop rates upward slightly? Say 1 letter every 5 minutes?
Either way, there is my thoughts on this event up to this point.

this event is all about chance: the more u turn in, the more chance u got. but YOU have to GET more. the game should not and will not GIVE u more. if you cant make time for it then deal with the fact u wont gain much either.

"i work 2 jobs in rl, an dhave kids and all! i can play 1 hour a day! please increase exp rate x10 so i can lvl faster!"
basically, if you have any life outside of your computer chair, you have no hope of getting an epic. pretty disappointing, but i dont see a way around it. as always, the rich get richer and the poor get... well, the poor get a couple BREZ.

yes because ncsoft should give EVERYONE an epic easily without any effort for it :)

Not really. I play casually and have 4/5, so there is still hope for you.
I didnt get 4/5 by being lazy nor stupid. I never waste adena, but also dont always pick it up.

Unfortunately, L2 isn't a finished product you buy at wallmart or an individualized service. There are many customers, with each their habits, their playstyle. NCsoft can't accommodate to one customer's specific request. However the feedback is there to gather opinions of the customers in order to help NCsoft to find the best compromise and please the most of their customers. At a point, that may include you or not.

First off, stop derailing the purpose of this thread. It is to provide an individuals opinion to NC Soft. If you would like to add you opinion on the 7th Anniversary Event you are more than welcome to post it here.

Calm down and enjoy either your outside life or the ingame event. Your choice.
This event should be called the "CLOAK" event imho; feels like we were given 7 cloaks for each year. With GoD approaching there should be much more focus on preparing the peeps that are here for the change. Noble Enhancement Stones should definitely have been considered for the event; imagine all the 84+ legits that can't wear their brand new cloaks.
If it gets people to re-sub to the game I guess it is doing as intended but for working, paying customers with families ( not the 24 / 7 L2 peeps that live at mom's place) this event is just "ok".

BTW, I handed in 12 Words so far in the Letter event, 11/12 hand ins netted me just coins. 1/12 to get a random reward that I thought wa going to be in every hand in is just plain silly. I see no reason to not sell the letters.

Increase the droprate on letters...
Decrease the chance on getting epic when turning in letters...
Dunno why u cant think of somthing as simple ast that ....
It's true even for people that have a constant and do AOE...
And 1 letter per group of 20 mobs ...if lucky ...depressing really....

I'll echo this. The party I was in hunting in Hellbound for 3 hours got only three letters, maybe four. ~_~ Increase the letter drop rate, but I doubt that the best rewards rate is fantastic, really, so for the love of sanity, don't change that.
Update: With the first week of the letter portion of the event now behind us, here is my new observations. I have noticed that when the Grand Olympiad starts up each day at 6pm the drop rate for letters also increases dramatically. So on the score of my original complaint about the drop rate, I'll just scrub that out and say it isn't so bad after all. The EU players in clan still complain since these hours are way late at night for them (Oly starts at midnight for the western most portion of Europe) and I can understand their complaint.
With that said, I'ma just keep farming and saving my letters and then turn them all in late night Tuesday next week and hope I get lucky for once and get something nice. Even an element crystal would be a huge break in my favor for once.
With my letter complaint no longer valid, I do have one other complaint. I can't store my Milks on my pets so I can't use them to buff my wolf. :(
The event was awesome. Just didn't really enjoy the ridiculous amount of returning players flooding the map and, in most cases, only disturbing and then leaving after the free time ends.
The letters drop rate was always fair to me. Thanks to this event good to go equip-wise up to S grade. You only needed to be patient.
