So I picked up L2 in April after a couple years off and there are things I learned way later than I wanted to. So here's a thread where you can post all the things you wish you knew so new players can plan their character better.
1) I was expecting to use my sub as my PvP char. Turns out that you need to be 83+ to pvp and preferably higher so don't expect to pvp successfully on your sub unless it's a singer/dancer. Even then...
2) You can become a noblesse and subclass with no effort by participating in territory wars every other Saturday. Two or three TWs is all you need to get the 100 badges that let you become a noblesse and sub without doing the quests.
3) There is an instanced dungeon you can run at 3 different intervals on your char called Pailaka. The last one will give you 25% of your level at 75.
4) buffalo and kooka pets can serve as a substitute for a boxed buffer if you don't want a second account as they can buff you, heal and recharge.
At D level, I would try to get a nice set of +6 armor and a good over enchanted pole with a pole user. Find a nice healer and do the catas for as long as I could to collect the AA for cash and to have once I get into the upper levels.
It goes against all this game has at the end game, but this will make you oodles of money, and you can help off set the cost at mid game with this.
It is also a good way to meet peeps and maybe find a good clan.
Now if you are into power leveling, look in the towns for the karma groups along with get to 60+ and do toi for a few days.
In L2 things take a LOOOOONG time, and before you can pvp there is a lot of grind involved, you cant expect to level overnight like on a private server. I look at L2 like a hobbie, I play almost casualy because the game doesnt allow me to do it any other way since I hate alts. I know that it will take me a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time for my WC to be any good. I also know that I will never be an elite player. I play cause i like the game.
Bottom line : L2 is not for everyone, everyone can have fun but not all can be good at it, i certainly wont be. :)
Careful char planing is required , +1 for this thread.
* Radar 3rd party software..... they can see u where ever you are , what equipment you have (elements etc.) clan name everything...
You where thinking to lvl up a dagger so they cant see you also with radar?
Fail ..... they can see you also with hide
*CP spam software .... spam cp till the user dont have any pots ..
Its an old game i can leave with it ... have fun ppl's
1. This is a PVP game and you don't need to be 85+ to PVP. You may be viewed as a borderline in-game psychotic personality, but feel free to engage anyone your level in PVP. It wasn't that long ago that I witnessed two level 40ish toons whacking each other in a necro over purported drop stealing. it's your game, your time, make it fun for you.
2. The market is PVP by other means. You've been warned.
3. Lineage is like the real world. Even though it's been around for ages, there are still plenty of niche opportunities for enterprising young minds. Don't be afraid to innovate and add a wrinkle to something that people have been doing mindlessly for years.
I never expected that I would have to level more than in 1 character in order to afford to equip my main. Although I leveled before vitality, I still had to level 3 characters to help me in adena grind. Now, levels come way faster but adena drops remain the same. So, making more than one toon is still a necessity. Playing the market will take some time to learn the game (what is needed, how you can get it, etc)
um, I strongly recommend you do not spend good money on anything below S-grade; +6 set or strong weapon at D grade is a waste; but again, play however you want... but remember, if you are going to play at 76+ costs become exponentially higher so save wisely for that; you can get by in common gear just fine till 76, after that, elemented weapon and elemented armor are vitally important. it's also been very advantageous to have a second account with buffers; but it can be lonely to solo all the time ofc. Party matching system is very good, everyone should be on that all the time imo
this thread will be nostalgia when GoD hits and all the things you thought you knew about L2 go out the window.
What really amazes me is the fact that every new patch brings the doomsayers. I remember people complaining before Chronicle 2 about everything, like "i wont ever be as before, L2 suxx now, screw this noob NC soft".

Yeah, that is why L2 went from 9 servers, then had 2 server merges and is now down to 2 servers because everybody in the world loves all the new patches.
But if I new then what I know how I would have made dwarves back during C1 and made a good living making and selling Brigadine Helmets and Sheilds. lol

it wasnt always a downhill slide. we started from retail with Bartz, Sieghart and Kain. there were so many flooded servers we opened 5 new servers almost right away and STILL bartz had a hard time coping. some time later they introduced the euro server teon due to players from all servers complaining of scheduling for sieges.
since then, the euro server community grew to 3 x the original population while everywhere else expereinced population decreases.
Aim for what you can reach for. Set some reasonable aims, work for them, achieve them, be happy, set new aims ...
No sense setting some very long term or very hard aims at start. Work your way up. Step after step. Lineage II still needs much time (well, lot less than before but still a lot).
Be happy with what you can do, don't get to stressed by things you can't do. And always remember .. You can't have all at once. You can't have levels + gear + adena fast.
Last but not least, its just a game, you play it to spend some time to have fun, to escape from some rl stress for a while. There always will be people that you will never reach unless you can play 10 hrs a day for some years. So if you are a "casual" find ppl at your standards and have fun.

Yep, because there are only 2 L2 servers in the whole world
Private servers do not count, nor do the countries who do not allow us to play on them.. like Korean servers. :D
But... if the servers that don't allow you to play on them are fine... may it be that the problem is in you, and not in the patches? :D
I have no problems, I just do not like the direction L2 is going with all the new carebear patches making everything too easy. Plus since the last two Us/Euro retail servers have less than 1000 "live" players on them shows the decline of the game; botting (yes, I still find bots) and multi-boxing (kills the players playing support classes, plus newbie buffs to level 72).
Once GoD comes to the US/Euro servers my days of playing L2 will be over (unless a better game comes out beforehand)... and no, you can't have all my S grade stuff. :D
Oh, and I have played on the Korean servers as well as the Russian servers since part of my job requires traveling to different countries. It helps to have friends living there who have active retail accounts, it is also where I played GoD in the Korean PTS servers (less that 2 weeks ago) and discovered just how much I hate it. :D

well, i'm not preaching doom. i rather think GoD brings some accessibility to the game that bridges a few gaps, but has created a few others; possibly bigger.
however as updates go GoD crops as the biggest update to L2 in its 7 year history, with changes to every part of the game, not exclusively high level content.
when we were added 3rd class we didnt get changes to the 1-75 range. with this update we get changes spanning levels 1 to 85, with 14 new levels of content, and hunting zones too numerous to number. no longer are you "confined" anywhere for hours on end with no drops. now you have areas to solo in and party in and quest in and campaign in and it doesnt matter your class, as with recent history in L2. no more "archer areas" "melee areas" etc etc...
they added new RB, fixed some old RB, made new jewels, harder bosses, the list can go on as long as your arm.
all cool changes.
thats part of the reason i explained - this thread will be ridiculous to look at when the update hits. all the knowledge we have of how the game works is null. when new players ask "whats best area to level 1-75 for class x" we now dont have to say "go here, there, and this other place" because we can say truthfully "do the quests" and bang, new player is off with fruitful rewarding adventures to reach competent levels without help, and has a basic knowledge of a class soon to be forgotten in the sea of awakening jumbling.
we can say "be a [class y] till 85 and awaken as [class z] because you will be better as that than your existing archetype."
now when people say "whats the best melee dd" we can answer "1-85 nobody cares, past that tyr warrior hands down" and lul quietly to ourselfs as people wonder why nobody gives 1-85 advice anymore.
this is whats killing L2 in the mmo world. theres no guide or rhyme or reason to giving people advice for levels under max level. in other games as wow and pretty well every f2p game out there, theres a guide based on class, race, and playstyle. with L2 the guides that got written in time past are all but obsolete. the changes happen so hard so fast that any chance to help players who dont know what a "tyrant" is (other than politically) get tossed down the tubes when they read the guides posted. let alone the descriptions given by NC for the classes; i mean seriously... who foregoes armor and weapons in lieu of tattoos... no tyrant i know.
so no, TL;DR im not preaching doom. L2 is undergoing a massive MASSIVE change. the L2 we knew and got addicted to is gone.
Yeah lots of "changes", that's cute. I wonder... can GoD be called an "expansion" when it makes the game poorer?
I mean when you hear "expansion", you think of new horizons, unprecedented adventures, additional features making your game more filled... not really the closing of some pastures, the reducing of possible differences between each other, the replacement of player conflicts by a candy dispenser, etc.
As patchnotes arrive, I see less and less GoD as the biggest chapter ever added and more and more as an impressive flatulence. It makes a lot of noise, everybody is amazed but in the end it stinks.
Yeah I know, poetry.

I wouldn't have put it in quite those terms but my sentiment entirely

epic.
I wish I knew that L2 as I've known it for 6+ years would end at lvl 85. And that update would bring an entirely different game. Joke is on me for wasting so much time here.
Wish I knew I needed two accounts for buffer since being unbuffed made you worthless.
Wish I knew that you have to collect mats and exploit certain items to make money.
Wish I knew how ******ed evasion was in the first chronicle.
Wish I knew that archers would be dominant for 6 chronicles.
Wish I knew to make 2 dozen might mortal daggers.
Wish I knew to exploit cancel/para IWIN buttons while I still could.
Wish I knew to exploit poling before it got chain nerfed.
Wish i knew to exploit VR before it also got nerfed.
Wish I had never quit to play WoW. WoW was a worse waste of time, and all it did was screw me in L2.
Wish I had saved my money after my last "quit" since theres been massive deflation. I bought a 300mil drac bow thats not worth 50mil now.
Wish my second account wasn't a prophet. Seriously NC, Orcs have nearly every buff in the game, and you give PP earth resist.....really? REALLY?
Wish I knew another game that was a tenth of the joy, pain, boredom, fun this one was. I honestly believe we'll never see another persistent world death penalty Open PvP game ever again. Maybe small half-*** independent releases. But nothing major, never again.
