Rare Dual question

the question is what exactly is required for rare duals?

at the npc when dualing it has a specific rare dagger listed as a requirment. ex. rare dyn dual daggers is listed as requiring a rare dyn dagger + normal soul sep.
so is that the only possible combination or can you use for example a normal dyn dagger + rare SS?
just curious if having a MW that is the low 1/2 of a set of duals is worthless or if i should combine it.

any confirmed info would be super.

didnt know if mammon had options that gludio base doesnt.
