We'll need R-cry to craft RSS and RbSps. But what the quantity needed?
And as BS of mammon won't sell crystals anymore, i bet we'll have to crystallize R items to have R crystals, won't we?
The purple dye was obtained from Hexaplex trunculus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexaplex_trunculus), a sea snail that you first have to fish, then process. Even with wages being lower in the good old days, that made the dye quite expensive :)
The really interesting thing is that the Giants originally did not have any royalty (the "R" in "R-Grade equipment" stands for "Royal"). According to the Lilith lore, they had a Roman-style democracy and were ruled by a First Titan (primus inter pares). One can't help the impression that one reason for destroying the Starter Villages and closing up the Catacombs is to remove the old lore from the game, making it easier to accommodate the "revised history" - a process Redneck once called "shoehorning" :D
Other races can craft them too, with Create Common Item lvl 10. But the Common Craft recipe is more difficult to obtain.
