Announcing our next contest: the Words of the Wise! This contest invites you to write a leveling guide that will teach fellow players some of the helpful knowledge you've learned over your time playing Lineage II. This is contest will be judged by players, and the winners receive a weapon of their choice! Read more about it on the event page (http://www.lineage2.com/archive/2011/08/words_of_the_wi.html). :) Have fun!
Doesnt matter what class do you have, in pole party everyone gets the same exp...
Or should we mention that 85/80/80/80 possible in 1 month? Just get good friends who take you for anakim exp...
What kind of guide you wanna read? ><
Your guide must be between 500 and 1000 words long.
All guide longer than 1000 words will not be elligible at all, or could be elligible, and loss (so I get 2 cookies :P). I rather write a guide for players more than for the reward
Edit: No PDf too ? it's easier to include images :D
Edit 2 : Could I include some parts of my own guides I wrote ?
Edit 3 : Will the "judge part" will be anonymous, i.e players will not know who wrote the guide ? -> OK FOUND :D
Edit 4 : If I do a doc file with several images inside, how will you render that on the forum since there is a 3 picture limite ? Or the sentence below
You may provide one screenshot or image if you need to show a picture to help explain something you're saying in the guide. If you do include an image, it must be no larger than 1024x768.
specify you could use only one image ?

If you want to write about poling, you can pick a zone or a level range that is good for poling. Or you can make it a Class guide by focusing on a polearm mastery class, like a dwarf, and then make a quick but not elaborate mention that other classes can use polearms too.
All guide longer than 1000 words will not be elligible at all, or could be elligible, and loss (so I get 2 cookies :P). I rather write a guide for players more than for the reward
Aside from the contest, all players are welcome to write guides and post them on the forums or fansites. :)

Edit 4 : If I do a doc file with several images inside, how will you render that on the forum since there is a 3 picture limite ? Or the sentence below
specify you could use only one image ?
It is a one-image limit. The guides are meant to be text-based and not full of images. Another reason for this is that, in posting the winning guides on the website where the pages are very vertical, we don't want to make an entry seem longer than it is by filling it with images. Players will be scrolling through these trying to get to the guides or parts they want to read.
If you need to include different images, you can use a paint program to compile them into one single image, which still must be no larger than 1024x768. Because of the one-image limit, .doc or .txt is preferred. Also we cannot reproduce the quality and formatting of a PDF when we put the guides onto the website or the forums.
Edit 2 : Could I include some parts of my own guides I wrote ?
Yes, but please include links to where you posted these guides elsewhere on the internet, and we may have some questions for you which will verify your ownership of the text.
Edit 3 : Will the "judge part" will be anonymous, i.e players will not know who wrote the guide ? -> OK FOUND :D
Yes, as you found, the voting polls will be private, not public, meaning the voter's forum name will not be visible to anyone but admin.
What is the point of this contest when soon GoD comes out and all this guides will not apply anymore?
This is exactly what I was thinking...
Working on guides takes time, and if it's rewarded by a prize why not, but if it's obsolete three months later... a lot of sweat for nothing. Though I would find funny to see GoD guides translated in English in this contest. And frankly, that's what we need.
This constest would have been awesome a few weeks after the launch of GoD. Maybe you'll do it again, but right now... why?
GoD might not be as soon as we think (It could still be months away) and the point of these guides (I assume) would be to aid people in getting to 85 prior to GoD.

Indeed, this contest is meant to help players get to higher levels before launch. Most guides of 1-85 will still be plenty useful after GD; GD is not changing everything and most of the GD update is 85+. Players are always welcome to post guides any time, for this contest or not, before GD or after.

Surely u would agree that ur doing as much as u can to get as many ppl as possible to 85 pre update ? if thats true then the fact that its content is 85+ does change everything because u are expecting most of ur player base to be over 85 :-S

We're also expecting a lot of new players after GD launches, so the guides of 1 to 85 will be helpful to them as well as to players working up to 85 right now. :)
Seems to me new players wont learn anything from our guides since all are different to them than it was for us,we played a life inside L2 and they will just run through whatever class they make to 85 and then switch it for the class that will be OP.
But if you want nostalgic guides about how the game used to be...

I don't agree because :
- New players will not have the stone of destiny
- Even if leveling is easier, quests are here, most of areas doesn't change. So instead of spending 7 days in Tower of Insolence for exemple, you will spend one or two. It's still nice to now how it does work :D
But if you do not want to compete, I'll be happy too
It's a nice idea but I won't take part because the restrictions are too heavy for me and the timing for this thing seems bad to me :(
The restrictions with the max amount of words, and only 1 pic are deal-breakers for me. As is the .doc Format.
I expect from all the Korean Info that at least 1-65 will have no value in our guides whatsoever for people after GoD. Also with the revised leveling curves a lot of ppl might take different approaches to 65-85 than we do now.
Good luck to all the participants of this contest :)
Uhm.....although this seems to be a nice idea, what is the point with the new update coming out in the Fall? Most of the "wise" in this game presently will not know anything about leveling in G0D.....
I am confused......write a guide for a 1-2 month new user? Why not just give all the old players a reward for staying here so long...i.e. Aion Veteran Reward....a guide for who again?
Why would a person be rewarded for giving info on how to level when the game is going to be, all things considered, a new game in less than 2 months?
Here is a MW weapon for telling a newb to level in a spot that will no longer exist, or have a different requirement....for that matter we have no clue what mob drops what to help you craft a required set of armor, or make a weapon, because our DB doe not give us that info...
so we will get out players to write one....
Here is my guide, pay me...
Kill mob, repeat, kill mob, repeat....join a clan, kill a raid, go TWar....kill mob, repeat...go siege...kill mob, repeat.....ding u 85 in 3 months....
if anything it should focus on lvl 65-> 85 as in GoD there will be new quests that makes anything pre 65 useless..
the only real good advise I can give any new player is go out there and meet other players, add the nice ones/classes that helps you xp to your friend list.. don't be afraid to ask advise to high level players be that ingame or on forums..
if you're lucky or smart networker you will meet the right kind of players that can and are willing to help you reach your goals & truly push your char forward.
sure reading quest guides and knowing what to do will help as well as that makes you a bit independent but this is a MMO and the fast track involves socializing with others :)
ps, Sace I'll accept 1 chocolate cookie for every char I help(ed) hit 85 ok ?
pps, don't need anything for it but in case NC Soft want's to quote me here: "I permit NC Interactive, Inc. and NCsoft Europe Limited to use my name, likeness, photograph, hometown and any comments which I may make about myself and/or this Contest that I may provide for advertising and promotional purposes. By submitting an entry to this Contest, I accept and agree to be bound by the Lineage II Words of the Wise Contest Official Rules and Conditions as displayed on the Lineage II website. Best Regards, Draecke"
There is one thing you seems you doesn't understand.
Leveling change in GoD: more quests useful, less xp per level.
Except that until level 85, it's almost the same game (except the party limitation)
That's why I think it'll still be useful to write such guides :)
Why to write a guide about fastest or more adena rewarding lvling for necro using mage spots but also melees spots xping with his pet, what tips for xp in every place, what tips for pvp with necro, when no player that wants be a mage in game wont ever make a necro-since necro doesnt exist in GOD and GOD is the L2 game for new players-he will just make a mage of the race that has best race skills and is the easiest to plvl.
Same goes for other classes also that merge or dissapear, who will bother create and learn them.
-BTW,2 SH heroes tonight dead with their party, they r nothing but hero chat and anakims- :p
Atarth there are still some general things that for us might be obvious but for a new player not that could be beneficial for him/her to know.. like what I posted ~10min ago ^^"
I'm with you on some of the significant changes GoD brings as it kind of killed the bard class almost same way as it did for Necro but there's nothing we can do about that..
if anything we could add some disclaimers to the guide explaining that pre awakening/85 the class, if it does change significantly like bd/sws/necro, will have a complete different play style/feel and even gear requirements then after aka 85+ so they can plan ahead and spent their adena/time/resources wisely etc.
just saying this is not the place to voice old frustrations, it's way more productive to make ppl aware upfront so they will not have to go through the feelings we have now about how drastically our class will change :)

They should write a guide on how to feed in oly. :D
I guess the idea of Sace was a guide to finish the lvl 85 fast before GoD. So you can write a guide to lvl an OL from 1 to 61 for trolling, but it surely won't win.
FYI everyone thinking about sending in an entry: the Class category has reached 10 eligible entries already.
Remember, only 10 entries will be judged in each category. (If there are more than 10 eligible entries for one category when the entry period closes, the staff will read them and pick out the 10 best to post in the voting threads.)
The Zone and Level categories are not full yet, and I'll post here if/when they do fill. There's one more week in the entry period, so start writing and get a chance at that weapon prize! :)
But, basically, It still means we could send guides, and hope it'll be in the top 10 from the one selectionned by the staff ? :)
Hehe, if staff will select it, it's clear about some ppl's chances :)
There are some guides needed, top clans dont bother for their newbies 80+ even if that costs them lots of crp.
M
But, basically, It still means we could send guides, and hope it'll be in the top 10 from the one selectionned by the staff ? :)
Yes, of course you may submit a guide to whatever category you like. :) Just saying that, if you submit one to a category that isn't already at 10, your guide will definitely be included in the voting.
Could we put url in the guide to some images ? Is it one word ? If no, how do you count ?
No URLs. The image included in the guide (if you choose to include one) must be sent as a file in JPEG format and in the proper size. Then we'll upload it to the official site to use in the judging and display.
I'm afraid not. We currently only have legal permission to run contests with residents of the USA*, Canada*, and the European Union. (a couple of state/area exceptions)
The use of copyrighted material or trade marks NOT owned by the Sponsors or yourself is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. Your submission must not infringe any patent, copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right, or any privacy, publicity or publishing rights of any third party, or be libelous, obscene or otherwise contrary to law.
Could I use screenshots of the ingame map so, with one dot added with the paint program ?
Lol, I just realized that I can't submit an entry to this contest...
Not that I would but it's just sad to know that Brazilian players can't have free cookies...
:(
~Lux
Well, i would have, but since it will be manually selected and not all anonimously put to vote, there is no point.
Our newbies have the guides in our forum and live advice at most hours, so it is not an issue for us.

Can we use rich editing (colours, bold, italic, etc) or should it be plain text black on white?
I have a weird question, after re reading the rules
There will be nine poll threads, three (one each first first, second, and third place) for each of the three categories. Each poll will ask "Choose an X place winner for X category." All of the entries for each category will be posted in all three threads for that category. The titles of the entries will be listed as answer options in the poll question. The identities of the authors will not be revealed in the poll threads.
What happens if a guide is in the top in the poll for the 1st and the 2nd ?
It'll be the first, and the second winner in the 2nd poll will be the second one ?
Laby

In that situation you are correct. The winner of a first place thread will be first place regardless of other threads it also wins. The second place would go to the runner-up.

It's not better just make one poll and take the top 3 voted guides instead of a poll for each place??
Voting will start tomorrow and will stay open 7 days
After this week, the winners will be chosen :) (choosen or chosen ? I never remember)
@Grammar
I guess "choosen" doesn't exists...
I think it's Choose (Simple Present, "Pikachu, I choose you!"), Chose (Simple Past, "He chose to walk instead of taking a cab") and Chosen (Past Participle, "I was chosen to be their king for the next reign") :)
darnit, i had planned on writing something up, although i'm not sure how much detail i could go into...
who am i kidding, i'm extremely long winded and detailed.
my fault for waiting til the last minute.
i also blame my work for having me work a late 9 hour shift on the 31st, my planned writing day.
but still, my fault.
well, i hope the participants enjoy their spoiles.

Unfortunately the vBulletin poll functionality is limited: you can only have 1 poll question in a thread, so we cannot make any structure that would allow 1 thread to include all the class entries. There were other voting methods we considered, but after research and debate, 9 poll threads was ultimately the simplest method.
By the way, as you know the entry period is now closed. We've received a total of 58 eligible entries: 36 Class entries, 9 Level entries, and 13 Zone entries. As explained on the contest page, and in entry-reply emails, only 10 entries from each category can be included in the voting stage. Thus, the top 10 entries of the Class and Zone categories will be selected by the staff to continue to the voting stage. Eligible entries not selected for the voting stage, as well as those entries that do not win the voting stage, will receive the participation prize.
The voting polls will be posted tomorrow, including explanation about how the voting threads work. Stay tuned! :)
I'm sorry Sace, but I still can't see why wouldn't you people do something like:
1st thread - Class Guides Poll: Select the best guide for Classes.
- Pool options: List of the 10 chosen entries -
- Pool Starting post: Links to each of the Class guides -
2nd thread - Level Guides Poll: Select the best guide for Level.
- Pool options: List of the 9 entries submitted -
- Pool Starting post: Links to each of the Level guides -
3rd thread - Zone Guide Poll: Select the best guide for Zone.
- Pool options: List of the 10 chosen entries -
- Pool Starting post: Links to each of the Zone guides -
Just make them all sticky, to keep links for everyone to see...
By the end of the week, just pick the top 3 for each poll... there you are, the best 9 guides...

Or am I missing some point?

Luxiel thank you for the idea, I hadn't realized it could be so simple. :) I checked the legal terms of the contest (stuff I cannot change) and there are no statements that would be contradicted if I make 3 poll threads instead of 9, so I will go ahead and make that change.
I will update the voting explanation on the contest page.
To anyone that's not following the discussion so far: the voting for this contest is being changed to be in 3 poll threads only, instead of 9 threads. The 3 threads will be 1 for each entry category, and will ask the voter to choose the best guide. By the end of the voting week, when the polls close, the winner of the poll will be the 1st place winner for that category. The two runner-ups in the poll will be 2nd and 3rd place winners accordingly.
Effectively: the voting method is not being changed in any way; only the display of the voting polls is being changed to make it less confusing.
Luxiel thank you for the idea, I hadn't realized it could be so simple.
Need a CM Assistant? :)
If you can pay a wage to remote international workers in Brazil I'm available. :D
Could relax a bit of all things on your shoulders...
The voting explanation on the contest page has been edited to reflect that there will be 3 voting threads instead of 9.
Also, because there were so many entries but only 10 of each category can be included in voting (if we do this contest again in the future we may expand that amount), I will post all of the eligible guides onto the forums after the contest is concluded. This is because they are likely all helpful guides and players shouldn't be deprived of them simply because of a contest. :) The winning guides, of course, will get the most spotlight and will be on the website page as well.
They seem to be expecting many new ppl soon and wanna give them something to read ;)
More than just that: Contests are part of a marketing strategy. When you make Sales, Cut Off, Contest etc. you are actively bringing the spotlight to yourself.
The contest was posted on the web-site. It might reach old players that have left and had knowledge for guides. New guides attract new people, because they have what to follow, making it easier to set goals.
It also keep players to the game who are feeling lost or stuck at something. This can also help players to get happy and excited with the game enough to make them invite other people to play.
This is how I see it. It's also an Event to distract players until another (perhaps x2 XP/Drops) Event, until we get GoD.
Also helps in Advertising GoD: The more people visit the website, the more they get to know about GoD and stuff... It's a try to make a chain reaction happen...
In theory, this has potential... Let's see when the guides are out...
We're also expecting a lot of new players after GD launches, so the guides of 1 to 85 will be helpful to them as well as to players working up to 85 right now. :)
I just have created a new SN three days ago. from lvl 1, I did newbie quest. I don't exactly know how much I played because I played it a little bit at time when I played it. Probably no more than an hour per day.
It's only been three days and it's already lvl 62 at 89%.
I'm sure I didn't play it more than 5 hours on this character.
Then again.. from lvl 52.. I power lvl'ed it.. so.. hmmmmm:rolleyes:
What I want to share from my experience is that the new quests in GOD are VERY rewarding (no more 'not enough adena to gear myself' at low level..) and lvls you very quickly. Very easy to transform your class 1 and 2. You probably don't even need that 3mil anymore for Giran quest. The quests are actually pretty fun too. Very newbie friendly.:D
FYI everyone, I discovered that it is not possible to edit a poll vote after making it, as I thought it was. :( I will change the contest page to omit that sentence. All that's changing is that players will need to be certain of their vote when they make it. I will make that clear in the voting threads.

This is why i cant see any sense to make guides, since they will be outdated / worthless if we compare em with the new Quests...
Also lets say if it takes 10h from 1-61.... pfff BB exploring the Areas... Simply a rush to get 85 asap missing what the idea of the game is... FUN
Get 2k new players and every server and the wish to be 85 wont be there since they can explore with others the game..

Who r we writing these guides for again? The 3 people that have joined L2 in the last year?
Chocolate cookies refills your vitality to full after using it. Works just like revita pop and it's tradable by Dimensional Merchant between characters on your account.
And I agree that contest with voting are not fair, they will be just like SnugglePuff says - friends, big clans will be voting on their ppl to get another new cool weapon for their clans =.= But... we will see...

This is why I think all of us who entered a guide should recieve a S grade weapon of our choosing for all of our hard work.....hint hint....
But the Cookies are good to.
SACE:
Will the Cookies work in GOD or do we need to eat em up now?
As far as I know, all revita items works in GD, but you can only use 5 per week per account...
~Lux
I guess all those old low level Alts I have Vita-Pops on I need to keep and not delete, since, if I am understanding it correctly vitality will be shared all the way across the account. I could use the pops on the alt and get the benifit on my main.

Yepp, that's correct...
Vit is shared per account basis, as well as the revita items limits per week...
Also don't forget that every week Vit is refilled automatically by the server, so don't spend an item on the day before that if you aren't going to use all your vit...
Only the weapons are tradable (they're no different than regular weapons). The cookies are sharable via Dimensional Merchant. The agathion and graduation cap are not tradable.
is the poll up yet? Cause I sure don't see it
The polls will go up today at 4pm PDT (in about 5 and a half hours).
What do chocolate chip cookies do?
I suspect this contest will turn into whoever can get their alliance to vote for them. I bet the best guide doesn't actually win.
The cookie question was already answered above.
Technically, yes, an author can tell their friends which entry is theirs and ask for them to vote for it. It is the voter's choice to vote for their friend or vote from their own opinion. The reason that the voters names are not shown is so that voters don't feel pressured by everyone seeing who they voted for.
This is why I think all of us who entered a guide should recieve a S grade weapon of our choosing for all of our hard work.....hint hint....
But the Cookies are good to.
SACE:
Will the Cookies work in GOD or do we need to eat em up now?
:) A weapon of choice is probably the awesomest contest prize we've given so far, so it is reserved for the winners.
I believe that all vitality items we currently have will still be there in GD.
What if someone puts the name of their character in the text of their guide? Everyone (okay, a lot of ppl probably) will know who wrote that particular guide - and, well, there you go.
BTW Sace - thanks so much for putting this event on. I think it will be a great resource, and a nice "twist" for Lineage II - those writing (and reading) the guides are looking at "lineage" for Lineage II. Pretty cool, when you think about it.
Would sure have been nice if there was something like this back when we started in C1, etc. (even recently). Better late than never, and certainly helpful for new/returning players and clans.

I've reviewed all of the entries that will be posted in the voting stage and have removed any personal information from them. (I also informed entrants in email than personal info will not be included in their entry during the voting period.) There are zero author, character, or clan names in them. :)

Thanks Sace. You are way ahead of me.
I'm thinking a lot of players are looking forward to this - a lot more than are currently on the boards (and much more than normally post - they mostly likely view the boards tho). I wouldn't be surprised if this little event brings more people to the LII forums [and hopefuly to the game].
I know I am very cynical about things with L2; more recently, the whole "FALL" release of G0D turning out to be nothing more that words and looking more and more likely to be more in time with Christmas. That being said, how does "GUIDE WRITING" in a 7 year old game attract new players to the boards and game? If I am missing something please enlighten me..
Scenario: Dude 1 says "Wow, new L2 guides are up...let's go buy L2" ?
Scenario 2: Dude 2 says "Oh , so that is how I get past level 40...jees I should have never left the game"?
I don't understand the logic of this whole exercise...we are attracting new players by this or helping current subs to level?
Ok, so I read all the guide in the "Best Zone Guide" poll, and I'm pretty happy to see all those guides, all players who wrote a guide should get something imo :P (Who is saying 2 cookies ? :D)
I myself wrote one guide in this category, Make some noise by leveling in the Monastery of Silence!
I really like two guides (beside mine) in this category. The one about Primeval Plains, and the one about Fields of Massacre.
1) The one about Primeval Plains explains with details the whole Primeval Island, so total newbie about this area could read it, and go with some good tips inside. But the "plus" is the Money aspect. Yup those guides are about leveling, and Lineage II is sometime either an XP Grind game, or an Adena Grind game, but trust me it's possible to do both in the Primeval Island. The numbers given are even rounded down, it's possible to do more than so many adenas, without a double XP event. Any nuker know Primeval is a great place, but you will understand why no you see some nukers, still 85 and 100% xping in the Nest :P
2) The guide about Fields of Massacre. The map, with the color areas is a must imo, and it could sum up the whole guide. And it's a good thing. If I plan to go to this area, instead of reading all those words I really like to take a look on the map, and go on the area I need to go. Furthermore, I could get more information about monsters if I need to.
(But vote for me ! :P)
For the negative part, there is one guide I don't like at all: the guide about SOA (Seed of Annihilation). It seems that the author never went to SoA himself and just read patchnotes and forum (all infos give are on the Lineage 2 site tho), or never went with an efficient party (by efficient party, I mean a party where you could enough to get more xp than others spots which are easier like Scorpions in DV/LoA/MoS). There is no word about Seed Farming (ok, it's not really about leveling but it's a great feature and one of the main aspect of this area). There is nothing about attributes, except a sentence saying you will kill slow if you have low attributes. Going with a "constant" party is needed yup, but it's the same for all area. And about fighters poling in SoA, I'm very very curious to see that, I will even put a shop to sell brez at SoA entrance imo.
My words would be to not go SoA if you are not 84 or 85 (damage penalty on mobs), and you will need all DD with a 300 weapon, and more than 320 earth resist on each char. You also need a good OL/Soulhound for Silence/Para/Sleep, and of course all party members need to be 3/5 or 5/5 epics. Did I say I could get normally nuked by mobs at 2k damage, with 280 earth resist and 3.5k mdef ? :D
I think this guide is dangerous, because it'll lead more people to SoA (which is a good thing), but unprepared people (which is a bad thing)
Your guide says to start hunting there at 80-81 in one paragraph yet in another says not to aimlessly hunt there until you get an 82 quest?
Should a noob go there at 80, 81 or wait until 82 to maximize return? I cannot tell from the guide. But then again is an 80, 81 or 82 toon a noob? God...
At 80/81 you could start Xp in MoS, and of course it'll be easier to xp when you are 81 than 80. But I knew some people who did great jobs here at 80, it just depends of people.
I would say to go at 80 if you have a Dark weapon, 81 if no, and just pick up the quests when you are 82. I'm only considering this case for a solo/small party btw, at the 1st floor. For 2nd floor, I would say it depends of the party, there is no requirement for supports as long as you are careful, but DD should be minimum 81 imo
A 80/81/82 player could still be a noob, or could not be. But I don't expect everyone being 82 to have full knowledge about all Xp places in L2. Personally I don't
"an Overlord and SE is not a good buffing combination for a melee group due to the lack of VR" (EXP in SOA guide)
huh? since you're using the 2nd class change name Overlord I assume you also by SE mean Shillien Elder? and VR is ofc Vampiric Rage?
What is the point of this contest when soon GoD comes out and all this guides will not apply anymore?
Probably so NC/GM's can improve whatever plans they have for G.O.D ? (I don't have high hopes for this update....so I'f I'm off on this reply..forgive me) :p
So this contest is based on how many friends you have with an account?
Or is it done fairly where NC Soft reads and picks the best Guide.
Popularity Contest?
or
Real Contest?
apart from the voting part, which u need for sure to have friends to help you , some guides are very well-written and useful to all , and especially new players, and that was the target of the contest.
Silent Valley, do not let the name fool you, this place is packed sometimes. Finding a spot could be difficult. The monsters right off the port are the ones you want to start killing: Chimera Piece and Soldiers of Ancient Time. Again, as your level gets higher you move further down the Valley, where you will find the monsters called: Shaman of Ancient Time, Warrior of Ancient Time, Non-Existent Man, and Giantâs Shadow. I say this to level eighty because the monsters still give good xp for your level. Well now that you are in S Grade, you might think that it is almost over, but you would be wrong, going to seventy six to eighty five is a road just about as long as the one I just put you through, but that is another guide. Enjoy and Have Fun!
I cant vote this as the best guide because of this part.
It was not specified that lvling in SV is for Melee toons. The guide should have lvling zones spelled out for all types of classes....Melee, Nuker, Archer, etc.
Really? People are voting for that Infiltrate the Dragon's Nest? There's no information in there that anyone who has ever gone to DV for 5 min doesn't know. Kariks need a tank... Gee, really? lol
Don't get too mad. It's obvious from the beginning that this is not a competition about who wrote the best guide but about who has the most accounts/friends/clan members

Na I'm not mad, I didn't submit a guide, so I don't have any personal interest in who wins. Just pointing out the absurdity of that being in 1st, but you're right about the popularity aspect.
The selection of the winners via a poll is of course open to "vote rigging", but basically this contest is a very good idea. Apart from the Catacombs, all the hunting grounds discussed will still be there in GoD.
The NCKorea Powerbook Wikipedia has a similar thing under the heading "My Own Knowhow" (ëë§ì ë ¸íì°). The difference is, in Korea the winning entries are in a second step edited by NCsoft personnel who change acronyms to full names (like for example "SE" to "Shillien Saint"), correct any errors and merge, where applicable, several good contributions about a given topic into one "official guide", adding the original texts via links so that the copyright is preserved. Here for example the Korean equivalent to the Dragon Nest guide: http://power.plaync.co.kr/lineage2/%EC%82%AC%EB%83%A5%ED%84%B0+%EA%B3%B5%EB%9E%B5%EB% B2%95+-+%EC%95%88%ED%83%80%EB%9D%BC%EC%8A%A4%EC%9D%98+%EB %8F%99%EA%B5%B4
And here the original contribution dealing with the nuker party section: http://power.plaync.co.kr/exe/ln2/doc.php?doc_no=42426&forum_no=9941&page=
If Sace herself should not be that familiar with some classes or hunting grounds, maybe she can get together with the people who have posted comments and edit the guides accordingly before publishing them officially? Like for example in [this guide (http://boards.lineage2.com/showpost.php?p=3085436&postcount=2)] it should be added that some monsters in the Silent Valley (Soldier Of Ancient Times, Shaman Of Ancient Times ...) cast a poison against which the Greater Antidote from the Grocery is no use any more; they should therefore be avoided by solo players without a healer in tow.
I do not claim to be all-knowing of every class, zone, and level range of Lineage II. That is why the players are the judges. In the cases of the Class and Zone categories, where we received more than 10 entries, the 10 that were included in the voting period were selected because they were very thorough: they touched on all of the points described for that category on the contest website page. Players will be the judges of guide accuracy.
I can understand how some players may see this as a popularity contest. But be it for a game contest or for voting in a presidential election, the voter's choice is up to them alone. Some people will vote for who they like, some will vote for what they think is right, etc...
To prevent abuse and manipulation of the votes, trial account votes are not included. Also, we've made a game login announcement asking players to vote on the best guides, so that we are spreading out the scope of the voter population beyond the smaller population of forum-regulars. These two points should help more votes come in from players who don't necessary know the entrants.
Remember, after the contest is over, all the eligible entries will be posted anonymously (unless requested otherwise by the entrant) on the forums, so that all the guides can be referred to moving forward.
About 2 more days left in the voting period. Good luck to the entrants! :)
Also, all of the guides that were eligible entries, including the winning guides, have been posted into stickied threads in the Player Guides (http://boards.lineage2.com/forumdisplay.php?f=171) section, so that everyone can partake of the knowledge share in this contest.
