GOD and Death Penalty

General Discussion Started Last reply 21 posts
Hi guys,

I've come back to L2 after a few years of inactivity. The reason I'm back is because this was the only game that gave me the excitement I was looking for in PVP. This is mainly because of the death penalties. So, can some one enlighten me on the new patch and how this is affected?

PK:
Clan Wars:
PVE:

Will the xp loss still exist upon death? I'm reading a lot of conflicting information on this.

Thanks again!
These 2 links have enough information about the Death Penalty System (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?p=3072875) and Clan Wars (http://boards.lineage2.com/showthread.php?p=3072893#post3072893).

Read them until the end, especially the red notes (mostly of what you asked about is on the red notes of these posts).

If you still have doubts, feel free to ask... :)

I don't think this really answers his question. The reason is that the notes say the Death Penalty System has been removed. Are they refering to the system where you get the death de-buff that you have to buy a scroll to remove? Usualy you have to read between the lines when NCSoft does an updated, because the meaning is not always clear.

I think the OP's question is, will you still loose XP when you die?

My first thought is that maybe that is what they were getting rid of, but knowing the past history of updates it probably just means you won't need to buy the scrolls any more.
Well that's unfortunate. So, I guess my quest continues. The sole reason I came back is being eliminated.
If that's the point then yes, they are getting rid of the debuff only. XP loss still occurs...

It's not a big deal anyway... It decreases every grade level you pass by and it is already easy to recover. In GD experience needed to level up will be way lower, making it even easier to get the lost XP back...

That would be great!

Well yea it is kind of a big deal, you loose less % at the higher levels but it still takes you the same amount of time to recover what you lost. It seems to me that it takes any where from 15 minutes to an hour depending on your vit level and bonus. That is why Blessed Rez's sell for so much.

Back in the early days it meant even more to go purple fight and die. It took hours to recover xp back then. It was crazy and it is the reason allot of people left the game.

A Lineage with no XP loss at death? Let the PVP begin....it wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Exp loss with clan luck etc is miniscule, mountain meet molehill.
And no, taking exp loss away would invalidate half the game (aka open pvp), they might as well turn it into a battle tourney kinda game

But, every other game on the market is like that. To me, this is what sets L2 apart from all the garbage releasing nowadays. Actions should have a consequence, or they are insignificant to begin with.

If it is miniscule, why have the penalty at all.

Other games I have played had penalties for death. Lineage in the early chronicles was excessive. It isn't as bad today by any means. Still I have leveled a bishop to use just for rez's and I use the Blessed Rez's because I find it a waste having to regain XP.

How about this, only a death penalty in PVP? Why should we be penalized because we have a disconnect problem, or for that matter we get in a party full of over zealous idiots.

It's miniscule if you man up and war. If you chicken out and avoid wars you pay a heavier price
Will the xp loss still exist upon death?
Yes. However, you will not be able to delevel anymore.
Yes. However, you will not be able to delevel anymore.

I missed that part in the notes. Do you have a source for this?

----> No Exp Loss? It is good this is cleared up. I was getting ready to sell my extra Blessed Rez Scrolls Cheap
there will still be xp loss, clan luck skill will be removed aka ppl will get full xp loss upon dead and if I understood destructor right it will be easier to pk actually but the consequences if you take it to far is alot harsher as you can even drop pvp'd/augmented gear..

on a side note lvl99 healers get 100% xp rez but those will be a lil rare at least at the beginning.

best thing to do is once PTS is around to go there and check it all out :)
i guess no1 know :)
all red marked words not include in west ncsoft update, check first post in that thread.
So the death penalty not removed :P

This is silly.

Why it matters is if you die LOTS.
Dying once is not worth worrying about. Dying 20 times sets you back.

Too many times I have seen people haggle over how to get a BRez when an EE or heretic is standing right there. Most of them lose more XP by not taking the EE res and continuing to XP than they do by taking the lesser EE res.

This is intentional. If you die once, its not a big deal. If you die a ton, you don't advance.

Honestly, people at war with anyone of any consequence spend more time bsoeing and gathering/buffing at clanhall than they do XPing. This is more costly than just dying and getting a res and continuing to XP. The loss is actually negligible... the opportunity cost is devastating in comparison.
Still there are brez right now on the market for only like 400k on Naia.
Some months back it was like 2-3kk. Also regaining the xp is lot easier now. I even accept SE rez or 0% rez on my 81 or my 83 char.
Xping comes fast and SP are never enough ;)
i guess no1 know :)

Red words were not included on the Korean PTS and only made in on the LIVE Korean GD.

West NC Soft will probably use the LIVE notes for it's PTS and LIVE NA/EU GD...

The death penalty debuff and the buying the scrolls to remove it was absolutely worthless, and one of the most frustrating things in the game for me. Not that I die a whole lot, but when you do die, you're already upset, and it was just salt on the wounds. I always viewed it as one of those things meant to cause a hassle for botters/exploiters, but it unfortunately affected legit players too.
Yes. However, you will not be able to delevel anymore.

I thought it was only:

"You cannot delvl from lvl 85".

Aka, if you have 10% into 85, you can still lose those 10%... If you are 86 you can still delvl to 85.
