I know of some others that cannot log into Chronos. They get extremly bad lag and disconnected frequently. I am experiencing same issue.
I checked my internet, did some speed tests. Not sure where Chronos is so I did a speed test to a server in San Antonio, Texas and another to Portland Oregon. No packet loss, latency issues, , no speed issues, getting 100% of my upload and download bandwidth. I am not having any internet issues whatsoever except connecting to Chronos. I can connect to Naia no problem and play.
I can't login too, i'm from Brazil and my NET is ok for other websites.
I can't go forward the server selection screen...so i cancel and try to login again and get the message: "That account is already logged in" or something like that...so i try again and get stuck in the server selection screen again xD
I was thinking here that i'm the only one with that issue, glad i'm not..rofl

I should also add that I am a server and network administrator responsible for servers much bigger and more important than Chronos. I can login now, but still real laggy.
Notice the lag is only when i am around alot of players. No its not video lag, its network lag. As soon as I ran back to aden square from aden castle i got big lag spikes.
Our network services team has confirmed that there are general lag issues across all NCsoft games. They've determined the source of the problem and they are already working on fixing it.

This must a first time that NC Soft actually admits a problem exists....
and you also did get how that meme relates to this post of yours

GRRRR angry peoples. I do see how it relates to it but the servers I look after are very important financially to many companies and to many (hundreds of thousands of) ordinary people. I said this to stress not getting the response, delete your cookies and your cache, run a dns flush, check your internet connection, run dxdiag and mail us the results, etc
I didn't say it to brag, its not a glamorous job, just wanted them to know that I am not some random gamer blaming stuff on NCSoft as I have done sufficient testing to verify the problem was not on my end or any problem related to my internet connection or its peering.
The past few hours there have been horrible lag spikes making it impossible to xp. Several groups I was in died due to the lag, Is NCSoft aware and/or working on a fix for this, ruining the event imo.
My Toi team had to quit due to the lag too. It seems that NA/SA is lagging but people in Europe aren't. Though my poll is only from the revolving people in my team.
I've been getting occasional lag spikes for a few days.
After the maintenance (during witch NCsoft took extra 2 hours to "fix their data center") it only became worse.
On Friday, latency issues have become quite annoying (slow response after almost every click; sometimes had to click twice to move; shots often going out of sync, etc).
At the same time, PingPlotter diagrams showed neither significant packet loss nor ping spikes on the main part of the route, so it looks like the problem on NCsoft's side (which they admitted) still exists.
Was getting slight lag on wednesday and thursday, but nothing too extreme. Today is a whole different story though. Lag spikes every 5-10 seconds. Ridiculous.
I've reported to network services that multiple players are seeing lag on Chronos, but we are not having any network issues on our end. If the problem was on our end, every single player that connects to Chronos would see the same issue. That is not the case. As multiple players are, in fact, seeing the issue, it is likely that there is a particular connection point somewhere in the USA that is causing this problem (since not everyone connects through that point, not everyone is seeing the problem). Unfortunately, we cannot know exactly where this point is so that we can contact them about their issues interfering with our customer experience. But we can if you help give us your info.
If you're experiencing lag on Chronos, please send a ticket (https://help.ncsoft.com/app/ask) to the tech support team and say where you are connecting from (city, state, country) and the name of your internet service provider. This will help us pinpoint where the problem lies.
Ok I updated my ticket with my location and a copy of a tracert report I did a few minutes ago, hope this helps or get resolved soon, I have clannies from all over the globe having problems connecting atm, would be horrible for this to continue through the 2x exp weekend.
Is it possible to restart the server? because chronos is lagging really badly everytime I step into GC, or Toi where most people would be leveling. The lag is just horrible. Fix the lag please, thank you.

Something similar had happened 3-4 years ago. Many players were screaming about lag issues and it turned out to be problem on a major Internet Provider (used by other ISP to connect to the internet).

I think AndreasK is closer to the truth.
Perhaps ppl can send a mail to their ISP's asking them if they notice anything wrong?
over the course of 7 years.... there have been several incidents involving switches and routers from various other ISPS, in Canada and mostly all of them in the united states.
Shaw Cable in western Canada had a case in which i tracked down and then finally was able to confirmation.
Managed to get a number as there was little work being done and it was a Friday night when things went haywire.
I posted the toll free number on the "other l2 forums" as well as here. Within about 15 minutes of doing so i received a call from the shaw headquarters informing me they had to send the poor guy home because there were literally hundreds of calls flooding in all asking for the same guy reguarding the same problem. This resulted in a repair crew emediately running out to the effected switch (they weren't going to do anything about it till after the weekend or much later potentially).
Surffice it to say, apparently the poor guy was a bit overwhelmed.. and many people playing L2 were saved from a totally unplayable long weekend. Additionally this fixed several other peoples problems connecting to the west coast or through the west coast servers for files/websites/gaming on all levels as it was a main backbone hub that was screwed/fried.
Throughout the years, One of the ISP responcible for the united states switch that had forever connected us, Dubbed Savis (i think that's right)..... refused to acknowledge a problem with their switches/hubs/routers. Discussions took place for nearly a month and still no resolve, even though mounting evidence kept suggesting savis as the culprit. While talking directly with our ISPs resulted in no change as they appear to be a Provider for OTHER ISPs and NOT for residential or corporate ISPs, they just didn't care, and getting our ISPs to talk to savis was a royal pain in the ***.. basically red tape and jurisdiction issues. Even NCSoft at the time, the community manager and i think HGMSpam discussed it briefly that they were having little luck trying to resolve the issue after a swatch of Network tests using ncsoft tool swamped ncsoft support with essentially the same thing.
Months later with random and unpredictable days...... all day long.. of rarely good gameplay, it just finally started working better.... either it failed completely resulting in it being replaced/repair.. or they did managed to repair it before it failed.. who knows.
All i know is that currently i'm connecting from Saskatchewan canada... my route takes a very sharp turn at Vancouver through to texas..... alternatively sometimes when i connect it goes through Chicago which.... produces the WORST lag results.. but still is quite good... usually a few reconnections/relogs will switch it back to Vancouver or to Chicago if internet weather is nastier on either end. Most people don't have this privilege ... unless they are willing to setup proxies and work out a way to still be secure/safe (people not sniffing the data flowing through the proxy being used)
And if someone has a good system in place, they can setup a multi proxy system completely avoid issue areas.
I've been thinking of providing a free proxy for someone to use to connect to l2... i just don't know how many clients i can support if i do though. Currently i should be able to handle approximately 20 clients at full tilt even during sieges..... More if i setup each of my internet connections to host the proxy.

Nice post - and when L2 lags chances are it is only 1% of the time NCs fault (perhaps less) and 99% chance that it is IPS fault.
on a possibly unrelated note i keep getting the gameguard thing come up when i first log in - last time that happened was back when playing more than one toon was causing chaos.
Perhaps ppl can send a mail to their ISP's asking them if they notice anything wrong?
Yes surely, when hundreds of people from different parts of the world complain about lag at the same time, there must certainly be something wrong with their ISP's, all at the same time! lol
Here's a hint: when the problem is at NCsoft's ISP (the one that's hosting the servers), technically, it's beyond NCsoft's competence. However, it's NCsoft's responsiblility to pick a proper ISP and demand quality service from them.
Whenever I tracerouted old Gustin/Phoenix I often detected major packet loss all over llnw.net. Not even once NC community manager admitted there was something wrong with that. Now the server (Chronos) is apparently hosted by a different ISP, guess what? The lag is back.
Of course, the problem might occur somewhere else. For example, if they are using a traffic shaper it may generate latency issues.
For example, sometimes I connect to http://boards.lineage2.com at 180 KB/s (as tested by SpeedTest) but in most cases my connection speed to this particular site is LIMITED to 12 KB/s only, and it looks like it's limited forcefully. (I connect to youtube and other sites at 340-350 KB/s at least.)
To me, it's getting worse by the day.
Yesterday it's been almost unplayable, now it's totally unplayable.
Let me make a guess it must have something to do with the increased server load.
Also I'd like to bet it will magically disappear after the end of the event.
Same as it happened during a few popular events in the past.
But of course, it's nothing but a coincidence... it's just lots of ISP's acting up all of a sudden. :o
So if ppl mail their ISP's you are saying those ISP's cant figure out where the error is and in turn contact that ISP and see what's up? "lol"
And just because hundreds of ppl are having trouble, doesnt mean its NC's fault, it could be just about anywhere, from your location to their location, there are many jumps along the way.
So did anyone at all mail their ISP? Or are ppl twiddling their thumbs hoping some higher power is gonna intervene?

Now, have you ever heard of such programs as PingPlotter (shows pings and packet loss at every hop of the route), VisualRoute (same as PingPlotter but also displays a map with all the locations and intermediary ISPs), and SpeedTest (shows at what speed you are currently connecting to a site of your choice; it helps identify if the site in question is having problems)?
So did anyone at all mail their ISP?
When I see the problem is close to my end, I call my ISP.
When I see it's somewhere half way to the server (e.g., at a faulty router in London), I won't complain at all, because I realize neither my ISP nor NCsoft are responsible for that, and they can't do a thing about it.
But when all the tests and diagrams are showing everything is relatively fine (not including the "obscure" part of the route, hidden behind the firewall on the other side), I can only guess it's "out there", i.e. somewhere at that end. A thing called "Occam's Razor" tells me so.
If you are having lagissues try and run pingplotter against Chronos and see where the hickup starts.
Most of the time it´s somewhere on the way where the hickup starts.

Yeah usually it's somewhere at alter.net. Oddly enough, I'm used to playing even when packet loss on some nodes over there is as high as 30-40% (it'd give only occasional lag spikes); yesterday though, average packet loss was under 10% yet it was laggy like hell, so I conclude there must have been something else.
My trace to Chronos ends on GigabitEthernet6-0-0.GW13.DFW9.ALTER.NET (IP: 152.63.102.213); I can't check what's behind that node.
Btw on Sunday bad lag started at 10AM GMT ended at 8PM GMT.
In fact, I gathered up some info with clannies and friends and got this:
The ones who play Linage 2 through a DSL connection got very lagged these last weeks...
However, the ones that I asked and said they were using Cable (myself included) or Fiber haven't had any lag at all...
MAYBE there lies the problem... My latency wasn't bigger than before when the complaints started...
I got DCd from GC but that is a bug in the game, almost everyone that SOE from there gets it.
Got one GameGuard error but it was a flaw in my poor system, which is finally being replaced today.
So, yes, it could be ISP or some problems in the server with the low frequency connections DSL provides.
BroTip: If possible, choose an ISP that uses at least Cable... DSL is outdated and far worse than any thing else. New standards being researched will always be easily overthroned by Fiber and new Cable / Radio technologies...
I am not experiencing this issue but I am aware of people who are. I am on a DSL connection in Canada. My friends that are experiencing the lag are on a Cable connection in Canada. I used to be on cable in the past and I know they follow a different route to NCSoft's servers. I would assume that since the problem affects people from all over it is probably some pipeline/peer/switch/router in the USA. I haven't done any testing on it since I do not have the problem. Also with the cable providers traffic shaping here in Canada I wonder if that could be the cause of the issue. The traffic shaping issue affected WoW users here and caused a big stink, but now they think other online latency sensitive games are affected as well, Lineage 2 included.
I remember NC had a network tool which tracked the route of connection and you could send support your results. Not sure if it is still in use. Has anyone used it recently?

That was long time ago, it was a DOS-based tool I think.
Then I sent them pingplotter diagrams asking to examine them.
Some time later (coincidentally of course), the support began to suggest players to use PingPlotter :)
I am not sure on the IP of Chronos but, just put in Chronos IP there and hit enter, it will trace it and paste your results in here :D It will become apparent where the hold up is if you know what you are looking at.
Anyone know Chronos IP address? I am at work and don't have it.
Have been experiencing severe lag this afternoon on Chronos, started a little more than an hour ago. The problem seems to be the ae-3-80.edge2.Dallas1.Level3.net router not forwarding correctly.
Yep, the lag monster was back in full force last night for me. It had gone away for a week or so, but last night pvp looked like a slideshow for me lol.
Well after a 4-5 year leave of absence I come back to a game that lagging really bad compared to before. I was thinking how could this be, the machine I'm running now is about 16x faster (if not more) than the one I was using when I left. My second thought was they must have added a lot of new content cense my absence. I'm glad to see it's not just me having lag issues.
People already mentioned that PTS periods coincide with huge lags on (formerly) Bartz, which people think that is now Chronos (the same hardware, I mean).
However, I played this weekend and yesterday (4 hours in the evening) and it was smooth as always.
I only had lag that one Saturday the day I started this thread. My friends who had lag as well later on no longer experiences the lag.
NO lag at all until last night, I had major lag. My motherboard decided to go and my onboard network or USB is not working anymore. Time to RMA it, just over 1 year old hardware, luckily it came with 3 year warranty. So to make me feel better I went out and bought a new computer :D I actually had just bought some components the day before to start my new build for my new PC. It is almost fully built and ready to go now.

sorry, that was a specific response to Xorx, maybe i should have put a quote in there.
as for lag i haven't really had any huge problems recently, so maybe they're doing less work in anticipation of the actual PTS release?
Not that it matters, I'm the IT manager where I work so I do have half a clue. The connection we have a dual T1 connection at work, the connection I have at home is supposedly faster; testing thus far backs that up. The latency on both connections are about the same 20-35ms.
IMO the FPS issue relates to the displayed text above the toons. Even before my break back during C5, any time there were a lot people about things got very slow.
So my point on my previous post was, compared to last weekend there was a speed improvement, with the obvious exceptions in towns. For me last weekend was slow everywhere I went, if I could move at all. But that may have been to do to some internal hardware requiring a cool boot from a power failure.
Anyhow, it does feel good to be back... At least until someone shoots me in the back again. Hey I remember you...WACK!!
