I find it funny how MANY of the defenders of multiboxing are now absent. "Use and Abuse" seems to be the mantra.
"Got what I got, done with what's left, CYA! The remains I leave to you!" And now the possibility of FTP. I'm sure that soon, by simply being recalled, that many of what's left of those that box, they will glorify how their boxes helped to create groups and kept the game going. They NEVER kept they game going, they only kept themselves and their own kind going at the expense of others. Even so, they will expunge upon us how if it weren't for their mere existence and practices, the game would not be standing and online...

2 years and 8 months. And you had to go dig it up again?
I still 6 box and will defend that playstyle, if its any help. I think I saw you looking for the defenders of dualboxing in your post, but I also didnt really read all of it, had my BS-filter on.
I love the way my boxed SE jiggles when she buffs me and other party members. I know leveling her side by side with my Screamer was the best thing I could have done. I would do it all again, to be honest I would add a BD to the mix.
Dual boxing is not a crime, dredging up a post from 2009 should be.

The fact that some multybox does not mean that they dont play with others and many will play their support just to get in a group and play. If you think about it again you will see that the multyboxers actualy help. Yes some wont play other than their main when they join a group yet many will, but even these that wont play anything but their main and will only do something as long as it help their char help the game evolve as much as any other. Since the game gives you the option why should he be less counted or more on the games existence and practises.
Many box just for the fun, others cause it is convinient, others cause they dont want to party unknown ppl and many more reasons yet all are equal to the game. Their choices gave them some advantages and disadvantages through the years.
and the point to move this into new thread is .... ?
To bore players even more.. when Naia becomes a dead servers(soon).. and people can't box a buffer.. the remaining 500 players.. will quit... because they don't have enough enchanters to party with.
I love the way my boxed SE jiggles when she buffs me and other party members.
Repped. The future of dual boxing is in question though, at least for me. If we get those rentable buff pets (or w/e they are) like they have on Innova servers (I think?), and the buffs they offer are comparable to what I would get from a Warcryer, and they're not insanely expensive, I don't see any reason I'd box a Warcryer anymore. That said, I join parties 90% of the time, so I don't get much use out of him anyways.
I do get disappointed that I can never find a party for my WC when I solo with him though, since everyone boxes one.
When I read the GD patch notes, my Necro went from +SE+WC to +Kook+WC. And my wallet went to +$15.
when that post was made, the thread was several pages long.
i made a reply to someone on the first page :)
then i noticed the dates, so i changed my post to reflect the fact that i didn't have time to read everything.
the thread is not as long now, so i might post something more constructive later.
More on-topic, 2 or 3 boxing is okay IMO. Some players (like me) have too much time at hand due to personal situations and play at times that little to no parties are available. At these times I called out my DC and 2-boxed.
Also called out the DC if there was none available in party/clan to join...
But 6-boxing to powerlevel? Okay, I get the drift why ppl do that, but what's the fun of that? I'd rather party with others than have 6 chars online to PL myself...
Many people had responded to the post that resurrected the thread, if discussion wants to continue, it may.
I never witnessed these posts, and it seems no one other than those that made them will ever know of them. Yet "Many people had responded to the post that resurrected the thread". You have basically "sanitized" the site. Good Job Sace...

Well, I'm still here. And why wouldn't I? Using my second account to buff clannies or log in one of the lower-level alts there for specific raids or to help powerlevel them in B/A-grade while at the same time keeping my main character logged in to deal with the usual drama, politics and money making is too useful to miss it.
when most others cant learn how to play the game after 7 years.... it pretty simple, box or have nubs waste your time dying.
sadly, this is a double edged sword.
if you box, you won't party the newbies and fail players.
if you don't party them, you don't get a chance to teach them.
if you don't teach them, they never learn.
if they never learn, they will always be newbies and fail players.
if you box, you won't party the newbies and fail players.
if you don't party them, you don't get a chance to teach them.
if you don't teach them, they never learn.
if they never learn, they will always be newbies and fail players.
boxing causes the player base to be fail players.
not really... you invite ppl and if they are consistently bad and unable to follow directions to keep people alive then you quit inviting them. eventually you end up w/ a very small list of people that youre actually willing to play w/, so you box.
prime example - i like to kill raids, many of them i can kill w/ myself, bd,buffer (bd and buffer i can box both) sometimes i add a friend or 2, so we raid w/ 3-5 ppl max. nobody dies, raid goes down smooth, and you can be at a raid and have it killed and on to the next in a few minutes.
now take that same raid and make it 15 ppl. takes forever for ppl to get thier stuff togather and get there w/ buffs etc rdy. nobody follow directions and 1/2 the group get wiped while taking 3x as long to kill and move to next boss.
this happens consistently, so what reward do i get for inviting ppl who cant figure it out?
im married w/ house, yard, dog, child to take care of and dont have time to play much.
after a long day at work, once i put the baby to bed why would i want to log in and babysit grown ppl who cant grasp game mechanics.
im not saying im the best lineage player or anything, far from it, but when you have little time you dont wanna waste it standing around or dying.
yeah, i can understand that situation.
it doesn't really hurt my argument at all.
it still perpetuates the cycle.
maybe try to do one person at a time?
if they each learn individually, it's the first step.
and maybe through that, they can teach others.
soon, some day maybe years away...
there will be a statue for you as the creator of the new world of learned players in lineage 2.
not worth my time tbh
all the info is there for people...
if you can see what works and can test what doesnt you should be able to learn.
if i show you what works and tell you what doesnt you should be able to learn.
if you ignore what works and do what doesnt you should hang up your spurs.
i group ppl i see potential in, but they have to get to a certain point by themselves.
its perfectly reasonable to expect ppl to learn the game in lvls 1-80, after that if your still horrible dont talk to me.
Dual-boxing is always bad for any mmorpg.
Because it helps to kill the main caracteristic of this kind of games: playing with others players.
At the same time dual-boxing is - simply - stupid, because kills or make almost non-existant in the game (at medium or long term) some classes, and that would make the game more and more uninteresting to new players, because - guess what - much player love to play suport classes.
Classes that in a game that sees dual-boxing has "natural" and a "smart way to play" are simply a victim of the shortsighted plans of the company and of the players itself.
So: boxing is the bane of any healthy mmorpg, despite how much boxing defenders can say, and while "helps" the individual, damages - enormously - the playability and reputation of the game (who would like to play i na game were groups are dificult to form because a huge amount of players are playing alone with their boxes?).

Quoting you, but quoting any of your post, it's more about your global way of thinking
Don't you think that, if people use Boxes, it's because they play their boxes better than you play SE?
Don't you think that, if people use Boxes, it's because they play their boxes better than you play SE?
Boxes don't kill a game; they keep people playing their mains month to month instead of quitting altogether due to a lack of competent players.
People that play support mains like they are boxes hurt the game.
And why do they talk like they can't find a party? Stop being a party crier, and actually make a party. Or will you complain that there is a lack of Damage dealers to invite cause they are boxed too???

the complaint will end up being...
all these other solo players are failing to be good at their classes...
and our party keeps dieing.
can one of you box players drop a box or two, and come help us xp better.
I made my prophet box the first day I saw a prophet shout "WTS prophet buffs". That one is almost 84 now...
I started boxing my SE when the only other SE in clan did nothing but Greater Group heal, as soon as anyone was taking even a little dmg.
I started boxing a bishop with a warcryer just to see if it was possible to skip SE as a healer box, that bishop is 84 also now. And I'm pretty much the only one that plays bishop in clan, so good thing I made one huh?
I still enjoy going into random parties once a month, just to see how bad most ppl are, but doing it on a day to day basis, with only one account and actually being forced to rely on these ppl for my exp? No. It's not THAT fun...

Lame excuses.
I found, over the last years of playing L2, some noob players but, guess what? I teach them how to play and gave advice about the gameplay, and most of them learned; only a few were incapable of learn (very few indeed).
Justifiying boxing with "i find bad players, ergo i go boxing" is, at the least dishonest and stupid: people box because they like (whatever the reasons), despite the damage that is done to the game.
Sorry, but some are just tired of teaching each time again and again and again.....
If i play like 1-3h per day i have no mood to look long for ppl to start xping nor have i the mood to take deaths cos they are afk, telling them to re-cov, to dance/sing, co-ordinate d/s, telling which buffs/d/s they should do.
Could go on endless.
(Also a 80+ SD asked me what is Dance of Auqa Guard after i said do this to incr. the water def of some ppl with low water resist)
This is the result of all the 2x xp with ppl having no clue at all.
Hell, i even saw a 8 ppl party with SD+SWM+Tank+DC being at GC near mobs not attacking and doing shouts for like 1 1/2 buff rounds "lf stigma"
I am sick of all the EEs who start spamming Greater Battle Heal, Major Heal, Greater Heal, Group heal, all at once, and kill their MP on a single person who was half HP.
I can understand the frustration felt by those who play support classes, but to blame it on players who box is just stupid.
Boxing is very rewarding in L2 by design. If you don't like it and want to vent your frustration, blame the developers.
I don't enjoy paying an extra $15/mo for my second account, but let's see:
1. Buffs are compulsory in L2.
2. I often play <10 hours/week and can't afford not to skip the LFP waiting line.
3. Yes, most pick-up groups are terrible. I have given up tolerating those who make no effort to learn their class, or who play for five minutes and then AFK until I /leave.
Also, for those who play support classes and complain about boxing:
Box a DD!
There's no need for that. Support classes - in particular prophets, warcryers and overlords - are the ones who are supposed to lead their parties. DDs are a dime a dozen, and if one of them is bad and you have no further obligations to him, just kick him from the party; there will be a couple more waiting for their chance to replace him.

I'm just telling you why I made my boxes.
I have no intention of ever paying for buffs from someone, and thats what they tried back then, to "sell" prophet buffs, coz the class was rare.
I made my SE coz clan needed a good healer, and not the idiot that was playing one in ally at the time. And yes, I was able to outbox him oop with him playing his SE only. Meanwhile im dd'ing on a spellhowler and still have time to heal ppl that were near death in party, never running out of mp. I will gladly tell you his name in a pm if you want it.
As for the bishop, I think its a nice class, and I ended up playing it live for most clan activities. Should I not box one during everyday exp so my clan can have a high lvl healer played live when we need it?
I dont play DD's coz I think its fun, I play them to lvl my support classes, which is what I play during clan activities. So no, you are not missing a party because you are a bad player, you are missing it coz you are not in my clan and also because you are not my support that I play.
Now go make parties and stop complaining about not getting invited to other ppls parties.
First buffer I ever made was because C1 prophets preferred to either 1) sit in DVC entrance and sell buffs or b) if they decided to exp did a buff cycle then went AFK for half an hour.
And amazingly, 7 years later, casual player still are clueless about playing supports

I disagree. I started playing as a BD, and changed to prophet wayyyy back in chronicle... 4? or 5. Mostly I just played with my family and RL friends, but if they weren't on I generally found I couldnt pve, because everyone already had a box and it was higher level than me. Everyone still has a box, and they are all still higher than me!
In my view dual boxing and dual pc'ing mean two different things.
Back in the day (C5/C6'ish) I would dual pc, because I was only going to be on for a couple of hours and I didn't think it would be fair to those long term grind groups for me to join only to leave a short time later, leaving the group trying to find a replacement for the party bonus. So I feel that dual boxing is fine, but hey that's me.
I play around 30-40 hour a week
They play around 10-15 hour a week...
If i don't box them i end up bieng lvl 85 and them bieng lvl.... 60 maybe....
So one year in the past i started to box them now i'm lvl 85 and they are all between 80-84 so i can still play with them and i helped them to know how to play there class because i actually play those toon more then them...
So if i look at that boxing is good for us...
Have fun trying to QQ about boxing because it'S what keep game alive ATM...
What you are describing here is not boxing a buffer⦠you are actually account sharing, which is another topic all together.
true, and account sharing could get you in trouble.
i mentioned it before, account boxing often leads to account sharing, or vise versa.
i guess i have been offered many accounts in the past, but due to my thick headed view that NC soft monitors account sharing activities, and could ban at any time... i always refuse.
i have never boxed another account that was not my own, and i never will.
and in turn, i have never given my info to anyone, and never will.
that second part is only a half truth, if ncsoft wants the account info for purposes of reactivating the account, that is acceptable.

you can get your account back for botting so itd be a hell of a thing if they ban for account sharing lol

They don't specifically ban for account sharing, but if your account get stripped, your subs deleted or whatever, NCsoft West will jump on the opportunity to do nothing about it.

IMO they shouldnt do anything when that happens, if it seems that the account has been logged on from that location prior to it happening.
There are rules, we click accept to them every day..

LOL! Ok, that's nub.
Also, for those who play support classes and complain about boxing:
Box a DD!
...funding armor/weap/jewels/OE's on 2 boxes instead of one is way more expensive. With boxing a support is you really only need decent gear on your DD. The problem with boxing a DD is you need decent gear on both classes.
Boxing is really only good in pve and pve is more fun with real people instead of grinding alone, so unsure why you'd even want to pve with a box? It seems super boring to Ace. As a support, Ace finds half of a supports job is to keep the conversation fun in the party while looking for replacement members when necessary.
Lastly, boxing doesn't seem to work out so well in pvp. Sometimes it's necessary, but much more prone to problems.
And I'm pretty much the only one that plays bishop in clan, so good thing I made one huh?
We had bishops in clan, even I got one. But all the bishops quit/ rerolled because they are not needed in our exp parties; even we need it, its only role is being a pick up bitxh.
What's the point of playing a support class that is not needed (to support) by others most of the time? Unless they are really passionate about that class. Multi-boxing has frustrated a lot players that wants to play a support class over the years. I have seen plenty of people I know stopped playing a support class because of that.
If the support players were available, I wouldnt have to box.
I boxed a prophet today for 6 hours mcBuff, my PP is 5.5% away from 85 now, coz there was no CC Hierophant on, that could stay on for 6 hours.
At the moment we have 2 bishops being lvled by ppl in clan, once they get in range of any of my chars I can try to make parties where they actually have to heal a bit too, so they get some experience healing too, not just nuking.
You know you are in a clan with many multiboxers mcBuff, and even you multibox your own party. While multiboxing I dont really go to places that require me to heal as much as would warrant a bishop, but I still boxed one back in the day to make sure I had one if clan needed it. Turns out clan needed it and now its 84. If you played in the same timezone as most other ppl in clan, we could help you lvling yours as well.
I played my Cardi in a clan function less than half an hour ago. I'm sorry, but I cant recall when you played your Cardi last, but who knows, you might get the chance in a few hours if you are on.

Goodnight :D
You actually proved my point. I wouldn't have to multibox if someone (even random groups) were willing to level a prophet before they got CC. I was persistent and I like my class, if not I would already rerolled to a DD class or just quit the game for its lack of socialising between players. The more people boxes -> the less active support player, the less active support player -> the more people boxes. It's a vicious cycle. Smittie, I remember you mentioned multiple times in the forum that you only party with clan members, and there's only me and another Heirophant main with CC in clan. Perhaps that's why you can't find any CC Heirophant on.
I made my bishop a few years ago to exp in the rift (when it was good for making money); then I was just sick of only being able to play a bishop for the clan siege/raids when what I really want to play is my prophet. You were also the one bullied me in vent/clan chat about why am I leveling the prophet, and I should just reroll as a doomcryer; so I guess in the end you still had to level a prophet heh.
You said you really wanted to play prophet, I asked why, since its the most boring class in the game right now. If you think you having to explain to me why you like the class so much is bullying, I guess you really do see me as the devil.
And I could also tell you I boxed a prophet to not have to "pay for prophet buffs" back in the day. It's a vicious cycle allright, and it started with greedy prophets.
As for me only partying with clan members, why should I waste my time partying with randoms? I have no idea what gear they have, how skilled they are at their class etc.
Hell, i even saw a 8 ppl party with SD+SWM+Tank+DC being at GC near mobs not attacking and doing shouts for like 1 1/2 buff rounds "lf stigma"
Seriously, a strong DD only needs basic buffs, a prophecy, and a bd, and they can kill gc mobs by themselves just fine, and do not need heals. I often do random gc party but other night I had to tell the people who were already at the port spot 5-10 times to just buff and go already because I could kill the stuff with just those things, and no need to wait for people who got in party but are screwing around in town for another 20 minutes (including party leader). So yea once I get a prophecy and dances on I just go start killing stuff and the people who are there already will follow suit instead of standing there doing nothing. To efficiently kill mobs at a faster rate yea you need stigma but a full or nearly full party for example can also get by just fine with sws and no bd. Heck I can solo the mobs with cov only it's just a bit slow and not shot-efficient.
The other thing that drives me nuts is people think they have to fill the party up to 9 with a bunch of random useless dd or ppls' boxes, when the best xp is already with only 7 ppl and a decent party only needs 5 to do just fine.
