So hey everyone i'm coming back to lineage 2 after being gone for 6 years.
Back when I played I was a Eleven Wizard (yeah I didn't get that high lol)
I've seen a lot of things that changed and a lot of the new content and with the new release of the upcoming GoD update I felt I should give this game another whirl because at that time back then it was my favorite mmorpg.
Okay to the point I would like some input on a class that would be right for me. I'll give a little bit of info about the classes I play in present mmorpgs and what my likes are in a class.
I really love to play classes that are warrior types and go for dps. I hate tanking and I try to stray far away from it.
I also like archers but i've read that they are a pain to solo with nowadays.
I will indeed play a healer/buff class if it's for raids, but i lean more towards heals rather than buffs. I like to feel useful in a raid and not just stand there buffing every so often.
I know this game is pvp based so I'd like to be something useful for that as well as i'm not that great on pvp on my own lol.
Also when it comes to races then I am going to avoid Orc, Dwarf, and Dark Elf like a plague lol. Just not my thing.
Now my major concern is being able to get into raids and parties down the road. I know f2p will allow a bunch more players to the game so that will open up to door to partying up but I love raiding in a mmorpg more than anything and there's a bunch of people who just aren't into all that.
I know this is a lot to read and I thank you to reading and I apologize if I didn't give you enough information. Just ask away and i'll be sure to reply.
P.S I will be trying out a trial account to get a feel of the new classes and find something that's right for me but I would also like some input from the community.
allow me to lend a machete to your intellectual thicket.
if you want to raid, you'll first (more important than a class) need to make the circle of friends who can teach you about raiding in Lineage2; so first off you need to join a clan. make your character as a temporary one; then when you have all the information from the clan you need (for example: the clan lacks function X found on class Y ) you will properly be able to find your role.
the trouble is, you have racially eliminated some VERY important races for raids. Orcs tend to make superior DD. bar none, any melee raid force would be lost without the Dark Elf Healer type (shilen Elder). do not discount the abilities Dwarfs have for buffs; they may be small boosts but they can rightly pack a whallop when stacked with the right other boosts - insomuch that a raid force can narrow from being 9 strong, to 7 strong. it accordingly means the raid may take a few minutes more to do, but will still be easily done.
i will try to answer your question directly, though.
as i see it you are left with but one alternative - any class in the Kamael race tree. Doombringers once held a very prominent spot in raids, as the use of Disarm also works quite effectively against bosses who use weapons (some use magic, some use fists, so its a fine point, and a fair few number of bosses). Soulbreakers posess an assortment of skills capable of assisting raids in several unique ways. Arbalesters (when they control their damage output) can enchant certain skills of their own, and present a couple of options even to mage parties, that will help control the bosses and even sometimes act as a tank.
Judicator (the 3rd subclass - not available from the start of the game) is the ever coveted Ultra raid party buffer. their buffs have minimal duration but scream Uber Power. a DD under the power of these buffs gains IMMENSE power, so use the buff smartly, and your raid force can take down traditional bosses in mere seconds.
I thank you for your very informative and valuable input Spudnik, reading what you wrote I will be sure to first find a clan so I can learn the basics of raiding in this game and give me a general idea of what is needed.
I have read more into the Kameal Race after reading what you wrote and I have found the very appealing. I also have changed my mind about not playing a Dark Elf as i've looked into the skill tree and saw how nice Shilen Elder were and I read about and saw that they are valuable. So i will have that as one of my main class to pursue when and if I'm able to gather enough information about raiding.
I will be sure to roll a Kameal and get a feel of the character.
Kamael is awesome, and SE is very good. I have both at 85.
With Final Form I can solo tank/dd any regular raid boss (with full support). Disarm can still be useful for raids; I tanked and was main dd to kill Marpanak, who has a ton of hp, hits hard, and goes after everyone in the party; keeping him disarmed cuts down his damage output a lot. Otherwise Kamael is only substandard DD for raids; but likely SE will be more wanted at raids. However the only class used for real healing is Cardinal, ee and se are backup as mp recharge only for cardinal, they almost never heal anyone themselves, at least in full proper parties.
I agree that finding a good clan is key, or at least a clan that can help you learn what you need to know as you go. But imo don't be afraid to hop around in clans if they don't help you or they don't accomplish enough in general.
