Will the new expansion be listed under 'f2p' in steam? Steam is the best way for me to download the client, since the bulk downloads (fileplanet etc) cannot be resumed.
I think it would be a huge boost to the game if it's combined with the steam community as well.
I'd like to see all the digital distributors sell/offer NCSoft games plus the ability to buy store items (points/coins, pets, other stuff). Timecards are sold retail, and hopefully point cards will be too, so there's that in place... Sell via DD and they get a cut like a retailer.
The only question is how will that affect fraud issues. SOE noted the penalties charged by credit card companies are very stiff, over $1 million, and that's not including the chargebacks. Whatever option comes up needs to protect the company and players.
Hmm... i didn't think steam charged anything for even the marginal use of their bandwidth... specially at the significantly low cost of bandwidth now... most of the cost is in speed...
Steam has a free 2 play section now where you can download games for free without any charge for bandwidth (as far as I know). Already a few mmo's are using steam to connect to a large user base.
lets assume a marginal amount of players download from steam - 2000.
at 15gb to download the full game thats 30 TB of data. thats not bloody cheap.
steam will be pigs about it, they'll let you download the same "client downloader" as available from this very site, a whopping what, 5Mb of data?
Actually, 30TB of internet traffic IS bloody cheap... In storage, it might not be THAT Cheap (still it is kinda cheap), but in traffic, that's nothing.
You see, you don't pay the games in steam for the bandwidth you use to download them. Rest assured Steam has enough bandwidth to provide anything without the need to charge anyone one that (as no one does now, except ISPs, but that is because that's their business).
You pay for the right to own a copy of the game, like when you pay for a DVD or a PS3/XBOX360 Game. You pay for the License to Use.
Also, Lineage 2 Website has about 10 links and, in the gamershell's one, there's a link for a well-seeded Torrent, that always capped my download speed when getting Lineage 2 HighFive Client. I bet GoD will have that too (although updating the client would be faster since 5GB update < 15GB full client).

+1 on this. I saw Lineage 2 for sale on Steam.
Steam has been steadily adding more F2P games, and adding L2 would be a huge boost for our playerbase.
Then why would they let you download lineage 2 after paying for it on steam?
The point being that you can use a steam wallet to buy cash-shop items, just like all the other F2P on steam games.
Just to add to this - the more Steam (or any service) does for you, the more you use it, and the more likely you'll be to spend money with them. In the general scheme of things, its keeping the customer happy and their wallets open. Be it a full priced game or something on one of their absurdly priced sales, they make more money when you're happy than when you're not! :p
actually i personally was really a hater of steam... when it first came out... unstable, crashed a lot and well.... downloading sucked..
but a few years later and it's probably the best service on the planet atm.
i know i'm very happy with it.
I just hate buying DLCs from any other place but steam.... and usually steam provides a ultimate DLC game package to purchase.
That all and the seamless integration with the Multiplayer and Co-op games (like Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead) and also the great achievement system makes it worth.
It beats Battlefield 3 software, Origin, by a very fair amount...
I like Steam, but I think the NCsoft manager is really cool. I can update my Guildwars from there too. I downloaded L2 one day before GoD release, so it was full speed download. The next day I think the update was about 2GB and it went full speed too.

It does work well, but if you have 30+ games one account and just L2 under another system, wouldn't it be nice to just group them all together?
